Critically-acclaimed Andor has returned. Politically sophisticated and emotionally bracing, Tony Gilroy's Star Wars series about the birth of a rebellion has returned for a second and final season. Does it live up to its first season's incredible highs and adult-minded storytelling? We discuss and review the show, its odd release schedule, and where it ranks within the shaky Star Wars canon.

The critically acclaimed second season of the Star Wars saga, "Andor" tells the backstory of the forming of the Rebel Alliance. Created by Tony Gilroy, it stars Stellan Skarsgard as the duplicitous rebel leader. Both Gilroy and Skarsgard discuss the show.
Want to let us know if you agree or have a "hot take" about our show or a burning Star Wars topic, hit the Holonet and send us a text!In episode 195 of The Force Geeks: A Star Wars Podcast, Nate, Jake, and Chris dive into a spoiler-filled breakdown of Episodes 4 through 6 of Andor Season 2. Cassian infiltrates Ghorman under the alias “Varian Skye,” playing the long game while the Empire manipulates the narrative with a propaganda machine led by Director Krennic. Meanwhile, Mon Mothma walks a dangerous political tightrope, and Saw Gerrera's tragic origin story adds emotional weight to his radicalism. The Geeks also unpacks the brutal, emotionally charged moment when Bix takes justice into her own hands, the devastating loss of a key rebel, and the tense power dynamics brewing between Dedra, Syril, and the always-imperious Eedy. These episodes dig deep into the cost of rebellion — physically, psychologically, and morally — and we're here to break it all down.***The views expressed in this show are those of the hosts and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the United States Air Force, the Department of Defense, or the U.S. Government.***
In the second season of Disney+'s hit series, ANDOR, Cassian (Diego Luna) has taken up the mantle of responsibility in the battle against Imperial dominance. Even so, every move that he makes is being watched. As the stakes rise, Andor's allegiance will be tested in a world of betrayal. After all, as it inches closer to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, this is a world of growing evil and the evolution of a rebellion. In this 1on1, we speak to stars Stellan Skarsgard and Genevieve O'Reilly about humanity in space and the nature of freedom.

We're back to talk about ANOTHER prequel to The Exorcist (afilm so nice they had to tell the origin twice), but fortunately, this week Mike and Stephen are here to talk about the good one. Yes indeed, this week we're here to talk about the most expensive DVD feature of all time, the completedvision of Paul Schrader's Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. It's the Gallant to Harlin's Goofy, and as one might expect from a Schrader jam, it's a contemplative rumination on man's fallibility and culpability with regards toevil. It's certainly not the rock ‘em sock ‘em straight forward horror movie Morgan Creek anticipated, leading to it being shelved for The Beginning. Perhaps a horror crowd that's been raised on the sort of character studies A24has delivered over the past decade would be more receptive to the quiet character drama and standout performance from its lead Stellan Skarsgard delivered as a conflicted Father Merrin. Ho Ho Ho Ho-ello there! It has come upon us once again: the Christmas season. And as was aforementioned, its getting darker. We must let you know that this was not planned... or our tolerance levels are so out of whack that we've blackened our souls and have detached ourselves from societal norms...Annnnyyyywwwaaaayyyyyy, there's nothing more Christmas-sy than Lars Von Trier! And this film; starring Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson, in her first film role, lets us know that we're in for a rough ride for a good 2 hours and 40 mins. Thankfully, it's all set on an "unnamed Scottish Isle" where everyone's accents are all over the place, the sideburns are "pure 70s", the medical equipment looks outdated, and it's all brown. And that means we're in the past.DESCEND INTO THE DARKNESS WITH US ALL!

The film, set in a small comminuty in the Scottish Highlands in the 1970s, tells the story of Bess McNeill, a simply, godly woman who marries outsider oil rig worker Jan. When Jan is paralyzed after a work accident, he compels Bess to take other lovers in order to "keep him alive"...a task which she steadily comes to believe has divine connotations. Shot in 35mm 'scope with the great Robby Muller behind the camera, the film is a visually staggering work broaching difficult subject matter in the realms of faith, sexuality, and patriarchy all rendered in Von Trier's singular tenor, equal parts brutal, earnest, and cheekily playful. We discuss the career of Von Trier, his work as a founding member of the Dogme95 collective, and the later period evolution of his storytelling. Then, we wrestle with the film's themes and execution of its ideas. Does the movie hold up for a longtime devotee and a newcomer alike? Finally, we try to make sense of Von Trier's oeuvre, and what - if anything - could be considered the trademarks of his style.Follow Liam Billingham on Twitter.Listen and subscribe to Die Hard On A Blank Podcast.Read & Subscribe to Peter Raleigh's Newsletter 'Long Library'. ....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish

Frank Herbert's original 1965 story, DUNE, was an astounding success. It has become one of America's great novels, and is beloved by science fiction fans. Most certainly apt to fit in with the space opera subset of speculative fiction, the book has been once again recently turned into a two part film series starting with director Denis Villeneuve's first in the pair DUNE: PART ONE (2021). Now he's back with the second, DUNE: PART TWO, that has been one of 2024's biggest successes. Rather than discuss the intricacies of the story, the movie stars an all-star cast. Timothee Chalamet plays the lead role of Paul Atreides who may or may not be a promised messianic hero. Also in the cast is Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, among many others.DUNE: PART TWO (2024) received glowing reviews from critics. With its theatrical success, Warner Brothers appears to have green lit the second book in Frank Herbert's series DUNE: MESSIAH. Dark Discussions takes a look at this new film and gives their thoughts.

