On this special Thanksgiving episode, we welcome producer Howard Kazanjian to the show! He is the producer of Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark among many others! What was it like to work with George Lucas...AND Steven Spielberg...AND Alfred Hitchcock?? It's an amazing hour+ conversation where we even talk about the most dangerous amusement park rides. This episode takes a deep dive into the world of Entertainment Auctions which have EXPLODED in recent years thanks to the good ol’ Internet. The panel discusses the processes of putting on a massive 2-day pop culture auction from the acquisition of items to “SOLD!”, how being a fan first drives the business, and the preservation and curation of historical film and tv props/art. Whether or not you’re ready to bid, this podcast and these auctions will have something for you even if you’re simply just a fan of nerdly pop culture. Van Eaton Galleries’ “Disneyland: The First 65 Years” auction is August 15 & 16 (vegalleries.com) and Prop Store’s “Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction: Treasures of Film and Television” is August 26 & 27 (propstore.com). Both will be viewable online and really fun to watch!
If there's anything Star Wars likes it's a THRONE ROOM! So in Part One of our new series we begin by examining these staples of sovereignty in the Original Trilogy. We take a look at development, production, in-universe lore, and we address important issues like how many thrones does one chancellor/emperor really need? Is a chair required to qualify as a "throne room"? On a scale of 1-10 how would we rate each throne room? How many times can I say the word "dais"? So pull up your own seat of power and settle in for the first part of our seemingly random but also inexplicably necessary deep dive series! Show Note: Here are the reference books I mentioned that were used for this researching this episode. All of which I highly recommend!1. Star Wars: Complete Locations, excerpts by James Luceno2. The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film, by JW Rinzler3. The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, by JW Rinzler4. The Princess Diarist, by Carrie Fisher5.
