It's Emmajority Thursday on the Majority Report On today's show: Trump has been "Triple Sabotaged" at the UN as the escalator fails to work as he and the First Lady entered the stair well, fortunately Melania was not hurt. Then his teleprompter cut out, and he was forced to "speak from the heart". If that wasn't horrible enough, it turns out his microphone was significantly quieter than others. Trump wrote a heart-wrenching account of the tragedy on Truth Social in which he spares no detail. Jesse Watters suggests that we bomb the UN over this devasting attack on our president. Investigative journalist, Ken Klippenstein joins the show to discuss the Trump administration's manipulation of recent shootings to bolster their war on trans people. Follow Ken's work at here. Reporter at Responsible Statecraft, Connor Echols joins us to discuss his new piece, How a Little-Known Embassy Aid Hijacked US Isreal Policy. In the Fun Half: We are joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder. Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters resigns to take a position in the private sector as union buster just a day after announcing TPUSA chapters for every High School in the state. Adam Friedland hypnotizes all the other panelists on Piers Morgan while asking for empathy for the oft bullied Donald Trump. The daughter of a New Mexican state senator calls out her father for accepting Israeli money and peddling their propaganda. All that and more. The Department of Justice is reportedly discussing potential restrictions on transgender individuals owning firearms following recent incidents. This episode examines why this proposal threatens Second Amendment rights for all Americans, regardless of where you stand on trans issues. We break down the constitutional concerns, the dangerous precedent this sets, and why prominent conservatives are getting this wrong when they use civil rights as political footballs. This is a vulnerable episode for me to share, but it was very important to me to record and release this episode because it highlights something I don't think we see enough: people in positions of power, privilege or leadership openly receiving feedback. Janie Ganga is a yoga teacher I deeply admire and have worked closely with for nearly a decade. In May of this year, they reached out to tell me something I had posted on social media had upset and hurt them. (Here is the reel that started it all.) We've had several conversations about the situation since, and this episode is the culmination and public sharing of how we worked through that. Please listen, share it widely, and let us know how it lands with you. Janie Ganga (she/they) is an E-RYT 500 Yoga Teacher, social justice activist, and co-owner of Santosha Yoga, an online studio rooted in the Providence, RI community. Certified in I AM Yoga since 2013, Ganga specializes in Private Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Let Your Yoga Dance, and is completing certification as a Yoga Therapist. Beyond the mat, Janie has organized queer community events for years – creating queer friendly femme-centered spaces in Boston with madFemmePride and co-leading the 2006 Transcending Boundaries Conference, which brought together activists for Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex, Polyamorous, and Kink Rights. As a Professional Member of ASDAH (Association for Size Diversity and Health), Janie is guided by Health at Every Size and is passionate about making yoga accessible to all bodies and identities. Anne Lamott's son “called on” his mom after a transphobic tweet - Janie stumbled on this story after she questioned a colleague about sharing a Lamott's quote. Ganga discovered Lamott had publicly apologized, though the apology received little attention compared to the initial harm. Public Enemies, Private Friends - recommended by Janie's friend Marshall Miller, this documentary highlights dialogue between pro-choice and pro-life leaders in 1990s Boston. Accessible Yoga Podcast - hearing Jivana Heyman speak about his own activism and yoga inspired Janie to share her own perspective more openly. Let's talk about the Right Wing defending Trans people....
The DOJ Seeks to ban gun access to trans people . More on this story on today's podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week, we're looking at the dueling reactions to the Annunciation school shooting. On the left, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D.) is calling for a special session of the legislature to pass a gun-control package likely to include an AR-15 ban. On the right, the Department of Justice is reportedly considering an effort to ban all trans people from owning guns. The Second Amendment Foundation is opposed to both of these ideas. So, we have Kostas Moros, a lawyer who was recently hired by the gun-rights group, back on the show to explain why he doesn't like the proposals and how they might fare legally and politically. Moros said any attempt to blanket-ban people who identify as trans or who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria from owning guns would run into serious legal and constitutional trouble. He explained that current law requires an individual finding of dangerousness for the government to strip anyone of their gun rights on the basis of mental health. He argued, even if Congress changed the law, it would run afoul of the Second Amendment, and the Supreme Court would likely strike it down. Moros argued the same is true for the potential "assault weapons" ban that could come out of Minnesota. He said four Supreme Court justices have already signaled they'd strike down a ban, and a Minnesota law could actually provide further reason for the Court to get involved. Special Guest: Kostas Moros.

