"Gratitude starts with being thankful for you before being thankful for anything else." — Sheila Kamuda Sheila Kamuda is an empowerment coach specializing in boosting confidence and leadership abilities. Her coaching career was inspired by two pivotal events: a personal healing journey following the loss of her husband and a robust 15-year stint in leadership roles. Sheila is also an author, with her works focusing on self-discovery and personal empowerment. Her work, encapsulated in her latest book "Say Yes to Yes," empowers individuals to embrace opportunities and lead a fulfilling, confident life. Episode Summary: In this enlightening episode of "Oh My Health, There Is Hope," host Jana Short welcomes empowerment coach Sheila Kamuda to share her compelling story and provide insights into leading a life filled with confidence. Sheila recounts her transformative journey through grief after losing her husband, a period during which writing daily letters to him helped her heal. Over the course of six years, Sheila penned almost 2,000 letters, during which she discovered the potent question, "What is on the other side of grief?" This pivotal inquiry led her to emerge as a more robust and empowered version of herself, sparking her mission to help others discover their inner strength. Sheila Kamuda fervently discusses cultural and self-imposed barriers many women face, especially in terms of confidence and social expectations. She stresses living "out loud" and proudly declaring one's achievements, no matter their size. The episode delves deeply into understanding personal purpose and embracing opportunities, with Sheila encouraging listeners to lead with confidence against fears and societal judgments. Her book "Say Yes to Yes" offers an empowering philosophy: embracing even minor opportunities can lead to significant transformations, a concept shaped by Sheila's personal experiences and professional expertise. Key Takeaways: Sheila Kamuda's personal healing journey illustrates the transformative power of expressing emotions and questioning grief. Identifying and cherishing personal achievements, regardless of their size, can have a significant impact on self-confidence and the discovery of purpose. Living 'out loud' involves embracing one's unique story, regardless of societal or cultural narratives. Openness to opportunities, however small, can usher in profound changes in one's personal and professional life. The importance of rewriting limiting beliefs into affirming narratives to foster personal growth and empowerment. Sometimes the most powerful Reinventions don't start with a plan, but with two people realizing their different strengths belong in the same story. In this episode, I chat with the wonderful Meredith Lavender and Kendall Shores, the dynamic co-authors of the sizzling debut novel Happy Wife. Happy Wife has captured national attention as a "Read with Jenna Book Club Pick," a SheReads Must-Read, and a Paste.com Most Anticipated Thriller. The novel has earned widespread praise, including Jenna Bush Hager's “delicious, fun summer book” endorsement, along with acclaim from Booklist and Red Carpet Crash. But before their success, Meredith spent decades shaping stories in Hollywood, show running The Flight Attendant and developing new series with Netflix, Showtime and Paramount+, while Kendall built her career in communications, beginning with grant writing at the Orlando Science Center before moving into strategy roles at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Mailchimp.Their journeys took a turn when Kendall turned 40 and chose to stop telling herself the story that she couldn't write a novel, just as Meredith was navigating the writers' strike and searching for a new creative outlet beyond television.Together, they represent two sides of the same coin, and show what happens when you put different strengths together. As two working moms, they blended carpools with Zooms, powered through their first draft in a single summer with a fail-fast mentality, and showed that momentum outweighs perfection. More than anything, it's about the courage to say your dream out loud, the power of creating with others, and the reminder that reinvention is possible—and exhilarating—at any stage of life.Key Takeaways Embrace a fail fast mentality - experiment quickly, learn, and keep moving forward. It's okay not to grind at the desk every day - sometimes the best creativity comes from stepping away, sitting on the couch, or just taking a breather.Saying your dream out loud invites accountability and energy - when others hear it, they often help you bring it to life. When your hobby becomes your job - build new rituals and outlets so your passion doesn't get lost in deadlines.Confidence often comes after action - momentum builds belief faster than waiting to “feel ready.”Link to their book: https://www.amazon.com/Happy-Wife-Novel-Meredith-Lavender/dp/0593974379https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/771523/happy-wife-a-read-with-jenna-pick-by-meredith-lavender-and-kendall-shores/Learn More about the Authors: https://www.meredithandkendall.com/Kathi Sharpe-Ross and all