Your emotions, all of them, the ones you like and the ones you don't, are yours and you are allowed to feel them, all of them, without shame and guilt. That being said, your emotions don't define you. Dr. Shahana Alibhai teaches us how to break down our different emotions, peacefully and lovingly, and accept all of them without judgment, while still knowing the ones we would prefer to have as our base state. Each emotion has a beginning, middle, and end. Sit with your feelings as they come instead of trying to hide them. We so often get mad at ourselves when we feel something negative and rush to mask it with a positive thought, while feeling shame and guilt for emoting in a way we think we shouldn't. It is okay to show yourself love and compassion throughout your entire human experience, no matter what emotion or thought arises. Emotions are your signposts—they're trying to direct your next steps. When you sit in a feeling, lovingly and free of judgment, and acknowledge that you are ready to move out of it, even if you don't know how, you are helping all the parts of your mind know it is ready to move into something different, something better. In the past year, we've seen some truly alarming statistics when it comes to the workforce. A study by Gallup & ADP Research revealed that only 14% to 20% of employees are fully engaged. Another by Microsoft stated that 41% of the workforce are considering quitting their job. There is no doubt that the future of work needs to be focused more on the employee. Meet Shahana Banerjee, Founder of Just Human | Not Resources (JHNR), whose mission is humanizing work, culture & leadership. Shahana shares her story of starting JHNR because although many companies talk about people being their greatest asset, they rarely act like it. She believes in seeing people as people, as complete human beings, not as ‘resources' or ‘assets'. Prior to founding JHNR, Shahana spent more than two decades in human resources leadership roles in some of the worlds' largest companies, growing multibillion dollar businesses, transforming cultures and coaching leaders. In this episode, Shahana shares why she chose human resources as a career path, how to tell if you are actively managing your personal brand, and advice to CEOs who might be hesitant to embrace change and the new world of work. Tomorrow marks 20 years since 9/11. The terrorist attack caused a ripple effect that has influenced many parts of American history and culture, but it also fueled a rise in Islamophobia. We hear from Shahana Hanif how two decades of anti-Muslim bias has hurt and transformed the lives of American Muslims. When the attack happened, Hanif was a 10-year-old growing up in Brooklyn. Today, she lives in Brooklyn and is running for New York City Council, where she is likely to become the first Muslim woman ever to serve. And in headlines: the Justice Department sues Texas over its anti-abortion law, Biden mandates vaccines for all federal government employees and contractors, and Facebook and Ray-Ban team up to make high-tech glasses. Meet Shahana (English) & Hari (American-Indian) When recording this episode end of 2020 Shahana and Hari were reunited in England and quarantining together after being apart for 10 months. They suddenly spent 24/7 together in a small cottage. Hari is describing how much he is enjoying the little things right now [03:20] such as cooking for her. We also talked of how they met each other. Back in 2017, when Hari was still a monk - they saw each other for the first time in a temple in Germany. Even though if it was not common talking to women as a monk, just if they are providing some sort of service as Hari describes it - he started talking to her [08:10]. Instantly they both felt this energy and when Shahana returned home she instantly sent him a friendship request on Facebook - which was rejected by Hari. He was afraid that Shahana might cost him his monkhood [08:45]. Shahana then would visit the temple again in 2018 thinking, that he just does not like her. While he was hoping Shahana might show up as a single woman. But also in that year both tried to avoid each other, even though there was still this sparkle[12:17]. It is only when Hari gives up being a monk that an incredibly romantic love story begins [15:00]. When deciding to quit he consulted his mentor to ask for advice. Next thing he remembers was sending a Facebook request to Shahana. Since 2019 they are a couple and things develop fast. Shahana met Hari's family in India, and they approved for the next step [17:23]. Seeing both of them together while recording this episode was emotional and energizing. This episode in general is full of love. Did you feel the same way? We are looking forward to your feedback. I believe a collective healing happens when people from that collective share their stories out loud, when the story no longer remains untold, hushed, and forgotten. For many of the women I interviewed, no one had asked them about the story of their first period, it was a forgotten story one not to be brought up… I was honoured to hear them tell their stories for the first time. This collection of first period stories, I see it as a healing circle, but also as an archive of stories for those who have not yet stepped into their cycle. There is a power and beauty in sharing our stories…. WANT TO SHARE YOU 1st PERIOD STORY? Sharing connects us to each other, and has the power to bind us and heal us. There are two way to go about it. You can either send me a video of around 2-3min, looking straight into the camera and sharing your first period story. Or you can send me a picture of you around the time you got you first period along with your written story.