Synopsis: Is Authoritarianism Here?: Gessen and Stanley discuss the shift in America's self-understanding, from democratic ideals to a self-identity based on loving the US for its past greatness, and warn that this is not a democratic project, but rather a fascist one, similar to what Putin is doing in Russia.Stay informed and engaged! Please hit the podcast subscribe button if you've yet to subscribe.Description: What will it take to reject fascism, before it's too late? Masha Gessen and Jason Stanley are two leading experts on autocracy, and they're sounding the alarm. They and their families have escaped totalitarian regimes and oppressive governments; today Gessen and Stanley are pulling back the curtain on the attacks against DEI, trans bodies, civil rights, higher education and more. Is authoritarianism here? Masha Gessen is an acclaimed Russian-American journalist, a Polk Award winning opinion writer for the New York Times and the author of "Surviving Autocracy" and “The Future is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia.” Forced to leave Russia twice, in 2024, a Moscow court convicted them, in absentia to eight years in prison for their reporting on the war in Ukraine. Jason Stanley is a best-selling author and professor whose books include “Erasing History” and "How Fascism Works". He recently left his teaching position at Yale University to relocate to Canada with his family; noting that he is a child of Jewish refugees who fled Nazi Germany. In this historic conversation — the first interview between Gessen and Stanley — the two explore how to be bold in our movements and envision a multi-ethnic democracy. Plus, a commentary from Laura.“Trump has proposed a revived empire, a return to an imaginary past. The Democrats have proposed the way things are now, which are deeply unsatisfying and horribly anxiety provoking for a very large number of people. So we need a vision of a future that is more appealing than the imaginary past.” - Masha Gessen“What I see now is this regime shifting the self understanding of America, from having these democratic ideals . . . God knows they've been imperfect, to a self identity as loving the United States because we've had these great men in our past, and we've conquered the West, and we can punch you in the nose. And that's not a democratic project. That's like what Putin is doing in Russia.” - Jason Stanley• Masha Gessen: Opinion Columnist, The New York Times; Author, Surviving Autocracy; Distinguished Professor, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, CUNY• Jason Stanley: Author, Erasing History & How Fascism Works; Professor, Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto Music Credit: “America” by Sylvan Paul, courtesy of Wolf+Lamb Records. Two fringe misfits walk into a Zoom room and..... Join Grey Doolin and Luis for a joyful, lit up conversation about the spirituality of sex dysphoria. Grey shares how their trans identity is a gift not a destination, and how it's not about shutting parts of yourself off, it's about bringing all of yourself along for the ride. An important part of this realization dawned when their therapist asked if they wanted top surgery because society hates female bodies, or because top surgery was aligned for them?Luis and Grey wonder, which part of a person thinks it will die without the hormones and surgical intervention? That is the part that needs tending. They question the standard procedural process of affirming care and envision the benefits of slowing it down to the speed of the body. This slowing down has led Grey to practicing belonging in a natural way, remembering their own belovedness and divinity, and learning to hold complexity. In Grey's words, "Everything in your life is an invitation, EVERYTHING." Regardless of your gender, sex, or identity this invitation holds true. Synopsis: Is Authoritarianism Here?: Gessen and Stanley discuss the shift in America's self-understanding, from democratic ideals to a self-identity based on loving the US for its past greatness, and warn that this is not a democratic project, but rather a fascist one, similar to what Putin is doing in Russia. ARE YOU AUDACIOUS? SUPPORT OUR RESISTANCE REPORTING FUND! Help us continue fighting against the rise of authoritarianism in these times. Please support our Resistance Reporting Fund. Or make a one time donation at LauraFlanders.org/Donate Description: What will it take to reject fascism, before it's too late? Monday was Trans Day of Visibility and Senate Democrats introduced two new bills that would expand protections for trans Coloradans — and in particular, trans kids — and no GOP Senators supported the legislation. Host Bree Davies and producer Olivia Jewell Love are joined by KUNC government and politics reporter Lucas Brady Woods to dig into how these bills could impact everything from school dress codes to gender-affirming care. Then, Olivia brings a list of the best and worst April Fools' Day pranks from politicians across the state — including Governor Polis' South Park statehouse portrait. Plus, police on ponies, dogs in the Capitol, and more wins and fails of the week! Bree mentioned the KUNC podcast The Colorado Dream and its season called “The Hate State.” She also talked about Brittany Petterson's baby in DC (again), the study of the impacts of the fentanyl criminalization bill and the fundraiser for Rainbow Dome. Olivia talked about the police horse force downtown and the Onyx, Denver's brand new women's rugby team. Lucas talked about frustrations with the vacancy process, the semi-positive ending for state budget cuts and Rep. Karen McCormick's Golden Retriever, Pippin, and other dogs of the Capitol.
