I found an awesome post from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) and it's a powerful and much needed reminder that all of us have the ability to be a leader in life. Find his site HERE. In case you have not noticed, the world needs us more than ever! He reminds us: “You are a leader!” You may not have a title. You may not have people report to you. Maybe you never thought of yourself as a leader. But I'm here to tell you that if you live a life of integrity… If you show others what discipline, consistency and devotion look like… If you encourage someone today… If people know you believe in them… If you lend someone a helping hand… If you lift someone up with your words… If you coach a friend through a challenging situation… If you solve a client's problem… If you guide a customer in the right direction… If you hold your friends accountable… If you get a child to eat their vegetables… If you love, serve and care…If you impact the life of another human being… You are a leader! Lead well! Lead Positive!” Such a powerful post with powerful examples for all of us. I shared this post with this thought: “Amazing truth here … many so-called / self-described “leaders” are out there needing to take lessons from real leaders, real people… integrity / character shine so brightly for those that “… love, serve and care…”! We need more of this!” It astounds me that we have so many people with titles that think they are leaders, yet they simply make things worse for others and certainly don't look to serve others. Once again, that's why we all have the ability to make a difference in this world. The funeral service I went to this past weekend… a 19 year old girl… was a difference maker on so many levels! Classic post from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he shared a “Mindset Monday” thought. “Replace “Have to” with “Get to.” Jon shares with us: “Shift your perspective and realize it's not about having to do anything. Life is not an obligation. It's a gift. Focus on gratitude and you'll find yourself feeling blessed instead of stressed.” This was something that I needed to connect with and remind myself how important my mindset is. Thanks for listening.
I came across this post from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he shared this thought: “You won't always feel confident. But you can always be courageous and take action anyway.” This fit in exactly with a podcast from Sam Crowley - you can find this episode HERE. Sam was talking about going through a rough time a year ago when he was stuck and he pushed through so that he could clear things up and pivot into a new direction for his life. So much to pick up from others like Jon and Sam. Everyone goes through “stuff” and we can get though our “stuff” with the help of others and the reminders to be courageous. Thanks for listening. I found a great reminder for all of us when it comes to creating something special in our life and the fact that there are tons of distractions out there that we need to filter through. From Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) he shares this thought from his book “The Carpenter” - “To create something special you have to care more about what you are creating than the distractions vying for your attention.” Well, seeing that there are tons of distractions for all of us in our world today - I wanted to get this out there so we can start to maybe find ways to focus on what we want more than we focus on those distractions. For me, it's always challenging, but I'm working toward getting better with this. How about you? Thanks for listening. In today's episode, Dr. Killeen shares a powerful lesson from The Coffee Bean by Jon Gordon and Damon West. Life—and dentistry—can feel like a pot of boiling water, full of stress and pressure. You can let it soften you like a carrot, harden you like an egg, or transform it like a coffee bean. Learn how to bring positive energy, leadership, and kindness into even the toughest situations, and discover how small choices can change the environment around you.
In this episode, we talk honestly about something so many of us feel but almost never say out loud: loneliness. It's crazy how life can look so full from the outside… so many people, so much activity… and yet on the inside, we feel completely empty. We've gotten really good at giving the illusion that everything's great, even when it's not. But that gap between what we show and what's actually real? It's exhausting! And it's taking a toll on so many of us. Loneliness can affect us mentally, spiritually, and even physically. But hear this: God never intended for you to walk through life by yourself. From the very beginning, He hardwired us for close friendships. Deep, honest, life-giving friendships. In this conversation, we talk about how to move past the surface, how to admit when we're lonely, and how to start pursuing the kind of real connection our souls are craving. 