The Dune books by Frank Herbert are widely said to be impossible to make into movies or shows. However, a few have tried and the latest is director Denis Villeneuve with, first, his Dune Part One film in 2021 and now Dune Part Two. Overwhelmingly, the consensus is that Villeneuve succeeded beautifully with his first Dune film in introducing movie audiences to the world of Dune. Now we get his Part Two which continues the story of Paul Atreides, who is royalty, but also could be the most powerful being in the entire universe someday. What will he do with this power? Will he engage in good to help out the people of the universe or will his power end up killing billions of people? Dune is also about Paul's alliance with the people of the planet Arrakis, known as the Fremen. We also see his battle against his enemies, the Harkonnens and the Emperor. Is Dune Part Two entertaining as it tells this complex, twisted tale? Check out this show to find out. Dune Part Two stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Lea Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgard and Charlotte Rampling. Join the crew as we tackle the incredibly epic sci-fi sequel, Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two! Did this movie meet our expectations, and was it better than Part One? We discuss all of our initial thoughts and theater experiences before diving into the movie. We get into all the amazingly detailed world of the Fremen, discuss Paul's relationship with Chani and his "hero" journey as he rises to become the Lisan al-Gaib, and ponder whether we should be rooting for Paul or not right now. Outside of The Fremen, we get into new aspects of the story such as The Emperor, and our visit to the Harkonnen homeworld, Giedi Prime. We discuss the creative decisions made for this planet, as well as the thrilling performance of Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. Finally, we discuss that INSANE third act and where we think the story could go from here. Also, we hype ourselves up to read the book and plan a future episode comparing Denis' work to Frank Herberts original vision!Scored by Hans Zimmer and starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Stellan Skarsgard, and more…this movie has all the workings of a historic epic, and we had a blast talking about it.ENJOY!02:15 - Initial Reactions of Dune: Part Two06:45 - Quick Summary09:45 - The Emperor and Princess Irulin14:20 - The Fremen and Sietch Tabr25:35 - Chani and Paul's Journey to become Fremen + Riding the Worm40:35 - The Harkonnens and Geidi Prime47:25 - Gurneys Return and the Trip South54:35 - Paul Becomes the Messiah1:01:00 - The Final Battle and the Holy War1:26:40 - Final Thoughts and 1-10 Rating + Gripes w/ the MovieFollow us on social media:Twitter/Instagram/TikTok: @whysosidiouspodYouTube: www.youtube.com/@whysosidiouspod?app=desktopEmail us questions/requests: whysosidious@yahoo.comSubscribe, Rate, and Review!

Since we are apparently still several years away from the next Star Wars or Star Trek movie on the big screen, director Denis Villeneuve has given us the next best thing....or maybe something even better? :) This long-awaited sequel to the Oscar nominated sci-fi blockbuster Part 1 picks up EXACTLY where the previous film left off.....Paul (Timothee Chalomet) and Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) now venturing on the desert planet of Arrakis (otherwise known as Dune) with the Fremen tribe lead by Javier Bardem's Stilgar while also becoming getting more acquainted with Chani played by Zendaya. And of course a burgeoning war begins to escalate with the Harkonnens who have violently taken over the desert planet lead by the Baron played by Stellan Skarsgard. Also including in this stacked cast are Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, Dave Baustista, and Austin Butler. Step into the shadowy realm of Not A Bomb podcast, where we usually dissect the celluloid carcasses of the biggest cinematic misfires, searching for a glimmer of redemption. Emphasis on "usually," for this time around, one of our own sleuths botched the job, opting for a flick that wasn't just a cash cow but a darling of both critics and the masses. In this Noirvember rendezvous, the fellas welcome back Josh from The VHS Files, delving into the foggy alleys of 2011's neo-noir opus - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Adapted from Stieg Larsson's tome and the 2009 rendition, this remake might just be the elusive phoenix that eclipses its predecessor. Maestro David Fincher paints a chiaroscuro masterpiece against the icy backdrop of Scandinavia, weaving a dark tapestry of neo-noir intrigue.Tune in as the crew navigates the labyrinth of why this film is so explosive, discovering along the way that our host, Brad, is a bit hazy on the premise of his own show. Witness accountability in the dim glow of the studio lights as they unravel the enigma of choices made in the noir shadows. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) is directed by David FIncher and stars Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard, Steven Berkoff, Robin Wright, Yorick van Wageningen, and Joely Richardson. Maddie and Colleen join Caitlin to cover Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool. We look at themes of wealth, privilege, hedonism, exploitative tourism, and ethics. But most importantly, we relish the opportunity to do impressions of Mia Goth's deranged baby voice and discuss Skarsgard on a leash. Tangents include: Colleen's delightful fixations, Caitlin's borderline unhealthy obsession with her friends, Maddie's trip to FRAHHHNCE, Culkins vs Skarsgards, board game failures (oopsie), celebrity hair, fantasy pets, sandwiches, bird poop, deer, cryptids, bigfoot erotica, cosplay, eye rolling, Swifties/Gaylors, infinity pools, scary insects, clones, favorite meals, and friendship love fests. Shoutout to AC for being the question MVP this episode. Be sure to check out My Cryptid's Keeper and Roll 4 Improv. We were just being silly gooses, your honor!
It's summer, it's disgustingly hot outside, and the local beaches and pools are overcrowded. So what better way to beat the heat during Shark Week than to kick back at home with this shlocky underwater thriller? Well besides the original Jaws of course……Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, The Long Kiss Goodnight) directed this and it features an extensive cast including Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, LL Cool J, Stellan Skarsgard, and Samuel L. Jackson.....who has one VERY memorable scene which you might know about. It all centers around a small band of scientists and technicians who are trapped within a very large aquatic facility which is slowly sinking into the ocean. Only they're not alone.....there also happen to be three VERY smart genetically-enhanced sharks who are apparently trying to eat then. :o And water-soaked chaos ensues!Host: Geoff Gershon Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
