Storming into 2022 with the same passion and fire of 2021 and beyond, delivering all that's happening in the world of sports as Episode #231 is ready to set your earbuds or speakers ablaze. On deck: (3:50) The NFL season is just a week away from concluding, (Thank goodness! Don't worry, I'll explain) this 'biggest year ever' hasn't lived up to the billing as I'll get into my winners (Arizona & Las Vegas) and losers (Miami & Antonio Brown. A lot to unpack here, but I'm taking a different stance than the usual talking heads) of Week 17. I'll also discuss a bit of the following: the development of Jaguars QB, Trevor Lawrence. The Rams getting out of Baltimore with a huge win to move up in the NFC. The Chiefs fall to the surging Bengals. I'll get into a not so exciting Week 18 schedule and all of the up to the minute playoff possibilities in both conferences. I'll also spend a moment on the recent passings of legendary coach/broadcaster, John Madden (Plus, an interesting encounter that I had with him several years ago.) And former Broncos, Giants and Falcons coach, Dan Reeves. (48:05) The College Football Playoff did not live up to expectations as both games were duds. Cincinnati didn't embarrass themselves but were no match for Alabama, while Georgia steamrolled over Michigan to set up another rematch between the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs. I'll have a thought or two on the storylines of the National Championship Game. Will Georgia exorcise the Alabama demons and defeats of the past. (55:23) The Association is acting like a slow cook crock pot, while the Bulls have heated up with a seven game winning streak to the top spot of the Eastern Conference. The Nets have stubbed their toe recently due to some poor performances to where they need an 'attitude adjustment'. Is there truth to that? The Cavaliers lose point guard, Ricky Rubio to an ACL injury. They bring in former Laker, Rajon Rondo to fill his role. Is this a blessing? Or a curse for a young Cavs team? Also, the NBA suffers another loss with one of their great players as Sam Jones passed away over the weekend as we reflect on his life and career. (1:04:04) All is quiet on the college basketball front as Baylor still resides at the top of the rankings for a fourth straight week. (1:04:37) The Winter Classic was in full effect Saturday night in Minneapolis as the temperature was six below zero from the start as the Blues beat the Wild for their league's annual event to kick off the year. Other than that, teams are still trying to recover from a week off due to COVID interfering with the schedule. For the most part, things are in catch up mode as they look forward to making up these games over the 'Olympic break'. As Santa is back at the North Pole, all of the gifts are unwrapped, Christmas dinner and leftovers have been consumed, so now it's time to get into who's been naughty and nice in the sports world as the final podcast of the year ensues as Episode #230 is primed to be an entertaining one. On deck: (5:27) The NFL season is coming down to the homestretch as this extended season is still three weeks away from the playoffs. For now, I'll go through my winners (Buffalo & Cincinnati) and losers (LA Chargers & Seattle) of Week 16. Two teams that I did not buy into the hype (i.e. San Francisco & New England) that many people have jumped on their bandwagon, suffered big losses on Sunday. Is Baker Mayfield worth franchise QB money in Cleveland? Are the Browns still in contention to win the AFC North? NOTE: Baltimore does need to lose one of their last two, on top of Cincinnati losing to KC on Sunday, in order for the Browns to win the division. Can the Cardinals gain any momentum as they're reeling in the NFC? I'll also touch on the resurging Raiders, Joe Judge and the dreadful Giants, dissect a log jam of an AFC playoff race and an NFC that's taking shape, but with lots to still be determined as I look ahead to the Week 17 schedule. (41:38) I'll set my sights on the College Football Playoff semifinals come Friday. I'll preview both Cincinnati vs. Alabama and Georgia vs. Michigan. Can the Bearcats stack up against the almighty Crimson Tide? What about Georgia having to overcome the sting of an SEC Championship loss to play against the magic carpet ride and pixie dust of the Wolverines? I'll get into how both games may play out as they'll set the stage for the National Title Game on January 10th. (50:19) The big story in the Association is the floundering of the Los Angeles Lakers as they're in the midst of a five game losing streak, with a record of 16-18, will they ever get their season back on track? The Clippers will lose Paul George, again, for an extended period of time due to a UCL strain. And an in-season tournament that could be implemented next year? Is this a gimmick? Is it legit? (59:19) The NHL had to pause their season this past week due to players and teams in the COVID protocol, but with the Winter Classic on Saturday set to be played in Minneapolis, is it still a go? Also, the players will forgo the upcoming Olympics to make up games that were lost due to the pandemic. In a similar move to what the NBA did last week, they've increased the rosters to replenish rosters to protect themselves of potentially cancelling more games down the road. (1:02:34) Baylor is still your #1 team in the country in college basketball for the third week straight as they've shown no hangover from winning the National Championship this past April. (1:04:15) All is quiet on the MLB players and owners front as talks of a collective bargaining agreement have stalled. When will we see both parties reconnect? (1:04:51) Of course, I'll have my Hero & Zero of the Week. (1:07:17) I'll wrap up the final episode of the year with a tremendous THANK YOU to all of the listeners and followers who support the podcast. I plan to take this endeavor to greater heights in 2022. The holiday season is upon us! As we gear up for another Christmas, you know I plan to share who's been naughty and nice in the sports world as Episode #229 packs plenty of spirit, cheers and jeers. On deck: (5:43) In the midst of COVID craziness that's sweeping the nation once again, the NFL continues to plug along as they set their sights on finishing the 2021 season. I list my winners (Colts, Dolphins) and losers (Cardinals, Buccaneers) of Week 15, as well as, the Titans early Christmas gift to the Steelers (and their playoff hopes still have a pulse) a jam at the top of the AFC North, discuss some critical Week 16 matchups and bring you up to speed on the latest playoff standings and scenarios in the AFC & NFC. I'll cap off the NFL segment writing the epitaph of Urban Meyer's coaching career in Jacksonville. (47:42) The Brooklyn Nets made a surprise announcement last week as they've shifted gears and will bring back point guard, Kyrie Irving to the team. Will there be any consequences upon his return? Or any backlash down the road between he and the organization? I'll share my two cents on this. Also, replacement players in the league? You read right! Due to rising cases of COVID and depletion of rosters, the NBA is instituting this for the near future. Will the quality of play possibly suffer or be compromised because of it? We witnessed the big achievement of Stephen Curry becoming the all time three point shooter in regular season history. Was the celebration over the top or a bit too much? I'll go over the Christmas Day schedule which may not be as compelling due to COVID wreaking havoc throughout the league. Anthony Davis's recent injury and how that doesn't bode well for the Lakers long term (i.e. championship aspirations), the return of Klay Thompson and much more. (1:07:11) COVID has ravaged the NHL as several teams schedules have been put to a halt until after the Christmas weekend. How will the league reschedule these games, especially with a Winter Olympics on the horizon in February? Is there a scenario where a bubble could be incorporated? (1:13:22) The New York Mets finally get their man to manage the ballclub as Buck Showalter will lead the franchise for the next three years. Is he the final piece to their championship puzzle? And talks between the players and the union in the battle of coming to a new collective bargaining agreement? (1:19:18) Jake Paul KO's Tyron Woodley in a boxing match on Saturday night. Is this something that is worth getting into? (1:19:55) As always, in closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. I'm sending out some early sports holiday cheer (and jeers) as Episode #228 delivers nothing but unbiased and opinionated chatter to keep you entertained throughout. On deck: (5:35) Get ready for the homestretch in the NFL as we're down to the final four games of the regular season. The bottom of the AFC (five 7-6 teams) & NFC (five 6-7 teams) playoff pictures are a jumbled mess at the moment. I'll assess where we're at in both conferences and where we may be possibly going forward as I'll get into my winners (Tampa Bay & Cleveland) and losers (Washington & Cincinnati) of Week 14. I'll also take a peek into the Week 15 schedule with an enormous matchup on Thursday night (Chiefs-Chargers) our first set of Saturday games (Raiders-Browns, Patriots-Colts) some key games on Sunday and a tribute to former Broncos/Texans and Jets WR Demaryius Thomas, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 33. (37:03) I'll acknowledge the final regular season game of the college football season (Army-Navy). I make no bones about how all of the bowl games (minus the college football playoff semifinals) doesn't interest me. No surprise as to who the Heisman Trophy winner is (Alabama QB, Bryce Young) but Michigan coach, Jim Harbaugh, has a bold prediction for one of his players and Heisman Trophy finalist, Aiden Hutchinson for next year's NFL Draft. (39:53) The NBA draws near to its' Christmas Day schedule, but there's a caveat that can't go understated. I'll explain. The Portland Trail Blazers have been in the news with a fired GM, their second best player (CJ McCollum) out with a collapsed lung, but the big story is perennial All-Star guard, Damien Lillard possibly looking for the exits and wanting out of Portland? There have been talks percolating for Sixers disgruntled guard, Ben Simmons as he's being dangled for potential offers from other clubs. But this is a case, where he's an 'untouchable' in reverse. The Bulls have TEN players in health and safety protocols. Will the league step in to postpone their games? Steph Curry is thisclose to becoming the all time three point regular season shooting record held by Ray Allen. Will we ever see Pelicans forward, Zion Williamson, on the court this year? I'll take a trip around the Association to keep you up to date on what's going on throughout the hardwood. (57:47) The Calgary Flames have been the latest team in the NHL to be affected by a COVID outbreak as three of their games have been postponed. But in a strange and weird twist, the Arizona Coyotes look like a team that has already checked out from being in operation based on their behavior by not paying the bills? And the commissioner, Gary Bettman, has stated that they're not threatening to relocate! Really? I'll share my thoughts on that, as well as, goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury winning his 500th victory last week. Is he a lock Hall of Famer? I'll skate around the league to inform you on the latest that's happening on the ice. (1:08:39) A new #1 in college basketball as we'll have a different top ranked team to lead the nation after Purdue loses to Rutgers in stunning fashion last week. Baylor is now the new #1 in the sport. Will it last for at least a week? (1:10:36) The Mets are still searching for a new manager, but I'll tell you who SHOULD be the guy to lead this team. AND WHY are they interviewing more unknown candidates? (1:14:16) Tiger Woods coming back to the course sooner than we thought? He'll be participating in the PNC this coming weekend with his son, Charlie. Should there be any expectations or comparisons from his young boy as the spotlight will be squarely be on him and his famous dad this weekend? (1:17:08) A shocking upset in the UFC over the weekend as Julianna Pena wins in a slugfest over Amanda Nunes in a bantamweight title fight. Will there be a rematch? A trilogy? (1:20:13) To wrap up, my Hero and Zero of the Week. December is off to a tremendous sports start and here to share my thoughts, opinions and analysis of it all as Episode #227 is full of passion and fire that you won't hear anywhere else. On deck: (5:40) The end of a very intriguing college football regular season came to a close where it's a movie that we've seen plenty over the years. The Alabama Crimson Tide are riding high from their dismantling of the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. What does this victory mean for this 'Bama team? What about the psyche of Georgia? I'll recap this game, Oklahoma State's brutal loss to Baylor, Michigan's thrashing of Iowa and Cincinnati keeping their unbeaten season alive as I'll showcase each of the Final Four teams storylines as we sit and wait for the college football playoff on New Year's Eve. Lastly, I'll chime in on some of the coaching changes that took place (i.e. USC, LSU & Oklahoma) and was it right for Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly to leave their teams hanging for greener pastures? (37:44) Week 13 in the NFL was, ehhhh! You had a couple of fantastic finishes in Detroit and Pittsburgh, but not a lot of shocks or surprises as I discuss my winners (Chargers & Lions) and losers (49ers & Broncos) of the week. I'll preview how important of a Monday night game it is for the Buffalo Bills as they face off vs. New England. I'll share my thoughts on a jam packed AFC as 12 teams are still alive in the playoff race. I'll get into how rabid yours truly gets when watching a Ravens-Steelers game and how that game came down to the wire. Of course, I'll look ahead into Week 14 as there are some good matchups on the schedule as we inch closer to the conclusion of the regular season. (1:08:16) The MLB offseason has been put on ice as the collective bargaining agreement has expired. What now? What is the issue between the players and owners? Are the owners hypocrites for doling out huge deals to date, when they're trying to cut costs? I'll get into it all, even come up with a possible timeframe for when this should be done if they plan on getting next season started on time AND what does this mean for players like Freddie Freeman, Carlos Correa, Trevor Story, Kris Bryant who haven't signed as of yet? (1:19:25) The Phoenix Suns were shining bright as they were able to pull off an 18 game winning streak. No NBA Finals hangover for Chris Paul & company. Can they continue to put the pressure and threaten the Warriors and get back to another Finals appearance? And what happened to the Oklahoma City Thunder? They lost by how many to a Ja Morant-less Memphis Grizzlies team? You know I've got a couple of things to say about this. There been a couple of key injuries (i.e. Damian Lillard & Bam Adebayo) to the Blazers and Heat. Also, have the Knicks started to bottom out after a 5-1 start? (1:25:53) There's a new #1 in college basketball as Duke loses to Ohio State last week, so the Purdue Boilermakers step up to the top spot in a pretty topsy turvy start to the college basketball season. (1:27:40) A couple of coaches have walked the plank in the NHL in Vancouver & Philadelphia. (i.e. Travis Green & Alain Vigneault) and the Islander losing streak (11) has reached new lows. Is it too late for them to dig out of this crater that they've caused? (1:30:01) Tiger Woods was in the news as he had a press conference last week to discuss his recovery, how grateful he is and when can we see him back on the golf course? Another Ho-Hum NFL Sunday. RIP 2021 Steelers. Michigan Slays Dragon. Mets Spending To The 'Max'. Suns Scorching. Zags Zig. Brooks Bests Bryson