21 MUST FOLLOWS: Pastors Noah Herrin - @noahherrin Megan Fate Marshman - @meganfate Jonathon Pokluda - @jpokluda World Events Carlos Whittaker - @loswhit Sharon McMahon - @sharonsaysso Rich Villodas - @richvillodas Sharon Hodde Miller - @sharonhmiller Therapy/Knowing Yourself Jason VanRuler - @jason.vanruler Mike Foster - @mikefoster2000 Carl Lentz - @carllentz Goals and Outlook Carey Nieuwhof - @careynieuwhof Jon Acuff - @jonacuff Jon Gordon - @jongordon11 Ethan Bernard - @ethanbenard Nonprofits I love God behind bars - @godbehindbars IJM - @ijm Convoy of Hope - @convoyofhope Joy Jimmy Darts - @jimmydarts Cam Bynum - @cambeezy_24 Gabe Dannenbring - @gabedannenbring Style/Fashion Joe Burrow - @joeyb_9 Thanks to our amazing partners on this episode: International Justice Mission is a global nonprofit working to end slavery and violence around the world, taking special care of survivors from the moment they're rescued all the way through their healing and restoration. Chad shares the journey behind his “fully invested” philosophy: from the pivotal moment he chose family over chasing the Wall Street grind, to building successful businesses while making his marriage and five kids a top priority. Together, we unpack why “work-life balance” is a myth, and how true fulfillment comes from integrating your values into every part of your life, not compartmentalizing them. Key themes include learning to say no to good opportunities so you can say yes to great ones, cultivating championship teams in business and family, and establishing rituals and communication that keep loved ones connected even as life and careers evolve. Chad's candid stories and practical strategies illuminate how being present, whether at home or work, not only deepens relationships but powers greater professional success. Whether you're longing for more meaning at home while building your career, or questioning if you really have to choose between family and ambition, this episode is a powerful reminder that your richest life is possible when you invest fully in what truly matters. Sharing some great thoughts with you today from the legend, Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he reminds us in his “Mindset Monday” post, that “It's better to give than receive. Yet some people are reluctant to give because they don't feel like they have enough. That's a scarcity mindset. When you give, you find abundance. The more you give, the more you receive to give away. Be a giver! Live generous today!” The more we keep working on ourselves to be our best, we will have plenty to give away. Remember, it's not just money. It's our time, our listening, our laughter, our smiles, our help, etc. Things like this get me so fired up because I've seen it happen for me - especially lately. I'm glad I'm finally learning how important this is. I've had glimpses of it before throughout my younger years, but not the clear understanding on how awesome this is. Keep at it my friends. At Redeemer, our pathway is how we seek to embody our vision and mission, or in other words, put it into practice. We desire every person to enter into intentional apprenticeship to Jesus, to be in a diverse, loving community, and to live in Wichita as witnesses. “The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men and women into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became man for no other purpose.” – CS Lewis At Redeemer, we take seriously Jesus' call to “Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Apprenticeship to Jesus is not a one time decision, but a lifelong journey of following Jesus as our master-teacher. Since the goal of the Christian life is maturity in Jesus, apprenticeship must be deep and holistic, transforming the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and vocational parts of men and women. Apprenticeship to Jesus is learning to practice the way of Jesus in our homes, relationships, neighborhoods, and jobs. We believe Christlikeness is cultivated as we implement spiritual practices, live in community with other believers, and submit to the Word and the Spirit. We agree with Dallas Willard who said, “that the gospel is opposed to earning, not effort.” As we move towards cultivating a life of loving God and people, we trust Christ will mature us into his likeness. https://redeemerwichita.church/
A great team starts with a compelling VISION. But what's most important is having CLARITY regarding the specific COMMITMENTS the team makes, and the individuals make, to achieve the vision. One of the foundational commitments is CONNECTION. And how both coaches and players can do it.

And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Joe Zentmyer shares that the hardest part of growing a small business is the pace of decision-making and filtering feedback. He explains that entrepreneurs often hear only the extremes—overly positive or overly negative voices—while the real insights usually lie in the middle. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Joe Zentmyer told that one of the most impactful books for him is “The Energy Bus” by Jon Gordon, which focuses on motivating people, getting them aligned, and building positive momentum within a team. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Joe Zentmyer shares that he listens widely to many business podcasts and online resources, cycling through different voices to absorb as much knowledge as possible. He believes entrepreneurs should avoid sticking to just one source and instead learn from a wide range of perspectives. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Joe Zentmyer shares that small business owners should not hesitate to invest in simple online apps and tools that save time on repetitive tasks. Even spending $20–$50 a month on the right software can free up valuable hours, making efficiency a key growth resource. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Joe Zentmyer shares that if he could go back, he would tell himself to believe in the journey and enjoy the ride. Building a business is full of challenges and surprises, but embracing the process with confidence makes it worthwhile.

