Join us in this Podcast we interview Jackie Weaver about her campaign to bring back civility to local government Jackie Weaver famous for chairing the Parish meeting at Handforth Parish Council has agreed to do a webinar with us where we will look at her campaign to have Councillors removed from their position if they breach the Council Code of Conduct. Jackie faced abuse when she chaired a meeting of Handforth Parish Council and then shot to national fame through the manner in which she dealt with it. It has made her start a campaign for civility in local government. Here in Enfield we have seen the Leader in breach of the Council Code of Conduct on two occasions and Council meetings have descended into chaos with filibustering and heckling to prevent some Councillors making their voice heard. The Enfield Council chamber has become a bedlam rather than a deliberative chamber. Other local authorities have also behaved in a way that is partisan, hectoring and that shows little respect to rational debate. How can we change this and how across the UK can we get Councils to behave in a civil way is what we will explore with Jackie. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/globalnet21/message

The star of THAT viral video from Handforth Parish Council, Jackie Weaver (Cheshire Association of Local Councils) joins Wigan MBC chief executive Alison McKenzie-Folan, and FutureGov CEO Matthew Skinner. Together, our panel discuss the pro's and cons of remote meetings: what has local government done well throughout the pandemic and what could we all do better on? We hear some feedback from the ‘ground' in Wigan, and hear first-hand about the ways in which emerging technologies could be used in future local government meetings, both physically and digitally. The future of hybrid is also up for discussion, alongside the importance of choice and local council impact – does Jackie Weaver's recent BRIT Awards appearance herald in a new era of local government influence? Virtual communication has been the mainstay for all of us for nearly 18 months now. As employers consider how they will work post-pandemic, the debate about what stays virtual in the future is going to dominate the next few months. There is always lots of discussion about the negative aspects of endless Zoom or Teams calls, but what would we lose if we return to our old ways of working? To help provide some perspective on this, I have a very special guest. Jackie Weaver became an instant celebrity after a Zoom recording of a chaotic meeting of Handforth Parish Council went viral. As well as cheering us all up during a very long miserable locked down winter, Jackie has used her platform to champion the work of town and parish councils and increase the diversity of their membership. There are some interesting parallels for employers here, and Jackie most definitely does have the authority. In the interview, we discuss:    ▪   That Zoom meeting and instant global internet fame    ▪   The positives of virtual communication    ▪   Engaging with diverse audiences through virtual platforms    ▪   Inclusivity and accessibility    ▪   Virtual, face to face and hybrid    ▪   What can employers learn from what is now happening to parish and town council meetings?    ▪   What Jackie Weaver is doing next Listen to this podcast in Apple Podcasts.
