RERUN: Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Blood & Chocolate ranked (2022)Hey everybody. Dan here. So it's my turn to choose a ReRun Episode we recorded earlier and are bringing back and I chose Elvis Costello's “Blood & Chocolate”. You may know that sometimes I go for an album that is going to be a surefire crowdpleaser with my cohosts. But most of the time, I like picking an album where I genuinely don't know how at least one of them is going to react. It doesn't always work out. Please see the episode where we discuss Lana Del Rey's “Born To Die” if you want to see 90 minutes that left me scarred for life. BUT, the seemingly impossible dream for me was always to introduce an album to all my co-hosts that they didn't know previously and have not one, not two, but ALL THREE of them fall in love with it.Now don't get the wrong idea - that was never the goal of my picks. I'm far too obsessive to make it that simple. It's a complicated algorithm that tries to counterprogram against my past five picks across year of release, genre, and artist characteristics combined with whatever's in my gut at that moment. It's mostly the gut thing actually. But that “what if” idea was always in the back of my head in general. And with this pick, I passed up the typical Costello albums you'd expect to be the go-to pick here because I've always felt Blood & Chocolate was the underappreciated underdog. And I love a good underdog.I'm sure you know that feeling of introducing someone you love to music they also decide to love. There's nothing better. I hope you're listening either because you already dig this album or because you're looking to fall in love with something new. And I hope you're happy now. If you don't get that yet, you'll get it after this episode. Enjoy. What are your most favorite and least-loved songs on Elvis Costello & The Attractions' 1986 album Blood & Chocolate? Dan chose to bring back this raw/ragged fan favorite instead of a more well-known record to get three fresh opinions from casual admirers of Mr. McManus. Jesus was born to destroy the devil and deliver his church through death. He shared fully in our humanity so that, by his death in our place, he might defeat the one who held the power of death and free the ones who were held captive by the fear of death
This is message 6 in Understanding the Love of God Psalm 22 The cross reveals the full weight of sin and the depth of Christ's sacrifice, showing that redemption was not a light or symbolic act but the real outpouring of God's judgment upon the sinless Son. He endured abandonment, rejection, and intense suffering in both body and soul so that sinners could be brought near and made righteous. What appeared to be defeat was in truth the pathway to victory, as His suffering gave way to triumph, securing salvation and establishing Him as the risen King who is worthy of worship, obedience, and proclamation to every generation. Pastor Jack Graham looks to a phrase from a great hymn of Christmas to bring a vital message about new birth. Christmas is all about birth, he teaches. You sometimes hear it said that Jesus was "born to die that we might live." An important prophecy told us how over 700 years before Christ was born. God's providential hand was working powerfully, both then and now. This sermon (also released as a podcast episode) unpacks Isaiah 53 and God's loving plan in the incarnation for his people.

Jesus was born to die, and we were born to live. It may sound morbid, but when Jesus came as a baby all those years ago, He knew what He was doing. He had a mission, a purpose: to give His life for ours, for every human being, so that we could have life. He told us, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy, and I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. Have you received this gift of life? 1 John 5 tells us, He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son (that's Jesus) has life; whoever does not have God's Son does not have life. This simple offer is for you! Will you take it and receive God's abundant life today? Always remember there is hope with God. radio.hopewithgod.com

If Christ really is fully God and fully man, if this glorious incarnation has truly happened, what is its purpose? Why did God actually become man? We are told the answer in the record of his birth in Matthew 1:18-25. He came to save his people from their sins. This he did by dying. The Son of God became man, so that he might die.
Jesus was born to die, to save us from our sins and to obedience to Him.
This Christmas season, we celebrate the birth of Jesus, Immanuel, God with us. But why did He come? In this episode, we dive into the heart of Philippians 2:8, uncovering the profound purpose of His arrival: to rescue sinners and reconcile us to God. From the moment of His birth, Jesus embraced humility, stepping into our broken world as fully God and fully man. He lived a perfect, sinless life, yet willingly faced rejection, suffering, and death on a cross—not for His sin, but for ours. We'll reflect on the powerful truth that Jesus' crucifixion was not the end of the story. On the third day, He rose victorious over sin and death, ascended into heaven, and reigns as King. And one of the greatest promises of Christmas is this: He is coming back soon to make all things new.Join us as we explore the eternal hope and redemption that Christ's birth brings, and remember the greatest gift ever given—Jesus, born to die so that we might live.
