Imraan Khan – Pakistan's Hero or Fall Guy? by Radio Islam
In this episode of the Speaking Out of Place podcast, Professor David Palumbo-Liu and Azeezah Kanji interview Dr. Haley Duschinski and Mr. Imraan Mir, who are active in trying to grow global awareness of Kashmir and in working to secure human rights for the people of Kashmir. They give us important historical background on Kashmir, which is normally reduced to simply a place of struggle between India and Pakistan. To counter that image, Duschinski and Mir characterize Kashmir as a region with a deep and rich culture and history that is suffering under a brutal and anti-democratic occupation imposed and maintained by the state of India.Dr. Haley Duschinski is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Ohio University (Ph.D. Anthropology, Harvard University, 2004). A legal and political anthropologist, she has co-edited Resisting Occupation in Kashmir (2018), The Routledge Handbook of Critical Kashmir Studies (2022), and The Palgrave Handbook of New Directions in Kashmir Studies (2023). Duschinski is a founding member of the Critical Kashmir Studies collective and an active member of the Kashmir Scholars Consultative and Advocacy Network (KSCAN).Imraan Mir is a lawyer, entrepreneur and author. His Kashmir-related work involves research, writing and advocacy to increase understanding of historic and contemporary realities and to facilitate accountability for rights violations. He has done human rights-related work on Kashmir since the late 1990s independently and through collaborations with various organizations, including the Kashmir Law and Justice Project. He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law.www.ohio.edu/cas/duschinswww.kljp.orgwww.palumbo-liu.com https://speakingoutofplace.comhttps://twitter.com/palumboliu?s=20To learn more about Kashmir, you can hear the unabridged 1h4min version of this episode on the Speaking Out of Place podcast & website.

Sh Imraan Saban – All Going Well Through The Grace Of Allah by Radio Islam
This Madena sura is named after the family of Jesus ( peace be upon him) The story of Zachariah , Mary's mother, Mary and Jesus. The main point is the devotion to God the One and Only. Verse 20 ( Do you too devote yourselves to Him alone?) The main point for Muslims is verse 84 ( We Muslims believe in God and in what has been sent down to us and to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, alasbaat, we believe In What has been given to Moses, Jesus and the prophets from their Lord. As for the life lessons / affirmations I use daily ; God is close to true believers verse68). All grace is in God's hands: He grants it to whoever He will- He is all embracing, all knowing- and He singles out for His mercy whoever He will. His grace is infinite.) (verse 73-74).God loves those who put their trust in Him . Verse 159. As well as verse 174. God is enough for us: He is the best protector). What better way to live your life while using Quran as your daily affirmations. Being a good human to yourself, your family to your surroundings the earth and animals and plants. May our Lord forgive us our sins guide us and give us help and bless us with the best rewards of this world and the excellent rewards of the Hereafter. God: bless us with your love and to always do good. Ameen

Imraan Siddiqi, born in Alabama and raised in Atlanta, has always been a proud Muslim. Growing up in a city that was both a major civil rights player and part of the Bible Belt—with most households engrossed in religion—he felt at home sharing his Islamic faith and accepted for declining alcohol and dating. Now the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington State, he spends his days working to protect cultural and religious freedoms. He joins us on AMP to discuss the organization and its efforts to combat Islamophobia. CAIR is the largest Muslim civil liberties organization in the States and works to advocate for victims of discrimination, improve media representation, and lobby for policy change. As the former Executive Director in Arizona, Imraan faced quite a bit of opposition and relays his experiences there versus his new position based in Seattle—a “really welcoming environment for Muslim activism.” We discuss his recent championing of two individuals kicked off a plane at Sea-Tac for speaking Arabic and texting emojis. Imraan defines Islamophobia and provides the historical and contemporary contexts for its development. More surprisingly, even to us, he details the multimillion-dollar industry dedicated to inciting anti-Islamic sentiment via harassment and vandalism but also in city councils, school boards, and the federal government. He names organizations that have been successful in portraying Islam through the lens of terrorism and delivers this takeaway: Money and hate go hand in hand. As for tomorrow? Imraan predicts we'll be dealing with Islamophobia regardless of our administration and from both sides of the political spectrum. To lead to real systemic change, CAIR—as well as those wanting to help—should focus on larger societal issues like police accountability, healthcare, affordable education, forever wars, and the minimum wage. Personally he will continue to be one of CAIR's leading social media campaigners, whereas his three sons will continue keeping him grounded by reminding him that not everything is about Islamophobia, Dad. If you, too, would like to help fight social inequalities, follow Imraan's frequent Tweets @imraansiddiqi and look up your local chapter of CAIR. This interview was recorded in March 2021. Imraan is a writer, activist and Executive Director of The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Arizona branch. He's also head of the Islamophobia tracking project Hate Hurts. Imraan explains how Islamophobia manifests in ways that go far beyond mere criticism of Islam, despite what folks like Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins would have you believe. He explains how Islam, despite not being a race, is racialized, with non-Muslims falling victim to Islamophobic attacks based on characteristics including race and national origin that are incorrectly perceived as Islamic. We discuss how the war on terror, even when dressed up in liberal rhetoric by politicians like Obama and Clinton, inevitably feeds Islamophobia by implicitly and explicitly devaluing Muslim lives. We also discuss how economic insecurity in working-class rural white communities, as well as in Muslim communities, creates fertile ground for hatred and fear-mongering. Defeating Islamophobia will ultimately require dramatic structural fixes, including ending the war on terror and seriously addressing wealth inequality. Follow Imraan on twitter at @imraansiddiqi.