As you polish off your Thanksgiving leftovers, I'll serve up plenty of dessert to satisfy your sports tooth as Episode #226 is primed and ready to go. On deck: (5:39) It was another ho-hum weekend for the NFL after an underwhelming Thanksgiving holiday schedule as the season continues to drag along. I'll highlight the winners (Buffalo & San Francisco) and losers (an early epitaph for my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers) and other key takeaways (The officiating throughout the league. The end of Cam Newton. New England's success. I'm still not sold. I explain why. A look at the Week 13 slate. The first ballot nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and more.) (35:37) The college football season has superseded the NFL, in my opinion, as Jim Harbaugh FINALLY slayed the Ohio State Buckeye dragon as they upend their rivals and their playoff chances in the process. Is it time to celebrate in Ann Arbor? Why this win isn't the end all, be all for the Wolverines? I'll discuss the chances for Alabama as they'll face the #1 team in the country in Georgia. Do they have a shot? Also, will some potential fresh blood in the Final Four bring morePlus, all of the other possibilities for teams to sneak into the top four (i.e. Notre Dame, Oklahoma St. and Baylor) as Conference Championship Week is on the horizon. (49:57) MLB has surprised yours truly as there has been plenty of activity on the transaction front, with the Mets being at the forefront of the free agent party, which delivered four players including three time Cy Young Award winner, Max Scherzer (NOTE: This was made official after recording, but I do share some thoughts on it.) Are the Mets done with improving their team? What other reinforcements do they need to compete? Will the top shortstops (i.e. Carlos Correa, Trevor Story, Corey Seager, Javier Baez) among others, get signed before the Collective Bargaining Agreement expires at midnight on December 1st? I'll have a hot take on that, as well as, how shrewd were the Tampa Bay Rays were in signing budding superstar, Wander Franco to a long term deal? (Although it comes with a caveat) And I know the Yankees and Brian Cashman are laying in the weeds as I'm sure a blockbuster trade and/or free agent signing is forthcoming. (1:09:17) The NBA season is at the quarter mark. Besides the Warriors being a top story to date, the Suns have been scorching out West nipping at the heels of Golden State. The East has been a log jam early on as 13 teams are separated by six games. There was no fallout from the Pistons and Lakers second go round, where Isaiah Stewart and LeBron James were suspended last week, but will there be any carryover in Miami as Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris re-acquaint themselves after their run-in a few weeks back in Denver? (1:13:52) College basketball talk before December? You better believe it as I'll get into Gonzaga's busy week where they destroy #2 UCLA (which was a far cry from the Final Four game back in April) but then lose a tight one against #5 Duke. Even #4 Kansas was upset by Dayton as the sport is looking to take a page out of what the college football season has exhibited to this point. (1:17:40) The Islanders season has now taken a turn for the worse as they've played more home games than they've won AND scored goals combined! (Four home games, three goals scored, zero games won) Now, with a COVID outbreak throughout the team that's postponed a few games from their schedule, it begs the question. Is this break a blessing or a curse? The Canadiens front office has cleaned house as GM Marc Bergevin has been fired where assistant GM, Scott Mellanby, stepped down abruptly. Is there something going on in Montreal that we don't know about? And where will former Sharks forward, Evander Kane end up, now that he's a free agent? (1:25:01) I'll touch on the charity golf event between Brooks Koepka vs. Bryson Dechambeau in where the post match interviews between the two were more entertaining than what took place on the course as Koepka dominates Dechambeau over the 12 hole contest. (1:27:00) Lastly, I'll have my Hero and Zero of the Week. Colts Stampede, Titan-ic Upset Highlights NFL WK 12 Winners & Losers. Ohio St.: Hottest Team In Nation? Lakers Malaise. Islanders Sinking. MLB Signings

As you prepare to give thanks for all that's in your life through food, family and football, I'll be sure to set the table with all of the fixins and serve up some hard hitting sports talk to whet your appetite as Episode #225 is hot out of the oven! On deck: (6:50) The NFL had a very interesting Week 11, with some surprising winners (i.e. MIN & IND) and shocking losers (i.e. TEN & BUF) as I cover all that happened throughout the league. Is it time to take the Colts seriously? What about the Patriots? Can the Eagles make a run in the NFC East? Is the Chief defense for real? I'll share a take or two on the Steelers wild comeback falling short vs. the Chargers. I'll take an early peek at the Thanksgiving games (HINT: Not too much to write home about!) and a captivating Week 12 schedule to cap off your holiday weekend. (40:36) The college football season continues to impress as there were not one, but two teams, that drop out of the running for the playoff set for New Year's Eve as Michigan State and Oregon were embarrassed on Saturday. What does this mean for Cincinnati? Are they an automatic to make the college football playoff? Is Ohio State the hottest team in the country? I'll preview what will be a fascinating slate of games this weekend, highlighted by the grudge match at the Big House between Ohio St. vs. Michigan. (55:58) The Lakers (aka The Expendables) haven't been able to get in sync during the early part of the season. The big news was the fracas in Detroit where LeBron James whacked Isaiah Stewart across the face after a free throw attempt. Will this team get out of their malaise any time soon? I compare them to another veteran team of the past that had their shortcomings, but made it to an NBA Final in the process. I'll also get into the potential return of Klay Thompson, the first coach fired this season comes from the Sacramento Kings, a huge loss for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Phoenix Suns torrid streak and other top stories from the past week in the Association. (1:06:00) The Islanders have ended their 13 game odyssey throughout North America with two home games in their brand spanking new arena (UBS Arena) over the past weekend. But when they ended their long road trip with a four game losing streak, only to top it off with two more losses at home, which begs the question. Will they be able to turn it around quickly and not fall any deeper in the Eastern Conference? I'll discuss the latest with a key player from the two time defending Cup champions going out indefinitely with an injury (TB's Brayden Point), a COVID breakout in Ottawa and the Thanksgiving Friday game which has become an annual matchup between two original six teams (i.e. Rangers-Bruins) (1:15:53) There's been some activity in free agency throughout baseball with the impending doom of the collective bargaining agreement expiring on December 1st. Some pitchers have re-signed with their team (Toronto's Jose Berrios) and some have changed addresses, which includes former Mets starter, Noah Syndergaard. So you know I have a couple of things to get off of my chest about this. The Yankees are posturing for a big off-season, but again, baseball armageddon is coming. Will it be a long, cold, hard winter for the sport? I also have a few choice words for super agent Scott Boras as he chimes in about how teams are 'tanking' before the trade deadline and how it affects business with his clients. (1:22:54) Welterweight Terence Crawford wins in a 10th round TKO over Shawn Porter on Saturday night. Is there a chance that we can see a fight with Errol Spence, Jr. on the horizon? (1:24:59) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. The NFL's Disappointing First Half! Week 10 Winners & Losers! Bye-Bye Oklahoma. Michigan Survives. Golden State's Surprise Start. Coach K's Final Lap. Ovechkin's Quest

I'm in a shockingly cranky sports mood to start, but it makes for a compelling podcast as Episode #224 delivers top notch analysis and opinions on all that's happening in the sports landscape. On deck: (5:27) The NFL is passed the halfway point of the season. To put it nicely, this hasn't been one to write home about. I get into why it's been a disappointing season to date. I'll get into my winners (Chiefs, Patriots) and losers (Ravens, Broncos) of the week, the difference between a wide open AFC and top heavy NFC, go through another less than exciting week of games, culminated by the dreadful performance of the 16-16 tie between the Lions vs. Steelers, which YOU KNOW, I'll have a thing or two to share about that! (30:39) The Oklahoma Sooners are the next team that have kissed their playoff chances goodbye, but the talk was about what Baylor did at the end of the game. Was it right for Baylor coach, Dave Aranda to kick a meaningless field goal as time expired? Plus, Michigan pulled out a huge victory at Penn State to keep their playoff hopes alive. I'll have an up to the minute look at the college football playoff landscape. (40:49) The NBA has been quiet for the most part, but the story early on this first month of the season is the hot start of the Golden State Warriors. Are they the biggest surprise in the league so far? What about the Washington Wizards? Also, is the Nikola Jokic-Markieff Morris dustup this past week going to have a life of its own as Jokic's brothers have gotten involved inciting a Twitter feud with the Morris brothers? I'll share my thoughts on another executive, this time from the Portland Trail Blazers, that had to resign due to an investigation regarding workplace concerns. I'll take a trip around the hardwood throughout the Association and get you caught up on all that's happening. (47:27) College basketball is underway! One of the big storylines throughout the sport is the final go-round for legendary Duke coach, Mike Krzyzewski, as they start off their season with a win vs. Kentucky. People are already thinking that they are Final Four bound come March. Is it premature to even think that? Plus, Gonzaga has a 'championship or bust' mentality as they're out of the gate with a 2-0 record. (49:58) Alexander Ovechkin continues to be his dominant goal scoring self as he's creeping up the all time list. He's now in 4th place behind Jaromir Jagr, Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky. Can he catch the Great One? Sidney Crosby has made his return back from COVID. Do they still garner respect as a championship caliber team? Has their window closed? I'll see what else is happening in the NHL as check on some surprises and disappointments, including the health status of Canadiens goaltender, Carey Price as we're more than a month into the season. (57:03) Lastly, I'll have my Hero and Zero of the Week. Another sport has crowned a champion, so the fall sports are now front and center. I've got all that's shaking throughout the entire landscape as Episode #223 is chock full of opinions, analysis and critiques ready for your listening pleasure. On deck: (6:07) With baseball out of our consciousness, all of early part of the NBA, NHL seasons, the teeth of the college football schedule about to be played, it's going to be all about The Shield (a.k.a. The NFL) They went through a week that they'd like to forget as the league had to endure one its players involved in a fatal car accident (i.e. Henry Ruggs) a positive COVID test and spoken untruth from arguably its best player (i.e. Aaron Rodgers) and drama surrounding its talented, yet mercurial wide receiver (i.e. Odell Beckham, Jr.) as he gets his release from the Cleveland Browns. Of course, I'll discuss my winners (Denver & Cleveland) and losers (Buffalo, LA Rams, New Orleans) of Week 9 and how this season has been underwhelming to date. (40:22) The craziness of college football has come to roost yet again as Michigan State falls by the wayside and are on the outside looking in for the playoffs come New Year's Eve. I'll detail the week that was in the sport, including an early look as to who I see making it to the college football playoff late next month. (50:56) I'll recap a World Series championship win by the Atlanta Braves, as unexpected of a Series run that we've seen. Now, we must fasten our seatbelts for what looks like a long, cold, hard winter of negotiations as the owners and players will have to come up with a new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) which will most likely be a fight to the bitter end. Will there be a new agreement in time for the 2022 season? Will it be delayed? Postponed? (56:17) The NBA is going to have to deal with another scenario regarding an owner with alleged racist and misogynistic comments as Robert Sarver of the Suns has been reported in the past week by ESPN. Even with the investigation ongoing, what should the NBA do? Is Sarver on his way out? I'll also take a trip around the Association to see what's the latest, including normalcy is back in the Eastern Conference, Joel Embiid will have to sit out due to a positive COVID test and is this the beginning of the end of LeBron James's indestructibility? (1:03:52) The ongoing saga in Buffalo with center Jack Eichel has come to an end. He gets dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights for players and draft picks. Who got the better of the deal? Plus, Sidney Crosby's return to the ice from a wrist injury was brief (i.e. COVID) and the rest of what's happening on the ice as we're closing in on the first complete month of the NHL season. (1:13:27) Canelo Alvarez has unified all four titles in the super middleweight division. With his record (57-1-2, 39 KO's) is he considered an all time great fighter in the history of boxing? (1:20:05) In MMA, Kamaru Usman defeats