This week, the Accelerated Culture team explores one of Laurie's all-time favorites and asks the age-old question, “How many bass guitarists can you fit into one alternative rock group?” Ned's Atomic Dustbin answered the question with their debut album, God Fodder. A relentless, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride, this album urged you to think about your relationships and, of course, to “Kill Your Television.” ******************** SUBSCRIBE ON PATREON FOR ADS-FREE LISTENING AND SPECIAL BONUS CONTENT! Started in 2018 by Keith Long, God Fodder has always been “Cliff Notes” for the listener's mind and soul. Greg Heinecke joins Keith one last time to reminisce on four seasons and the 65 episodes. Great memories on entertaining segments and thought-provoking or just-fun topics, along with recommendations from 2021 on what should be Seen, Read, or Heard. Come listen one more time, and “Thanks for listening!” #godfodderpodcast #fodderheads #doubtingfaithfully
God Fodder comes through again, living up to being the Cliff notes for the mind and soul. How else would sexual education, paradise, trees, and storms connect? Or how about James Bond, The Wonder Years, and Walt Disney?! Throw in a “Seen, Read, Heard” segment and its assortment of suggested titles, and you have another enjoyable episode from season four. #godfodderpodcast #fodderheads #doubtingfaithfully
Welcome to Indie Heaven, the part of the James McMahon Music Podcast where I – that'll be James McMahon – connect with the bands I adored as a sapling and ask… what happened next? It's a spin-off of sorts of my Indie Heaven website – you can find that at www.indieheaven.co.uk – and on this episode I'm speaking to Gareth Pring – but you can call him Rat – the guitarist in early 90's indie punk heroes Neds Atomic Dustbin. Few bands are more iconic within their era as the Stourbridge band – two bassists, a gazillion t-shirt prints (there's actually a pretty neat auction featuring some of them taking place now!), some bonkers haircuts… and a load of ace songs. He's a lovely bloke is Rat, I really enjoyed our conversation. But what follows is an interview unlike many I've conducted in 20 years of doing this. If you know anything about me, you'll know I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – I'm pretty vocal about it, and being so has helped me heal to a degree. In fact I do another podcast solely about OCD, called The OCD Chronicles, which you can find on pretty much any platform that hosts podcasts. I lived in shame about my OCD for years. I thought I was a freak, that something was wrong with me that could never be fixed. And I didn't know anyone else with the condition until a couple of years ago, which is, in truth, the beginning of that process of being fixed. Anyhow, halfway though this interview, Rat tells me that he too has OCD. And it just got me thinking about all the time I spent as a kid, tripping on God Fodder, my mind starting to unravel – and yet the guy playing the guitar on those songs was going through exactly the same thing, in silence, in secret. Both of us alone... but connected via music. It's not all OCD this interview - we take a fairly broad look at the career of Neds. But OCD is there, front and centre. The intro music on this episode is by the band Mavis. Any other music is by the band Imp. Indie Heaven and The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook Media production. Spoook is also a record label, a promoter, a shop, a Substack - it's many things. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter. And please do Like, Review and Subscribe - it actually really helps people find our podcasts!
Has it been a year, a year and a half, or longer since you were in a movie theater? For Greg and Keith, the time has been excruciating, draining them and, what Ann Masten, PhD, calls, their “surge capacity.” But shots are in arms and Big Screens are opening up, so this episode Greg and Keith talk about specific actions on how to refuel when depleted and how A Quiet Place (and QP, Part Two) did just that for them. Join in on some trivia, including a Shout-Out to the new national holiday Juneteenth, and refuel yourselves with another episode of God Fodder.

In S4: E2 “Why Everyone is Wrong,” Greg and Keith tackle the subject of biases and how we don't know ourselves and others as well as we think we do. Pulling from the Hidden Brain podcast “The Double Standard,” from January 4, 2021, we fodder about how introspection betrays even the best of the self-aware crowd and by knowing just this one little thing, we can make reconciliation with our different minded neighbor a reality versus an impossibility. Tune in for more of what you dig about God Fodder, including some Hot Seat Trivia and a new favorite, “Future's Past” reminiscing. #bias #DoubleStandard #godfodderpodcast #fodderheads
2020 has been one of the odder years in recent collective memory. Join us for a weird ending to a weird year and season of God Fodder as we debrief an episode of Supernatural with Ashley Flowers, a podcast that awakened Keith's love for conspiracies and mysteries, especially of the flying saucer and Men in Black variety. Plus Greg and Keith's “Favorite Things” lists, HOT SEAT trivia and another “Ask the Author” segment, S3 E16 “Conspiracy” season finale is sure to bring out your questions and maybe even a few fears.
