Steffi Friyia is an accredited Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and the current President of the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO).We're very excited to speak with Steffi about the #GetAMPEDForMusicTherapy campaign, a major Canadian advocacy initiative for music therapy. The #GetAMPED campaign involves music therapists across Canada coming together to call on provincial governments to formally recognize Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) as healthcare professionals, and requests that they be added to the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) Authorized Medical Practitioners (AMP) list in each province. This recognition would allow clients and families to claim music therapy as a medical expense on their taxes, increasing access and equity to services. We're thankful for Steffi and all other MTAs working towards this initiative to increase the recognition of music therapy across the country.
