Ralph speaks to Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank about the Trump Administration's path of destruction in our federal government. Then, Ralph welcomes legendary public interest lawyer Alan Morrison to discuss the President's authority to impose tariffs and other constitutional questions.Dana Milbank is a nationally syndicated op-ed columnist for the Washington Post. He also provides political commentary for various TV outlets, and he is the author of five books on politics, including the New York Times bestseller The Destructionists and the national bestseller Homo Politicus. His latest book is Fools on the Hill: The Hooligans, Saboteurs, Conspiracy Theories and Dunces who Burned Down the House.I shouldn't be amazed, but Mike Johnson never ceases to amaze me with the rapidity with which he'll just drop to his knees whenever Trump says something.Dana MilbankWe're going to know this shortly, but it does appear that Trump's honeymoon may be over in the House as the conservatives finally seem to be finding their backbones. But I've thought that might happen before and then only to find out that they, in fact, they could not locate their backbones. So I don't want to be premature.Dana MilbankTrump seems to be gambling (and the administration seems to be gambling) that ultimately the Supreme Court is going to a wholesale reinterpretation of the Constitution to grant these never-before-seen executive powers, and it's possible that he's right about that. We're not going to know that. There have been a couple of preliminary rulings that seem friendly to Trump, but none of those is final, so we can't really be sure of it.Dana MilbankMy guess is that Chief Justice Roberts is seeing his legacy heading toward the ditch after his decision of Trump v. United States, where he said that Presidents cannot be criminally prosecuted….My guess is he's going to unpleasantly surprise Trump in the coming months.Ralph NaderAlan Morrison is the Lerner Family Associate Dean for Public Interest & Public Service at George Washington Law School. He currently teaches civil procedure and constitutional law, and previously taught at Harvard, NYU, Stanford, Hawaii, and American University law schools. He has argued 20 cases in the Supreme Court and co-founded the Public Citizen Litigation Group in 1972, which he directed for more than 25 years. It's inevitable that even for a non-economist like myself to understand that [the costs of tariffs] are going to be passed on. Other than Donald Trump, I don't think there's anybody who believes that these taxes are not going to be passed on and that they're going to be borne by the country from which the company did the exporting.Alan MorrisonIt's an uphill battle on both the statutory interpretation and the undue delegation grounds, but our position is rather simple: If the Congress doesn't write a statute so that there's something that the government can't order or do, then it's gone too far. In effect, it has surrendered to the President its power to set policy and do the legislative function. Interestingly, Trump has trumpeted the breadth of what he's doing here. He calls it a revolution. Well, if we have revolutions in this country, my copy of the Constitution says that the Congress has to enact revolution and the President can't do it on its own. So we think we've got a pretty strong case if we can get it to court.Alan MorrisonOne of the things that I've been struck by is that laws alone cannot make this country governable. That we can't write laws to cover every situation and every quirk that any person has, especially the President. We depend on the norms of government—that people will do things not exactly the way everybody did them before, but along the same general lines, and that when we make change, we make them in moderation, because that's what the people expect. Trump has shed all norms.Alan MorrisonNews 4/9/251. Our top story this week is the killing of Omar Mohammed Rabea, an American citizen in Gaza. Known as Amer, the BBC reports the 14-year-old was shot by the Israeli military along with two other 14-year-old boys “on the outskirts of Turmus Ayya” on Sunday evening. Predictably, the IDF called these children “terrorists.” According to NJ.com – Rabea formerly resided in Saddle Brook, New Jersey – Rabea's uncle sits on the board of a local Palestinian American Community Center which told the press “The ambulance was not allowed to pass the checkpoint for 30 minutes, a denial in medical treatment that ultimately resulted in Amer's death…[his] death was entirely preventable and horrifically unjust. He was a child, a 14-year-old boy, with an entire life ahead of him.” The Rachel Corrie Foundation, founded in honor of the American peace activist killed by an Israeli bulldozer while protesting the demolition of a Palestinian home, issued a statement reading “Rabea's death…was perpetuated by Israeli settlers who act with impunity…We believe that if our own government demanded accountability…Rabea would still be alive.” The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has sent a letter to Attorney General Bondi demanding an investigation, but chances of the Trump administration pursuing justice in this case are slim.2. Meanwhile, President