Welcome back to the occasional series on the podcast called Fintech Revealed. This is a sponsored show where we take a deep dive on one topic with a couple of industry experts.Today, we have Nico Simko, CEO and Co-Founder of Clair and Dan Loomis, the General Manager and Head of Product for the Money Group at Gusto. The topic we are doing a deep dive in today is Earned Wage Access (EWA) - one of my favorite fintech innovations of the last decade. We cover a great deal of territory on this show as we delve into embedded finance and the evolution of EWA (for reference I interviewed Nico on the show last year). In this podcast you will learn:Why Clair focuses on being embedded with HR and payroll companies instead of going direct to consumer or direct to employers. What piqued the interest of Gusto to offer EWA.What was involved in getting Clair up and running at Gusto. The two pieces that had to be in place at Clair to be able to embed their tech at Gusto. What employees are using EWA for at Gusto. How EWA is presented to employees in the Gusto app.How Clair worked with Gusto to determine how exactly to integrate EWA into their wallet. How the roll out has been going. What Gusto users are telling them about EWA.How fast a user can get money to their card if they have never used EWA before. Why Clair took the regulatory approach of treating EWA as a loan. What resistance, if any, employers have to offering EWA.What is stopping more payroll companies from signing up for EWA.Some of the limitations of the direct to consumer EWA model. What it is going to take for EWA to become ubiquitous.Connect with Fintech One-on-One: Tweet me @PeterRenton Connect with me on LinkedIn Find previous Fintech One-on-One episodes

Saxophonist Joel Frahm is one of the warmest people I know AND he has one of the warmest tenor sounds to boot. I first became aware of his immense musicality when hearing him on the albums of vocalist Jane Monheit and I've been smitten with his lyricism ever since. His latest release, “The Bright Side”, features a chordless trio with bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Ernesto Cervini. The album came out on Anzic Records in June 2021 and is a joyous showcase for Joel's creativity and his longstanding collaboration with Dan and Ernesto. Joel was kind enough to take my call from his new home of Nashville. We chatted about the album, the importance of melody, and he recounted hearing Jane for the first time-one of those “I knew her back when” fairytales. Show Notes: Tracklisting: - Beeline - Cheek to Cheek - Thinking of Benny - Blued Dharma - Boo Dip Dip The Bright Side is out on Anzic Records now. Joel will appear with Ernesto Cervini's "Turboprop" at The Rex in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from 8-11 December 2021 Theme music by The Respect Sextet Follow The Jazz Session on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook Subscribe to The Jazz Session's YouTube Channel Support The Jazz Session by becoming a member at Patreon. Vadim Neselovskyi joins us this time. The Ukrainian pianist reveals his process as composer, solo performer, and bandleader, to arrive at dazzling displays of virtuosity and memorable melodicism. His skills as an improvisor and composer continues the thread of his own mentors, and collaborators, in the field: Vibraphonist, Gary Burton, and Pianist, Fred Hersch. A Professor at Berklee College of Music, Vadim still enjoys a full schedule of collaboration and performances throughout the world. While fervent duets with Bassist, Jeff Denson, or Flugelhorn player, Acardy Shilkoper, can be heard on his itinerary, it is his trio, 'Agricultural Dreams', with Isreali Drummer, Ronen Itzik, and Bassist, Dan Loomis, that he is most excited to present. A new recording with the trio can be expected in 2016/17.

This particular line-up of the band performed for the first time in Albany, NY, during the 2009 Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival. After the show, the four musicians talked about the freedom found in a band without a chordal instrument; how they approach complex rhythms and forms; and what makes the experience of collective improvisation such a joy.
