We’re returning from our break with Philadelphia’s own Brian Hexter and his pairing of Pedro The Lion’s Control & Adam Sandler’s Click. Despite not covering the movie The Cobbler this week, we talk about it a lot at the top of the episode. Parenthood, greed, commercialism, fear of death – we’re bringing you all that and more. Hexter watched a lot of 4/20 movies, to give you an idea of how long we’ve been sitting on this one. The movie has it all – racist characters, sexual harassment, homophobia, transphobia. Very 2006! We were all very excited to see Jonah Hill, though. We’ve gone too far, we’ve done too much. Don’t forget to rate/review/subscribe/email! We bring you another Z**m edition of the show this week and we’re joined by Max Davis to discuss My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade and Martin Lawrence’s Black Knight. There are a lot of influences shining through the album such as the Shrek soundtrack, acoustic Danzig covers, and Gogol Bordello. Joey suspects Tyler will like it… will he? We dedicate a decent portion of the show to discovering the wonders of PlutoTV while our guest heavily critiques Martin’s swag. Come one, come all to this tragic affair! This week we’re bringing you a not-so-lost episode that was recorded a few months ago. It features Name Taken’s Hold On & 1993’s action-thriller Cliffhanger. We start off with Joey talking about Green Day a little too much and Tyler sneezing A LOT (don’t worry). It’s righteously awesome, rocktastic as a matter of fact… rockin out… We also accidentally hint at our next episode coming in two weeks. The album is met with mixed reviewers from our Whiners and Mike accidentally starts the war on anime. We later play one of the most challenging games of IMDB tags. I would also like to apologize for all of our Stallone impressions. Thanks for holding on! This week we were finally able to get friend of the show Taylor Madison (Webbed Wing, Strange Nerve Podcast, Superheaven) to talk The Lemonheads’ It’s A Shame About Ray & 2000’s John Cusack classic High Fidelity. Find out which of the gang wasn’t invited to the doomsday prepper group before we switch over to talking the vagueness of the “emo” genre. Mike goes on for awhile about a certain musician’s torso & Tay tells us about how he listened to only Throwdown for an entire year. We’re split 50/50 about this week’s cheese and how no one in the movie is even remotely likable despite playing a game of FMK with the main characters. Don’t forget to rate/review/subscribe/email! We talk Piebald’s We Are The Only Friends We Have and 1997’s Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion with friend of the show Alec Burris. All you really need to know about this one is that Joey reads off his social security number right off the top. After that, we take a deep dive into Alec’s emo history and run through all of the Piebald members nicknames. Joey sheds some light on the Kaiju Big Battel x Piebald connection and accidentally watched a lot of snake hatching videos while doing research for this episode. Mike challenges the rest of us to spell Janeane Garofalo and we all get into which groups of weirdos we hung out with in high school (“the Piebald demographic”). Gallagher really has nothing to do with this episode at all, but we do talk about him a lot. For that very reason Joey is no longer allowed to have a laptop while we record. Even without it he gets really hung up on the song from Rent. In between all of that, our pairing this week is Into It. Over It.’s Intersections and the 2001 thriller Joyride in a very unscripted edition of W&C. It’s been awhile since we’ve recorded so Tyler is practically bursting to tell us about his great idea about Blur’s “Song 2”. Mike reveals some archival footage about an interaction between Tyler & Evan Weiss from Into It. Over It. We each do our best Rusty Nail impression from the movie this week – feel free to send us yours as well. Gallagher comes up several more times; so much that I’ve lost count. We don’t talk about our fears, actually, but we do talk about Dashboard Confessional’s The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most & the 1996 psychological thriller Fear. We’re joined by our first repeat guest Matt Bailey from Film Friends for the second (and final, for now) installment of our Dashboard spree. Stay tuned for Chris Carrabba’s net worth – you might be shocked to find out what it is. Joey hates on the music yet again and Tyler briefly goes off about his clock. Like the rest of the cast of the movie, we’re all pretty h*rny for the guy from CSI. We