Trump seems to be driving the U.S. economy into a deep recession. Following his much-publicized tariff announcement last week – which included 10% tariffs on uninhabited Heard and McDonald Islands – the S&P dipped by 10.5%, among the largest drops in history, per the New York Times. Far from making Trump back off however, he appears dead set on pushing this as far as it will go. After the People's Republic of China responded to the threat of a 54% tariff with a reciprocal 34% tariff, Trump announced the U.S. will retaliate by upping the tariff to a whopping 104% on Chinese imports, according to the BBC. Reuters reports that JP Morgan forecasts a 60% chance of a recession as a result of these tariffs.3. In more foreign affairs news, on Friday April 4th, South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol was officially removed from office by that country's Constitutional Court, “ending months of uncertainty and legal wrangling after he briefly declared martial law in December,” per CNN. The South Korean parliament had already voted to impeach Yoon in December of 2024. The court's decision was unanimous and characterized the leader's actions as a “grave betrayal of the people's trust.” Upon this ruling being handed down, Yoon was forced to immediately vacate the presidential residence. A new election is scheduled for June 3rd. Incredible what a political and judicial class unafraid to stand up to lawlessness can accomplish.4. Speaking of ineffectual opposition parties, one need look no further than Texas' 18th congressional district. This safe Democratic district – including most of central Houston – was held by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee from 1995 until her death in 2024. According to the Texas Tribune, Lee planned to run yet again in 2024, triumphing over her 43-year-old former aide Amanda Edwards in the primary. However, Lee passed in July of 2024. Edwards again sought the nomination, but the Harris County Democratic Party instead opted for 69-year-old former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, per the Texas Tribune. Turner made it to March of 2025 before he too passed away. This seat now sits vacant – depriving the residents of central Houston of congressional representation and the Democrats of a vote in the House. Governor Gregg Abbot has announced that he will not allow a special election before November 2025, the Texas Tribune reports. This is a stunning Democratic own-goal and indicative of the literal death grip the gerontocratic old guard continue to have on the party.5. One ray of hope is that Democratic voters appear to be waking up the ineffectual nature of the party leadership. A new Data for Progress poll of the 2028 New York Senate primary posed a hypothetical matchup between incumbent Senator Chuck Schumer and Democratic Socialist firebrand Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – and found AOC with a staggering lead of 19 points. This poll showed AOC winning voters under 45 by 50 points, over 45s by eight points, non-college educated by 16 points, college educated by 23 points, Black and white voters by 16 points, and Latinos by 28. Schumer led among self-described “Moderates” by 15 and no other group. It remains to be seen whether the congresswoman from Queens will challenge the Senate Minority Leader, but this poll clearly shows her popularity in the state of New York, and Schumer's abysmal reputation catching up with him.6. Another bright spot from New York, is Zohran Mamdani's mayoral candidacy and specifically his unprecedented field operation. According to the campaign, between April 1st and April 6th, volunteers knocked on 41,591 doors. No mayoral campaign in the history of the city has generated a grassroots movement of this intensity, with politicians traditionally relying on political machines or enormous war chests to carry them to victory. Mamdani has already reached the public financing campaign donation cap, so he can focus all of his time and energy on grassroots outreach. He remains the underdog against former Governor Andrew Cuomo, but his campaign appears stronger every day.7. Turning to the turmoil in the federal regulatory apparatus, POLITICO reports Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has eliminated the Freedom of Information Act offices at the Centers for Disease Control, and other HHS agencies. An anonymous source told the publication that HHS will consolidate its FOIA requests into one HHS-wide office, but “Next steps are still in flux.” In the meantime, there will be no one to fulfill FOIA requests at these agencies. This piece quotes Scott Amey, general counsel at the Project on Government Oversight, who said this “sends a wrong message to the public on the administration's commitment to transparency.” Amey added, “I often say that FOIA officers are like librarians in knowing the interactions of the agency…If you don't have FOIA officers with that specific knowledge, it will slow down the process tremendously.”8. At the Federal Trade Commission, Axios reports the Trump administration has “paused” the FTC's lawsuit against major pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs, related to “the drug middlemen…inflating the price of insulin