In the late '90s, there was a revival of the teen comedy, and Can't Hardly Wait stands as one of the classics of the era. The premise couldn't be simpler: It's one night at a party, the night of graduation. We follow a handful of crazy kids and see what kind of sexy trouble they get into. And it's a lot of fun! Surprisingly, this movie is rated PG-13 and is way less raunchy than we remember, so maybe not an ideal fit for Sex Month. So we try to lewd it up in our discussion for you. Next week (April 17, 2026): SEX MONTH continues with the '80s horror-sex classic Hellraiser (1987)! Twenty-five years ago, this high-energy musical adaptation of the both the comic book and TV cartoon was released to much hype....and no one showed up. :( It was a sizeable flop at the box office but has since garned a devoted cult following as a result of its sharp satire and catchy soundtrack. It's a seemingly simple story about three young ladies from the small town of Riverdale who are just trying to break out with their band, The Pussycats. They include Josie (Rachael Leigh Cook), Melody (Tara Reid), and Valerie (Rosario Dawson) and one day, they are just toiling to pick up their next gig when they are suddenly discovered by a shady record producer Wyatt (Alan Cumming) who seems something special in them. They are whisked off to New York City, signed to his label run by the ruthless Fiona (Parker Posey) and overnight, they become a pop sensation now named, "Josie and the Pussycats." However, their success comes with some unexpected consquences and they soon find themselves embroiled in a massive conspiracy involving the delivery of subliminal messages through pop music. :o Directed by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (Can't Hardly Wait), this enduring cult hit also co-stars Gabriel Mann, Missi Pyle, and Carson Daly (!)....as you've NEVER seen him before! Laci and Matt fall into the world of Christian Grey, a mysterious and mercurial billionaire (age: 27) who enjoys flying his helicopter and tickling womens' tummies. First, the show explores author E.L. James and how her Twilight fan fiction evolved into the worldwide bestselling Fifty Shades trilogy. Then, a cultural industry grows like a weed, trying to figure out what exactly it says about our society that we love these books, ya know? The 2010s is also when fandom completely seizes control of the production of its favorite intellectual properties. Author E.L. James was not happy with how far the first Fifty Shades film deviated from her book, and she kept a much tighter leash on the subsequent entries. But what exactly was she unhappy with? Is Fifty Shades of Grey conservative or progressive, sex-positive or prudish, feminist or retrograde, pro-BDSM or anti-BDSM? The answer, of course, is yes. I'll bet you five you're not alive if this movie about transactional law doesn't turn you on. Plus, we answer a sex advice question! Next week (April 10, 2026): SEX MONTH continues with the '90s sex comedy classic Can't Hardly Wait (1998)! Time stamps: 00:05:06 — History segment: Author E.L. James writes a Twilight fan fiction that then gets turned into Fifty Shades of Grey; the novel becomes a blockbuster, leading to huge movies and a huge cultural industry; the production of the movie is difficult; Dakota Johnson still confuses us; the #notmychristian backlash to Jamie Dornan's casting; director Sam Taylor-Johnson later expresses regret that she did the movie, claims E.L. "Nobody drink the beer, the beer has gone bad!" We watched "Can't Hardly Wait" with our friend Ronnie Sullivan from "Why Yes, We're Friends," and we're definitely feeling our age. This "classic" teen comedy from 1998 practically ushered in the teen movie craze of the late '90s and early 2000s. If you had a headshot and a SAG card in 1998 and were in your early-late or late-mid twenties, you were most likely in this movie. The cast list is a who's who of young Hollywood, and there is very nearly something for everyone here— not the least of which being our leads, Ethan Embry and our girl, Jennifer Love Hewitt. Can you get any cuter leads than those two? Ethan Embry was definitely an awakening for many a queer boy, and JLH was practically everyone's dream girl. The rest of the cast flow in and out in their respective vignettes; they have become iconic in the pantheon of teen party movies. Co-directors and writers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont really had their fingers on the pulse of young people at the time, and the duo would go on to direct another MTMUG classic— "Josie and the Pussycats." This movie has it all— cute boys, fierce girls, and a killer soundtrack. I just know we're going to be quoting this one for days. "She is NOT prettier than Gwyneth." We've been on an extended break, but we're back...and we're watching "Can't Hardly Wait." It's a teen comedy from 1998 that features seemingly almost every young actor of the era: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Seth Green, Clea DuVall, Selma Blair, Melissa Joan Hart, etc., etc., etc. If you know any of these people you have to watch it. Watching it is a little like a visual 90's time capsule. It's awesome. We have two wine pairings on this one. The first is a 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon called I Find Myself Here By Chance because it's goes well with the long title and the moments of fate in the movie. Then we have a 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Two Hands called Sexy Beast. There's a lot of hookups in the movie so it only made sense to have it.Metacritic Score: 53/100Movie Sync Notes: We purchase "Can't Hardly Wait" on Amazon Prime. We start "Can't Hardly Wait" 8:39 into the pod, and push play on part two at 57:40 into the pod.