longtime rival Colby Covington in a close decision on Saturday night as they've competed in ten fights! Is this one time (or five times) too many? Has this matchup become tiresome? (1:22:50) Of course, I wrap up with my Hero and Zero of the Week. A new day, new week and new month as November ushers into our consciousness so even with the leaves changing and the temperature dropping, the sports world continues to stay hot as I'll have plenty to say about it as Episode #222 is ready for your listening pleasure. On deck: (6:53) The World Series has now made its turn past the weekend and into a Game 6 in Houston. I'll recap all that took place to this point as the Astros stave off elimination. Can the Astros extend this series? Will the Braves win Game 6? Or 7? What is a potential key factor the Astros as they do their best to push this series to a decisive winner take all, Game 7? I'll get into the length of these World Series games. What can they do to fix it? And can any of these hitters take a strike especially in the later innings? I'll also talk about the Padres hire of former A's manager, Bob Melvin. And the Mets continued, but failing pursuit for a VP of baseball operations and skipper to lead this franchise next year. (33:56) NFL Week 8 had some intriguing outcomes as we inch closer to the midway point of the season. I'll share my winners (GB, NO) and losers (CIN, CLE) of the week. It's time for Odell Beckham Jr. to be dealt from Cleveland and other notes as I look back on the schedule this past Sunday. (52:47) The Big Ten schedule has begun their Battle Royale slate as Michigan loses a brutal game to their in-state rivals, Michigan State. Iowa couldn't muster up any offense vs. Wisconsin and Penn State's comeback fell short vs. Ohio State as those games were the highlight in college football this past week. Does Michigan still have a shot at college football's Final Four? What about Michigan State? (1:01:28) Who would've thought that the top of the Eastern Conference after two weeks would have the Knicks, Wizards, Bulls and Hornets as teams above the Sixers, Bucks, Nets and Celtics in the standing? Are these teams for real? Can they sustain this early season success? (1:06:35) The Chicago Blackhawks have gone through the ringer and the season is only three weeks old. They've had several players come down with COVID, have not been able to win a game to date, but its the fallout from the sexual assault allegations regarding a former assistant coach towards a player, Kyle Beach, more than a decade ago that has rocked the organization and the league. In the process, the former coach, Joel Quenneville, who was in Florida coaching the Panthers, has resigned. I'll discuss the after effects of this sad and sordid story and take a look around the ice for the latest and greatest in the NHL. (1:17:03) In closing, I have my Hero and Zero of the Week. As we enter the week of Halloween, the sports world always has a couple of treats, but quite a few tricks. I'll pass out some of the good and bad as Episode #221 is ready for consumption. On deck: (5:09) Baseball fans! The Fall Classic is set! I'll review the roads that the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves took to get to the World Series, the storylines of this upcoming series and how they'll fare as they shoot for a championship (and I'll have a prediction, of course). I'll also get into how the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers limp into the offseason, the Cardinals fire and hire a new manager and should former Giants GM Brian Sabean receive a call from the New York Mets about their front office position? (33:35) NFL Week 7 was a complete atrocity. The schedule produced a lot of lopsided scores as it was a week to forget. I'll have my winners (CIN, LV) and losers (KC, SF) and take a peek at at Week 8 slate that looks just as bad as Week 7. (47:32) Penn St. becomes the latest top ranked team to take an 'L' in college football, but the battle royale will begin in the Big Ten starting this weekend as the schedule intensifies in the conference. I'll discuss that, as well as, will Alabama get picked off before the SEC Championship Game based on their recent sloppy play? (55:55) The Lakers and Nets have gotten off to not so good starts, but the talk in the Association is the saga of Ben Simmons and his likely departure in Philadelphia. What should the 76ers do? How will they go about getting rid of the mercurial point guard? I'll check on the hot and cold starts to some of the teams throughout the league. And you know, I have to add my two shiny red pennies to the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team. How I disagree with a couple of selections and a few snubs that's getting traction, but not with yours truly. You won't want to miss on what I have to say about that! (1:14:38) The NHL is into its second week. The Blackhawks are the latest team to get hit by COVID and they haven't won a game so far this season. I'll go through some of the teams that are making waves to this point and the others that surprisingly are scuffling out of the gate. (1:17:57) And to close, there's my Hero and Zero of the Week. The podcast may have been postponed by a day, but that means more to divulge from yours truly, as I'll delve into everything that the sports world has to offer as Episode #220 is hot off of the presses. On deck: (5:34) I start off the podcast with a little housekeeping as I discuss my whereabouts over the past week, as to why I didn't release my usual Monday podcast yesterday. (7:45) The MLB postseason gets us off the deck. It hasn't been the most memorable or one to remember just yet. I'll go over why it's been underwhelming to this point (i.e. White Sox, Rays and Brewers.) The controversial 'check swing' call in the Division Series finale between the Dodgers and Giants. (Although it didn't affect the outcome of the situation. I'll explain!) I'll bring you up to speed on the current state of the AL & NLCS, which begs the question? Can the Astros and Dodgers fight back to win their respective series with a date for a World Championship on the line? What would be the best World Series matchup of the final four teams left? Also, the Yankees re-sign Aaron Boone as their manager, but for how long? (27:01) NFL Week 6 had its moments, but it was overshadowed by the resignation of Raiders head coach, Jon Gruden. I have a thought on that, in connection with the Washington Football Team and owner Daniel Snyder as to get his feet to the fire on all that's taken place down in the Nation's Capital over the past decade. I'll share my winners (BAL & JAX) and losers (CLE, CHI) of the week. As well as, the bloom is off of the rose regarding CBS color commentator Tony Romo as his schtick has become tiresome, in my eyes. (48:42) The Iowa Hawkeyes caused a stir as the latest in the top four of college football to lose and plummet in the rankings. Even bigger news was reported off the field as three coaches (LSU's Ed Orgeron's exit at the end of the year, Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher shooting down rumors to LSU and Washington State's Nick Rolovich was jettisoned because he did not get vaccinated prior to the deadline set by the administration.) Plus, an early look at the upcoming schedules in the Big Ten over the next month and change for Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State. (59:32) The NBA tips off its 75th season and I have lots to dive into as far as storylines (i.e. Are we destined for a Nets-Lakers Finals? The soap opera that is the Nets (i.e. Kyrie Irving). Why Anthony Davis is the key to winning a championship? Can Utah and Phoenix rebound from great regular seasons last year?) among other questions throughout the league. I'll have a preview, my over/under numbers, an NBA Finals prediction and what will the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team will look like? (1:26:29) The NHL season is a week old. Just a couple of things to get into whether it's the Kraken's first ever victory, Islanders slow start, an early injury impacting the back to back Cup winning Tampa Bay Lightning and the troubles continue in the life of Sharks forward, Evander Kane, as he's been suspended for 21 games because of established violation of COVID protocols. (1:29:28) College basketball, anyone? I'll discuss who the preseason #1 is and go through the top 10 as this sport will make its way into our stratosphere in the not too distant future. (1:30:53) As always, to close out, my Hero and Zero of the Week. It was a busy sports week throughout the landscape so you know I got you covered as Episode #219 is ready to rumble with some fast paced, action packed sports talk. On deck: (5:08) I start off with some housekeeping to forewarn you about playing injured as I battle through the podcast with a very hoarse voice. (6:28) I recap the past week of the MLB playoffs as I get into the controversy of Game 3 with the ground rule double of the Red Sox-Rays. Can the Rays save their historic regular season and push the series to a decisive fifth game? The Astros took a 2-0 series lead, but the White Sox have made it interesting, amidst reports of a Sox pitcher claiming that there may be some sign stealing going on. Can the Astros close them out in their own park? In the National League, the Dodgers evened up their hotly contested series against their bitter rivals in San Francisco. Can the defending champs close out the 107 regular season win Giants? And will the Braves be able to upset the Brewers in a low scoring couple of games that led to a split in Milwaukee? I'll also discuss the exits of two managers in San Diego and my beloved Mets as they'll be in search mode for a new skipper. (24:38) The week (five) that was in the NFL was rather quiet despite a couple of exciting games. I'll get into the winners (Rams & Eagles) and losers (Chiefs & Raiders as I go in on both teams, including the controversy surrounding Raider coach, Jon Gruden's comments a decade ago) and everything else that went down (ahem, Jaguars coach, Urban Meyer), including a look into Week 6 (which looks to be more of a bore) of the schedule. (44:51) College football had a classic Red River Shootout (Oklahoma vs. Texas), but the Alabama Crimson Tide losing at Texas A&M was the top story of Saturday. What are their chances of making the college football playoff now that they've dropped to #5 in the nation? Plus, all of the other action as the top of the heap continues to flip flop as the drama builds in the sport. (55:52) The fall and winter sports will usher in over the next two weeks. Up first, is the NHL as I'll preview the top storylines (Lightning three-peat? Kraken's inaugural season, Maple Leafs rebound from playoff disappointment. CORRECTION: The Maple Leafs did not win the Eastern Conference last year. It was the Northern Division), go through the divisions and present a Stanley Cup Final prediction and winner, which may or may not surprise you! (1:09:17) I'll spend a minute or two on the damage control by the representation of Sixers guard, Ben Simmons as he's losing money by the second as he continues to not report to the team. Why this is going to be irreparable with the fans and the impact that it'll have if he stays in Philadelphia? (1:10:39) There was a heavyweight fight in boxing as the third fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder squaring off in Vegas turned out to be an absolute slugfest. Was it an instant classic? (1:13:02) To close out, my Hero and Zero of the Week. (1:15:39) I'll also have a programming note for next week's podcast that you won't want to miss. One of the best, if not, the best sports month of the year has arrived as we've turned the calendar to October and here to deliver all that the sports world has to offer as Episode #218 is ready to be streamed, downloaded and consumed. On deck: (5:38) I have to vent about how my current sports life, to put it bluntly, sucks right about now! I'll get into why I start off this podcast in such a feisty mood. (10:17) The marathon of a baseball season is over. Now it's onto the Hunt for Red October as the postseason is about to commence. I'll dive into the top storylines on the eve of the playoffs, key injuries, the matchups of the Wild Card and Division Series, with some early predictions as the chase for the World Series Trophy is all set. (33:19) I highlight the winners (i.e. Arizona & Seattle) and losers (Tennessee & New Orleans) of Week 4 in the NFL. It was a rather ho-hum Sunday throughout the league, but the biggest game in several years took place as the return of Tom Brady to his old stomping grounds in Foxborough as the Buccaneers squeaked by the Patriots in a much ballyhooed matchup between the defending Super Bowl champs and Bill Belichick. I'll delve into all that transpired this past week for Brady and his former team. I'll even share a thought on the announcement of the Super Bowl halftime show of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige. (55:55) Look out college football, but there may be an underdog that's here to stay in the playoff scenario as the Cincinnati Bearcats upset the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish, which begs the question, can they possibly be a representative for the Final Four come New Years' Eve? I'll breakdown the potential angles of how they can make it, plus, quite a few top teams take a hit to their championship aspirations (i.e. Arkansas, Notre Dame, Florida and Oregon) in another wild and wacky Saturday in the sport. (1:04:31) The NBA season starts in just two weeks. Vaccinations in two locales (i.e. New York and San Francisco) have become hot topics, in particular for Nets point guard, Kyrie Irving. I'll have an update on him and Warriors guard Andrew Wiggins as the league prepares for the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Association. (1:07:02) An interesting story has come about in the NHL regarding Vegas goalie, Robin Lehner and how there's been medical malpractice throughout the league when it comes to abusing pharmaceuticals. Will this been an ongoing story as the league raises its curtain a week from tomorrow? (1:09:41) As always, I conclude with my Hero and Zero of the Week. Autumn is in the air as we're already looking ahead to October. But first, we have lots of business to cover in the sports world as Episode #216 is in full effect. On deck: (6:14) Another wacky, zany week in the NFL as it did not disappoint with last second record breaking field goals, last second field goals in general, record breaking run backs were in store as I highlight my winners (LAC, CIN) and losers (DET, NYG/NYJ & the NFL) Wait! The NFL? Yes. Them. I'll also address the Steelers issues and how it may not get better soon. The obvious hype and hoopla leading into the biggest game of the year as Tom Brady heads to Foxborough to face his old team in New England on Sunday Night Football. (48:20) As I recap a ho-hum college football week, we won't have to