and driving up costs to diabetes patients.” The case, filed against CVS Caremark, OptumRx and Express Scripts was halted by the FTC in light of “the fact that there are currently no sitting Commissioners able to participate in this matter.” That is because Trump unlawfully fired the two remaining Democratic commissioners Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Slaughter. In a statement, former FTC Chair Lina Khan called this move “A gift to the PBMs.”9. One federal regulatory agency that seems to be at least trying to do their job is the Federal Aviation Administration. According to the American Prospect, the FAA has “[has] proposed [a] rule that would mandate Boeing update a critical communications malfunction in their 787 Dreamliner plane that could lead to disastrous accidents.” As this piece explains, “very high frequency (VHF) radio channels are transferring between the active and standby settings without flight crew input.” The FAA's recommendation in is that Boeing address the issue with an update to the radio software. Yet disturbingly, in one of the comments on this proposed rule Qatar Airways claims that, “[they have] already modified all affected…airplanes with … [the recommended software updates] …However … flight crew are still reporting similar issues.” This comment ends with Qatar Airways stating that they believe, “the unsafe condition still exists.” Boeing planes have been plagued by critical safety malfunctions in recent years, most notably the 2018 and 2019 crashes that killed nearly 350 people.10. Finally, on a somewhat lighter note, you may have heard about Bryan Johnson, the tech entrepreneur dubbed “The Man Who Wants to Live Forever.” Johnson has attracted substantial media attention for his unorthodox anti-aging methods, including regular transfusions of plasma from his own son. But this story is not about Johnson's bizarre immortality obsession, but rather his unsavory corporate practices. A new piece in New York Magazine focuses on the lawsuits filed against Johnson by his all-too-mortal workers, represented by eminent labor lawyer Matt Bruenig. This piece relays how Johnson “required his staffers to sign 20-page NDAs,” and an “opt-in” document which informed his employees they had to be comfortable “being around Johnson while he has very little clothing on” and “discussions for media production including erotica (for example, fan fiction including but not limited to story lines/ideas informed by the Twilight series and-or 50 Shades of Grey.)” Bruenig says, “That stuff is weird,” but his main interest is in the nondisparagement agreements, including the one Johnson's former employee and former fiancée Taylor Southern entered into which has further complicated an already thorny legal dispute between Johnson and herself. Now Bruenig is fighting for Southern and against these blanket nondisparagement agreements in a case that could help define the limits of employer's power to control their workers' speech. Hopefully, Bruenig will prevail in showing that Johnson, whatever his pretensions, truly is a mere mortal. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. New York (VINnews)— Alan Skorski sat down with Jeff Lax, a professor at CUNY Law and board member, to discuss allegations of antisemitism within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lax, who is also the founder of SAFE Campus, has been vocal in exposing what he describes as deep-rooted antisemitism at the university's highest levels, including the controversial hiring of Saly Abd Alla, a member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), to oversee antisemitism allegations. The interview escalated when Skorski questioned Lax about his recent appearance on Peter Beinart's social platform to debate antisemitism on college campuses. Beinart, a well-known critic of Israel, has often spoken to Jewish student groups across the U.S., drawing criticism from pro-Israel advocates. During their discussion, Beinart questioned why Lax had protested a Hunter College job posting seeking instructors to teach about Israel as a “settler-colonial state,” engaging in “apartheid” and “genocide.” Lax discredited Hunter College's stance and challenged Beinart on these allegations, forcing a tense exchange. The debate reached a pivotal moment when Lax pressed Beinart to label Hamas as a terrorist organization, which Beinart refused to do, claiming such a designation was racist and unfairly applied to Palestinians. Lax pointed out the inaccuracy of this claim, ultimately boxing Beinart into a rhetorical corner. Alan Skorski Reports 25MAR2025 - PODCAST

