This week, we're joined by Ernesto Cervini, one of Canada's premiere jazz artists, who also runs Orange Grove Publicity. The drummer, composer, and bandleader chats about making a life and a living in the music business, and the literary inspirations behind his latest offering, 2022's Joy. The Juno-nominated Joy was inspired by a series of book's Cervini loves: Louise Penny's Three Pines series. The album is a musical journey through the soul and heart of the series and the characters who inhabit it, guided by an adoring fan. Cervini's music and personality beam with unbridled joy and this album is a true reflection of that.
Ernesto Cervini's new album, Joy, was inspired by Louise Penny's detective series about Chief Inspector Gamache. That series has now been made into the show Three Pines. In this interview, Ernesto talks about how the books inspired the music; why he decided to work with vocalists for the first time; composing music based on novels given that some listeners won't have read them; and much more. Saxophonist Joel Frahm is one of the warmest people I know AND he has one of the warmest tenor sounds to boot. I first became aware of his immense musicality when hearing him on the albums of vocalist Jane Monheit and I've been smitten with his lyricism ever since. His latest release, “The Bright Side”, features a chordless trio with bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Ernesto Cervini. The album came out on Anzic Records in June 2021 and is a joyous showcase for Joel's creativity and his longstanding collaboration with Dan and Ernesto. Joel was kind enough to take my call from his new home of Nashville. We chatted about the album, the importance of melody, and he recounted hearing Jane for the first time-one of those “I knew her back when” fairytales. "On today’s episode of The Jazz Hole, interview guest Philippe Lemm talks about “First Steps” by the Philippe Lemm Trio (released via Outside In Music), consisting of Philippe Lemm on drums & percussion, Angelo Di Loreto on piano and Jeff Koch on drums. The new album by the NYC-based Dutch drummer, percussionist and composer Philippe Lemm is centered around his unique background in dance, but it also happens to be pianist and composer Angelo di Loreto's last studio recording before his tragic passing last Fall. Philippe Lemm took the time to talk about the beautiful music as well as the sad tragedy. The other trio featured on today’s ensemble is TuneTown, which pools the creativity of three of Canada’s top jazz improvisers: Kelly Jefferson (saxophones), Artie Roth (bass) and Ernesto Cervini (drums, percussion and on bass clarinet). Por Pachi Tapiz. “Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise” Ernesto Cervini: Tetrahedron (Anzic Records) Ernesto Cervini, Nir Felder, Rich Brown, Luis Deniz © Pachi Tapiz, 2020 JazzX5 es un minipodcast de HDO de la Factoría Tomajazz presentado, editado y producido por Pachi Tapiz.

Se hacen llamar Larsen C & The Millenials.