worry about Clemson getting back to a college playoff as they've suffered their second loss and we haven't even hit October. Also, will Arkansas continue to make waves in the sport as they're off to a hot start, but with a visit to #2 Georgia on Saturday and a trip to Alabama later in the season, they certainly have their work cut out to stake their claim as a top program in the country. (55:35) The Cardinals have steamrolled to the second wild card in the NL, winners of 16 in a row. Have they peaked too soon? As for the Yankees, they've streaked to the top of the AL wild card with six games to go. Will they hang on to host a postseason home game next Tuesday? Will the Phillies catch the Braves? Who'll win the NL West. I'll provide an up to the second pennant race update as to who may qualify and who'll be left out? (1:08:43) The Ryder Cup provided little to no drama as the Americans destroyed the Europeans in convincing fashion, 19-9. What was the turning point? What was the fuel that led to the US winning decisively? Have Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau buried the hatchet to their long standing feud? (1:14:08) NBA training camps will open up this week and Kyrie Irving is already in the news (i.e. vaccinations), but the big story is what's taking place in Philadelphia with the Ben Simmons saga as he wants out and won't report to camp. What affect will this have on the team? Which team will help broker this impending divorce? (1:21:01) A couple of NHL news and notes regarding the Penguins Evgeni Malkin, the Sabres Jack Eichel and the Wild sign their future and rookie of the year, Kirill Kaprizov. (1:22:41) As always, in closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Autumn is on deck here in 2021, but so is the latest Episode #215 as it delivers nothing but fire, passion and intensity as I bring you up to speed on all that's happening in the world of sports. Here's what's on tap: (5:56) We're into the homestretch of the MLB season and the Wild Card chase is front and center as two of its preseason favorites (i.e. Padres & Yankees) are on the cusp of early vacations this fall. Will they fare well over the last two weeks and make the playoffs? As for the teams that are riding high, the Cardinals are primed to play the winner of the Dodgers or Giants as they've steamrolled to the second spot of the Wild Card race. I'll have an up to the minute recap of all that's going on in the pennant races throughout the AL & NL and put to rest the 2021 NY Mets and the wonderful documentary, Once Upon A Time in Queens, the ESPN 30 For 30 Documentary on the 1986 Mets. (37:14) NFL Week 2 had some tense moments, but overall wasn't captivating any of the fans hearts or imaginations. My winners (Ravens, Raiders) and losers (Saints, Seahawks) highlight this past week, as well as, thoughts on my beloved Steelers in losing to Las Vegas at home, the rest of the schedule this past Sunday and my knockout pick for Week 3. (56:08) Is there concern for the Alabama defense? They displayed a few warts that we haven't seen for some time. Could there be a loss on their schedule in the near future? Is QB Bryce Young on the fast track to a Heisman Trophy? I'll review the latest rankings in this rather quiet Week 3 in college football, with a look to an even quieter Week 4. (1:04:49) The Ryder Cup kicks off the weekend this Friday at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. How will the Americans play against their brethren overseas? Will the Bryson Dechambeau-Brooks Koepka rivalry come to a boil during this tournament? Also, as good as he's been of late, how is Patrick Cantlay the #1 player in the world? I'll share some thoughts on this. (1:10:00) As NHL training camp approaches, the Islanders signed a player whose career comes full circle, but may be impactful. Is Zdeno Chara the missing piece that the team needs to get themselves to the Stanley Cup? Will his leadership and experience be enough to put them over the top? (1:15:23) The Association is kind of low key, but there are a couple of things to discuss. John Wall and the Rockets have agreed to a divorce. What teams may be in play? The announcement of new Bucks play by play TV announcer is historic. Clippers owner, Steve Ballmer, has his sights set on a new arena in Inglewood to establish some presence and identity in LA, to distance themselves from their current roommates, the Lakers (aka The Expendables). (1:19:23) To wrap up, I'll have my Hero and Zero of the Week. I'm ready to rock another action packed, fast paced sports podcast party and everyone is invited as Episode #214 is online ready for consumption. On deck: (5:21) Week 1 of the NFL did not disappoint. I'll discuss the biggest winners (Arizona, Miami) and losers (Green Bay, Buffalo & Tennessee) of the opening week and go through the schedule to see what took place in a wild and crazy start to the season. (37:16) The wild card pennant races in the AL & NL are heating up, especially with both New York teams right in the middle of it. A hotly contested Subway Series over the weekend was the highlight in there were lots of fireworks coming from Mets SS Francisco Lindor with his bat and mouth. Also, it's time for the Yankees to trade Gary Sanchez and their plight over the last two weeks. Plus, the latest with who's still fighting for a playoff spot and who's fading fast. And a thought on the upcoming ESPN 30 for 30: Once Upon A Time in Queens, a documentary on the 1986 NY Mets. (58:36) The top story out of college football this past week was how the Oregon Ducks pulled off an upset not a lot of people saw as they beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. Does this mean it's curtains for Ohio State's chances of making it to the college football playoff? I'll get into that and recap some of the better matchups of Saturday, update the latest top ten rankings and look ahead to Week 4. (1:06:33) The last Grand Slam event of the tennis season was intriguing as we have a teenage winner on the women's side (Emma Radacanu) and her journey to being a champion. But the main story was how Novak Djokovic's quest for immortality was shut down as Daniil Medvedev is your 2021 men's champ. I'll dissect what possibly happened to 'Joker' and how he fell short of winning the tournament, capturing his 21st title which would've been a record and becoming the first player in 52 years to win a calendar Grand Slam. (1:14:54) Lastly, an update of Evander Holyfield filling in for Oscar de la Hoya in a fight that took place over the weekend. Needless to say, it didn't end up well. Same for Tito Ortiz in his fight with Anderson Silva. (1:17:30) Of course, there's my Hero and Zero of the Week. The Phillies and Mets have cut into the divsion lead, but an intriguing week schedule wise could be a true test as they chase Atlanta for the top spot. The Yankees have cooled off after a torrid winning streak. The Mariners have overachieved as they're putting pressure on the teams above them in the AL wild card race. I discuss my over/under win totals as we hit the homestretch and what will Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame speech sound like come Wednesday night in Cooperstown? (45:15) The NFL season is on the horizon. I'll get into the Week 1 storylines, including the release of Cam Newton in New England. The controversy surrounding vaccinated and unvaccinated players coming out of training camp and into the season. The big games on the schedule for the first week. With my 2021 Preview upcoming on Thursday, I'll share a nugget on who my knockout pool pick will be come Sunday. (1:01:41) College football's first week had a quite few good matchups, but most did not live up to the hype. Georgia was stout in their win against Clemson. How that stacks up when it comes to the college football playoff down the road? Alabama was unstoppable, Notre Dame had to hang on to win vs. Florida State. #2 seed Oklahoma holds on win while being the 'road' team at home. Those are some of the games I'll discuss and I'll take a look ahead to Week 2. (1:09:52) The Expendables, ahem, I mean, Lakers are at it again as they bring in ANOTHER reinforcement/mercenary in their quest to keep LeBron James happy for the franchise's 18th championship. The Nets also take a page out of the Expendables, bringing in two players, one who retired suddenly as a member of the team last year (i.e. Lamarcus Aldridge) and one who has lots of postseason experience (Paul Millsap). Plus, the Ben Simmons drama is percolating in Philadelphia as he wants out before the start of the year. Will it happen? Could this be a potential distraction? Who may be involved in trading for the talented, but disgruntled All-Star? (1:17:20) A couple of NHL notes with a new COVID protocol and the players will participate in the Winter Games next year. (1:17:56) The US Open tennis tournament has taken an unexpected twist as FIVE major developments have boiled to the surface over the past few days as the #3 men's player (i.e. Stefanos Tsitsipas) has been surprisingly ousted before the quarterfinals. The rise of 18 year old Carlos Alcaraz as he becomes the youngest player in 58 years to make the quarterfinal round. On the woman's side, another player rising in stature is Laylah Fernandez as she defeats both Naomi Osaka AND Angelique Kerber to thrust herself in the conversation to push for a semifinal or finals berth. The #1 women's player won't be around for a title as she gets bounced from the tournament after holding a comfortable lead against Shelby Rogers. I also get into the emotional press conference of Naomi Osaka and how this could be the last we see of her for quite some time. And then Sloane Stephens shares her experience of the hate and vitriol that's spewed on her social media accounts. (1:33:30) Golfer Patrick Cantlay has won back to back tournaments over the course of eight days. Is this something to cherish or applaud? Or is it because it's not a major, does it not matter? Should we focus in on him being a top level player on the tour? (1:36:32) Former boxing champion Oscar de la Hoya had an upcoming fight this weekend but had to bow out due to contracting the coronavirus. You won't believe who his replacement is scheduled to be. Evander Holyfield. YES! That Evander Holyfield! (1:38:25) And of course, I close out with my Hero and Zero of the Week. In Yanks We Trust Come October? Thumbs Down On Mets, Baez & Lindor. NFL Over/Unders, College Football Preview. New Lakers: The Expendables! Novak's 'Slam' Chase. Taking Jake Paul Seriously?

August is about to depart and September is around the corner, but in the moment is my take on all that's going on in sports as Episode #211 has arrived. On deck: (5:55) The polar opposites of the New York baseball teams as they've made news in the sport this past week. First up, the Yankees just completed a 13 game winning streak, putting themselves in prime position to make the postseason. It does pose the question, do you trust this core (i.e. Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Torres, etc.) to deliver a championship? (17:33) Another rant about the god forsaken team that I root for in the Mets. How analytics ruined a big start by Taijuan Walker, the Javier Baez 'Thumbs Down' fiasco to the fans and there MUST be a complete house cleaning in store from the top on down as this team needs to do some major self-analysis this offseason. Plus, I'll take a look at the MLB playoff landscape as we head into the final month of the season. (43:00) The NFL season is a week plus upon us. I'll review the over/under win totals for the year. Perhaps I'll give you a peek as to who I may choose come next week. I'll even get into my potential knockout pool pick to start off Week 1. I'll highlight what's going on throughout the league with some news and notes. (54:04) The college football season is underway. I'll get into the first matchup of note this past weekend, what lies ahead this weekend as the highlight game will take place between #5 Georgia vs. #3 Clemson. I'll preview if there'll be a change at the top of the college football rankings at all throughout the course of the year, the alliance between the PAC-12, ACC & Big Ten and who'll be Heisman hopefuls come December? (1:02:14) The Association was quiet, but there were a few transactions that took place. The Knicks offered Julius Randle a fair extension for some team flexibility. The new look Lakers add another familiar piece in Rajon Rondo as I'm going to dub them 'The Expendables' after the action movie and its mega cast of action heroes of the past. Is Kevin Garnett's Celtic number worthy of being risen up to the rafters at the TD Garden in Boston? (1:09:17) Some signings in the NHL, a change in representation for Sabres' Jack Eichel as I've discussed in a recent podcast and a sad, untimely passing of former player, Jimmy Hayes. (1:13:55) The final major tennis tournament of the year (US Open) with the only storyline being Novak Djokovic's chase for immortality in completing the calendar Grand Slam. Will he do it? Will the pressure mount as he gets closer to winning? What about the women's side as Naomi Osaka returns for her first Slam appearance since the Australian Open. (1:20:08) Jake Paul is continuing to make his way and name in the world of boxing as he wins a split decision against former MMA fighter, Tyron Woodley. Is this a guy that we're going to have to take seriously? (1:23:05) A thrilling six hole playoff goes under the radar, because it wasn't a major golf tournament, had Patrick Cantlay winning over Bryson Dechambeau as golf starts to gear up for the Ryder Cup coming soon. (1:25:01) And closing out with my Hero and Zero of the Week. Summer may be starting to slip away, but the sports universe isn't ready to go off into the sunset just yet. I've got you all covered as Episode #210 is fresh off the presses. On deck: (6:21) All seems to be right in the MLB as the following teams who had slow and sluggish starts and were expected to do big things this year (ATL, LAD & NYY) have all been a part of nine game winning streaks to propel them in great position to participate in the playoffs this October. Detroit's Miguel Cabrera hits his 500th home run of his illustrious career. Who is the next guy in line to hit one of baseball's biggest milestones? MLB is scheduling another 'Field of Dreams' Game next year between the Cubs and Reds. Will it capture the imagination and success the way it did this year? I'll have an up to the minute report on a couple of teams coming on strong in the Wild Card race as the pennant chase heats up with September on the horizon. (37:41) The NFL preseason will close out this week and there's a lot of promise in NY surrounding #2 overall pick in QB, Zach Wilson. Why his productive training camp may not translate to success in the regular season? Same for Trey Lance in SF as he's looking to stake his claim as the starting QB over Jimmy Garoppolo. Could that possibly happen? My thoughts on HBO's Hard Knocks with