Palestinians point to Israel's retention of 600+ bodies after Trump's remark "Palestinians are pushing back against US President Donald Trump's fiery demand that Hamas return Israeli captives and bodies of those killed, reminding him that Israel has long been keeping hundreds of bodies of Palestinians. According to multiple media sources, Israel is holding 665 bodies, including those of 59 children. Israeli officials say they keep Palestinian bodies as leverage — to deter attacks, to trade in future negotiations. Palestinians and human rights groups call it something else — collective punishment." Ukraine, US to hold talks next week to end war "President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would travel to Saudi Arabia and his team would stay on to hold talks with US officials about ending the war between Ukraine and Russia. The talks follow a letter from Zelenskyy to US President Donald Trump. "There was an apology, there was an acknowledgment that the United States has done so much for the country of Ukraine, and a sense of gratitude,"" US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff told reporters in describing the tone of Zelenskyy's letter." EU leaders agree to boost defence following decades of hesitation "European Union leaders have committed to a massive step in defence cooperation following decades of hesitation. The 27 leaders signed off on a move on Thursday to loosen budget restrictions so willing EU countries can increase military spending. They also urged the European Commission, the EU's executive branch, to explore new ways to facilitate significant defence spending in all member states, a statement said." CAIR urges Muslim immigrants not to leave US ahead of potential Trump ban "The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) warned regular immigrants in the US not to travel overseas this month ahead of potential President Donald Trump's Muslim travel ban. CAIR Government Affairs Director said they do not know ""for sure"" whether the administration will issue a new ban or which countries would be targeted. CAIR encourages the Trump administration to reconsider any plans to impose any new total travel bans on Muslim-majority countries under the guise of protecting national security, the official said." Turkish researcher to study women astronauts' health on all-female spaceflight "Begum Aydogan Mathyk, an obstetrics and gynecology researcher at the University of South Florida, will investigate the health of an all-women flight team scheduled for 2026. Underlining the lack of studies on women's health in space, she pointed out that while animal reproduction studies have been conducted in space, her approach is different. Mathyk highlighted the importance of moving women's health studies from Earth to space, as the long-term effects of space on women astronauts' reproductive health and hormonal systems remain unknown."

Hamas announces halt in talks until Israel frees Palestinian prisoners "Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi announced the resistance group would halt negotiations with Israel until Palestinian prisoners held by Tel Aviv are released. The decision comes after Israel cancelled freeing of 620 Palestinian prisoners, initially set for Saturday. The United States backed Israel's decision. Separately, Israel has heightened its military readiness near Gaza, while President Donald Trump reaffirmed support for Israel's war on enclave." Germany's Christian political alliance declares election victory "Germany's opposition leader, Friedrich Merz, declared victory as projections showed his Christian conservative political alliance securing 28.5 percent of the vote, surging past rivals. Merz urged swift coalition talks to restore Germany's leadership. Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democratic Party SPD, suffered a historic defeat at 16.5 percent, while the far-right Alternative for Germany AfD, soared to 20.6 percent. Coalition negotiations remain uncertain, with smaller parties struggling to meet the 5 percent threshold. Voter turnout hit a record high of 84 percent." US pushes for Ukraine-Russia peace deal based on Istanbul pact "The US says it is ""very close"" to brokering a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, modeled after the Istanbul Protocol Agreement, says Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff. Speaking to CNN, he stressed that the war was ""provoked"" and must end. Meanwhile, Ukraine has resisted US pressure to withdraw its European-backed UN resolution demanding Russia's withdrawal, according to officials, setting the stage for a high-stakes vote on Monday." CAIR condemn Musk's claim that US Muslim aid groups are terrorists "The Council on American-Islamic Relations CAIR has condemned Elon Musk for amplifying claims that US Muslim aid groups receiving USAID funds are “terrorist organisations.” CAIR warns that such rhetoric fuels Islamophobia and puts Muslim Americans at risk. Musk's post targeted over a dozen nonprofits, including Islamic Relief and Palestine Children's Relief Fund. ""Anyone who sees the word 'Islam' in the name of an American charity and then immediately declares that the charity must be a 'terrorist organisation' is a hateful person,"" CAIR said." Thousands gather in Beirut to mourn Hezbollah leaders killed by Israel "People gathered in Beirut to mourn the late Hezbollah leaders, Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine. Hezbollah's Naim Qassem condemned Israel for breaching a ceasefire deal and stressed the group's readiness to defend Lebanon. The funeral comes after a fragile ceasefire, marking the end of intense clashes between Israel and Hezbollah. Despite Israel's delayed withdrawal, Qassem vowed that neither Israel nor the US would pressure Lebanon into submission. The fallen leaders were assassinated in September and October of 2024."

