Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Christopher Carter break down the Panthers' 73-17 win over Youngstown State on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. What led to the most complete performance of the season for the Panthers and quarterback Eli Holstein? How has Holstein improved week to week? Why didn't star running back Desmond Reid play, and how did others like Derrick Davis Jr. and Daniel Carter perform in his absence? Has Kade Bell's offense found its stride? And on the defensive side of the ball, how far can Pitt linebackers like Kyle Louis and Brandon George take Randy Bates' unit? Our duo tackles those topics and more.
This mix builds on a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter. The first section of the mix is the duet album that I recorded with Daniel in winter 2023 in Brooklyn. The additional tracks speak to various sonic worlds that inspired energies at the recording session. The accompanying artwork is by Guillaume Vallée. This mix broadcast on Radio AlHara on August 4, 2024 on Radio AlHara in Palestine. All of us have had to give more thought to climate change and its effects in recent years. But to what degree have we yet reckoned with the way in which climate change may increase violence against children? Which children are most likely to be affected? What preventative measures can we take now to help mitigate that risk? And how should this knowledge shape our services to children and families, both now and in the future? We speak with Dr. Jorge Cuartas, assistant professor of applied psychology at New York University and senior consultant on violence against children at the World Bank.Topics in this episode:00:09 – Origin story03:13 – The strain on families and communities05:57 – Displaced families, family separation08:07 – Effect on marginalized communities12:02 – Slow violence and mental health18:45 – Anxiety, resilience, and climate change23:24 – Advice for policy makers27:10 – Advice for child abuse professionals34:11 – Future research39:10 – For more informationLinks:Jorge Cuartas, Ph.D., assistant professor of applied psychology at New York University; senior consultant on violence against children at the World Bank; co-director of the NGO Apapacho“Climate change is a threat multiplier for violence against children,” Jorge Cuartas, Amiya Bhatia, Daniel Carter, Lucie Cluver, Carolina Coll, Elizabeth Donger, Catherine E. Milwaukee Magazine once described Walter Minx as slender and fidgety, with, "the kind of sharp-featured handsomeness that the movies had taught people not to trust." He was German-born, and immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his parents, his brother, and his sister in 1925. He aspired to be a successful American businessman; he wanted to make a fortune -- and a name for himself. He did make a name for himself, but not quite the kind as he'd hoped for. On today's episode, It's Only Sport host Martin Devlin narrows his focus on two of New Zealand's favourite codes and the latest news and results in those respective sports. First, 81-test All Black Justin Marshall talks rugby's Six Nations, including Ireland beating France and red cards. Plus, ex-Black Cap Craig Cumming and South African cricket journalist Craig Marais talk about New Zealand's impending victory over the Proteas and the heroics of Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra, and Brendan Telfer reflects on Welsh rugby great Barry John who has passed away aged 79. John is widely regarded as one of the greatest fly-half's in rugby history, alongside the likes of Daniel Carter and Jonny Wilkinson. All that and much more!
This is the first in a series of 10 community arts recordings that I will be working on. These recordings aim to show the under-reported fabric of the arts within communities which are shaped by narratives and experiences which are under represented in mainstream political, cultural and economic spaces. I recorded the material you will hear on this first broadcast in Montreal. First you will hear Nizar Tabcharani playing Qanun at home and discussing the culture of the instrument. Nizar also speaks about the cultural landscape of Montreal that influences his current playing. Also you will hear a couple of songs and also the words of Nikczar Aguirre. Nikczar, who is a member of Migrante Canada and has worked with the Immigrant Workers Centre, sings in both English and Tagalog. Also you will hear some jamming / experimentation that I did with musician Amir Amiri, playing santur, while I played keyboard. Thank you for listening. Track listing 01. Growing up in Dickinson right outside of Houston, Dr. Daniel Carter wasn't sure what his future held for him. Entering college as an undecided major, spending some of his time writing, and now a professor in the School of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dr. Carter never expected his journey to take him to San Marcos, Texas, where he's spent years teaching and inspiring students in journalism and beyond. Sam chats with Dr. Carter about his career path, his predictions of social media, and what advice he has for young creatives.

