Good morning from Pharma and Biotech Daily, the podcast that gives you only what's important to hear in the Pharma and Biotech world. Novartis recently acquired Tourmaline for $1.4 billion, continuing its investment in cardiovascular treatments. The company has also made other partnerships in the cardiovascular space this year. Biogen is preparing to release new data on its lupus treatments, with analysts praising the company's pipeline. Novartis has been active in mergers and acquisitions, putting over $17 billion into deals this year. The biotech industry is also seeing some activity, with LB filing for a $228 million IPO to support its phase III plans. Overall, companies like Novartis and Biogen are focusing on expanding their portfolios and developing innovative treatments for various diseases.
The Make America Healthy Again Commission released itssecond report Tuesday, recommending, among other efforts, an investigation into a possible link between vaccines and the uptick in chronic disease. At a livestreamed MAHA commission meeting, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy painted a dire picture of the country's health, saying the U.S. now has “the highest chronic disease burden of any country in the world.” Looking back to last week, all eyes were on HealthSecretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s appearance before the Senate Finance Committee. The combative showdown amounted to little more than political theater, according to industry watchers, with Kennedy accusing former CDC Director Susan Monarez of lying in an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal about his alleged request that she approve vaccine advisors' recommendations in advance of their meeting later this month.Over at the FDA, BioSpace combed through the latest cache of publicized complete response letters (CRLs), including one for Lykos' MDMA-based therapeutic for post-traumatic stress disorder. Going forward, the agency has promised to release CRLs in real time. The greater transparency could help companies spinning on a carousel of confusion caused by all the recent regulatory change. In other FDA news, we take a deep dive into new expert panels, which some commentators view as one-sided, and into the new rare disease approval framework, which one critic called “all wrapper and no gift.” And in the weight loss space, the FDA debuted a consumer “green list” for GLP-1 ingredients. Meanwhile, at the World Conference on Lung Cancer inBarcelona, several data readouts caught our attention. In particular, Summit Therapeutics released disappointing data for its PD-L1/VEGFa bispecific antibody ivonescimab in Western populations—a finding some analysts said could have readthroughs to Bristol Myers Squibb/BioNTech's first ever global data readout for its L1/VEGFa bispecific. Finally, in Biopharm Executive this week, check out features on contingent value rights, which have been getting tacked on to biopharma deals more and more, Amgen's pipeline beyond the obesity drug MariTide and Novartis' recent deal spree, which included the $1.4B acquisition of Tourmaline on Tuesday.
Son élixir magique ? La baisse des taux. Et même pas la baisse en soi : juste l'idée qu'elle viendra un jour suffit à rendre Wall Street euphorique.

In honor of what would have been Marsha P. Johnson's 80th birthday, we're replaying this conversation with Tourmaline about her book “Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson.” In it, she shares what it took to piece together Marsha's story, from her early life in Times Square to her radical visions of freedom, spirituality, and care. She also unpacks Marsha's expansive political imagination, her collaboration with groups like the Black Panthers, and why telling the full truth about her legacy matters more than ever in the face of right-wing historical revisionism. In this episode, we kick things off with a quick look at the newly imposed 35% tariffs by the U.S. on Canadian goods. We then break down earnings from some key Canadian names, starting with TMX Group, which continues to benefit from strong options trading volumes and solid growth from its energy and ETF data platforms.Tourmaline posts strong results despite weak natural gas prices, and signs a lucrative long-term export deal linked to European gas benchmarks. We also dig into Celestica, arguably Canada’s best-performing AI-related stock, and explain why its explosive growth may have more to run—even if customer concentration adds some risk.In the gold space, Agnico Eagle delivers another standout quarter as higher gold prices widen margins and drive profitability to record levels.Lastly, we revisit Allied Properties REIT, where payout ratios are getting dangerously close to unsustainable levels, and where asset sales and debt refinancing will be key to keeping the distribution intact. Reframing Media Narratives for Queer and Trans Liberation with Marsha P Johnson's Story. This show is made possible by you! Episode Description: Activist and artist Marsha P. Johnson was one of the key founders of the gay liberation movement after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, but it's taken years for her to receive recognition. On this special Pride Month edition of “Meet the BIPOC Press”, we're celebrating Marsha's life and legacy with two activists carrying her story forward. A new biography from Penguin House, “Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson” by our guest, Tourmaline traces Marsha's working-class beginnings to her work with sex workers and street activists, to her death in 1992. Qween Jean is a self-described “spiritual daughter” of Marsha and the founder of Black Trans Liberation. Explore how mainstream media coverage once excluded Marsha, and what's changed since then. We also unpack the media's coverage of transphobia and the recent ruling from Tennessee that restricts gender-affirming care for minors. In the face of extreme backlash and repression, how are artists and activists reframing media narratives for queer and trans liberation?“A lot of trans and queer people, especially here in New York City, that are asylum seekers that have had to leave other countries from persecution now find themselves in a place of purgatory . . . They can't even go to get a hormone shot because they're afraid. What if ICE is literally outside waiting for us?” - Qween Jean“Marsha knew that these conditions didn't get to determine how she felt about herself. Artist and author Tourmaline joins the show to talk about her 20 years of research on LGBTQ icon Marsha P. Johnson, the Black trans woman who was one of the key figures of the Stonewall Uprising. We go through hidden queer history from the hourly hotels where Marsha and her friends could express their genders to turn of the century lesbians to the Black room at Stonewall to bottom surgery at Johns Hopkins in the 60s and 70s. We've come so far and yet nothing changes. It was an honor to have Tourmaline on in this moment to discuss queer and trans activism through the ages. Prepare to have chills. Tourmaline's work spotlighting the life of Marsha P. Johnson began with collecting a popular archive online, then a film, and now a biography that's out May 20. In the book, you learn about the notorious Black, trans heroine who moved to New York when she was thirteen, rioted at Stonewall, protected the dolls with Sylvia Rivera and their group Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries/STAR, performed in and around the Village, and left the door open behind her for future queer and trans people, and everyone who believes we should be allowed to self-determine our destinies. Marsha P. Johnson helped change the world—and now, she's getting the biography she deserves. This week, Imara sits down with author and artist Tourmaline to talk about her groundbreaking new book, Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson. Tourmaline shares what it took to piece together Marsha's story, from her early life in Times Square to her radical visions of freedom, spirituality, and care. She also unpacks Marsha's expansive political imagination, her collaborations with groups like the Black Panthers, and why telling the full truth about her legacy matters more than ever in the face of right-wing historical revisionism. Viola Murrone 10:08 Tourmaline can be many colors but that one really grounds you. The black one it's really good for example to help people with autoimmune diseases. GunMaster is a December 1994 arcade exclusive game developed by Metro Corporation. It's a single or two-player boss rush action game that's part fighting game and part platformer; think a dash of Gunstar Heroes with a Neo Geo art style. The game uses a well-established combo of soundchips: the OKIM6295 for 4 channels of ADPCM and the YM2151 for 8 channels of FM audio. Metro Corporation was best known in the 90s for their Bust a Groove / Bust a Move series. More recently they've been a contract developer for Nintendo working on several Pokemon games and the Switch re-release of the Another Code / Trace Memory games. The soundtrack was composed by a trio under the pseudonyms Famishin, MAZ, and Shadow although our information about them is limited. What we do know is that Famishin continues to work in the game industry with their company Yuzusoft, with game releases as recently as 2022. MAZ was last seen as composer for Metro Corporation's PS1 game BursTrick: Wake Boarding!!, and Shadow is as elusive as Totsukurzwell (from our show on Dangerous Seed). As always, we hope you enjoy this boss music heavy soundtrack.