This Day in Legal History: Camp David AccordsOn September 11, 1978, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat reached a historic agreement at Camp David, laying the foundation for peace between Israel and Egypt. The Camp David Accords, brokered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, marked the first time an Arab nation had agreed to recognize Israel, a significant diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East. The accords outlined a framework for peace that included the eventual return of the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt, which had been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Six-Day War, and the establishment of normalized diplomatic and economic relations. The agreement was formalized in the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty, signed in 1979. This peace treaty not only ended decades of conflict between the two nations but also set a precedent for future Arab-Israeli negotiations. The accords earned Sadat and Begin the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978, though Sadat's willingness to make peace with Israel led to his assassination in 1981 by Egyptian extremists. Despite challenges, the treaty has endured, making Egypt the first Arab country to formally make peace with Israel, reshaping geopolitics in the region and establishing the U.S. as a key mediator in Middle East peace efforts.A recent American Bar Association (ABA) survey reveals that financial stress and anxiety affect two-thirds of young lawyers, with student loan debt significantly shaping their career and life choices. The survey, conducted by the ABA's Young Lawyers Division and AccessLex Institute, found that 68% of respondents with student loans felt stressed or anxious due to their debt, while 67% of all young lawyers, regardless of loans, reported financial stress. Many respondents, particularly those owing $100,000 or more, said their debt led to feelings of depression or hopelessness. The survey also showed that student debt delays major life events like marriage and homeownership for 76% of participants. Most respondents borrowed for law school, with a median debt of $137,500. Additionally, 27% reported owing more now than at graduation due to income-based repayment plans. Despite financial challenges, 74% of young lawyers would still pursue a law degree, and 65% would attend the same law school. Public service loan forgiveness programs and Biden administration debt relief efforts have provided some support, though many obstacles remain.Financial stress and anxiety plagues two-thirds of young lawyers, ABA survey finds | ReutersThe U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote on a six-month stopgap funding bill proposed by Republican Speaker Mike Johnson, aimed at preventing a government shutdown before the fiscal year ends on September 30. The bill faces opposition from Democrats, primarily due to a provision that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote, a measure seen as politically charged ahead of the November elections. Former President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to pass this voting measure. However, some Republicans oppose the stopgap due to spending concerns, and two Republicans joined Democrats in blocking a procedural vote to advance the bill.If passed in the House, the bill faces an uphill battle in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the proposal as overly partisan, while the White House has indicated President Biden would veto the bill. Biden's administration is pushing for a shorter funding extension and more disaster relief funding. Two of the five officers have pleaded guilty to federal civil rights charges, leaving three facing trial, where they could face life in prison if convicted. The incident reignited concerns about racism and police brutality in the U.S., prompting reforms in Memphis, such as disbanding the specialized police unit involved in the incident and implementing stricter traffic stop protocols. The officers also face second-degree murder charges in a separate state case, which has been postponed until after the federal trial. Nichols' family has filed a $550 million lawsuit against the city, seeking damages to push for further changes in police practices nationwide. In response to the assault, additional officers were either fired or suspended, and several fire department employees involved in the incident were also dismissed.Three Memphis police officers go on trial in death of Tyre Nichols | ReutersThe Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has filed a civil rights complaint on behalf of University of Georgia students, alleging discrimination against individuals of Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim descent. According to CAIR, pro-Palestinian students faced harassment following the escalation of conflict in Gaza, and the university failed to adequately address or prevent this discrimination. The University of Georgia responded by emphasizing its support for free speech and non-discrimination policies, while also maintaining that it enforces rules against policy violations. The complaint comes amid widespread protests across U.S. campuses concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which have seen instances of both antisemitic and Islamophobic rhetoric. Its collective goal is to alter and undermine our national character, traditions, and laws so much that it can overthrow our Constitutional republican form of government without firing a shot.   