Bandet skal nu helt udelukkes fra at spille i Aarhus i fremtiden, fordi de har fornærmet kongehuset og dermed ikke respekterer Danmark. Am Vorabend ist sie noch, auf Tour mit ihrem zweiten Soloalbum “You Heartbreaker, You”, auf der Bühne der Berghain Kantine zu sehen. Mit kurzem Rock und streng gegelten Haaren, ganz nah am oder gleich im Publikum. Sie und ihre Band spielen unter anderem ein Hardcore-eskes Cover von Björks “Army Of Me”. Elf Stunden später sitzt Jehnny Beth, die eigentlich Camille Berthomier heißt, bei Gastgeber Jan Schwarzkamp auf dem Wohnzimmersessel. Sie kommt an Heiligabend 1984 in Poitier zur Welt und wächst dort auf. Ihre Eltern sind Theaterregisseure, weshalb sie früh in Kontakt mit der Schauspielerei kommt, aber auch mit Jazz und klassischer Musik. Also singt die kleine Camille bald Chet Baker und hat irgendwann sogar eine Jazz-Girl-Band. Den größten Einfluss hat aber Nicolas Congé auf sie. Der ist Musiker und hat einen guten Geschmack. Mit ihm zieht sie, 22-jährig, nach London. Sie wird Jehnny Beth, er wird Johnny Hostile. Zusammen haben sie das Duo John & Jehn. Er produziert auch Savages, die Post-Punk-Band, in der Beth ab 2011 singt und mit der sie ihren internationalen Durchbruch feiert. Auch nach ihrem Alleingang und der Rückkehr nach Frankreich bleibt Hostile der treue Kreativpartner an Beths Seite. Die hat sich längst auch als Schauspielerin etabliert, als sexpositive, bisexuelle Feministin, die gern gesehener Gast ist auf Platten von Künstlern wie Trentemöller, Tindersticks, Gorillaz und Idles. Mit Bobby Gillespie von Primal Scream veröffentlicht sie 2021 gar ein komplettes Duett-Album. Quasi nebenbei moderiert sie für den deutsch-französischen Sender Arte die Sendung “Echoes”. In der spielen vornehmlich Indiebands und Künstler:innen Live-Shows, drumherum lädt Beth zum Interview. Außerdem hat sie über 132 Episoden lang eine Radiosendung für den Streaming-Dienst von Apple, “nur, damit ich alle meine Helden treffen kann.” Darunter: Geoff Barrow, Mike D, Peaches, Mike Patton, Henry Rollins… Im Gespräch zu “Der Soundtrack meines Lebens” erfahren wir unter anderem, dass Steve Albinis Band Shellac daran schuld sind, dass sie mit ca. 13 den Bass in die Hand nimmt. Lo lideran Fiti y Hernán, amigos y compañeros de bandas de adolescencia y que parten de la premisa de la exploración para crear sus canciones. En sus canciones fusionan influencias de bandas como Parálisis Permanente, Ilegales o Aviador Dro, con referencias internacionales y más contemporáneas como las de Idles o Sleaford Mods. Micko Westmoreland in conversation with David Eastaugh https://landlinerecords.com https://www.facebook.com/MickoMellotronic/ The Mellotronics formed in 2017 with the intention of turning Micko Westmoreland's songwriting skills into a dynamic live prospect. Expanding from their initial three piece to the current four strong line up, the band sees Micko's rabble rousing vocals and spiky, agitational guitar work augmented perfectly by the crack squad of drummer Nick Mackay of hotly tipped rock duo Barricades, Owls of Now's Vicky Carroll providing immovable bassline solidity and the intricate, effects-soaked fretwork of Jon Klein (Siouxsie & The Banshees, Specimen). Since then they've been busy cutting their teeth with a series of shows around the capital and beyond, making return visits to the 100 Club in Oxford Street and earning multiple requests for support slots from acts as established as Evan Dando (Lemonheads), David Devant & His Spirit Wife, Blue Orchids, Sheep on Drugs, The Television Personalities and The Monochrome Set. Bringing a new dimension of sharp and economic post-punk/new wave attitude to the diverse Westmoreland songbook, they've been already been favourably compared to The Jam, Pil and Wire as well as the mean, lean but undeniably powerful sound of young bucks like Idles or Shame.  

It's part two of our Caught Stealing sonic special, as composer Rob Simonsen joins us to discuss his contribution to Darren Aronofsky's latest movie, and plenty more besides. But it was great to get Rob on his own so we could dive deep into his own process, as well as some of his other career highlights.

Our latest guest on Soundtracking is Darren Aronofsky, who returns to the podcast to discuss his comedy crime thriller, Caught Stealing. Starring Austin Butler, Regina King, Matt Smith, Zoe Kravitz and Liev Schreiber among others, it tells the story of New York bartender Hank Thompson, who finds himself in all manner of trouble with a motley crue of gangsters and lowlives when he agrees to look after his neighbours cat.