the Dallas Cowboys. Plus, a key injury with the Jets (Carl Lawson), a key re-signing in Seattle (Jamal Adams) and two players recovering quickly from injury could be on a practice field this week (Indianapolis QB Carson Wentz and OG Quentin Nelson) and with college football just ten days away, I'll have who AP ranks as the #1 team in the nation. (It comes as no surprise.) (52:20) The NBA schedule highlights the big news of the week. I'll detail the Christmas Day matchups, as well as, who'll play opening night to tip off the 75th anniversary of the Association. LeBron James not receiving one vote for being the best player in the league? I was shocked to see how low the NBA over/under win totals for the upcoming year were. I have a reason why that you won't want to miss. The Celtics have re-signed a couple of key contributors with their team (Marcus Smart & Robert Williams) Why is the Draymond Green-Kevin Durant squabble from two seasons ago rearing its ugly head today? Was the coach/GM of Golden State to blame as to why Durant didn't re-sign with the Warriors? Also, what's the latest with Ben Simmons's status as a member of the 76ers? (1:09:54) The Arizona Coyotes will need to look for a new address to play? Will they stay in the state? Is Houston a possible destination? The NHL will adopt the ads on jerseys starting the year after next. The #1 pick of the draft this year will not suit up for Buffalo this year as he'll go back to college to play in his sophomore year. Was it something more than that? (i.e. Jack Eichel situation?) And the passing of NY Ranger great, Rod Gilbert. (1:15:34) Another major competitor in men's tennis will not participate in a major tournament as Rafael Nadal will sit out with a foot injury. Does this make the road easier for Novak Djokovic to win the historic Grand Slam in a calendar year? Will there be an asterisk next to it if he does win? (1:18:04) Manny Pacquiao surprisingly loses to an unknown fighter for the welterweight title. Is this the end for legendary boxer? (1:20:59) Of course, to close the pod, I have my Hero and Zero of the Week. Your boy is back at it! Another action packed, fast paced journey through the sports landscape as I share my thoughts, analysis and opinions as Episode #208 is fresh off the presses. On deck: (5:17) The collapse of the NY Mets as they not only fall out of first place for the first time in three months, but fall to third place in the division in a 48 hour span. I'll recap the disgrace of a road trip with a sweep in Philadelphia and should us Met fans hold out any hope? Is this season, which is going down the drain, relatively over in August? I'll take a trip throughout the sport with what's happening on the diamond and catch you all up on the pennant races to date. (36:49) The Association (a.k.a. The NBA) was wheeling and dealing over the past week. Some controversy regarding some sign and trades (i.e. Lonzo Ball & Kyle Lowry) regarding alleged tampering prior to the opening of free agency. Who were the big winners of the past week? I'll cover all of the major tranactions, including the Lakers re-tool and reload as they look to get back to winning another championship. (51:24) The NFL had a very good week with the preseason underway for the first time in two years. A couple of major signings, including Bills QB, Josh Allen's $258 million dollar contract. What does this mean for his fellow draft classmates Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson? Contracts are the theme off the field when it comes to the current status of Steeler OLB T.J. Watt, Dolphins CB Xavien Howard, Justin Houston choosing Baltimore over Pittsburgh, to name a few. I'll also share my thoughts about the historic Hall of Fame ceremonies over the weekend to induct the 2020 & 2021 honorees into Canton. The life and legacy of former Florida State football coach, Bobby Bowden, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 91. Plus, the end of the Big 12 in college football as Oklahoma and Texas will move over to the SEC in 2025. (1:06:44) The Olympics have finally come to a close. Why were the ratings more than 50% lower than the past summer games of yesteryear? I'll take a look at the top stories of the past week and look ahead to the Winter Games which will take place less than six months from now in Beijing, China. (1:11:46) The ongoing saga between Sabres F Jack Eichel and management in regards to surgery that needs to be required on his neck with FIVE YEARS left on his deal. How long will this tug of war last? Will the Sabres trade their top player? Will he stay in Buffalo? Is surgery on the table anytime soon? A fascinating story developing with one of the league's top players. Also, a couple of key defensemen re-sign with their clubs. (1:20:44) There was a dominant victory in the heavyweight division on Saturday night in the UFC. Is Cyril Gane one to look out for in the weeks and months to come? (1:22:48) One of the world's most popular athletes in the world, soccer legend Lionel Messi, leaves Barcelona to reportedly sign with PSG. So I'll have a word on that. (1:25:10) To close, I have my Hero and Zero of the Week. The early dog days of August are here and so is the latest episode #207 as I cover all that's happening in the world of sports! On deck: (5:15) The wild, crazy, fast and furious of the MLB trade deadline with tons of wheeling and dealing that we haven't seen on this level. I'll assess all of the big deals (Max Scherzer/Trea Turner, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, etc.) and the impact that they'll have in the pennant race. Are the Yankees primed for a run to the postseason? Also, a little state of the Mets union that has me a little worried as we're closing in on the final two months of the regular season. (40:26) The NBA offseason has begun as I'll recap the little hype that the NBA draft produced this year, but I'll dive head first into the Lakers monster trade for Russell Westbrook. Why I think it could be more harm than good? Would you risk signing Kawhi Leonard if you're an NBA owner? And some of the other top headlines that are coming out (the Ben Simmons trade saga, anyone?) (54:49) The NHL is off and running with free agency in their own right as you have players on the move (i.e. Marc Andre Fleury, Brandan Saad) and players staying put (Gabriel Landeskog and Brayden Point) Also, a longtime Bruin goes back home (David Krejci). (1:00:25) I'm not ready for football just yet, but there's quite a bit to get into whether it's Xavien Howard's contract fallout in Miami, Aaron Rodgers's surprise return to training camp and the injury to Carson Wentz in Indianapolis which will interrupt their Super Bowl aspirations with a sprinkle of signings in Baltimore and Cleveland. Why are Madden 22 ratings part of the discussion in sports? (1:09:10) The Olympics march on to its second full week, but the spotlight on Simone Biles withdrawing from both team and individual competition amid reports about mental health? Although she is coming back to compete in the beam final, how this story became the most talked about in the world? And why the criticism in some circles is downright wrong? Plus, the latest with what's going on in Tokyo. (1:14:50) Lastly, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Another month is almost in the books, but the latest episode #206 is already in the books as I escort you through the sports universe with all that it has to offer. On deck: (6:08) Baseball is the last sport standing as we've hit the Sports Dead Zone Pt. 2, with lots of rumors milling around with the Trade Deadline set for Saturday at 4pm. The Rays have fired the first salvo bringing in a bat (Nelson Cruz) as well as, trading P Rich Hill to the Mets. The Padres made a move for All-Star, Adam Frazier to secure their infield. I discuss other big time players that can be on the move (Trevor Story, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Max Scherzer, to name a few) and my take on the Yankees as they should sell, including stars, Gary Sanchez, Gleyber Torres and yes, Aaron Judge with my state of the Bombers this late in the season. I'll explain why. There are some key players coming back (White Sox OF, Eloy Jimenez) and some on the IL (Dodgers OF, Mookie Betts) There's also a new name for one of baseball's oldest teams. I'll update all of the latest pennant races with not too much drama in the AL & NL as of today. (34:08) The Bucks win their first title in 50 years on the shoulders and back of Giannis Antetokoumpo. How does his epic performance rank all time in close out games? Also, the flipside of the Suns setting as they weren't able to secure two more wins after being up 2-0 in the series. Does this affect Chris Paul's legacy? How about Devin Booker? Deandre Ayton? Will they be back in the Finals next year? I'll share who'll be the potential top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft may be. (52:40) The Kraken have completed their draft and filled out a roster for their inaugural season in 2021-22. Were there any surprises as to who wasn't picked by the NHL's newest team? I'll take a look at who was chosen at the top of the NHL Draft this past weekend with a theme of some family lineage tying into two of the teams that are impacted. Also, a huge singing in Colorado with their top defenseman, Cale Makar. Will this be the first domino to fall in order to bring back some of their own free agents (i.e. Gabriel Landeskog & Brandan Saad)? And the league did the Islanders ZERO favors when it comes to the schedule for this upcoming year. You won't want to miss that! (1:05:29) NFL news and notes as training camps open throughout the league including, embattled Texan QB, Deshaun Watson on the trading block? Will some team take the plunge despite the baggage? An update on the Aaron Rodgers saga in Green Bay. A couple of signings in San Francisco and Pittsburgh. A disgruntled pass rusher in Arizona. A tough loss for the Rams with a key offensive player going down for the season. And a memo that spread throughout the league regarding COVID outbreaks within a team and how forfeits of games and loss of paychecks will take place because of players that are unvaccinated. Even a coach received a pink slip for refusing to get the vaccine. I'll be sure to dissect all of that. (1:18:18) A brief update on the Summer Olympics. The USA Men's basketball team have lost their first game since 2004. Is this a sign of bad things to come? And a 13 year old became the second youngest to win a gold...in SKATEBOARDING! (1:21:04) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Play Episode Listen Later Jul 19, 2021 78:13

Just when you think the sports world will start to slow down a bit, it always delivers another level of excitement. Here to bring you up to speed on all that's happening, Episode #205 promises to heat up your speakers and earbuds. On deck: (6:00) The Sports Dead Zone, Pt. 2 hasn't arrived during this different sports year as the NBA is set to crown a champion tomorrow night possibly with the Milwaukee Bucks, flexing their experience, toughness and grit that they've accumulated over the past two plus postseasons and exhibited in Games 4 & 5 of the Finals. I'll discuss the potential legacy games for both Giannis Antetekoumpo & Chris Paul as Game 6 looms. Do the Suns keep their season alive and push the series to a deciding Game 7? In other news, there is a new coach in Washington with a familiar name, the play in tournament will be back in 2021-22 and Kawhi Leonard's secretive diagnosis has been revealed. (29:16) MLB has one of the most bizarre weeks in recent memory. From Pete Alonso's arrogance at the Home Run Derby, to a ho-hum All-Star Game, the Yankees, including Aaron Judge coming down with COVID, a wild weekend in Pittsburgh for the Mets with two major injuries to dissect, a shooting outside of Nationals Park and the Brewers take back the NL Central (well, sort of). I'll go through the divisions as we're just 12 days from the Trade Deadline. (47:12) Collin Morikawa wins his second major tournament in 10 months by coming from behind to beat Louis Oosthuizen and Jordan Spieth to win the British Open at Sandwich Bay. At 24, how bright is his future? Also, how did the rest of the field fair? (i.e. Bryson Dechambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, etc.) (57:15) I have to apologize to #1 women's tennis player and Wimbledon winner Ash Barty. (58:12) The newest team in the NHL, the Seattle Kraken will have two drafts to look forward to this week as they'll build their roster through the Expansion Draft (Wednesday) and the Entry Draft (Friday & Saturday). Will they become a similar version to the Vegas Golden Knights of four years ago? Plus, a big trade for Edmonton that could pay dividends to a young Connor McDavid and their franchise next year. (1:04:57) No players have opted out (as of yet) of the upcoming season in the NFL as training camps open next week. And let's add another story to the already legendary status of a one Thomas Edward Brady! (1:07:32) The Olympics open up on Friday in the midst of COVID as it's affecting Tokyo. Will anyone watch? Does anyone care? (1:12:45) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week. NBA Finals. A Stanley Cup Finals recap. MLB at the halfway point. Novak Djokovic's attempt at immortality. A preview of The British Open. Conor McGregor's latest setback. And a rule that MUST be changed in soccer, especially when it comes to winning a championship. Where else are you going to find all of that on one podcast? Right here, so please indulge me as I entertain you as Episode #203 is ready to set your speakers or earbuds on fire. On deck: (5:54) The NBA Finals haven't really been anything to write home about to date, but the Bucks have gotten back into the series as a pivotal Game 4 looms. What can the Suns do to stop the Giannis freight train? Will there be a Khris Middleton sighting? This is familiar territory for the Bucks as they do their best to dig outof another 0-2 hole. Who else from the Suns can step up and be the guy, besides Chris Paul and Devin Booker? There was also a new coaching hire as Jamahl Mosely is the top dog in Orlando. (23:46) The Tampa Bay Lightning have won back to back Stanley Cups. The big question is? Can they go for a three-peat which hasn't been witnessed in the league in almost 40 years? I'll have the answer to that as I put the NHL playoffs to rest. (33:52) I'll go through what may be the pretenders and contenders in MLB. There isn't much to discuss here as it's been pretty much status quo for the past few weeks. You'll have to listen to get a full grasp of what I'm saying. I'll also discuss Jacob deGrom's decision to not participate in the All-Star Game. The actual game itself. And how the Mets were able to get one of the top pitchers in the country via the MLB Draft last night. (51:50) Novak Djokovic's quest for immortality as he has completed 3/4 of the calendar Grand Slam, and in the process, has