Happy end of hiatus everyone! We're back covering 1953's HOUSE OF WAX, directed by André de Toth and written by Crane Wilbur and Charles Belden. Plus, the real Chamber of Horrors in London's Madame Tussuads' Wax Museum, a horror filled wind down, and the shows we've been binging these last few weeks. We also dedicate this episode to Val Kilmer (who we will miss very much), and Larry Graham, Kate's dad who introduced them to Vincent Price. You can follow the podcast and hosts on Twitter/Bluesky at @HorrorTimePod and at @dykemadden and @ellemdesigns! Alright, folks, listen up—because I need some help here. Clay and Amanda are back from their holiday break (finally!), and they're kicking off 2025 on *The Rotten Horror Picture Show Podcast* with a deep dive into the Vincent Price classic *House of Wax*. A real gem of old-school horror, you know? The dripping wax, the sinister undertones, the undeniable charm of Vincent Price—what's not to love? But here's where things start to mess with my head: this movie is apparently tied to their Patreon theme for the year, which is all about reboots and remakes. And, uh… I have a confession. I don't really get it. Like, what *is* the difference between a reboot and a remake? Are they the same thing? Does one have to be modern and the other stick to the original story? If you're just redoing a movie from scratch, isn't that… both? And what about *sequels that pretend the old ones don't exist*? Is that something else entirely? My brain is melting like wax over here. Thankfully, Clay and Amanda are the pros we need to guide us through this tangled mess of terminology. In this episode, they're revisiting *House of Wax* as a starting point to explore how films evolve when they're brought back to life in new ways. And I gotta say, Vincent Price's 1953 version is a hell of a way to kick things off—chilling, stylish, and just a little campy. It's a *remake* of a 1933 film (*Mystery of the Wax Museum*, FYI), but what does that make the 2005 *House of Wax* with Paris Hilton? A reboot? A re-re-make? I don't know! So, tune in as Clay and Amanda unravel the waxy mystery of this horror classic—and maybe clear up this whole reboot-remake nonsense for the rest of us.patreon.com/thepenskyfile

On this episode Phillip is joined by Bill VanRyn and Sam Panico to discuss this possessed hand movie. Phillip starts the show by reading the general information while Sam and Bill give facts throughout. It's then time for listener opinions from Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Then it's time for the three to discuss this Samantha Eggers classic. It's a great discussion. Phillip then reads the question of whether they notice anything that Tarantino might have liked or used in a film. They then individually rate the movie. Then they answer the question of whether they would buy, rent, or find this movie for free. Phillip then gives his Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Don't Move (2024). Bill recommends Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933). Sam recommends J-Horror Rising (4 disc limited edition). Phillip then talks about next week's show when Jennifer Upton will join him to talk about Alligator (1980). Thanks for listening.
This week's episode tells the story of Elmer McCurdy, a not too successful bandit of the old west who was eventually killed in Oklahoma in 1911. However, McCurdy's story didn't end then. After being embalmed, no one wanted to pay for his burial, and he went on display at the funeral home. Elmer's desiccated eventually toured the United States in various ways until it was forgotten that he was actually a real person and not a wax figure. The truth of his identity wasn't discovered until the 1970's when he was discovered while filming a TV episode in an amusement park dark ride. Take a listen and find out all about Elmer, who's like only got more interesting after he was dead.

What if museums were sticky, stinky, noisy places? What if they were sensational? Psychologist Alison Eardley is on a mission to make museums more accessible and inclusive -- physically and conceptually -- for all audiences. Her work draws on all of our senses, engaging us far more deeply with what's before us. What if museums helped us tap our collective curiosity to co-create our visits? Millions of people enjoy visiting Madame Tussauds Wax Museums each year, but only a very few know the macabre history behind the first one that opened in London in 1831, containing the death masks and wax figures of actual victims of the French Revolution on 1789-1793- which were made by a 20 year old young lady named Anna Marie Grosholtz who had trained to be an artist and sculptor of wax and worked in the employ of her uncle at his shop in Paris. Through that work she became close with the sister of the King, and when the revolution broke out she was sent to prison- soon to be released with the agreement that she would provide death masks and lifelike wax figures of the often royal victims of the guillotine including Marie Antionette, Robespeirre, and many others. She later parlayed her horrific experience into a business which has lasted to this day.
Myron Welik shares his experience as both a parent and an entrepreneur. He emphasizes the importance of self-confidence and self-reliance in children, as well as the need for parents to be present and supportive. Myron discusses the challenges of discipline and the importance of love in parenting. He encourages parents to find activities that their children enjoy and to make a conscious effort to spend quality time with them. Myron also highlights the significance of love in life and the lasting impact it has on relationships.About Guest, Myron Welik:In 2002, I lost my Muti-Million Dollar business in a catastrophic way, leaving me paralyzed with self-doubt and depression. However, I kept going and 16 year later I successfully re-invented myself. I am known as a “Jackhammer” and have been in the business of making deals happen for 40 years. I am the host of the Jackhammer podcast and author of “The Jackhammer Effect”. My insatiable drive and resilience have been a hallmark of my long and successful career. Moreover- I identified and brokered the deal that brought Heidi Klum and New Balance together, leading to the creation of the HKNB brand. I pitched products of my own design on the Home Shopping Network to 40 million viewers. In addition - I have negotiated strategic partnerships with well-known brands such as the New England Patriots, Lacoste, FIFA, Madison Square Gardens, Radio City Music Hall, and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. In 2018 met a young real estate entrepreneur that impressed me and I had the feeling that we could great things together, even though I knew nothing about real estate. But he disappeared on me. For 6 months, I relentlessly pursued that opportunity . By 2020, the partnership was in place. Three and half years later, my consulting work resulted in over $40 Million Dollars of real estate investments . Today my brand is The Jackhammer. I'm 71 going on 51 and nothing can stop me. I am proof that age is no barrier to reinventing yourself. I live by the motto “Never give up, stay passionate, and work hard because it's never too late.”

