Based on Dan's incredible director and producer credits, you'd never guess that he was once an introverted engineering student. From dropping out of school to doing an apprenticeship with film editor Susan Booth, Dan chalks up his success to dumb luck, curiosity and daring to take risks. Dan's directing credits include Game of Thrones, True Detective, NYPD Blue, Better Call Saul, HBO's The Leftovers, The Servant, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire and Ozark. He has executive produced or produced Jack Ryan, House M.D. and Emmy nominated Lovecraft Country. Miami Vice was among Dan's first projects. He was associate producer and music supervisor at a time when using popular music in film was still a relatively new concept. His first directing job was for a pilot episode of Law & Order - the game changing TV show that went from being turned down by every network to setting the tone for procedurals on network television! Why did Dan almost turn down his first directing gig? Why does he not like to direct more than 3 seasons of any TV show? Why did he suggest that Ozark sync the song “She's Got a Mind” by Natural Child? Tune in to the podcast to find out! Dan Sackheim Website IMDB LinkedIn Contact Music. This week we are packing up our knapsacks and taking the camper out to Lake Okobogee to discuss “Conduit”, which was definitely filmed in flat, flat Iowa and not the pine-ridden landscape of British Columbia. Ignore the mountainous hills in the background of the shot and you'll be fine. We're talking new info on Samantha Mulder's disappearance, the power of slideshows, Daniel Sackheim's cinematic directing, the danger of papercut slices on your eyeballs, visiting shady network TV biker bars, the Twin Peaks vibes, and how much we want to pet wild coyotes. We also unexpectedly catch some feelings about hypnosis regression tapes. We want to believe :(Send us an email at scullynationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Twitter and Instagram!

In this quickie TV show review, Raul and Jason talk about the HBO Max original, Lovecraft Country. Based on Matt Ruff's novel of the same name, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he meets up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. Lovecraft Country is executive produced by showrunner Misha Green along with J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Bill Carraro, Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim, and David Knoller. Dan Sackheim has become a go-to director for television in Hollywood, directing episodes of Game of Thrones, Ozark, Better Call Saul, True Detective, The Leftovers and other major shows. He joins Alan Schaller and Christopher Hooton to discuss the specific set of skills required for TV, how budget worries remain even when you're shooting a show the size of GoT, and how his passion for photography intersects with his day job in moving images.
Admir and Chris break down the latest episode of the series. In what was a return to form following last week's sloppy episode, Daniel Sackheim brings back the show's grittines, dark atmosphere and eeriness with great bravado. The boys discuss how he manages to execute that and hypothesize how the season will be brought to an end.
Joanna Robinson and Richard Lawson discuss "The Final Country" the seventh and penultimate episode of the third season of True Detective, HBO's mystery anthology series. More of the mystery unravels through all three time periods. Amelia makes some important discoveries while researching for her book. An argument breaks apart a partnership. A secret in the woods. This week's interview features director Daniel Sackheim, who directed four of the eight episodes this season including "The Final Country" Learn more about your ad choices. Joanna Robinson and Richard Lawson discuss "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" the second episode of the third season of True Detective, HBO's mystery anthology series. Directed by Daniel Sackheim, Hays recalls his early romance with Amelia, as well as cracks in their relationship that surfaced after they married; ten years after the Purcell crimes, new evidence emerges, giving Hays a second chance to vindicate himself and the investigation. This episode includes an interview with Ray Fisher, who plays Detective Hays' son Henry in the 2015 timeline. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The overall quality of season 6 tilts upward in this pair of episodes from GoT rookie Daniel Sackheim. Or perhaps the show has just resettled into a new normal. Either way, Our Heroes are reborn in these two episodes, signaling the start of the endgame. Arya gets a training montage, Bran's training is slow going, and Robin Arryn's training is halted when Littlefinger shows up with a cool bird. There's honestly too many character check-ins to rattle them off here, so listen in and grab those frequent flier miles*. *Frequent flier miles good for all Westerosi destinations except Dorne. Don't go to Dorne.