try to dissect Wahlberg’s motive as well as his age in this and keep a count of how many necks get snapped. Long time friend of the show Will Hochgertel joins us this week to discuss Dashboard Confessional’s The Swiss Army Romance and the surreal journey of Swiss Army Man. Tyler reveals that he has a playlist called “Party Time.” What do you think is on it? We debate the meaning of D-board’s name seeing as how our man Chris C. is a man of the cloth, so we go straight to the source and call him up. Joey can’t remember the name of a popular children’s show (JJ The Jet Plane) while Tyler does extensive research on a clock he owns & talks about diner pancakes. Mike tries desperately to get us back on track as always, so Joey tries to buy his silence with $10. We talk about the movie, too, I swear. It’s basically Fight Club with Harry Potter. Mike challenged Joey to a kick contest, so we decided to settle the score & discuss Sundials’ Kick along with 3 Ninjas Kick Back this week. We have a bit of a mystery guest this week, who requested that their identity be kept secret but is a card-carrying member of some kind of Cousin Danny’s fan club. Joey flaunts how many duckets he spends on the Dark Thoughts bandcamp while we record. We love a good 3-piece (in this case, later turned 4-piece) band like Sundials, so they get the W&C seal of approval. During the break we get super winded from our kick contest, but we’ll leave it up to you to decide who the winner is. Our movie this week is a favorite of a certain North Korean politician. The ninjas’ grandpa (fka EGG SHEN) is more nimble than probably Joey and Mike combined and one of his grandsons (Rocky) looks exactly like friend of the show Mark M. (as heard on Episode 22). With thunder comes lightning and this week we’re covering Indian Summer’s discography Giving Birth To Thunder along with the Tom Cruise vehicle (hehe) Days Of Thunder. In true fashion of staying on track, we talk about eye infections for most of the intro. We are all very disappointed with Rolling Stone’s top 40 emo records list before beefing hard with the word “scrobble.” The album makes Tyler so uncomfortable this week that Mike talks his shoes off for him, completely unlacing them in the process. Good news: it helped. We go off track and listen to Her Space Holiday, which sounds like a combination of Black Eyed Peas & The Postal Service. The gang also tries to figure out how Nascar works, Tyler is the best at it. If you’ve got juice, let it flow. Whine & Cheese: A Podcast About Whiny Records and Cheesy Movies began in Spring 2018. Your intrepid hosts Joey and Mike are back this week to talk about the classic Northstar album Is This Thing Loaded in tandem with National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1, while Tyler continues his leave of absence. Joey gets emotional while listening to a “new” Gang Starr release, while Mike tries to make up excuses for why he didn’t invite Joey to go see The Lighthouse with him… whoops! We shout out our fearless leader, Master Liam, and show him some tough love on this one. We also shoutout Peter Deming (we love your work, Peter!) And then we try to develop a theory about why all emo bands say “hey [adjective] [body part].” I don’t know, it made sense at the time. Is Northstar a better Brand New? This week we are mourning summer & dreading winter with Poison The Well’s The Opposite Of December and August Rush. We run through the Trustkill Records lineup and reminisce. “They were like Every Time I Die, but horny.” We learn that Joey is a card-carrying member of both the Poison The Well and Terminator 3 street teams. Mike does his best impression of Ryan Primack to deliver an actual important message. Tyler compares Poison The Well to an interaction he once had with a pigeon while reminding us how sick 2004-2007 scenecore was. We clearly have nothing but good things to say about August Rush, especially Tyler who blesses us with one of his famous plot synopses. This week we’re joined by the eloquent Andrew Skyrm with his choice of Hellogoodbye’s Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! paired with Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens. Joey finally has someone on the show to bond with over hip hop and Lana Del Ray in Skyrm. Mike has a revelation that Hellogoodbye is the band that wrote Here In Your Arms while Tyler keeps interchanging Hollister and Hot Topic (they’re the same thing). We go through nearly every song on the album and pretty much unanimously agree that this thing (spoiler) just does not hold up. Joey does a Tarantino