It's late one night in America, and two men are chasing tweakers from a local meth den. One escapee, James, gets away. The other, a girl, is set on fire by the men before they drive off. Meanwhile, local police chief Daniel Carter is asleep on the job, again, when he spots James crawling out of the woods, and transports him to the nearest medical facility, Marsh General, where he estranged wife Allison works as a nurse. The hospital is on the verge of closing after a fire took out most of it, and they're working with a skeleton crew: besides Allison, there are two nurses, Kim and Beverly; one doctor, the mysterious Richard Powell; and only two patients, Cliff and pregnant Maggie. It's upon Daniel's arrival that the world tilts on its axis: strange robe-clad figures emerge from the forest, Beverly is caught performing impromptu surgery on Cliff, and Maggie goes into labor. What happens from here defies logic, description and expectation, but as Daniel and Allison determine to face down the wickedness that comes their way, they soon find themselves enmeshed in a plot that goes way beyond medical science, and maybe, beyond the reaches of time and space itself. Locked On Pitt - Daily Podcast On University of Pittsburgh Panthers Football & Basketball
The Pitt Football team has five talented running backs in Izzy Abanikanda, Rodney Hammond, Vincent Davis, C'Bo Flemister, and Daniel Carter. How could the running back rotation work out? And why should Abanikanda still be the lead back? Rodney Hammond talked about improving on his receiving game throughout the offseason. Just how good could Hammond be in his Sophomore year? Notre Dame transfer C'Bo Flemister is impressing Andre Powell and the Pitt coaching staff. How could he carve out a role in the offense? Vincent Davis gets a lot of flak around the Pitt fanbase, but he should not be counted out. How can Frank Cignetti's offense mold itself to Davis as a whole? Daniel Carter might be the odd man out, but he should still have a role on the offense. What could Cignetti have in mind? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Pitt - Daily Podcast On University of Pittsburgh Panthers Football & Basketball
Pitt Football saw running back Daniel Carter stand out in a big way during the Spring and the Spring Game. However, with three running backs in Israel Abanikanda, Vincent Davis, and Rodney Hammond, how can Carter find any playing time within the rotation? Is there any room for him to try and get the playing time he seeks outside of the fullback position? If Carter is to get playing time with his physicality and special quickness for his size, how will that affect the rest of the running backs? Could we see specific sets where two running backs are on the field? Could we see a more fluid rotation with all of these guys? Then, Eric Kasperowicz is leaving Pitt as a volunteer assistant and heading back to the high school coaching ranks in the WPIAL. What effect does the loss of Kasperowicz have on the staff? Could there be a Mars to Pitt pipeline building? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. When you think about Alternative music Oxymorrons undoubtedly come to mind. The New York-based boundary-pushers have made a name for themselves in the spirit of change - building a movement from years of being told they were too rock for hip-hop, too hip-hop for rock. They boldly committed to creating music that defies arbitrary rules of classification, cementing the band as early pioneers of the modern genre-blending revolution and receiving co-signs from Billboard, The Fader, Complex, VIBE, Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, Ebro Darden's Beats 1. As the newest addition to Jason Aalon Butler's (Fever 333) Artist Collective ‘333 Wreckords Crew', Oxymorrons expanded their sound with their first releases under the collective, “Justice" and “GREEN VISION”. they're finally getting the recognition they deserve in the Alt-Scene with support from Kerrang!, Revolver, Discover Mag, Hot Topic and BBC1's Jack Sanders & Daniel Carter. Although 2020 was the year of the pandemic Oxymorrons solidified their base, finished a EP, Booked Two US TOURS and are in prime position to bring the noise in 2022. Oxymorrons will be playing Welcome to Rockville in May 2022!
