This book isn't just a coffee table dance photo, it is a book that explores the stories behind ballet dancers and reads like an entry point into what and who Gene saw and captured from behind his lens. You will not only discover insights into their careers, the creative process, and the inspiring stories of dancers' lives but while reading it, but be moved by each individual experience and journey. Listen also how Gene and Gavin's friendship and trust in each other's artistry enabled the stories to shine through and create this legacy for the dance world for generations.Gene Schiavone became interested in photography as a child.  With no formal training, he went on to become a sought after Dance Photographer. What began as a childhood curiosity became a budding career,  photographing some of the worlds best ballet dancers. Gene attributes his introduction to the world of ballet to his wife through her involvement with ABT (American Ballet Theater). His informal conversation with renowned ballerina ,Julie Kent, piqued his interest in the art form and he began to attend more ballet performances. Around that same time, Gene was given permission to photograph performances of ABT's studio company and after two years was invited to photograph the main company, which led to other requests for similar work.Gene's work and images includes Boston Ballet, Mariinsky Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet, Washington Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Atlanta Ballet and The Radio City Rockettes among others. His images have appeared New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and all the major dance publications both here and abroad.Gene continues to acknowledge his gratitude for all the dancers he has worked with over the years and for the hundreds of pairs of signed shoes and photos he remembers them by. Gavin Larsen, Born and raised in New York City, received her professional dance training at the School of American Ballet, the PacificNorthwest Ballet School and the New York School of Ballet. In 1992, she joined Pacific Northwest Ballet under the direction of Kent Stowell andFrancia Russell, leaving the company in 1999 to join the Alberta Ballet, directed by Mikko Nissinen. In 2002, she performed with the SuzanneFarrell Ballet as a soloist at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In 2003 Ms. Larsen joined Oregon Ballet Theatre as a principal dancerunder artistic director Christopher Stowell. Over the course of her career, Ms. Larsen danced prominent roles in ballets by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Christopher Wheeldon and Paul Taylor, among others, and originated roles in numerous ballets. She retired from performing in 2010 to focus on teaching, coaching and writing about dance. Ms. Larsen has taught and coached widely across the country and worldwide. She has been a regular contributor for Pointe, Dance Teacher, and Dance Spirit magazines. In 2015 she was honored with a fellowship to the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation inTaos, NM, to pursue her work as a writer. Today's discussion was recorded in August of 2025 between me, Nathan Greene, and our returning guest, Dr. Ansel Schiavone.Before we get into today's discussion, I have some updates for you all regarding the show. I have some bittersweet news to share: this is my final episode hosting the podcast. After 178 episodes, I, your host, Nathan Greene, am unfortunately moving on to a new role.I am an inherently curious person, and I love to learn through conversation. This podcast presented a unique opportunity for me to meet many people with interesting ideas and gain insight into how they perceive the world. While I didn't always agree with them, it was always a fascinating conversation nonetheless. I got to speak with thinkers I love, have read about, and even got to reconnect with some I had already met. Needless to say, it was an incredible opportunity.By the time you're hearing this, I will have already begun my new job. My last day with the Henry George School was September 14th, and this will be published shortly after. I hope you all loved listening to the podcast just as much as I enjoyed making it. The show will go on, though. While it may not be me behind the mic, the Henry George School will continue to put out the content you all come to love and expect. The show will be taking a break until next year. They will let you know ahead of time when the show will be back. Dr. Schiavone is an Assistant Professor at St. John's University where he teaches microeconomics, macroeconomics, and the economics of poverty and inequality. From rockstar to rock bottom… and back. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Gabey Schiavone devoted his life to music — touring the world as a recording artist across rock ‘n' roll, punk, and heavy metal. In 2012, he retired from the stage, moved to Utah, and dreamed of becoming a full-time family man.   Shortly after, he was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. Though he beat the cancer, he fell into a deep depression and developed a heavy addiction to prescription opioids during treatment. Over the next decade, his addiction cost him nearly everything — family, friends, shelter, and even the will to live.   But that wasn't the end of Gabey's story.   On August 1, 2023, he checked into treatment for the last time — fully surrendered, fully committed. Beneath the wreckage was still the passionate, driven artist with big dreams. And today, he's rebuilding a life of purpose, creativity, and hope.   Redemption is real. Recovery is possible. LKBH Adam DeMouy, WHW Monday's own special troll, is having us watch a couple of things, and wrote (at length): "...No Mercy 2007 - All 3 Triple H matches . The Game was in peak Game Mode during this time and wrestled 3 championship matches in 1 memorable night. The opening Promo where Vince is in the ring giving Randy Orton the wwe championship then The Games music hits and the son in law comes down to the ring to cut an amazing promo on Vinny Mac … Gets what he wants and capitalizes … What a celebration afterwards as JR busts a nut when The Game wins. But then Vince makes him wrestle 2 more matches vs Umaga ( who was a bum , just there cause he was Samoan ) then the main event vs Randy Orton in his prime again. What a match this was … This ppv was the best ppv wwe did in the late early 2000's … The next night on Raw, HBK came back to challenge Orton which was also a great feud. This was during Randy's peak legend killer phase. Also, I want Tony to relive the only match he personally ever gave 4 stars to on Nitro . Disco Inferno vs Chris Benoit US Championship Match. Nitro 8-16-99 . Disco cuts a promo before the match about being the only star in WCW then he goes down a fights Benoit in a match Schiavone really loved . It's only a 8 minute match. I personally talked with Disco Inferno and he holds this match in high regard and said it was his best match in WCW and he remembers the 4 stars Schiavone gave him on commentary for this match . It would be a personal favor to me ; the longest contributor to the WHW patreon page … just think when we started it was just me and about 8 other guys chatting with Tony in the Gwinnett Braves baseball booth or tuning into listening to Tony call baseball and being miserable to now being totally transformed into Nitro era Schiavone and being basically the VP of All Ego Wrestling….
