Hey there! Ever wondered what wine your favorite characters from Game of Thrones would sip on during their downtime? In this wild and witty episode, we're diving into just that with a fun sidebar conversation! Join us as we hilariously match the iconic personalities of Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Cersei Lannister, and more to wines that capture their essence. Whether it's a cozy Pinot Noir for everyone's favorite brooding hero or a sharp Gruner-Veltliner for the fierce Mother of Dragons, there's something for every Westerosi palate. And we don't stop there! We chat about Tyrion's potential switch from wine aficionado to scotch sipper and even ponder what ancient wine would befit Drogon's fiery nature. It's all in good fun, so grab a glass, sit back, and let's toast to the Seven Kingdoms together!

He thinks that between the sailors and Mopatis' servants the word is already out. But his host is confident of their discretion. Tyrion is doubtful. Tyrion tries to unearth Mopatis' true motivations in helping Daenerys Targaryen regain the Iron Throne. The Pentosi claims that he just wants to help the young girl he fell in love with, that he was promised a Westerosi lordship and the role of Master of Coin. None of that convinces Tyrion. They're headed east toward the Rhoyne, where Tyrion will go south by river to Volantis. There Mopatis expects he'll rendezvous with Daenerys and her growing army. In Westeros, when you're here, you're family. Oh, wait, that's The Olive Garden. But we're talking about families this week, and, like most things in Westeros, being part of a family is generally not a great time for anyone in this world. Certainly not as fun as having dinner at The Olive Garden. We look specifically at the Targaryen family and some possible historical inspirations for this mythical dynasty. The blonde dragon people share some interesting similarities with the Egyptian Pharoahs and the Ptolemeic dynasty, as well as the infamously inbred Habsburgs. Just how inbred were the Habsburgs? Surprisingly, not as much as the Targaryens, and we have a geneticist's Tweet to prove it. Then we look at families on more of relational level, discussing the psychology concept of attachment theory as it relates to our favorite Westerosi families. Does anyone in this world have a secure attachment style? You are probably not surprised to hear that the answer is no. We also of course have another installment of Wig Watch for you (see the wigs discussed on our Instagram), and we've got some recommendations in What Are We Watchin'. Join us next time to talk about politics and religion, yay! Further Reading: Historical connections to the Targaryens Real royal families and House of the Dragon How inbred is Daenerys Targaryen? After that, we get into Aegon and his drunk interactions with his dragon Sunfyre, Aemond and Crispon Cole's shadow council, and the insanely obnoxious council of Rhaenyra. We spend the majority of the time discussing, you guessed it, DRAGONS! Rhaenys and Meleys, Aegon and Sunfyre, and Aemond and Vhagar. All meeting above the Battle of Rook's Rest in one of the most epic sequences to grace the screens of Westerosi fans across the world. We discuss the beautiful shots, the painful moments, the heartbreak, and the repercussions of the episode. And naturally, we spend a good amount of time on the Queen Who Never Was and the Red Queen herself...two legends who absolutely elevated this series from their first appearances, take a bow Rhaenys Targaryen and Meleys. /SALUTE All of this and MORE!00:00 - HotD Episode 3 BRIEF Thoughts14:05 - Episode 4 Summary15:50- Episode 4 Discussion51:20 - Episode 5 Expectations + Dragon Talk Follow us on social media:Twitter/Instagram/TikTok: @whysosidiouspodYouTube: www.youtube.com/@whysosidiouspod?app=desktopEmail us questions/requests: whysosidious@yahoo.comSubscribe, Rate, and Review!Send us your questions/comments!Support the Show.

Firstly... I'm so sorry. This recording was SUCH a pain in the backside to edit. The audio was awful and all attempts to improve it made it worse AND made it harder to cut out things I normally save you from hearing, such as chair noises, page turns, clattering pens... There is a section of weird noises I left in, but that was because it was funny. The problem is fixed so next time better (if not normal lol) service will be resumed.Secondly, here is the latest episode! Beth and Stef cover A Time Of Testing, when Jaehaerys finally gets to be an actual King and get on with the job of Kinging. He has to sort shit out at the Red Keep. Also make sure everything is good with The Faith because, oopsy, he accidentally married his sister and Westerosi people haven't historically been into that. In addition, he's got step-daddy from hell and treasonous-bro-in-chief, Rogar Baratheon to sort out once and for all, plus empty royal coffers (new Targ house words: No Money, Mo' Problems) and a prodigal sister that turns up needing a place to stay.Oh, also, my bad: I keep saying Yandel wrote Fire And Blood. It's not. It's really, really not. It's GYLDAYNE. FFS. I have self-flagellated (ooh errr) and vow never to make that mistake again! After all that, enjoy the episode!Love from,Stef and Beth

