Les nouveautés rythment également l'émission : Geese avec "Cobra", Skegss qui réinterprète "If It Makes You Happy" de Sheryl Crow, puis Day Sleeper recommandé par Francis Zégut. La deuxième heure déroule Oasis, le tout dernier Foo Fighters avec "Asking For A Friend", Sassy 009 en pleine préparation d'un album indie-électro, ou encore Be Your Own Pet. Tónlist þáttarins: Howard, Ben - Couldn't Make It Up. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ever watched a music doc and thought, "Cor, this band's story is brilliant!" only to press play on their actual music and feel your soul quietly retreat into your ankles? This week, Andrew and co-host Dr. Sam put the needle on the record and realise some bands should've stayed in the cutting room. We take a scenic drive through the trainwreck glory of Milli Vanilli, the baffling existential crisis that is Metallica's St. Anger, and the CIA's alleged soft-rock psy-op via The Scorpions. Plus, there's a detour through the fever-dream nonsense of Brian Pern, Joan Jett's bad reputation, and the ongoing mystery of why The Sex Pistols are still interesting despite sounding like a wasp in a tin mug. Expect spiky opinions, tight trousers, and the occasional descent into lyrical despair. And yes, there's hummus chat. Of course there is. What's inside: Bands who are great… as a subject, not as a sound Can AI replace all pop music? (And should it?) Was Wind of Change written by the bloody CIA? Join us for a chat with Canadian emo-revival band Arms Length immediately following their set at the When We Were Young festival. We dive into what makes the band so inherently "emo," which they attribute to their "northern sadness" and the isolation of their Canadian upbringing. Despite living comfortable lives, their music channels the feelings of mental illness and translates it into a sound reminiscent of early 2000s bands. The band discusses the process of writing their latest, highly anticipated album, described by the hosts as "the most devastating album I've ever listened to". They reveal that the writing process was surprisingly therapeutic and fun , taking a few years to process life events and allowing the lyrics to be fully realized. We also get a look at their nerves and excitement for playing a major nostalgia festival like WWWY and their upcoming tour with Hot Mulligan and Drug Church, which they are taking extremely seriously.

Hayden Anhedönia has been making music under the name Ethel Cain since 2019. But it's not just a band name or a moniker; Ethel Cain is a fictional character, a sort of alter ego that Hayden's been creating and world building around throughout her albums. The first Ethel Cain album, Preacher's Daughter, came out in 2022. It ended up blowing up, and it made Hayden the first openly trans artist with an album in the top ten on the Billboard chart. In 2025, she put out the second Ethel Cain album, called Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You. For this episode, I talked to Hayden about how she made the song “Nettles.” As you're about to hear, it took on a lot of different forms, over several years, before she got to the final version. Boll weevils are bigger than ever and they have new skins. Ethel Cain and Lana Del Rey are having fewd together in a car to squash the beef. All edibles are laced with weed and uncontacted tribes use feet to fish because fish don't have any feelings and there are no bugs yet and no Mary who smells like powerbait because ya gotta wash up down there bud. Now you know what to think about this album!
Our favourite Americana girlies are fighting! Alligator wife Lana Del Rey aired her beef with American Teenager singer Ethel Cain to the public by sharing a snippet of an upcoming diss track entitled 'All About Ethel'. The lyrics call out Cain for hating her Instagram post, posing similarly with the pair's shared ex Jack Donoghue and trying to be the most famous girl at Waffle House. In the hours and days since, Nicki Minaj has waded into the beef, fans think they've worked out which Peter Griffin meme tweet pissed Lana off and Azealia Banks has accused every tongue that rises against Ethel of transphobia. In this week's episode, hosts Ione and Gina get stuck into the nuances of stan wars, why certain artists get more leeway on being potentially problematic and whether or not the pair will work it out on the remix.Buy tickets for our London issue launch here!Check out https://www.squarespace.com/POLYESTER10 to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code POLYESTER10.A statement by journalists: We condemn Israel's killing of journalists in Gaza and urge integrity in Western media coverage of Israel's atrocities against Palestinians.Have an opinion and want to be featured on an upcoming episode? Honestly you guys, we spend a good portion of the episode fangirling over Ethel Cain, but that's not all. We dive into Taylor's current album rollout (are we ruining the joy of music by trying to crack every code?), the limits of stan culture (we've GOT to cool it), and the unfolding Lana Del Rey vs. Ethel Cain discourse (a.k.a. the Kendrick vs. Drake drama for sad girls). We wrap things up with a full recap of the Ethel Cain concert, and spoiler alert, it was nothing short of transformative. Created and produced by Claire Donald and Tess Bellomo For more RAM, go here.
