Authenticity was the heart of our last episode “INTERSTATE and Authentic Trans, Queer, and Asian-American Representation.” Our discussion included artists Kit Yan and Melissa Lee and experts AC Dumlao of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund and Sheena Brevig of the Center for Scholars and Storytellers. The quintet (including host Ruthie Fierberg) deliberated about how we ensure authentic representation and how we can get producers, theatres, and studios to greenlight projects that have non-white or non-male or non-straight or non-cis central characters. We just need more. In every mini-episode, Ruthie recommends one piece of art that connects to the previous week's larger themes. If you INTERSTATE or the conversation around it intrigued you, Ruthie recommends more stories you should explore. In the vein of “more, more, more,” Ruthie decided to offer multiple suggestions of art to put on your list, add to your queue, and place on your shelf. Buckle up for glamour, sex, and money, honey, as we welcome internationally bestselling author Kevin Kwan! Kevin chats with fellow writer Jenna Paone about his methods, his intentions, and of course his blockbuster books, including CRAZY RICH ASIANS, RICH PEOPLE PROBLEMS, CHINA RICH GIRLFRIEND, and his latest, SEX AND VANITY. Hosted by Trisha Blanchet
In conversation with Nydia Han, Consumer Investigative Reporter and co-anchor of 6ABC Action News Sunday mornings Kevin Kwan is the author of Crazy Rich Asians, "a lively, generous story of shallow extravagance and human devotion'' (The Boston Globe) involving Rachel Chu, a young Chinese-American woman, and her trip to meet her boyfriend's extremely wealthy family living in Singapore. An international bestseller that was translated into 30 languages and the opening volume of the trilogy of books including China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, Crazy Rich Asians was adapted into a mega-successful major motion picture. In Sex and Vanity, a Good Morning America Book Club selection, Kwan spins the tale of an engaged woman who finds herself falling for a frustrating but irresistible Asian American man, despite the objections of her family. Books with signed book plates will be mailed after the event. Please allow three weeks for delivery. U.S. orders only. All others will be refunded. (recorded 6/2/2021)

Sex and Vanity is Kevin Kwan’s latest book, following on the sensational success of Crazy Rich Asians, and opening up a world of extravagant travel, love, and deceit, with subtle undertones of the complexities of race and identity. A love affair traversing Capri and the Hamptons, the narrative – a homage to A Room With a View – introduces us to the lives of the ultra-rich seeking happiness in excess, Asian classism and snobbery. The bestselling author of China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems dives into his literary journey and the universe of privilege, couture and cultures his books represent, in conversation with author Shunali Khullar Shroff.
