In this all new, 46th episode of Shrinking Trump, Dr. John Gartner and Dr. Harry Segel take listeners on a tour of the unsettling psychological and political landscape of Donald Trump's second term. Our guest is Georgia-based political strategist and pundit Fred Hicks, who believes Democrats are due for a political comeback. Our site: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/shrinking-trump Subscribe on iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/shrinking-trump/id1745797271 Subscribe on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4xuuqHxzruLEsQXtTuJjP4 Subscribe on Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/a101a15a-8b18-49c8-b556-c201aece30ee/shrinking-trump Subscribe on iHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-shrinking-trump-175213669/ As experts in psychology, our hosts unravel how Trump's malignant narcissism and cognitive decline are reshaping America into a looming police state. His erratic behavior is not just chaotic—but catastrophic. We'll start by analyzing Trump's self-proclaimed “Freedom Day,” a grandiose spectacle designed to mask the destructive reality of his trade war and horrific immigration policies. Trump hails it as the most significant day in American history, which our hosts expose as a clear symptom of his severe narcissistic personality disorder. Dr. Gartner and Dr. Segal recognize the grim reality of Trump's draconian and lawless immigration policies, drawing chilling historical parallels to oppressive states where citizens disappear without a trace. The episode also points out some of highlights from the resistance, such as Princeton's courageous stand against federal bullying. The hosts commend the university's president for his unwavering defense of academic freedom, summoning a rallying cry for other institutions to do the same. Our guest Fred Hicks sees this and other signs as brilliant glimmers of hope, like recent special elections results in Florida and Wisconsin that hint at a democratic resurgence. Hicks suggests that an economic downturn could spur massive public backlash and even reverse the tide in favor of democratic ideals. Dr. Segel and Dr. Gartner explore the data behind this optimism and point to signs that change may be right on the horizon. And we'll wrap things up with a call for our listeners to remain vigilant and active in the fight against Trump. May this episode serve as a rallying cry for everyone committed to preserving our democracy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Recorded at Metatopia 2016 Presented by Fred Hicks and Chris Hanrahan. Innovation and new ideas are fantastic in game design, but designers have borrowed, stolen, and adapted other people's ideas for as long as we've been making games. Let's talk about whose works have influenced us, how we can best credit and pay homage to that work, and what we might not understand about ourselves as designers based on the works we ourselves have created. Note: This is a short episode with mediocre sound quality. The content is good though!
Recorded at Metatopia 2016 Presented by Emily Dresner, Fred Hicks, Rob Donoghue. You're a successful indie publisher! You did a great job wearing all the hats - game designer, writer, editor, artist, and graphic designer. Now, you want to create something bigger and more grand! You discover that, without years of time, you cannot carry out your vision yourself. You need other people... and that leads to new headaches. We'll talk about tools, techniques, schedules, planning, effective communication, using freelancers, and even a little Agile on how to turn yourself from a one man band into product making machine.
Recorded at Metatopia 2016 Presented by Kenneth Hite, Jason Pitre, Marissa Kelly, Fred Hicks. When designing a game, the temptation is to use another tested rules set: Fate, PbtA, HERO, BRP, OSR, or what have you. When shouldn't you do that? What demands special treatment, and when should you make it yourself?
Zum Staffelfinale haben wir Fred Hicks interviewt, einen der Designer von Fate und Gründer von Evil Hat Publishing.

Origins 2007 Round Table with Chris Hanrahan, Fred Hicks, and Kenneth Hite 0:38 - Before talking about Origins, I briefly discuss the ENnies. This show, along with The Sons of Kryos, The Godzilla Gaming Podcast, Yog Radio, and Fear the Boot, has been nominated for Best Podcast. 4:01 - The Sons of Kryos say hi. 4:14 - Chris Hanrahan (of 2d6 Feet In a Random Direction) and I corner Fred Hicks and Kenneth Hite to talk about our time at Origins, starting with our great dinner at the Burgundy Room. 7:25 - With that out of the way, Fred gives us the scoop on the Indie Press Revolution booth, while I talk about the joy of giving Luke Crane his Origins Award for Burning Empires. This led to a discussion of this year's voting procedure for the Origins Award and how important activism was. 12:08 - Ken talks about carry, Aces and Eights, and Witch Hunter. 23:23 - Prompted by Ken, Fred discusses his time at the IPR booth, focusing on Spirit of the Century and Don't Rest You Head. Among them were Zooloretto, Pizza Box Baseball, Lost Valley, and Jenseits von Theben. 37:46 - After a brief digression about the glories of the North Market, Fred talks about playing a few after-hours RPGs with Jared Sorensen, and we talk about what makes Origins a great experience (as Ken and I discussed last year). 42:14 - Chris and I got to shoot things in TerrorWerks. Ken manages to relate this to the Scandinavian gaming scene and how our hobby is able to adapt and sell a highly-individualized experience. (This is why we invite him on the show.) Fred brings in the Ashcan Front as an example. Eventually this comes around to a discussion of the Origins seminar track. 52:48 - Before we go, Chris gives a shout out to the city of Columbus, and we all agree. 57:28 - This show is part of the Gaming Broadcast Network. 57:34 - I have a few final thoughts on Origins before talking about two projects I've worked on recently, Finis and The Story Games Names Project. --Paul Discuss this episode in the HG,WT forum.