This Thanksgiving-week episode of Beyond Sunday brings together Josh Hensley, Tate Wells, Chaney Guffey, and special guest Brandon Tubbs for a joyful, honest conversation around the table. The group kicks things off with the game Hardly Wait or Hard Pass, debating holiday foods, traditions, and family moments before shifting into a meaningful recap of Kevin Lee's message closing the First Thanksgiving Feast series—focusing on the Feast Foretold, Feast Foretaste, and Feast Forever, and the hope of the coming Wedding Supper of the Lamb. From there, the conversation turns toward real-life faith: how to live with hope in seasons that feel hopeless, how God meets us in our anxiety, and how gratitude can become a true spiritual discipline instead of a seasonal emotion. The team shares personal stories of worry, God's provision, and learning to trust what God is doing beyond what we can see. The episode also looks ahead with excitement toward the Advent series Everything You're Looking For and the December 21 launch of the Cadiz campus—inviting listeners to step into both gratitude and obedience as God continues to move. In Can't Hardly Wait, a graduating class gathers for one unforgettable night — a chaotic, emotional, and often hilarious collision of cliques, identities, and expectations. Beneath the 90s nostalgia and party anthems, the film poses a timeless question for educators: how do young people find belonging and purpose in a world so quick to label and divide them? Through characters like Preston, Amanda, and Denise, we see the tension between perception and authenticity — between who students think they should be and who they truly are. The movie reminds us that every learner is in their own process of discovery, and that connection and empathy can transform even the most uncertain transitions into opportunities for growth. On this episode of the Better Learning Podcast, host Carla Cummins and new co-host Jessica Westerduin sit down with Jay Doherty to unpack what Can't Hardly Wait reveals about identity, belonging, and the powerful role educators play in helping students write their next chapter with confidence and hope. Takeaways: Every student carries a story beyond the surface — belonging starts when educators listen deeply. Transitional moments, like graduation, can spark reflection, growth, and the courage to reinvent oneself. Schools that embrace diversity of thought, emotion, and identity prepare students for more than success — they prepare them for life. When educators foster genuine connection, they help students see that they're already enough, just as they are. About Jay Doherty: Jay Doherty is a K–12 Design Principal, Project Architect, and Certified Educational Planner (ALEP) at Lavallee Brensinger Architects in New England. He is passionate about designing educational and inspiring spaces that nurture the next generation of thinkers and doers. Jay's favorite place to be is at the intersection of art and science—a place where creativity and logic meet. He finds joy in the balance between these disciplines, whether it's expressed through thoughtful architecture, a well-composed piece of music, a carefully crafted beverage, or a beautifully made film. In addition to his work as an educational architect, Jay is a dedicated film enthusiast and critic. The trio dives into a rapid-fire nostalgia fest featuring Turner & Hooch, Murtaugh and Riggs, Veronica Mars, and enough Sandra Bullock to power a sequel (or three). From revealing their dream celebrity action duos (Paris & Nicole, anyone?) to passionately debating Leo DiCaprio's dating history and Katy Perry's Vegas residency chaos, this episode is a hilarious, unfiltered ride. Jamie stocks the Blockbuster shelves with teen classics like 10 Things I Hate About You and Can't Hardly Wait, while the hosts serve up meme-worthy moments, millennial truths, and serious rewatches.—No More Late Fees https://nomorelatefeespodcast.com909-601-NMLF (6653)—Follow Us on Social:Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/nomorelatefees TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@nomorelatefees Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/nomorelatefeesYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@nomorelatefees Twitterhttps://x.com/NoMoreLateFees —CONQUERingmyconquering.com10% Off Code: JACKIE10—NostaBeautyhttps://nostabeauty.com 20% Off Code: NMLF—JamieInstagramhttps://www.instagram.com/millennial_miseryhttps://www.instagram.com/hrbestiespodhttps://www.instagram.com/humorous_resourceshttps://www.instagram.com/the_chiefmemeofficerPrevious EpisodesAnchormanhttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/anchormanStay Classy Millennials: Ranking the Y2K Will Ferrell-versehttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com/episode/stay-classy-millennials-ranking-the-y2k-will-ferrell-verse
What are your most favorite and least-loved songs on the Replacements bootleg Shit, Shower and Shave? Adam chose this fan-favorite live recording by a band that Sam started steering him towards when they met in the 90s. Because they're such huge fans, there is almost an hour of fun stories about shows, corn and iconic logos plus Adam gets into the history of "Italian imports" before we even hit the ranks. Matt Tomich from the long-running Skyway mailing list joins from Switzerland to teach us about the band and share his favorites from the Connecticut stop on an infamous 1989 tour with Tom Petty. To be fittingly lofi, we "deliberately" had three separate recording issues and used our backup Zoom audio. Send us a textKatie and Bridget sign a yearbook at a house party at they re-watch the 90's teen movie: Can't Hardly Wait! It's graduation day and all the seniors are ready to parrrrrtaaayyyyy and have an epic final night of high school! There's Preston, a potential stalker who just found out that AMANDA BECKETT (yes we did have to capitalize her name) is single. While Preston attends the party in pursuit of his made up "destiny", we follow along with other characters such as: William Lichter, a nerd out for revenge who may or may not be Timothy Chalamet; Mike Dexter, the guy who broke up with Amanda Beckett and may or may not want to now date William Lichter; Denise, the girl everyone ignores, including her best friend Preston at the party he made HER go to; and our favorite, Kenny - aka Special K, the guy who has a love kit and a dream and we're here for it! Craziness ensues with the biggest list of recognizable actors ever complied in a singular movie! Released in 1998, it stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, and Seth Green.