The alliance allows each to take advantage of the tactics, strategies, and cultural features of the other, and mobilizes a vastly larger number of people. For example, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) now supports Black Lives Matter (BLM) and participates in its protests. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) also work with BLM, CAIR, and open borders groups.Immigration is one of the Red-Green Axis's most effective tools. Under the banner of "compassion," it advocates for open borders and endless waves of refugees, asylum seekers, and other third-world immigrants to stress government budgets at all levels, overburden communities with medical, language, crime, welfare, and other burdens, while rhetorically and sometimes physically attacking those who object, calling opponents "racists," "bigots," "xenophobes," and the latest innovation, "Islamophobes."   This second edition of the Red-Green Axis delves deeply into the immigration/refugee resettlement issue to catalog not only the breadth and depth of the program and its supporters, but to expose the massive problems and cultural changes that have been created, I believe deliberately, as the key element in the Axis agenda to erase America as we know it.   RED UNIONS: How & Why Big Labor Leaders Betray Their Nation Jan 28, 2014 by James Simpson How did unionism in America develop? What were the various forces at work? What is going on now. This pamphlet will tell you everything you want to know, and probably some things you don't want to know about unions in America today. It includes many surprising facts and data not publicly available eslewhere.   It offers a brief history of the American union movement, and the individuals and ideas that created it. It discusses unions' ugly turn to the left in recent years, the reintroduction of communists into the leadership ranks, and the extensive destruction and political corruption that has occurred as a result.   It reviews the economics of unionism and why, over the long run, unions will fail to provide promised benefits to members, and instead only serve to dramatically reshape and sometimes destroy industries.   Public employee unons present problems all their own. They engender creation of a symbiotic relationship between the union and its political supporters, inevitably leading to the corruption of the political process.   The most recent glaring example of this was the Wisconsin experience, where modest proposals for public union reform practically brought the state to a standstill. Though they lost miserably, the unions are still fighting this one, while Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker turned a $3.6 billion deficit into a surplus with his first budget, directly as a result of union reform.   Meanwhile unions have changed. Unions struggled to purge themselves of communists in the 1940s and 1950s and unions were associated with blue collar conservatism for decades. In 1995, however, union officials lifted the ban on allowing communists in leadership positions. This new nexus of the radical left and union activists, along with the election of President Obama, has seen union activity on behalf of politicians increased to an unprecedented level.   The Red-Green Axis: Refugees, Immigration and the Agenda to Erase America (Civilization Jihad Reader Series Book 4) Jun 8, 2015 by James Simpson In this extraordinary study, investigative reporter Jim Simpson builds upon – and adds considerable detail to – the research conducted by Ann Corcoran. Her blog, Refugee Resettlement Watch, has become an indispensable resource for those concerned with the UN-directed and U.S. government-enabled colonization of America, all too often by unscreened aliens. Like Ms. Corcoran's monograph in this Civilization Jihad Reader Series, Refugee Resettlement and the Hijra to America, the present volume pulls back the curtain on a practice that has been going on for years with a view to, in President Obama's words, “fundamentally transform” America.   Mass migration and colonization seeks to “erase America.” It is enabled by myriad legal US immigration programs but most especially the refugee resettlement program, its contractors and subcontractors, left-wing philanthropies and activists. For those who love this country, its Constitution and freedoms, the picture Jim Simpson paints is alarming. It must be a catalyst for concerted action to prevent such an outcome. This monograph offers practical suggestions for mounting an effective resistance.   