This mid-season chapter of House of the Dragon brings us to one of the oldest Game of Thrones traditions, a wedding ending in bloody death and despair. Before arriving at its inevitably dark conclusion, "We Light the Way," begins with the introduction and death of Daemon's wife, Lady Rhea Royce, a transactional marriage proposal between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon in the Driftmark, Ser Criston Cole goes rogue due to a broken heart, and a new grudge forged between Alicent Hightower and the rest of the King's inner circle. What could the latest Westerosi wedding spell for the seven kingdoms?  Today's podcast topics include: Our initial review of "We Light the Way" What the latest bloody Westerosi wedding could mean for Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon How many episodes does King Viserys Targaryen have left before his inevitable death? Daemon's latest play and whether it will amount to a successful grander scheme How the Strong family is sewing doubts between Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower What we expect to see in episode 6, "The Princess and the Queen."  According to the IMDB synopsis, “We Light the Way” is described as: “Daemon visits his wife in the Vale. Viserys and Rhaenyra broker agreements with the Velaryons. Alicent seeks the truth about the princess.” Continue the conversation Listen and rate us on Spotify Subscribe, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts Email questions to castbeyondthewall@live.com Like the official The Cast Beyond Wall Facebook Page Follow The Cast Beyond the Wall on Twitter @Cast_Beyond_GoT

Westerosi law gives a male heir precedence over a female, regardless their birth order and Viserys is chosen. Nine years into King Visery I's reign, the Triarchy, an alliance formed by the free cities of Essos, threatens the kingdom, wanting to seize the Stepstones region. Viserys must also restrain his brother Daemon's brutality as the City Watch commander in King's Landing. James and Ender discuss the pilot episode The Heirs of the Dragon HBO's new Original series House of the Dragon. Overview: With both his sons dead and the succession undecided, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen convenes a Great Council for the Westerosi lords to select a future ruler. Jaehaerys' eldest grandson, Prince Viserys, is chosen over his eldest grandchild, Princess Rhaenys. Nine years into his reign, Viserys organizes a tournament to celebrate Queen Aemma Arryn's pregnancy, confident she will give birth to a male heir. The Small Council disregards Master of Ships Lord Corlys Velaryon's warning that the Triarchy, an alliance of Essos' Free Cities, threatens to cripple Westerosi shipping lanes. Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, criticizes Viserys's brother and heir, Prince Daemon, for his brutality as the City Watch commander. At the tournament, Ser Criston Cole, a common-born Dornish knight, outcompetes Daemon, while Aemma dies in childbirth, her son, Baelon, dying shortly after. Viserys refuses the council's pleas to anoint a new heir until Ser Otto reveals that Daemon mockingly styled Baelon as, "The Heir for a Day." Outraged, Viserys banishes Daemon from King's Landing and anoints his only living child, Princess Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne. Episode Director: Miguel Sapochnik Episode Writter: Ryan Condal

Set nearly 200 years before they did my girl Dany dirty (I'm not interested in arguing with you about this), House of the Dragon is follows the events in George RR Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood — the first of two volumes detailing the rise and fall of the Targaryen dynasty. Because the show begins at the halfway point of volume one, we don't get to see Aegon and his sister-wives bring Westeros to heel. Instead, we're in the year 101 A.C. when King Jaehaerys I names his grandson Viserys the Prince of Dragonstone and rightful heir to the Iron Throne. This sets off decades of betrayal and infighting (and incest) that culminates in the infamous Dance of the Dragons. As odd as it sounds, it felt good to be back in this world of political machinations, tragic pregnancies, violent jousting, and dragons. Oh, so many dragons. Sarah and I discussed the season premiere, providing a bit of Westerosi history along the way.