impression and we’ll leave it to you to decide whether it’s more of a Leno or a Cartman. We don’t love our cheese this week, but we don’t hate it. Joey and Mike are back with a road report on our way to LVAC’s Let’s Hang Out. Tyler is missing this week, so we’re filling the void with this special mini episode for the OG Cheeseheads. We’ve packed up the studio, set up all our recording equipment in Mike’s car, and decided to talk about a few EPs/demos this week with The Clippers’ An Evening With as well as Iron Chic’s 2008 demo. We have a couple close calls with the police and a confrontation with a fellow motorist along the way, all in the name of podcasting, professional wrestling, and rock music. Whine & Cheese – Episode 28: This week we’re covering Texas Is The Reason’s Do You Know Who You Are? and Christopher Nolan’s Memento. Joey basically accuses TITR of ripping off Gin Blossoms. We all seem to be suffering from the glorious return of anterograde amnesia when trying to recall the movie, so much so that this episode almost never saw the light of day. We get so derailed that we talk about a deleted scene from Freddy Got Fingered and the Mothman instead. Trinity from The Matrix is pretty rude in this one. Mike reads an excerpt from our group chat revealing that Tyler accidentally watched a different Rob Schneider movie. Tune in to find out which one! Whine & Cheese – Episode 27: We’re joined this week by our friend Brit to discuss two things close to her heart, The Killers’ Hot Fuss & Happy Madison Productions’ The Hot Chick. We all agree that we love a gospel choir, but later on Tyler flip-flops on his stance. We speculate whether or not The Killers fanbase are compromised mostly of anti-vaxxers or not. Mike and Joey out themselves as a draft-dodgers. Our cheese this week consists of a star-studded, body-swap, teen(?) comedy. Tyler deeply dissects Rob Schneider & Rachel McAdams’ voice acting choices. To round it all out, Joey forgets the name of the only person to email us so far. Whine & Cheese – Episode 26: We’re going green, bringing you this week’s episode live and in the middle of nature. Title Fight’s Floral Green is discussed along with Disney’s The Big Green. Sorry if any of the sounds from outside interfere with the sound quality this week. Where were you when that kid held on to a pipe and head-walked people in a complete circle during TF? We try to rank their albums but they’re all too damn good. Mike & Tyler get roached recounting the events from the 10th anniversary show. BUG HALL as NEWT SHAW. Joey confused The Big Green for Angels In The Outfield, Tyler confuses it for Little Giants, and Mike is just confused. Before recording, we poured cheetos on each other so pigeons would land on us and eat them because we’re outside. Whine & Cheese: A Podcast About Whiny Records and Cheesy Movies began in Spring 2018. Whine & Cheese – Episode 25: We’re making waves this week with Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenueand Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break. Does the violin guy add anything to the band or does he just do backflips? Tyler vows to find a Philly garage band with a better chorus than Yellowcard and asks for feedback on a potential dog name from the listeners. We never actually play the song “Ocean Avenue” for some reason. Joey tells the story of how he almost got a big acting break and Mike tells an equally sad story about seeing the Point Break remake. Whine & Cheese – Episode 24: Tyler’s roommate, Kate O’Brien, joins us this week with her pairing of Say Anything’s …Is A Real Boy & Disney’s made-for-TV musical fantasy Geppetto. We discuss whether third wave emo bands are actually good or just nostalgic while Mike tries to get us to play a game reciting the lyrics for Admit It!!! Spoiler: one of us knows way more than they should. Joey speculates about Geppetto’s sex life and why Drew Carey won’t stop talking about wanting a child of his own. Musically, there are a lot of similarities here, but only one of them has an unusually upbeat tune about a certain historical tragedy. Whine & Cheese – Episode 23: Our most anticipated pairing is finally here, it’s time for Thursday’s War All The Time & Paul W.S. Anderson’s Soldier. If you’ve been with us since the beginning then you know how important this film is to Tyler. The gang reminisces on simpler times when Thursday was the quintessential emo band of their collective youth. We talk flushing it out vs. fleshing it out, venomous snakes vs. poisonous snakes, and Todd 3465 vs. Caine 607. Whine & Cheese – Episode 22: Ole! We’re