I've followed Ethan Embry on Twitter/X (he's on Bluesky now) for years now, and have always been fascinated with how well-versed he is on political and social issues. Today, I finally got to sit down with the Atlanta-based California transplant best known for his acting in cult favorites like 'Empire Records,' 'That Thing You Do,' 'Can't Hardly Wait,' 'Sweet Home Alabama,' and notable most recently as 'Coyote' in the Netflix series 'Grace & Frankie.'We hung for more than an hour and hardly even got to talk about his acting, outside of a project he's wrapping up on now. Next time, I promise (and he promised we'd do it again). Today we talked 'toxic masculinity,' how he found his voice on social media, his concerns with India & Pakistan flirting with nuclear war, the failures of the Biden media team, plus what he's doing between gigs to keep his hands and mind occupied.
David, Richard, and Rebecca discuss the jam-packed Cannes lineup, and even predict which film they think might win the Palme d'Or. Barry, Abigail, and special guest Bill Boyle (finally) discuss Bill's “Phone-a-Friend” submission, Tim by The Replacements, and sample Senate Beer, Raised By Wolves, and Big Tomorrow from Right Proper Brewing Company in Washington, DC.Barry first discovered The Replacements after friends of the pod Terry Anderson and Jack Cornell performed (as members of The Woods) a cover of The Replacements' Can't Hardly Wait. Evidently, The Woods and The ‘Mats crossed paths many a time when both bands were actively touring the East Coast circuit. In fact, Barry commented that the dark humorous writing of Waitress in the Sky is similar to Terry's Anderson's writing style.Bill referenced this ad for Piels Beer. This album has been remixed by Ed Stasium, a producer and engineer who worked on albums by The Ramones, Talking Heads, and The Smithereens! In this bonus episode of No More Late Fees, Danielle and Jackie welcome their friend Nick for a nostalgic deep dive into the career of 90s and 2000s icon Jennifer Love Hewitt. From ranking her most memorable roles—like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heartbreakers, and Can't Hardly Wait—to uncovering the shocking list of movies she almost starred in (imagine her as Lara Croft or in The Wedding Planner!), they explore how JLove became a cultural fixture of the era. Along the way, they reminisce about her omnipresence in teen magazines, music videos, and MTV, making the case for why she felt like she was everywhere, even if her filmography was surprisingly limited. But the trip down memory lane doesn't stop there! Nick adds some classic baseball flicks to his ever-growing "Employee Picks" shelf, sparking a lively debate about sports movies (and a hilarious mix-up involving hockey). Tune in for plenty of laughs, some good-natured roasting, and a heartfelt appreciation for the queen of 90s teen entertainment.—No More Late Feeshttps://nomorelatefeespodcast.com909-601-NMLF (6653)—Follow Us on Social:InstagramTikTok FacebookYoutubeTwitter—CONQUERing10% Off Code: JACKIE10—NostaBeauty20% Off Code: NMLF—

Scott Michael LeRette and Susy Flory wrote a book called The Unbreakable Boy: A Father's Fear, a Son's Courage, and a Story of Unconditional Love. So when filmmaker and actor Peter Facinelli (Twilight, Nurse Jackie, Can't Hardly Wait) was approached to make it into a film, he had quite the journey.
Today on Buzzn The Tower, Mo & Max sit down with Charlie Korsmo. You might remember him from such movies as Dick Tracy, What About Bob?, Hook, and Can't Hardly Wait. One of the few child actors who actually survived to tell his story, Charlie will give us an inside look at working with Hollywood's most elite...including but not limited to Warren Beatty, Madonna, Al Pacino, Bill Murray, Richard Dreyfuss, Frank Oz, Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, and Steven Spielberg!

Today I'm joined by director of photography, Ricardo "Rick" Diaz, about his work on the hit Netflix film INCOMING? The film has a perfect blend of goofiness and raunchiness and is a coming-of-age story. It's reminiscent of favorites such as American Pie, Can't Hardly Wait, and Superbad. Diaz's goal was to capture the film in a way that evokes nostalgia and humor without making it look like the standard visual format we usually see in comedies of this nature. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/followingfilms/support