It's been a minute, hasn't it? Andrew and Manu are back on the podcast airwaves for the first since, well, a pandemic began to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the premiere of "Game of Thrones" on HBO. Personal lives have prevented the podcast from returning in full (though we still hope to eventually!), but we had a lot of fun taking 75 minutes to look back on how we first got into "Thrones," and many more topics -- favorite moments, episodes, and castings & characters. We also took some time to discuss how we've reckoned with the most frustrating aspects of the end of the series, and how we hope that audiences don't dismiss so many good memories from the show just because of its conclusion. Not everything's about "sticking the landing." At the end, we look toward the future and all the prequel possibilities in the works, most notably "House of the Dragon," which will come to a Home Box Office near you in 2022. Wherever there be dragons (or even just Westerosi lore), we will follow. Manu has a new Metal Gear Solid podcast, Podcast Sans Frontieres! Daenerys and the khalasar have made it to Vaes Dothrak. Daeny plans a night evening with her brother that goes very awry. We also get Jorah's take on how the Dothraki would do in battle in Westeros. We tell you all about it and give you as many insights as we can pack into one episode. Plus, Simon shares a story that might just put a smile on your face. Chapter Review: Daenerys Targaryen, her brother Viserys, Ser Jorah Mormont, and the rest of Khal Drogo's khalasar have finally made it to Vaes Dothrak, the lone Dothraki city. Daeny is surprised to see how big, but sparse, the city is. We learn that Viserys is about out of patience waiting for his promised 10,000 Dothraki warriors that he was promised for Daeny's hand in marriage. We also find out that Ser Jorah seems to have no respect left for his supposed king. Jorah tells Daeny that the Dothraki have the advantage against a Westerosi army in the field, but would not be able to sustain a siege. The question is whether Robert would be smart enough to utilize the advantage of the castles, or if he would rush to meet the Dothraki in battle. When Daeny is told Khal Drogo will be away their first evening in the city, she plans a nice dinner with her brother, where she plans to present him gifts of traditional Dothraki clothing. Things go wrong when Viserys thinks Daeny has commanded him to her, and get worse when he sees her gifts. A heated sibling dispute ensues, leaving Daeny sad and bruised and Viserys furious and bleeding from his face. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Daenerys Targaryen - Khaleesi to a Dothraki khalasar and younger sister to Viserys. Viserys Targaryen - Deposed heir to the Iron Throne. Ser Jorah Mormont - Exiled knight from Westeros. Sworn sword to Viserys Targaryen. Khal Drogo - The leader of a large Dothraki khalasar. Husband to Daenerys Targaryen. Daenerys completes phase 1 of her protracted marriage to Khal Drogo. Receives some pretty rocking wedding presents. The chaps discuss it all in light of the #metoo movement. Mackelly rashly insults Jason Momoa. And a special guest contributes to a new crop of outtakes. Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen marries Khal Drogo in Pentos in a wild Dothraki ceremony. She receives gifts of three new handmaidens to help her with the transition from slightly sheltered princess, to horse-riding, Dothraki-talking, Drogo-loving Khaleesi. She gets Westerosi books from Jorah Mormont, now pledged to the Targaryen cause. Three petrified dragon eggs from Illyrio Mopatis. And a wonderful horse from Khal Drogo. Viserys wants to cut the ceremony short to go invade Westeros, but wiser heads prevail (by basically ignoring him). The consummation of the marriage is marginally less awful than Daeny anticipated, as Drogo proves himself to be something of a romantic, with a degree of tenderness that he certainly hides from the khalasar. Characters/Places/Names/Events Daenerys Targaryen - The stormborn daughter of Mad King Aerys. Now Khaleesi of a Dothraki tribe.Viserys Targaryen  - Brother to Daeny, claims the Westerosi throne.Khal Drogo - Leader of the largest Dothraki khalasar.Jorah Mormont - An exiled knight of Westeros, now pledged to the Targaryen cause. Illyrio Mopatis - The wealthy host of the Targaryens. Bloodriders - Khal Drogo's bodyguards Haggo, Cohollo and Qotho. Handmaidens - Irri, Jhiqui, and Doreah. Vaes Dothrak - The spiritual home of the Dothraki. Dosh Khaleen - A council of widowed Khaleesis in Vaes Dothrak who guide the Dothraki with visions and predictions. Support the podcast.