tied Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for the most Grand Slam victories by a men's player in history. What will the pressure be like for Joker as we approach the US Open next month? (57:49) I'll preview the British Open which begins on Thursday. Will the weather/elements be a factor? (That's usually the case) Who may we see at the top of the leaderboard when all is said and done? (1:04:06) The Conor McGregor-Dustin Poirier bout did not go as planned as Poirier wins by TKO at the fifth minute of the first round due to a cracked tibia as McGregor tried to plant his left foot. Is this the beginning of the end for McGregor? (1:11:21) Italy wins the Euro Cup over England on penalty kicks. PENALTY KICKS?! Are you effing kidding me? Soccer may not be my forte, but something has to give as these championship matches CANNOT come down to this. I have a solution that'll upset the soccer fan, but will make sense for a better and dramatic product. (1:17:47) And, of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week! With another holiday behind us, let's look ahead to another jam packed, fast paced escape through the sports universe as Episode 201 is ready for takeoff. On deck: (5:04) The NBA Finals are set as the Milwaukee Bucks will face the Phoenix Suns starting Tuesday. I'll detail Chris Paul's run to his first ever Finals appearance, his legacy to date. The health status and uncertainty of Giannis Antetekoumpo. The rise of Khris Middleton's play, Jrue Holiday's contribution. Will the viewing public get into this series? And other storylines heading into this unique championship round. (31:58) The Tampa Bay Lightning are set to reclaim the Cup for a second straight year. Can they produce the first sweep in a Stanley Cup Final in 23 years? Will goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy come up with another series clinching shutout? Is the mayor of Tampa right, wrong or crazy for suggesting that Tampa lose so that they can win Game 5 at home? (43:59) The Dodgers look to have their swagger back as they're one of the hottest teams in baseball, but one of their teammates is in hot water as Trevor Bauer has been put on leave by MLB in light of an alleged sexual assault with a woman two months ago. Did the Dodgers handle this properly? What will MLB do throughout this process? And why this story doesn't receive the attention that the NFL & NBA would if it happened in either of their leagues? Also, what has happened to the Yankees? I'll dissect their week from hell as they lost a brutal game at home when they once led 7-0, the players only meeting, owner Hal Steinbrenner chiming in on their first half futility, Gerrit Cole's lost grip? Aroldis Chapman's ineptitude, Gleyber Torres regression, their rotation, lack of athleticism, even the two admission doubleheaders (which isn't the Yankees fault) A commentary that you won't want to miss. I'll peruse through both the AL & NL as we're a week away from the All-Star Break. (1:14:42) Wimbledon is in its second week and it's been a bit of a bore. The big story is who can stop Novak Djokovic as he looks to grab his third Grand Slam tournament of the calendar year? Is Roger Federer waiting in the wings? What about the women's side of the bracket? (1:21:20) A couple of quick notes in the NFL (i.e. Training Camp upcoming, Cowboys back on Hard Knocks and former wideout Demaryius Thomas's retirement.) Another milestone for the podcast as Episode #200 is coming at you correct, direct and in full effect on all of the latest and greatest in the world of sports. On deck: (6:45) The lead up and thrill of a Game 7, but in a loss, the pain and suffering that comes with it. (9:22) Which brings me to the NY Islanders, who fell two goals short of making it to their first Stanley Cup Finals in 37 years. I'll recap their final week in the postseason, what to expect this offseason, what they need to get over the hump and a BOLD prediction for next year's team that you won't want to miss. I'll also get into the Montreal Canadiens unexpected run to a Cup Final and predict who'll hoist Lord Stanley as champions of the NHL. There's also a new coach for the newly minted Seattle Kraken as I'll share my thoughts on that. (31:31) Future Hall of Famer and Suns point guard, Chris Paul is one win away from reaching his first ever NBA Finals, but there may be something brewing with the Clippers as I have a gut that they have the Suns right where they want ‘em. I'll deep dive as to the possibility of a Clipper Comeback that would be the cataclysmic event this woe be gone franchise needs to get themselves into the Finals. By chance, if the Clippers happen to push this series to a 7th game, what does this say about current coach, Ty Lue? What about Doc Rivers and his tenure as Clips coach? The Bucks have control of their series with the Hawks, but will they put the hammer down on a feisty Atlanta team that'll come into Game 4 hurting as Trae Young is hobbled with an ankle injury? I'll also get into the various coaching vacancies filled in Indiana, Boston, Dallas and Portland with some news on Luka Doncic's alleged relationship with the Mavericks front office and Kristaps Porzingis. Does Damian Lillard want out of Portland now that Chauncey Billups is the head coach? Some interesting developments going on and I have it all covered. (57:40) Week one of the crackdown with foreign substances in MLB is in the books. At the tail end of it, there was an ejection with the Mariners reliever, Hector Santiago being tossed for having resin in his glove. Was an ejection warranted? Should this have happened since the substance was legal? I'll have that, the Yankees floundering, the Mets big week, the Giants could put some distance between them and the Dodgers and a top heavy NL & AL as we approach the halfway point of the regular season. (1:13:19) A shocker at Wimbledon as one of the top men's players is ousted at the All England Club. Which leads to the bigger question. Is Novak Djokovic's quest to winning the third leg of the calendar Grand Slam a formality? Also, who'll come out victorious on the women's side? I'll have a preview. (1:20:36) A couple of notes regarding two offensive lineman in the NFL with one player going (David DeCastro released by the Steelers) and one player coming (Morgan Moses signs with the Jets). I'll also have the ascension of the Clippers (making their first conference final trip), Hawks (the confidence of Trey Young) and Bucks. Also, what is the best possible NBA Finals matchup? There's been a lot of off the court stuff regarding coaches (NO, WSH & DAL), division with the Mavericks? Suns GM 1 win vs. the Clippers. The Celtics coaching prospects and the trade that sent Kemba Walker to OKC for an old friend. (46:05) The quest for the Stanley Cup Finals is getting closer. I'll review both the Islanders-Lightning and Canadiens-Golden Knights series and what are the chances of the Islanders pulling off the upset of the defending Cup champs? (1:00:38) The crackdown begins in the MLB in regards to pitchers being checked for doctoring baseballs. Will the umpires strictly enforce it? Plus, my thoughts on what baseball should do to change a couple of tweaks in 2020 now that we're almost back to normal throughout the nation! (1:16:04) A ruling came down that the US Supreme Court has unanimously decided that student/athletes can be compensated monetarily in Division 1 football and basketball. When will this commence? What will this mean for both sports outside of the field or court? (1:19:53) A couple of notes from the NFL (i.e. Justin Fields backup plan in CHI, Derek Carr potentially quitting if traded from LV and Cole Beasley's choice to not get vaccinated.) (1:22:22) Jon Rahm comes from behind to win his first ever major golf tournament at the US Open over the weekend. I'll recap that. I'll also preview the Canadiens-Golden Knights series as it commences later this evening (Monday 6/14) (26:15) Not a whole lot of drama in the NBA Playoffs (unless you're the Brooklyn Nets), but first, the Suns punched their ticket to the Western Conference Finals as they sweep the MVP of the league (Nikola Jokic) and the disappointing Nuggets. I'll discuss their meteoric rise, Chris Paul's resurgence, as well as, Donovan Mitchell's Jazz a couple of wins away from meeting CP3. Is Mitchell the greatest Jazz player ever? EVER?! Is it time to panic if you're Steve Nash and the Nets? Will there be a James Harden sighting? Will Kyrie Irving return? Can Kevin Durant will his team to the next round? Also, the Sixers are in cruise control, a belated mention on the retirement of Duke's Coach K and some rumors as to a candidate for the next coaching job of the Celtics. (50:00) The MLB could be ready for some pitchers getting warned and ejected as the crackdown of pitchers using foreign substances may take place this week. I'll get into Gerrit Cole's admission (or lack thereof) on whether he uses something to doctor the ball. Pete Alonso's factual theory of baseballs being juiced for players in their free agent walk year. Jacob deGrom's brilliance on display, yet again! The Rays stay hot, the Angels in the AL West mix? The Brewers and Cubs trending north, while the Cards head south. The Giants standing pat in a crowded NL West bunch with the rival Padres and Dodgers. (1:05:27) Some NFL news comes down the pike as to Deshaun Watson telling a former teammate where he wants to play, Jordan Love getting some major reps with Aaron Rodgers skipping mandatory OTA's, former NY Giants coach, Jim Fassel passes away and the College Football Playoff devising a plan to extend the format to 12 teams? I have a different plan altogether. (1:11:02) Novak Djokovic wins the French Open and is halfway to a calendar Grand Slam? Can he do it? Is he already the GOAT? (1:19:42) On the heels of winning the PGA, Phil Mickelson will ride the momentum to the US Open to shoot for that elusive championship. I'll preview who may be at the top of the leaderboard and the juicy storyline of the Bryson DeChambeau-Brooks Koepka rivalry. (1:24:52) Some thoughts on the Denmark soccer player, Christian Eriksen, who collapsed during a Euro 2020 game this past week. (1:26:02) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week. No June swoon as the sports world continues to heat up with summer inching closer. I'll have all of the latest analysis and hot takes as Episode #197 is ready for consumption. On deck: (5:03) The NBA is onto the second round, but the Clippers saved face as they come back and secure a home win to move on to play the Jazz. Could this be what the Clippers needed? What about the disappearing act of Mavericks forward, Kristaps Porzingis? The Knicks feel good season goes up in flames. LeBron James's lack of sportsmanship. The Celtics face an overhaul? Who will be their next head coach? I'll have some predictions out West in the Conference Semifinals. (39:37) The NHL's top story of the postseason has been the remarkable 180 of the Montreal Canadiens. From the brink of extinction to the brink of the Cup semifinals, I'll unpack the week that was and the rest of the second round playoff series that's making news throughout the league. Plus, who are the two best teams in the league at the moment? And the makings of a sexy Stanley Cup Final matchup? (55:10) MLB has a serious issue on their hands. Pitchers are about to be called out for using foreign substances to gain an advantage for ‘spin rate' throughout the league. Will this crackdown be strict? Lenient? The brilliance of Jacob deGrom and can the Yankees jump start their lineup? (1:12:54) Julio Jones gets traded from Atlanta to Tennessee to add another layer to an already stacked conference. (1:16:19) The French Open has come undone with injuries, player withdrawals, etc. Is there a silver lining that can save the tournament? (1:21:13) A major player in golf contracts COVID while having a huge lead in a tournament over the weekend. The Bryson DeChambeau-Brooks Koepka rivalry is one to keep an eye on. (1:23:52) The Belmont Stakes puts an end to a rather forgettable five weeks in horse racing. (1:25:36) Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather. Is this actually a topic of discussion? (1:26:08) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week! On this Memorial Day as we commemorate the soldiers who fought, served and died for our country, I deliver a jam packed, sports podcast party for you all as Episode #196 is ready for your earbuds or speakers. On deck: (5:51) Is it me or is it strange to see full houses in arenas throughout the NBA and NHL? What about the MLB, especially in the New York area? As we await word on the restrictions lifted for that sport. With that said… (10:20) …The fan behavior in the NBA the past week has been atrocious in New York, Philadelphia & Boston. I'll detail the buffoonery there. A dud of a first round in the NBA except for the two LA teams. Are the Lakers in trouble without Anthony Davis? Can the Clippers be trusted after evening the series with Dallas? Does Denver respond after the coach calls out his team for playing soft? The Knicks have been a major disappointment so far. The toughness of Chris Paul and the Suns and much more as the first round of the playoffs come to a close. (34:45) If there was ever a must win, not for a team or organization, but for the city of Toronto, tonight is it! I'll discuss what tonight's Game 7 could mean, either way, for the playoff embattled Maple Leafs. Has the Penguins championship window closed? Does Edmonton need a wholesale change to their roster? The Avalanche look mighty strong, but is there a possible suspension on the horizon for Vegas winger, Ryan Reaves in last night's loss at Colorado. (A NINE MINUTE POWER PLAY?) Thanks to some light shed by an old friend of the podcast (Headstyle from Minnesota. Episode #120) I'll touch on why Reaves shouldn't be suspended and how sports as a whole has changed and evolved over the years? (57:21) MLB's first point check of the season has the Tampa Bay Rays playing better than anyone in baseball at the moment. I'll go through the contenders and pretenders in baseball, with a look at the latest Yankee woes. The Mets ‘cushion' in the NL East despite tons of postponements. Can the Giants stay in the division race with the Dodgers & Padres? And the competitive AL East! Plus, some thoughts about Lou Gehrig Day on June 2nd, the wacky Javier Baez play in Pittsburgh and my over/unders to date. (1:17:34) Julio Jones wants out of Atlanta. Is Seattle his next stop? I'll explain why that's not a marriage made in football heaven. (1:20:45) The French Open is underway at Roland Garros. Why are Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on the same side of the bracket? Also, Naomi Osaka will not partake in any media obligations throughout the tournament citing mental health issues. NOTE: At the completion of editing this podcast, Osaka withdrew from the tournament as she thought it was best not to be a distraction and to take time away from the