things RE:INVENTION:IG: https://www.instagram.com/kathisr_chief_reinventor/FB: https://www.facebook.com/kathi.sharpeross/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathisharpeross Twitter: https://twitter.com/ReinventionExchTHE RE:INVENTION EXCHANGE - for more Inspired Content, Blogs, Podcasts, RE:INVENTION Virtual Chats, or to buy a copy of my book RE:INVENT YOUR LIFE! David Litt is a writer, political speechwriter, and author best known for his work as a senior presidential speechwriter for President Barack Obama. Joining the White House at just 24, Litt became one of the youngest speechwriters in history, contributing to remarks on issues ranging from healthcare and climate change to comedy sketches for the White House Correspondents' Dinner. After leaving government, he turned to writing for a wider audience. His memoir, Thanks, Obama, blends sharp political insight with self-deprecating humor, earning praise for its candid behind-the-scenes look at life in the West Wing. He later published Democracy in One Book or Less, an accessible, witty exploration of how America's political system works—and how it doesn't. His latest book, It's Only Drowning, is a laugh-out-loud love letter to surfing—and the story of an unlikely friendship, one that crosses the fault lines of education, ideology, and culture tearing so many of us apart. Send us a textThis week, I'm sharing something exciting: I co-authored a new book called The Courage to Raise! It's a collaborative project with eight other special needs moms, and I'm proud (and a little surprised) to be a published author again—especially since writing has never come easily to me.In this episode, I talk about how the opportunity came about (perfect timing while I was already traveling), what my chapter is about, and the special tool I included called Tolerating the Intolerable—a game plan for surviving those chaotic, over-the-top moments we know too well. I even share a few “plays” that didn't make the book but are too good not to mention (Skedaddle, anyone?).Whether or not you buy the book (but I hope you do!), this episode offers a behind-the-scenes look at how I turned hard stories into something meaningful.Resources Mentioned:

This past month, Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols announced the creation of the Greenwood Trust, a $105 million private fund dedicated to repairing and restoring the Greenwood District—site of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. In an address rich with history and a call for shared courage, Nichols described the fund as the city's next step in righting past wrongs and investing in a more just and equitable future. Let's listen to this historic moment.A young man locked up for a minor probation violation is dead—his body battered and his family left in the dark. The case of Marquiel Ross, a 24-year-old from Tulsa, raises serious questions about a broken prison system and the deadly consequences of a culture of neglect and mismanagement. Jeremy Kuzmarov has details. In the conclusion of our broadcast of Tribal Justice: The struggle for Black Rights on Native Land (full story can be found on Audible.com), we hear about Michael Hill, a Cherokee Freedmen who was arrested by the Okmulgee Police in the fall of 2020. He fought to have his case transferred to tribal court because he's an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. After all, this was right after the McGirt decision which returned criminal jurisdiction to tribal nations in Oklahoma when they involve Native people-like Michael. But Michael's case was complicated-because of his status as a Black man with no blood quantum, his case did not qualify to be transferred. Caitlin Davies has always wanted to be a writer. It took her a long time to admit it to herself, let alone voice it aloud. She started writing as a journalist, covering stories across Europe and Africa, and now, finally, is a published author. She writes widely, switching genres and styles, releasing 6 novels and 8 narrative nonfiction books along the way. Caitlin tends to be inspired by forgotten women from history, and water. Her most recent book is 'Private Inquiries: The Secret History of Female Sleuths'. It was partly inspired by 'Queens of the Underworld' and 'Bad Girls', two books that told a history of crime from the other side of the coin - from the crooks. Caitlin has also published books about swimming in the Thames River, the Ponds on Hampstead Heath, and the history of Camden Lock. To make time to write, Caitlin has fingers in many different creative earning pies - occasionally teaching, designing and decorating sea shells for local businesses. We discuss how all this feeds into inspiration for her books. You can hear whether, as her writing seems so varied and eclectic, there is any grand plan for where it'll take her, also why she wnet back to school for reserach, and why she forgets how tricky it is writing fiction after a time away. You can get a copy of the book here - uk.bookshop.org/shop/writersroutineSupport the show - patreon.com/writersroutineko-fi.com/writersroutine@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast.