CASA de Maryland: A Case Study in Subversion and Corruption at the Highest Levels Apr 19, 2015 by James Simpson This book describes a notorious subversive organization in Maryland that nonetheless has the attention and support of many Maryland politicians. On the ground in Minnesota, CAIR-MN has long been a community driven voice against systemic racism that targets Black, Muslim and other racialized communities. CAIR-MN is an interesting and important organization as it is both involved in street level mobilizations, but also fights for communities impacted by such systems of violence within the context of pushing for reform and specific legislation that undercuts systemic racism. Given the significant Somali community in Minnesota CAIR's work is very important in defending the human rights of people and communities who both experience systemic racism as Black people and as Muslim people. Imraan Siddiqi, born in Alabama and raised in Atlanta, has always been a proud Muslim. Growing up in a city that was both a major civil rights player and part of the Bible Belt—with most households engrossed in religion—he felt at home sharing his Islamic faith and accepted for declining alcohol and dating. Now the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington State, he spends his days working to protect cultural and religious freedoms. He joins us on AMP to discuss the organization and its efforts to combat Islamophobia. CAIR is the largest Muslim civil liberties organization in the States and works to advocate for victims of discrimination, improve media representation, and lobby for policy change. As the former Executive Director in Arizona, Imraan faced quite a bit of opposition and relays his experiences there versus his new position based in Seattle—a “really welcoming environment for Muslim activism.” We discuss his recent championing of two individuals kicked off a plane at Sea-Tac for speaking Arabic and texting emojis. Imraan defines Islamophobia and provides the historical and contemporary contexts for its development. More surprisingly, even to us, he details the multimillion-dollar industry dedicated to inciting anti-Islamic sentiment via harassment and vandalism but also in city councils, school boards, and the federal government. He names organizations that have been successful in portraying Islam through the lens of terrorism and delivers this takeaway: Money and hate go hand in hand. As for tomorrow? Imraan predicts we'll be dealing with Islamophobia regardless of our administration and from both sides of the political spectrum. To lead to real systemic change, CAIR—as well as those wanting to help—should focus on larger societal issues like police accountability, healthcare, affordable education, forever wars, and the minimum wage. Personally he will continue to be one of CAIR's leading social media campaigners, whereas his three sons will continue keeping him grounded by reminding him that not everything is about Islamophobia, Dad. If you, too, would like to help fight social inequalities, follow Imraan's frequent Tweets @imraansiddiqi and look up your local chapter of CAIR. This interview was recorded in March 2021. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (10/15/20), Hank brings up an article he read this week, titled “Harris' Ties to Leading Anti-Israel Group Draws Scrutiny.” This reminded Hank of Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden's address to the Million Muslim Votes Summit, an event hosted by Emgage, an organization founded and led by the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, including Emgage's current Co-Chairperson Khurrum Wahid, a former legal advisor to the Hamas-linked radical Muslim organization Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). During his address, Biden lauds Islam as “one of the great confessional faiths” and “wish[es] we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith.” As noted in the article, Biden's running mate Kamala Harris seems enamored with Islam as well. In fact, she has gone out of her way to laud Islam, most notably CAIR, writing in a personal letter to the organization, “Please accept my gratitude and admiration for your tireless work to promote peace, justice, and mutual understanding.” For Harris to say that CAIR promotes “peace, justice, and mutual understanding” is what is referred to in Islam as taqiyya—religious dissimulation. Although CAIR is notorious for its practice of taqiyya, many U.S. politicians like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Talib, have no problem aligning with a group that supports provocative tactics and the terrorism that flow from such tactics. If there is a glimmer of optimism in all of this, it is the hopeful possibility that there may be millions of devout Muslims who could not so much as imagine trodding the path of Taqiyya. In concert with multitudes of non-Muslims, devotees likely regard the religious dissimilation tactics of Biden, Harris, and CAIR to be cringeworthy at best. For further information see Hank's Book MUSLIM: What You Need to Know About the World's Fastest Growing Religion https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-muslim-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-worlds-fastest-growing-religion/Hank also answers the following questions:What is the proper posture for prayer?I've heard a lot about Obama's views towards Israel and things of that nature, but haven't heard many pastors bring up Trump's views towards minorities.
