Editor Note: I truncated most of the silences in this recording. This was a workshop, so there was time where nobody was talking. Darker Days Radio is hosting this workshop about converting from one game mechanic system to another. We will talk about where to start when you work through a conversion, how big a role dice percentages play within your conversions, and work through converting from one well-established game system into a different one. This question was so big that we called in a sociologist. This week your Dads dive into the second part of our two part series tackling one really big question. In this episode we're talking to a sociologist about the social structures that enable negative behaviors. Our guest Dad is Alison Buck, a sociologist and professor whose expertise is in the reproduction of racial and gender inequality across a variety of settings, from organizations of work to college classrooms. Alison's dissertation focused on gender and identity in the digital games industry, for which she received her Ph.D. from NC State University.Episode 5 of D&D Dads deals with topics related to abuse and bigotry. We don't deal with specific incidents or people but we do discuss abuse in general and how communities can cope with the impact it might have. This is the second part of a two part series dealing with abuse and bigotry in the gaming community. More lighthearted episodes will return with episode 6.D&D Dads is hosted by Brennan Taylor and J.R. Blackwell and produced by Seamus Ronan. Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes two international best-selling author ALLISON BRENNAN & TAYLOR STEVENS IN CONVERSATION. About Allison: Allison Brennan believes life is too short to be bored, so she had five children and writes three books a year. A former consultant in the California State Legislature, Allison is now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than three dozen thrillers and numerous short stories. Reviewers have called her “a master of suspense” and RT Book Reviews said her books are “mesmerizing” and “complex.” She’s been nominated for multiple awards, including the Thriller, RWA’s Best Romantic Suspense (five times), and twice won the Daphne du Maurier award. She currently writes two series—the Lucy Kincaid/Sean Rogan thrillers and the Maxine Revere cold case mysteries. About Taylor Stevens: TAYLOR STEVENS is the award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of the critically acclaimed Vanessa Michael Munroe series. Published in over twenty languages and optioned for film by James Cameron’s production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, the books are international boots-on-the-ground thrillers featuring a mercenary information hunter in a non-testosterone mix of Jason Bourne and Jack Reacher. Stevens came to writing fiction late. Born into an apocalyptic cult and raised in communes across the globe, she was denied an education beyond 6th grade and spent her adolescence as child labor. Stevens now calls Dallas home. This is a copyrighted podcast owned by the Authors on the Air Global Radio Network. http://authorsontheair.com

Recorded at Metatopia 2017 Presented by Bill White, Brennan Taylor, Lisa Padol, Evan Torner, and more. Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About The Forge (But Were Afraid To Ask). The Forge (www.indie-rpgs.com) was an online discussion site for indie TRPG design, publication, and play that was active from 2001 to 2012. Across tens of thousands of discussion threads, Forge participants hashed out new ways of understanding the dynamics of tabletop RPG play, and developed a new conceptual language for talking about game design, as part of a larger project of promulgating the "indie RPG" message that anyone can design and publish the game they want. This larger mission largely accomplished by 2010, according to its founders, the Forge closed its forums in 2012. But the ideas it offered still have value, and so five years after the closing of the Forge we look back and assess its insights, its accomplishments, and its imbroglios. Presented by Bill White, game designer and game studies scholar currently working on a book about the Forge, along with several regular posters from that era