court! (1:26:36) A familiar face wins the Indianapolis 500 as Helio Castroneves wins his record tying fourth race in a close finish. (1:29:06) An update and quote on the status and recovery of Tiger Woods. If spring in your neck of the woods is feeling more like summer these days, then the sports world is already scorching as if it's July & August as another fast paced, action packed podcast is officially online. Episode #195 packs a lot of heat. On deck: (5:25) Phil Mickelson does the unthinkable by winning his first major in eight years to become the oldest player to win a major tournament. Were the elements at Kiawah Island to blame for some bad play by golf's top players? What kind of momentum will Lefty have going into the US Open? The one title that's missing from his mantle. And what happened with the crowd and security at the 18th hole during the final round? (22:14) The NBA completed its first weekend of playoff games. I'll look back on the play-in tournament. Why it's time to shelve it? Now the league is flirting with a mid-season tournament? You know I have much to say about those two topics. I'll recap the games from Saturday & Sunday, with a thought on the Lakers loss in Phoenix and Memphis's early upset of Utah. (41:00) The NHL is about to close their opening round series, while Colorado and Boston await the next round. Will the Capitals regroup this offseason? Or is it time to disband a team led by all time great, Alexander Ovechkin? Same for the Penguins, if they don't make it out of this round vs. the Islanders? The Oilers falling flat on their faces thus far. The Maple Leafs rebound after losing their captain. Will Nashville extend Carolina to the limit? Many questions abound as things continue to heat up on the ice. (55:09) Two more no-hitters in the MLB this past week. Why has there been SIX of them before Memorial Day? I have an interesting take as to what's going on as baseball looks to find their way through this lackluster start. Plus, the Padres, Dodgers and Yankees are hot, with the Bombers winning eight consecutive series. Mike Trout's injury, Pujols delivers for the other LA team, White Sox manager Tony La Russa mishandling of Yermin Mercedes and a thought on the late Pirate, Rennie Stennett, with an obscure record that must be mentioned. (1:13:07) I also make a brief mention of an event that's taking place this weekend, which was one that I remembered as a boy that kicked off the unofficial beginning of summer: The Indianapolis 500. The sports season starts to intensify and I'll make sure it's all covered as Episode 194 is ready for consumption. On deck: (5:00) The NBA playoffs are just about here, but first, the play-in tournament that'll determine who'll make it into the top-8 seeds in each conference. I'll take a look at the four games (CHA-IND, WSH-BOS, MEM-SA, GS-LAL) and who'll move forward to join the other six in the East & West. I'll have all of the juicy storylines from the Sixers ‘process', the Nets ‘win now' moment. Are the Clippers mentally and spiritually ready to push their game to the next level? Do you believe in the Jazz & Suns, with lots more playoff talk to dissect. I'll get into Alex Rodriguez teaming up to purchase the T'Wolves. The Hall of Fame Ceremony with induction to Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and the late, Kobe Bryant. As well as, next years class highlighted by Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Ben Wallace and Chris Webber. Let the debate begin. Is C-Webb a Hall of Famer? I'll tell you why he isn't! (40:00) The Stanley Cup Playoffs have begun. The storylines aren't aplenty as they are in the NBA, but with the Penguins losing Game 1 in OT yesterday, is their psyche taking a huge hit for their recent playoff failures? Will the Lightning-Panthers series be as advertised? After one game, it sure is. I'll preview the other series that haven't gotten underway, border restrictions for the Canadian team that makes it to the Cup Semifinals and more housecleaning at Madison Square Garden as David Quinn was dismissed as coach. Was it fair? (55:18) Has the first quarter of the MLB season been lackluster? I'll dive into the latest headlines, including, the Jarred Kelenic era opening in Seattle over the weekend. (1:05:30) I'll share my thoughts on the NFL schedule. Brady vs. the Patriots on October 3rd. Who has the hardest schedule in the league? Some of the Sunday night/Monday night docket and Tim Tebow is NOT to blame for him being signed to play TE in Jacksonville. You won't want to miss that. (1:21:34) Medina Spirit doesn't get the job done as he finishes third in the Preakness. Will there be any buzz at the Belmont Stakes in three weeks? Probably not, but I have two instances where that could change. (1:24:30) I'll preview the second golf major of the year as the PGA is on the horizon. Who will be the one player I'll keep an eye on in a stacked field? Will Brooks Koepka regain his PGA winning ways? Also, my prediction as to who will win? (1:28:01) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week! Kicking up the sports talk intensity another notch as there's LOT to dive into as Episode 193 is served! On deck: (6:15) Is this the end for future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols? I'll dissect the dominant first baseman's career and will he latch onto another team? Also, have no-hitters become the norm? I have a theory that may explain why pitchers are besting hitters just six weeks into the season. Plus, the disastrous Dodgers and a topsy turvy week for the Mets (fired hitting coaches, Jacob deGrom's injury and rats? Or raccoons?) (30:40) The NBA heads into the final week of the regular season. Could it be that both the Lakers and Celtics are preparing to be in the play-in tournament? With a hobbled LeBron James, why I think the Lakers may not be long for the postseason? And the Celtics woes may have them OUT of the postseason before it really gets started. What about Coach Brad Stevens? Is he on the hot seat? I'll share some thoughts on that, as well as, what to make of Russell Westbrook's tying Oscar Robertson's all time triple double record? Is it noteworthy? Or a complete afterthought? (52:31) The NHL season has completed. Well, sort of. I'll get into the latest as the league gets set for another postseason run to the Stanley Cup. is this the year for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their Cup starved fans? And the aftermath at the Garden where the Rangers not only release their VP of Hockey Operations and GM, but receive a hefty fine in the process and the players have to stick up for one another because of Capitals winger, Tom Wilson's physical play and subsequent fight filled rematch two nights later. (1:10:00) The NFL schedule will be released on Wednesday. I'll predict who'll play the Buccaneers on the Opening Thursday night of the new year AND when the highly anticipated meeting of Brady vs. Belichick in Foxborough this fall will take place? I'll have the latest on the Aaron Rodgers saga in Green Bay (as he takes a page out of the NBA Player Empowerment Handbook) (1:19:16) The Preakness and Horse Racing takes a tremendous hit as Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, tests positive for an anti-inflammatory steroid. Will he be stripped of his victory? If not, what does this mean for the second leg of the Triple Crown come Saturday? Lots to unpack here as the details become dirty by the day. Kicking off the fifth month of 2021 (already? Geez!) as I satiate your sports appetite on all that's happening as Episode 192 is served. On deck: (5:55) All of the hype, predictions and draft fatigue of the NFL is finally behind us, well, not just quite yet, as I delve into all that happened over the three day event in Cleveland. Overshadowing that is the news of Aaron Rodgers wanting out of Green Bay. Is this something that we need to watch out for on a day in-day out basis? I have to trash the opening minutes of the Draft coverage as there were a few things I did not like, to say the least. I share my thoughts on why did Denver pass on a QB in the first round? Did Chicago learn its lesson from a few years back in drafting Mitchell Trubisky to move up and select Justin Fields? Is Trey Lance the answer in San Francisco? What about Mac Jones in New England? Najee Harris? Rashod Bateman in Baltimore? I'll have it all covered, including, is Richard Sherman and a reunion with the Seahawks forthcoming? (38:47) The Philadelphia Phillies had a week to remember! Or forget? I'll chronicle the past five days for the ballclub. The potential Royal Rumble of the NL East in 2021. The Dodgers are flailing and the Yankees are rebounding? And a familiar foe visits the Bronx this week in what should be a raucous setting. (50:00) LeBron James is back in the lineup, but the Lakers are sliding quickly in the West. He has a few words about the play-in tournament as his team hovers near the seven seed in the conference. I have a few things to say about that as well. Are the Bucks making a push for the two seed in the East? A possible one seed? I'll recap the latest playoff scenarios as we're two weeks away from the seasons conclusion. (1:02:45) The NHL joins forces with TNT as they did with ESPN a couple of weeks prior. What does this mean for visibility throughout the country? Also, the possible border issue between the US and Canada during the postseason? I have the easy fix. Are the Penguins peaking at the right time as they attempt to make one last run for Lord's Stanley Cup? The Maple Leafs expectations for a long awaited Cup run this spring. And a new team is officially introduced to the NHL landscape as the Kraken of Seattle are in the fold. (1:13:45) A Kentucky Derby recap as Medina Spirit wins the Run for the Roses by a half length. Does this bode well for a second victory at the Preakness in less than two weeks? (1:19:14) Last but not least, my Hero and Zero of the Week. I close out April in grand fashion as I take you through the sports universe with all that it has to offer as Episode #191 is ready for consumption. On deck: (5:57) I jumpstart the pod with news and notes throughout the NBA. Break up the Knicks!!! I'll get into their ascendance in the East, should Julius Randle be in consideration for the MVP? A possible second round matchup vs. Brooklyn? Speaking of the Nets, Kevin Durant made his return yesterday as they sit atop the Eastern Conference with three weeks to go in the regular season. Will they hold serve? I'll also discuss the struggling Lakers as we await on LeBron James's arrival back into the lineup. (34:04) I'll take a trip around the ice as the hunt for the NHL postseason is heating up. I'll check in on the Islanders recent trip up against Washington and the Central Division remains tight as Carolina, Florida and Tampa Bay battle for first place. (43:09) The Padres-Dodgers series provided more thrills than the first series in San Diego the week before. I'll breakdown how payback was issued by the Pads, the managing of Dave Roberts, plus other news throughout the MLB, including, Gerrit Cole vs Shane Bieber, the brilliance of Jacob deGrom and the union & league are speaking on a new CBA? (57:55) The NFL Draft is days away. I'll dissect what looks like a predictable start for the first few picks and who the Steelers should draft with their selection in the first round? CORRECTION: Aaron Rodgers was part of the 2005 Draft, not 2015 as I mentioned! Tom Brady thinks the quality of football could take a hit this fall? (1:05:39) An increase in the playoff format for college football could be forthcoming? I'll share my take on what the NCAA should do. (1:07:36) I'll preview the favorites of the Kentucky Derby as the first leg of horse racing's Triple Crown is back where it belongs. Will there be a huge turnout, considering COVID protocols and restrictions? (1:11:01) MMA's Kamaru Usman continues his record setting streak in the welterweight division as he's victorious yet again vs Jorge Masvidal. (1:13:26) Last, but not least, my Hero and Zero of the Week. Dodgers Rising/Yankees Falling, Nets Title Chances Without KD? How Minneapolis Verdict Could Affect Sports World? NHL's Marleau's Mega Milestone! Julian Edelman's Next Stop: Canton?

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 19, 2021 80:44

I've got lots to get off of my chest as I take you through the sports universe as Episode 190 is ready for consumption. On deck: (5:24) The polar opposites of what we've seen so far from the LA Dodgers (13-3, best record in the majors) and the NY Yankees (5-10, worst record in the American League) I'll break down both teams to date and take a trip throughout the leagues and discuss AJ Hinch's return to Houston, Carlos Rodon's no-hitter, Shane Bieber's historic start and an injury update on Ronald Acuna, Jr. (30:08) The NBA concluded a very interesting week detailing Philadelphia overtaking the Brooklyn in the East. Analysis of the Nets title chances as players are consistently in and out of the lineup, the importance of Kevin Durant's health and his presence on the floor, Coach Steve Nash's and GM Sean Marks impact on the team while exhibiting some integrity to a veteran laden group. i'll get into the key loss for Denver as Jamal Murray is done for the season. The close call from Donovan Mitchell as they're still atop the West. Luka Doncic/Mark Cuban's comments regarding the play-in tournament. Are they wrong? Newly minted part owner of the Jazz, Dwyane Wade and how his influence and pedigree could help come the postseason? Steph Curry is the Warriors all-time scorer in team history, And the potential outcome in Minneapolis as the jury deliberation will begin in the Derek Chauvin case. What does this mean for the world of sports? For society? I have a message to the sports fan that they may not want to hear, but is dripping with truth. (56:21) The NHL will celebrate a moment that many never thought would happen. Sharks winger, Patrick Marleau will become the all time leader in games played at 1,768. I'll compare this to other players of the past generation to show how much of an achievement this is for the game and the league overall. Also, the Canucks have played their first game in over three weeks due to players contracting the coronavirus. Will they try to squeeze in their full schedule over the next month? And some big games in the Central and Eastern Division this week as first place is up for grabs. (1:05:24) Julian Edelman rides off into the sunset as he retires from the New England Patriots. Is the Pro Football Hall of Fame the next stop of his ‘football life'? Why I say it is NOT, as well as, is Justin Fields's stock slipping among the top QB's on the draft board as Round 1 of the NFL Draft is next Thursday? (1:15:46) Of course, I'll have my Hero and Zero of the Week. Matsuyama 'Master'ful! Run Support For Mets deGrom? HA! An NBA Budding Rivalry Out West? Kyrie On Leave AGAIN! NHL Wheeling & Dealing! Jets Send Darnold To Carolina For What In Return?