On this episode of the podcast, Phillip is joined by his cousin Chip. The two talk about Joel and Ethan Coen's 1984 debut film Blood Simple. Phillip starts the show by reading a comment that was added late for last week's episode City of the Living Dead AKA The Gates of Hell (1980). It's then time for 'Tarantino Talks', and Phillip reads what Quentin said about Blood Simple. Then he reads the general information for Blood Simple, with some facts sprinkled in. It's then time for Listener' Opinions from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The two cousins then have a great discussion about this Neo Noir classic. Phillip gives a little more trivia, and then reads a review. They then answer the question of whether they noticed anything that Tarantino might have liked from this movie, or used in a film. Then they individually rate the movie 1 to 5 stars. They answer also rather they would buy, rent, or find this movie for free. Phillip gives his Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) (4 stars.). The randomizer then does it's thing and picks the movie for next week (when Phillip will be joined by Dave Lizerbram from the podcast Rock Docs) Saturn 3 (1980). So come back on October 20th for another great discussion. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/makingtarantinothepodcast/message
At the Municipal Archives in New York City is a black and white negative containing an image of a deadly weapon used in a sinister plot of revenge. Just uptown in New York's Times Square sits the world famous Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, where the likeness of one revolutionary woman is on display, telling an inspiring and artful tale that spans one of history's most tumultuous eras. And on the grounds of the San Diego Air & Space Museum in California is a large missile that led to the creation of a product that's found in nearly every household in America. Hosted on Acast. A conversation with Dr. David Fakunle who uses the art of storytelling to promote public health by listening, understanding, and addressing the personal, social, and structural factors that contribute to health disparities. He powerfully combines science with art and is transforming discussions about the role of storytelling in healing. Dr. Fakunle shares his personal story of growing up in a family deeply rooted in the arts, especially music and storytelling. His childhood was marked by significant cultural influences, such as his experiences at the Great Blacks in Wax Museum in Baltimore and his memorable encounter with renowned griot, Mary Carter Smith who with 2019 National Heritage Fellow Linda Goss co-founded the Association of Black Storytellers. Dr. Fakunle took these influences to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he realized the deeper implications about the potential of storytelling in the realm of public health. Fakunle's innovative ideas were supported by the faculty, and upon graduation, he began teaching storytelling in the Mental Health Department at Hopkins, emphasizing the importance of effectively communicating scientific research through engaging narratives. Fakunle argues that the profound benefits of storytelling in health communication come from its ability to resonate with audiences but more importantly, authentic narratives and voices need to be central in discussions about health challenges Dr. Fakunle also discusses his many years of work at WombWork Productions (where he is now executive director). WombWork is a social change performing arts company. Under his leadership, the company shifted its focus from implicit to explicit public health impact, tackling a range of serious topics such as HIV, gang violence, and child sexual abuse through art. Dr. Fakunle's passionate belief that the creative process serves as a crucial part of the healing process is the thread that moves through all his work.
The gruesome two are late again because the south Florida heat melted the Wax Museum. The boys give a full recap of the Lollapalooza Livestream, the Lizzo situation and Beyonce's toilet conundrum.
Although this movie tends to conflate "time" and "movie parodies" there's some things to enjoy about this mess. I'm pretty sure that the plot is that they need to get a zombie hand back from a time when zombies were real, and bring it to court so that Sara won't get the chair for the 201 deaths she is on the hook for from burning down the Wax Museum from the first movie. (Mark of course is beyond the reach of any laws for his part in the arson due to his rich guy privileges.) This story is mostly forgotten as we bop around through a few great movie parodies, and a few fairly phoned in ones. Oh, also half the scenes are mercilessly cribbed from Evil Dead 2. Join Matt and Tristan for what can truly be called the second movie in the Waxwork franchise, Waxwork 2.
Brittany Williams, from the world-famous Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, joins Anna & Raven to discuss the history of the museum and the process of creating the likenesses of countless celebrities and public figures! Which museum or attraction is your favorite?
Your favorite teachers are off duty and looking at the role of pop culture in education. From reminiscing about our favorite teacher movies to cringing over creepy teacher portrayals, we discuss it all. Remember Ms. Frizzle? Or the Kindergarten Cop? Yeah, we dissect those too! Ever wonder how pop culture can aid classroom teaching? Lauran takes us back to her rockin' Wax Museum project, teaching history through the lens of Hall of Fame musicians. Gabe shows us how he turns up the volume in his class with music, teaching subconscious understanding through lyrical analysis. Don't worry, he'll explain what that means. We also tap into the fashion flashback and the hilarity of kids not knowing the pop culture references on their own shirts. Good or garbage with Gabe keeps it classic this week, as we debate the nostalgic thrill of the TV cart wheeling its way into the classroom. Is the TV cart good or garbage, we all know the answer! In the world of gaming, who can forget the good old Oregon Trail? We revisit some educational games and the unintended scares they gave us. Wrapping it up, we discuss how fictional Hogwarts classes could potentially stack up in a real-world curriculum. It's a pop culture frenzy you wouldn't want to miss.