back with an interesting pairing for you, chosen by our guest & friend Mark Minchoff. It’s the 1994 occult thriller The Crow and the Bouncing Souls’ Hopeless Romantic. Mark has fond memories of both, but do they hold up? Tyler confuses Equilibrium with The Equalizer, neither of which are the movie in question. Mike questions whether or not Eric Draven is straight edge based on several instances throughout the film, of which Joey has trouble pronouncing the name of. Whine & Cheese – Episode 20: Another milestone. Wow, that brings up a lot of feelings. Speaking of feelings, is Lifetime an emo band? Or are they melodic hardcore? And why does Mike keep calling them Jawbreaker? Tyler gives everyone a stern reminder of which wave of emo we’re dealing with this week, while Joey recounts his experience seeing Lifetime and Cold World this past summer. Oh, and we talk about Coyote Ugly too. Why don’t they serve water at that bar? …they sure seem to have enough of it. Why do they use a bullhorn when they have a wireless microphone? Is “Pour Some Sugar on Me” even in this movie? All of these questions, and more, answered on this week’s episode of Whine & Cheese! Does Algernon have a split with Adventures and Little Big League? Mike says no, but Tyler made a playlist once soooo the jury’s still out. We shake the dust off of our collective knowledge of Angry Birds, should we have watched the movie adaptation of that instead? No way. Those birds don’t have Jay Mohr pulling double duty. In addition to adding reccurring man-on-the-street, movie synopsis expert Tyler Smith as a permanent co-host of the show this week, we’ve also got special guest and fellow p-caster Kate Eingorn of Film Friends joining us to discuss her pairing of All Time Low’s The Party Scene and Can’t Hardly Wait. The website last.fm is brought up a lot, and Kate humbly brags about how many times she scrobbled a song from this album. Joey connects the dots between this band and his home state with yet another useless Delaware connection. Mike disrespects a Bear vs. Shark t-shirt for the sake of the podcast which sends Tyler down a rollercoaster of ideas for his trash bag of band shirts in his basement. The gang is pretty divided on the Whine this week but all seem to agree that the Cheese is a classic. They go together like Jason Segal and watermelon. They can’t quite figure out what Kris Roe is really ever talking about and wonder if he’s alright. Something something about making memories and taking back wishes. They cover a curated festive playlist of emo hits new and old, as well as a season 8 Xmas episode of ER, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” Tyler admits to not even watching the episode, Mike barely paid attention, so Joey tries to pick up the slack. In the spirit of getting further away from the topic, the heaviness of Korn is discussed, who are very much not an emo band. Whine & Cheese – Episode 14.5: When the chips are down this week, all bets are off as Joey and Mike discuss The Movielife’s Has A Gambling Problem and a jackpot episode of The Simpsons, Season 5 Episode 10 – $pringfield. The topic at hand gets lost in the shuffle a few times as the guys get off topic right away, bringing up Geocities for some reason. You’ll even hear the perspective of the biggest & least supportive Movielife fan ever, Geoff, some guy on Amazon that gave the EP a 1/5 star rating. Matt Damon’s hair, or lack thereof, is addressed and the gang tries to remember where they parked their cars. The 2004 raunchy, yet weirdly woke, comedy kicks off with a girl cheating on a boy and a song being written about it… plus the record is a dozen tracks of the same thing. Whine & Cheese / Episode 7: Joey and Mike vow to never change for this weeks pairing, whether they like it or not. They talk about their favorite record they’ve covered so far and… well… an Adam Sandler movie. Mike proves that he is the number 1 Saves The Day fan in the Greater Philadelphia Region while Joey makes a really Delaware specific joke for one of the segments, stick around to see if it lands (hint: it doesn’t). How far would you drive for a single pineapple? Whine & Cheese / Episode 6: Joey and Mike turn to sports once again in the most appropriate pairing to date. A local whine “tasting” with fresh ears from both hosts, with hints of South Philly. Mike tries out a new nickname for a certain child actor while Joey runs through his favorite Christopher Lloyd roles. For some reason, they also manage to bring up Walter Matthau a lot and mull over the importance of the pennant race. RIP DAVID MONTAGNE.
