Happy Monday, Film Friends! One of the highlights of the 2024 Sherman Oaks Film Festival was the film “Allure” from animators Jerry van de Beek and Betsy De Fries. This real life couple founded Little Fluffly Clouds (https://www.littlefluffyclouds.com), an award- winning Bay Area production studio specializing in high-end motion graphics and animation in all forms. Their work is fantastic in every way and it should come as no surprise that a conversation with them is as enjoyable as watching their films. I nearly did not mention that “Allure” took home the Filmmakers Award for Outstanding Short Film - Animation as well as the Filmmakers Award for Outstanding Direction - Animation for its co-directors Jerry & Betsy. I hope you're ready for a fascinating conversation about filmmaking, animation, and pets. And I hope you enjoy listening to this half as much as I enjoyed recording it! @little_fluffy_clouds _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Discover Indie Film Podcast Links DIF Podcast Website - DIF Instagram - DIF BlueSky Discover Indie Film Foundation (nonprofit for the arts) Links DIF Foundation - Sherman Oaks Film Festival - Film Invasion Los Angeles
Happy Monday, Film Friends! That's right, we are trying on a Mon-Wed-Fri schedule because we have so many exciting talks to share with you all! Brazilian filmmaker Tôka wrote and directed the film “Nauru,” a remarkable film that took home the Grand Jury Award for Best Featurette, Sci-Fi at Film Invasion Los Angeles 2024. In fact, the film took home five awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Supporting Performer. “Nauru” is a proof of concept for a feature script that Tôka wrote, which is good news because the world he created in “Nauru” deserves to be explored much further. Tôka lives in London today and hopped onto Zoom to have this conversation with me. After seeing a film as well-written and visually stunning as “Nauru,” I had been looking forward to this talk for most of 2024. We managed to get on Zoom together in December and now you get to listen to it in 2025! We don’t talk about our fears, actually, but we do talk about Dashboard Confessional’s The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most & the 1996 psychological thriller Fear. We’re joined by our first repeat guest Matt Bailey from Film Friends for the second (and final, for now) installment of our Dashboard spree. Stay tuned for Chris Carrabba’s net worth – you might be shocked to find out what it is. Joey hates on the music yet again and Tyler briefly goes off about his clock. Like the rest of the cast of the movie, we’re all pretty h*rny for the guy from CSI. We try to dissect Wahlberg’s motive as well as his age in this and keep a count of how many necks get snapped. Whatever you do, don’t go to Wahlburgers. Whine & Cheese: A Podcast About Whiny Records and Cheesy Movies began in Spring 2018. It is a love letter to all things whiny and cheesy from Rites of Spring to Hawthorne Heights, Varsity Blues to Fifty First Dates, and everything in between. Listen as the trio of Joey Breeding, Mike Paulshock, and Tyler Smith mix and match two of life’s great audio and visual pleasures. Twitter and Instagram. Whine & Cheese – Episode 17: This week we’re joined by Philly podcast veteran, special guest of Film Friends and co-host of Strange Nerve, Matt Bailey. His picks were Boys Night Out’s “tightly-knit concept album that follows the loss of sanity of one man following the murder of his wife he committed in his sleep” Trainwreck & Judd Apatow’s John Cena vehicle Trainwreck. The record is a boastful 53 minutes long which drives Joey crazy. Tyler is inconsolable. We all ponder whether the boys of the band were theater kids along with fellow concept album offenders Armor For Sleep. Matt shares his grading system for every song & we soon adopt the same scoring system for the whole episode.
Whine & Cheese – Episode 16: We’re throwing a sweet 16 party this week. In addition to adding reccurring man-on-the-street, movie synopsis expert Tyler Smith as a permanent co-host of the show this week, we’ve also got special guest and fellow p-caster Kate Eingorn of Film Friends joining us to discuss her pairing of All Time Low’s The Party Scene and Can’t Hardly Wait. The website last.fm is brought up a lot, and Kate humbly brags about how many times she scrobbled a song from this album. Joey connects the dots between this band and his home state with yet another useless Delaware connection. Mike disrespects a Bear vs. Shark t-shirt for the sake of the podcast which sends Tyler down a rollercoaster of ideas for his trash bag of band shirts in his basement. The gang is pretty divided on the Whine this week but all seem to agree that the Cheese is a classic. They go together like Jason Segal and watermelon. Whine & Cheese – Episode 11: Joey and Mike bring on Jordan Smith of Film Friends to discuss Alkaline Trio’s Maybe I’ll Catch Fire alongside the Adam Sandler masterpiece Little Nicky. Why is it that Mike can only sing the Dan parts of the songs? Joey gets real hung up on Boxcar Racer stealing a riff and the inevitable Blink-182 connection because of it. Jordan clutches his DVD copy of the movie while they launch into a hot take about the Harlem Globetrotters. It’s Joey’s birthday so give him a gift and listen, won’t you?
