Jeff Gordinier is one of the most prolific, influential food writers in the biz: not only does he work on Esquire's Best Restaurants list every year, he contributes regularly to The New York Times as both a food writer and a poetry critic (!) AND he's the author of the book Hungry, for which he traveled around the world with René Redzepi, frequently hailed as the world's best chef. In today's session, we learn all about Gordinier's new interest in eating healthy (and the toll the Best Restaurants list took on his body), why the pandemic essentially ended fine dining as we knew it, and how a man who doesn't drink can choose the best bars in the US. We also cover growing up in Southern California, the impact (or lack of impact) René Redzepi had on his cooking, and his love for making tea. Hosted on Acast. Skinfix is the first clean, clinically active skin care brand vetted by unbiased dermatologists. The Nova Scotia, Canada-based brand was founded in 2014 by Amy Gordinier after she discovered a powerful 19th-century heritage formula for treating eczema. Since then, Skinfix has expanded to address the most stubborn skin issues and heal, replenish and maintain the vital skin barrier. The skincare portfolio, which has won over 40 major beauty awards, currently features seven collections: Barrier+, Resurface+, Eczema+, Correct+, Redness Recovery+, Remedy+, and Inked+. A firm believer in the link between mental health and skin wellness, Gordinier feels a moral imperative to prove the effectiveness of the products by investing in clinical trials and publishing the results. Skinfix also shares the percentages of active ingredients on the packaging, so consumers know exactly what they are getting in each bottle. All of the products are cruelty-free and all of the formulas are vegan or beegan. Skinfix's cartons are made from 100% recycled or reclaimed fiber, and almost all primary packaging components contain a high percentage of post-consumer recycled plastic. Skinfix is currently available throughout the United States and Canada exclusively at Sephora and directly through the Skinfix website. The brand further supports mental health by donating 1% of all sales to YourMomCares, an organization dedicated to providing mental wellness resources to children around the world. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/skincareanarchy/message

There's nothing worse than a wasted meal, according to Esquire's Food and Drinks Editor Jeff Gordinier—and if you follow his suggestions, you won't be in danger of facing any wasted meals on your next California road trip. Gordinier is the author of Hungry: Eating, Road-Tripping and Risking It All with the Greatest Chef in the World, and he joins California Now Podcast host Soterios Johnson to talk about his favorite culinary destinations from San Diego to Wine Country, and why food and road trips go so well together, particularly in California. Johnson also speaks with Gail Fornasiere, who knows more than most about the magic of Santa Catalina Island. The 21-mile-long island off the coast of Southern California is a popular destination for day-trippers and vacationers, blending a rich Hollywood history (Marilyn Monroe lived there before she became famous!) with a relaxing modern vibe. As Johnson learns during this episode, Catalina offers something for just about everyone.

At midlife, food writer Jeff Gordinier felt like he was sleepwalking. His marriage was crumbling, and he’d lost his professional purpose. Then he got a curious invitation: René Redzepi, the superstar head chef and co-owner of Noma, in Copenhagen, one of the world’s most influential restaurants, asked Gordinier to join him on a quest to Mexico to find exceptional tacos. Thus began a yearslong series of global adventures—foraging for sandpaper figs in Australia, diving for shellfish in the Arctic, seeking cochinita pibil in a remote part of the Yucatan—that reawakened Gordinier passion for both life and food. In his book Hungry, Gordinier describes how Redzepi’s raw energy and philosophy of constantly moving forward were an intoxicant as well as a kind of medication. For this episode, Outside’s Michael Roberts spoke with Gordinier about the wildest moments along his journeys with Redzepi and his new habit of saying yes to just about everything.

The American nuclear family exploded decades ago. The trend has been steadily towards more divorce and more complication — half-siblings and awkward introductions ("This is my ex-wife's husband"). There's nothing wrong with that, but it has forever changed what it means to be a family man. Interested in discussing this, Fatherly Podcast host Joshua David Stein and co-host Postell Pringle reached out to Jeff Gordinier, globe-trotting food editor of "Esquire" and author of "Hungry: Eating, Road-Tripping, and Risking It All With the Greatest Chef in the World." Gordinier is on his second go-around and generous in his willingness to discuss what it means to get a second chance in a country with no second acts. Welcome to the latest episode of Adoption Conversations. This week's episode is longer than usual, yet I'm sure you will not regret it. I met Bridget on social media, where she is active promoting adoptees' rights in United States. Bridget gave birth to her first daughter about forty years ago and she was pressured by family, social services, and life circumstances to relinquish her for adoption few days after birth. She buried the whole experience in her own shame for over thirty years, when she was given the chance to meet her again. This story really touched me and left me with more questions than answers. When social pressure is so strong, do birth moms really have a choice?
