In the Bible it says that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, so why doesn't the church talk about it more?

This week, Tim and Rodney discuss the reality of giving. Is a tithe actually a tenth, is it more or do we have freedom in Christ to decide how much? Some people believe the church just wants your money. Why they believe that might be more about unintentional miss management of the money the Church does have and less about greed. I think the church should think more about meeting the community IN the community. They have a responsibility to become the community through the marketplace. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/justhitrecord/message

Does the church care more about your money or more about your spiritual well-being? Money can be a difficult topic of discussion, especially inside the walls of a church, even though it's a topic the Bible and Jesus don't avoid. The real question we all face is this: Is the church being greedy or am I?About "The Nonmicrowaved Truth":How fast do you have to have "IT"? Our culture tells us to find a microwave to speed up the process. C.L. Whiteside, a man who sees and hears multiple perspectives through his life of coaching sports, serving in education, and attempting to conform to Christ, searches for the nonmicrowaved truth. C.L. gets that what's cool and acceptable now, may not be cool and acceptable tomorrow—and most importantly, may not be what's best.Hit up C.L. on Twitter or Instagram: @ChampionLife23"The Nonmicrowaved Truth" is a Time of Grace production.

Money is so important in our lives as God’s people that it is the second most frequently mentioned theme in the Bible. Our fundamental understanding of God’s abundance and of our own sufficiency is ultimately a spiritual issue. Faithful money decisions can strengthen our family relationships, empower us to share our resources with others, and free us to live out God’s call on our lives. And yet most of us who go to church hear little or nothing about money there unless the church is raising money for next year’s budget or a new capital campaign. What’s up with that? How can the church be so silent on such an important issue? Our guests today, Rev. Roy Howard and Rev. Kim McDowell, are pastors of churches that have moved out of the silence to actually talk about money. Perhaps their stories will inspire you and your local faith community to step out into this vital realm of our spiritual journey.

The church and money have quite a chequered history. Many have loved money and the power it brings. Jesus saw all possessions as belonging to God. He calls us to be generous with what we have. How we handle money is connected to our spiritual health.

In this episode, we cover tithing, church maintenance, and poop emojis. Should churches pay for your rent? We'll look at one instance that does. Wende continues to see the deepest goodness in everything, as she aptly notes the ice-cream like structure of the famous poop emoji. It's also important to note that while she may not sentence you to hell for stealing her air conditioner, Jason may. In the interview segment, we welcome old testament economist Roger Nam. Roger Nam (PhD, UCLA) serves as the dean of Portland Seminary and professor of biblical studies. Nam’s work is primarily on understanding the nature of the economy in the ancient Near East, as reflected in biblical and extra-biblical texts. His first book, Portrayals of Exchange in the Book of Kings https://amzn.to/34z00N4 (Brill, 2012), examines the social structures that undergird the economy of ancient Israel. He is presently completing The Theology of the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah (Cambridge University Press) as well as a technical commentary on Ezra-Nehemiah for the Old Testament Library (Westminster John Knox). Nam is coediting The Oxford Handbook for Wealth and Poverty in the Biblical World (Oxford University Press), and he co-chairs the steering committee for Economics in the Biblical World for the Society of Biblical Literature’s annual meetings. Nam is a grant principal for Theologia, The Institute for Pastoral Thriving, and he oversees the Kern 3-2 Grant Program, set to launch in the fall of 2019. He is a contributor to Working Preacher, and a frequent collaborator with the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning. Nam previously worked as a pastor in Seoul, Korea, and as a financial analyst in the Silicon Valley. Despite Roger's extensive academic prowess, we love that he brought an incredibly personable, fun, and dare we say the humorous approach to applying biblical ethics and over our economic systems. Challenging and awesome stuff.
Jesus talked about money a lot because he knew that our relationship to money matters. In our passage, Jesus says that you cannot serve God and wealth. In the original language, the word Jesus used for wealth was mammon. Mammon was an ancient “Syrian deity” a “god of riches,” wealth, and money. People worshipped mammon…

How Big is the Emphasis on Money and Finance? Has this Emphasis Damaged the Reputation of the Organized Church today? At What Point do we Cross the Line between the need to fund the local organization and the perception of just plain Greed?
Common Financial Myths often taught in Churches
When is comes to church and money many individuals become turned off as soon as the see the gold plate of hear the word money.. Many individuals have a misunderstanding about what the church does with the money. And other have had bad experiences. Years ago the church was a place to go when one was in need. However, others have been disappointed or perhaps hold grudges which causes them to withhold their money. I can recall as a child listening to adults argue in the church about money as my mother entered a meeting uninvited trying to hear a Word from the Lord. That memory stayed with me for years. All of todays churches are really not just about passing the plate. I say this because I can only spek for the churches that I have attended in over the past 25 years. I am aware that there are also some church leaders that consider offering like a Sunday morning stickup. There are also some religious leaders that believe that tithing is not mandatory for Christians.I have also witnessed pastors being the first person to put the money in the plate. What does Stewardship means to you? Why do some members appear to be more blessed than others? Do you give your money to the church before you pay your bills? These are just a few questions that individuals have raised. Join Pastor Daniel Estell and I as we talk about church and money. Paster Daniel Estell is also a business man with a lot of knowledge as it relates to the owning and operating a business. As Christians we must learn about the value of money for the Kingdom and for our home. God does not want us to be broke however many of us have bad habits and lack knowledge as it relate to money and finances. Let talk about this issus. We all should want to prosphere and live in overflow. Don't let a perception of the church wanting your money keep you out of church. Live 8/7/18 at 11:30am. We all have a next step to take — whether you've followed Jesus for years or just met Him. If someone has just decided to follow Jesus, his/her next step is to tell the world by sharing their story and getting baptized...we call it "wearing the Jesus jersey!" Maybe you'd like to use your skills and join a Serve Team. Maybe you want to grow in a smaller setting and connect with others like you in a Community Group. Maybe it's time to trust God with your finances and return your first 10%, the tithe, to Him. Whatever your next step is, many of us are asking the question, "What's next?" We explore what it means to take a next step and discover what that step is over the course of this series.Support the show (http://www.momentumchurch.org/give)