This book is one that I know I will be recommending to many people. As I continue to read Jon Gordon's latest book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, the lessons that are available for all of us remind me that I need to simply just work on getting better every single day. I hope, since you are listening to this podcast and probably others, that you want to keep improving too. In this final part 5 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Talk to yourself. Don't listen to yourself.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this is the final one, the “T”. This is one of my favorites because I need this reminder every single day! Instead of letting my own negative & self-defeating voice direct my day, I need to talk to myself and be my own biggest encourager & cheerleader!! Since we are the thoughts that we think & believe, we might as well be thinking and believing our best!! I can't believe the negative ones, I need to connect with & live out the positive ones. Nobody is going to do this for me, I need to speak these into existence into my own life. Love these reminders of these 5 lessons. Thanks for listening. This book is a good one. As I continue to read Jon Gordon's latest book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, the lessons that are available for all of us are powerful and life-changing. In part 4 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Have Faith.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this one is the “H”. When it comes down to it, Faith helps us to connect with the idea that things are going to get better. Of course we need to understand that challenges will come along in life.. Many of them of course… but we also need to understand (and believe) that we will overcome them. Love this line from the book - “Trust that struggle leads to strength and setbacks lead to comebacks.” This is something that I need to work on for sure. John O'Leary (https://johnolearyinspires.com/) says it all the time, that we should believe that “the best is yet to come.” Thanks for listening. As I gladly continue to read Jon Gordon's latest book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, I am fired up about continuing to gather so many life lessons. In part 3 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Get To.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this one is the “G”. This one is right to my heart as Jon reminds us about when we find ourselves complaining - which I still need to work on - we need to remind ourselves that we “get to” do things in our miracle of life, instead of “having to do” them. When we are able to focus on Gratitude, we can move from being selfish, frustrated, and stressed to more of an attitude of gratitude, appreciation and abundance. I love this reminder: “Research shows that you can't be stressed and thankful at the same time. If you are feeling grateful, you won't feel stressed.” He is 100% on target. I just need to do it a bit more often, every day!! I am working on it so it becomes more of a habit. Thanks for listening. As I continue to read Jon Gordon's new book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, I continue to pick up so many life lessons. In part 2 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Inside Out.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this one is the “I”. Jon reminds us that the real truth and power of our lives comes from inside us, not from the outside world. I love this point that he brings up that as we create our life from the inside out, it's all about our spirit, our soul, our passion, and our power from within us. This is why it's always so important to keep working on ourselves, all throughout life! Keep improving, it's the way to go!! Thanks for listening. Welcome to The Jon Gordon Podcast! I'm Jon Gordon, and in today's episode, I want to have a real conversation with you about commitment—what it truly looks like, and why it changes everything. I've seen firsthand, through my own life and in the lives of those I love, what happens when we show up fully versus when we hold back. Today, I share a personal story about my mom's unwavering commitment and my own journey toward being a more committed husband, father, and leader. We often talk about how others fall short, but rarely do we turn the spotlight inward. The challenge I have for you is simple: focus on being the most committed person in the room—at work, at home, on your team. Commitment isn't easy. It comes at a cost, whether it's time, energy, or putting others before ourselves. But when we commit, we not only better ourselves, we uplift those around us. Tune in to discover how a shift toward greater commitment can take you, your family, and your team to a higher level. If this message resonates, please share it with someone who might need that extra encouragement today. Let's keep growing together. Is Your Team Truly Committed—Or Just Chasing Goals? What separates teams that succeed from those that just survive? It's not talent. It's not resources. It's commitment. This week, I sit down with my great friend Jon Gordon, and we got real about what it takes to build a team that doesn't just perform, but thrives under pressure. Jon's new book, The Seven Commitments of a Great Team, is more than theory—it's the roadmap every leader, entrepreneur, and family builder needs. We talked about why goals aren't enough. Everybody's got goals. But not everybody is committed. Jon broke it down beautifully—commitment is about action. It's about the daily disciplines that align with your vision. That won't happen without commitments to how you show up, how you serve, and how you lead your team. “Commitment is going to cost you something,” Jon said. “You have to ask yourself—what are you willing to give, and what are you willing to give up?” One of the biggest takeaways? The power of connection and love on a team. That might sound soft, but it's not. Love is what makes great teams fight for each other. It's what transforms a locker room, a boardroom, or a household. “You'll never have commitment without connection,” Jon said—and he's right. If your team's not committed to each other, they won't be committed to the mission. And when adversity hits, that's when the cracks show. We also touched on something every leader needs to hear: emotional fatigue. Carrying the weight of your business, your team, your family—it gets heavy. If you lose your why, you lose your fire. “The crime isn't that the passion ran out—it's that you stayed around after it did,” Jon shared. That line stopped me in my tracks. Leaders, you've got to reignite your mission or risk slowly fading out. Key Takeaways: The difference between having goals and living with commitment Why devotion—not discipline—creates lasting change How prayer and purposeful rituals can unlock creative breakthroughs The role of connection and love in high-performance teams How to lead through adversity without losing your energy or edge This one hit home for me on a personal level, and I know it will for you too.