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 12, 2021 76:04

Taking you through the sports universe with fast-paced, non-stop, unapologetic opinions and analysis like no other as Episode 189 is primed and ready to be heard. On deck: (5:07) A rather ho-hum Masters golf tournament became historic as Hideki Matsuyama is the first Japanese man to win a major! I'll get into specifics on the weekend overall. Huge names not making the cut (i.e. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy to name a couple). Players coming out of the woodwork (i.e. Will Zalatoris and Marc Leishman) and others trying to make a run at the top of the leaderboard (i.e. Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth). Even Bryson DeChambeau wasn't a threat throughout the weekend as I recap all that went down in Augusta. (22:21) The MLB season is about 11 days old (seven if you're a Met fan like myself) and there's already a few things to gripe about. From the lack of run support AGAIN for ace Jacob deGrom, to the controversial opening day win with Michael Conforto sticking his elbow out for a walk off hit by pitch RBI, to why did they Mets play when it was raining while foiling Marcus Stroman's start. UGH! You know I have lots to say on this. Also, the Yankees pitching woes, the missed call at home plate which cost the Braves a possible win against the Phillies and an NCAA Division I women's softball player makes history. (38:32) The NBA is starting to heat up a little bit on the court as the Suns take care of the Jazz at home last week. Only to follow up with a tough loss against the Clippers the next night. The story there that's building is a budding rivalry as tensions flare and some comments were made by Clipper forward, Paul George. I'll get into that, as well as, an update on the return of Anthony Davis and LeBron James, Kyrie Irving is out of the lineup for personal reasons AGAIN and A-Rod to become a minority owner of the T-Wolves? (51:37) The trade deadline has come and gone in the NHL and the Eastern Conference has done most of the damage. The Islanders make a big trade to acquire two former New Jersey Devils, but the biggest trade may be the final piece in the puzzle for the team with the longest Stanley Cup drought north of the border. I'll delve into the deals that may impact the division races as we head into the homestretch of the regular season. (1:01:12) The Jets send Sam Darnold packing to Carolina. Why did they get so little in return? Why were they enamored with potential pick in BYU QB, Zack Wilson? Plus, the real reason why they jettisoned the former Jet QB. And the ongoing saga of Deshaun Watson as accusation pile up against him. Will he play this year? Is a suspension from the league looming? A thought as to why Watson wanted out of Houston? I'll have all of that… (1:10:15) …and my Hero and Zero of the Week! UCLA-Gonzaga Classic/Showdown With Baylor For Title, Intriguing NBA Playoff Scenarios, MLB Bails On ATL for ASG, NHL's Canucks & COVID, Sick Of NFL Pro Day Hype! Koepka Return/Masters Preview

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 5, 2021 86:11

Turning the calendar to April as the best sports month of the year arrives. I'll have it all covered as Episode 188 is firing on all cylinders. On deck: (5:25) Highlighting the instant classic between UCLA vs. Gonzaga in the semifinals. What this victory means as they set their sights on an undefeated season against the second ranked team in the nation? With a win, are Gonzaga considered an all-time great team? As great as this game was, it actually could've been just a touch better. I'll explain. (31:31) The NBA has a couple of developing playoff stories to keep an eye on. In the East, how the 4-8 seeds (in particular, 4-6) are imperative for avoiding Brooklyn or Philadelphia in the first round? Out West, why the Lakers positioned in the 4-5 or 6 seed means trouble for the Nuggets or Clippers? Also, the one thing that almost stopped the Jazz on their magical regular season to date? (45:51) Some storylines to highlight the first weekend of the MLB season, including the move by the league to remove the All-Star Game in Atlanta come July? Was it the right move? What about The Masters and the Atlanta Hawks? Will we see something similar in the days to come? (59:30) The Vancouver Canucks are now dealing with the fallout of COVID, north of the border for the first time this season. Will they regroup to make a push to the final seed in the Western Division? I'll also discuss the hotly contested Central and Eastern Divisions as the competition is stiff as to who'll come out on top once the playoffs begin. (1:07:51) Why all of the hype and oversaturated news coming out of these pro days as the NFL is three and a half weeks away from the Draft? I'll assess this nonsense and why are fans caught up in this? And the WFT (Washington Football Team) will keep their current title for the team? REALLY? (1:14:43) The tradition unlike any other is back. The Masters starts on Thursday. I'll have a preview and prediction as to who'll win. Plus, Brooks Koepka may make the first tee after knee surgery just a few weeks ago? (1:20:25) Not to mention, my Hero and Zero of the Week. While I'm at it, I ALWAYS make sure to deliver everything in the world of sports with lots of passion, entertainment and excitement as Episode 187 is ready for action! On deck: (5:36) We're down to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Men's Tournament. I'll recap what took place over the weekend with an eye on who may move on to the Final Four! How does this tournament compare to years' past? And a couple of new coaching hires in the sport have made some news. (30:59) The MLB season is on the horizon! I'll go through all of the divisions, my six over/under win total predictions, as well as, who'll play in the Fall Classic and win! Plus, a preview of my beloved Mets! What's the teams biggest weakness? Can they contend in the NL East? (1:04:00) The NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone, but two free agents made the biggest noise as LaMarcus Aldridge goes to Brooklyn and Andre Drummond signs with the Lakers. Are they on a collision course to meet in the Finals? (1:13:42) The NFL Draft is a month from today and some big trade news at the top of the draft took place. The Dolphins were wheeling and dealing with the 49ers and Eagles as they have plenty of draft capital in the first three rounds of the draft. How will the top six picks play out? Will the Jets draft a QB? What about the Niners? Also, the NFL will expand their regular season schedule to 17 games. Why I DESPISE the move? And news on Steelers WR Chase Claypool's parking lot scuffle two weeks ago? Will there be repercussions? (1:31:17) NHL referee Tim Peel gets his ‘early retirement' papers after his assessment of a penalty was picked up on his microphone. Did the NHL do the right thing by terminating him for life? (1:34:53) Francis Ngannou is your new MMA heavyweight champion. Is a bout with famed fighter, Jon Jones, up next? (1:36:10) Oscar de la Hoya is attempting to make a comeback? Seriously? Spring has arrived! The weather (in the Northeast) has been gorgeous as we're off to a good start. Let me do the same as there is lots to cover in the world of sports. Episode #186 is ready for your earbuds or speakers. On deck: (4:41) The first three days of March Madness has been just that! A different year is affecting the ‘feel' of the tournament to date, including major upsets by Loyola Chicago and Oral Roberts. Can the lower seeds continue to hang and beat the top seeds in the bracket? The impact of the sport as it's taking shape earlier than normal. I'll also have a postmortem on my beloved Georgetown Hoyas, who lost to Colorado on Saturday as they're out of contention. (34:34) How will the West shape up after the Lakers lose LeBron James to a high ankle sprain indefinitely? The Celtics team meeting as there's ‘still time left'. Coach Brad Stevens squashing rumors he's returning back to coach in college. LaMelo Ball's injury may force him out for the rest of the year. Who's next to become a possible Rookie of the Year? (45:49) The Patriots are the free agent winners of March as they've made significant moves to bolster their roster. I'll get into that, as well as, DeSean Jackson's impact for the Rams (with a ginormous IF!) An overhaul in the desert for the Cardinals. Trent Williams record breaking payday. JuJu Smith-Schuster's loyalty in Pittsburgh. The Deshaun Watson saga takes an ugly turn with a seedy lawyer at the forefront of this. What Watson should do (but won't) to quiet the masses? And NFL content reigns supreme as the league and ESPN sign for an 11 year marriage, which includes more playoff games and in the rotation to broadcast the Super Bowl. (1:03:20) An NHL recap discusses the loss of Islanders captain Anders Lee. A hobbled Evgeni Malkin. The Bruins dealing with COVID. What's going to happen with their schedule as a couple of games have been cancelled? Mika Zibanejad's record night, coupled with Artemi Panerin's reinstatement and the Avalanche bring in a backup goalie with ZERO wins this year? (1:11:26) Opening Day is 10 days away as the Met fan sweats to see if SS Francisco Lindor signs on the dotted line before the first game, as he states he will become a free agent if he doesn't sign before the start of the season. Should the Mets re-sign him now? (1:20:33) Some golf news as we're two and a half weeks away from The Masters commencing at Augusta. Will Brooks Koepka be at the first tee come April 8th? The ides of March are here and so is another jam packed, fast paced sports talk podcast that'll deliver like no other as Episode #185 is in full effect. On deck: (4:35) The horizon of clearing the Sports Dead Zone is drawing near as spring, the NCAA Tournament and the baseball season are about to commence in the days and weeks to come. (6:56) Speaking of the Tournament, I'll cover the top storylines heading into March Madness (The NCAA barely cross the Conference Championship finish line. Is Gonzaga ready to make history? Can the Fighting Illini continue their torrid run? Will COVID affect the tournament at some point?), are some of the topics I'll discuss. I'll breakdown the four regions, which teams will make it to the Final Four and who'll cut down the nets as a champion! (41:21) The NBA has been a bit quiet this past week. Other than what team will Spurs F LaMarcus Aldridge get traded to and an injury to Sixers C Joel Embiid, there isn't much cooking throughout the Association. I will bring you up to speed on both the East & West and where we are in the standings in each conference. (49:22) The NHL and ESPN are ready for their second ‘marriage'. What does this mean to the future of a sports that's in purgatory with the casual fan? I'll dive into that, as well as, the Islanders playing their best hockey with the Carolina Hurricanes not too far behind. Will there be any drama as there's some separation in the race between the top and bottom teams in all four divisions? (1:03:45) The MLB season is two and a half weeks away, but nothing much is happening in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues. Although Stephen Strasburg is nursing an injury and the Mets celebrating a World Series in MARCH??? (1:05:46) NFL free agency is two days away. The Buccaneers are re-tooling as they've re-signed their QB (Tom Brady), their star linebackers (Lavonte David and Shaq Barrett) and have franchised one of their top wideouts (Chris Godwin). I'll share my thoughts on the retirement of Saints QB, Drew Brees. He's an all time great, but is he a top 10 quarterback of all time? Also, Dak Prescott gets his deal at four years and 160 million dollars, but after a gruesome ankle injury is he worth that much? Cam Newton re-ups in New England for one year at 14 million. I ask, why??? (1:18:50) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week that you won't want to miss!!! The sports universe continues to travel at warp speed, so let me navigate you through the stratosphere as I have a lot to share as Episode 183 is ready for takeoff! On deck: (4:56) The NBA All-Star Game has come and gone. It'll be a rather swift recap as there are other important things to discuss. CORRECTION: Anfernee Simons is a member of the Portland Trail Blazers, NOT the Toronto Raptors. I had Raptors stuck in my head because he wore a throwback Tracy McGrady jersey to honor him in the dunk contest. Such as, the officiating and the interminable final two minutes of close ball games to start. I'll also talk about the Blake Griffin signing to Brooklyn. Will he be a contributor to their rise in the East? The Joel Embiid/Ben Simmons COVID watch. James Harden's return to Houston and Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta's declaration of retiring Harden's #13 with the franchise. (????) Utah's respect factor in the West. An uprising in Phoenix and much more! (33:01) Is a clash between Gonzaga and Baylor for the national title a foregone conclusion? Why I think Gonzaga needs to lose before the tournament? Michigan takes a slip and fall. Illinois shines in Big 10. Ohio State plummets. So does West Virginia. I'll have an up to the minute review in college basketball as we enter Conference Championship Week as we're just days away from Selection Sunday. (42:38) The Washington Capitals, Tom Wilson draws a suspension for slamming Bruins D, Brandon Carlo into the boards. I have a logical and simple reason (although the league will NEVER let it happen) as to curtailing hits like that and why the NHL needs to enforce it? The retirement of Blackhawks D, Brent Seabrook. The Flames hire another coach as the coaching carousel continues in Calgary. The untimely death of Mark Pavelich. (56:42) All is quiet in the MLB, but there are a few things to highlight. Shohei Ohtani's progress as a starting pitcher. Trevor Bauer's ‘one eyed' perfect inning. Will that spark the Padres? Indians' Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes COVID trials. The Mickey Callaway saga continues. Aaron Boone's recovery. And why Lou Gehrig Day is what the MLB needs to connect with their history and the fans? (1:08:17) The NFL will open for their business year next Wednesday. with JJ Watt leading the way to Arizona. Plus, Alex Smith's candid comments on his departure from Washington. (1:11:42) Bryson Dechambeau wins the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Will he pick up momentum as The Masters are a month away. (1:12:53) Today marks the Golden Anniversary of arguably, the greatest sports night/event in the history of sports. Revisiting Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier at Madison Square Garden and the impact it had during that time and still resonates today. (1:19:05) Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week. The anniversary celebration vibes continue as I have another special guest on tap as Episode 182 is ready for your listening pleasure. CBS Sports Technical Director Lauren Correa-Sikoryak shares a lot of insight on what it takes behind the scenes during an NFL Sunday, but she also dives into what it took to get her foot in the door in regards to the TV industry, working with legendary sports talk show host, Mike Francesa, getting the opportunity to showcase her talent in the NFL for the Giants and Jets, then making her way to CBS to work on some of the biggest stages that sports has to offer, including the NCAA Tournament/Final Four and the Super Bowl. It's an in-depth look behind the curtain that most sports fans rarely, if ever see. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation from start to finish as you will hear Lauren's excitement, personality and passion come right through your speakers or earbuds. It's a celebratory mood as it's a new month, spring is drawing near and three years are in the books for The JAYREELZ Podcast as Episode 181 will be one to remember. On deck: (4:54) Today marks the third anniversary of the podcast as I share some thoughts about it's beginning, how it's evolved, where it's going and thanking most of all, you, the listener as we kickstart year number four! (11:20) The NBA is about to head into the All-Star Weekend in Atlanta, but not without covering a few topics such as: Kyrie's idea about what the new NBA logo should be. The Raptors dealing with COVID. Victor Oladipo's market and future contract? Teams that are trending north in a competitive East. Same for the West. Will I watch the All-Star festivities come Sunday night? (30:03) Baylor suffers its first loss of the college basketball season. Is this a blessing or a curse? What about Gonzaga as the last undefeated team in the nation? Is there a loss in their future? Plus, the rest of the college ball landscape as we're getting closer to March Madness. (38:38) With a condensed schedule featuring a ton of familiarity, has the NHL become tired with what seems to be the same matchups night after night? Is anyone watching? Why the NHL needs an Original Six team in the Finals for anyone to care? Also, the Artemi Panarin situation with the Rangers is one to keep an eye on moving forward! (53:01) Tiger Woods is on the mend after a horrific car accident left the golf legend with severe leg injuries. What does his recovery look like? And will he make a return to the game at some point down the road? (58:52) The MLB exhibition season has begun as there isn't much to discuss, but there are some storylines that I'll shed light on Albert Pujols retiring after this year? Miguel Cabrera's quest for 500 HR's & 3,000 hits. Is there anyone in the league now that can reach those milestones in the future? Shohei Ohtani flashing that power right arm. Domingo German's mea culpa and quest to get back in the Yankees' good graces. (1:07:05) The ongoing saga of rumors surrounding Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson and if they'll be moved this offseason. I have quite a bit to say about both guys that you won't want to miss. (1:12:17) And of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.
