As Chair and CEO of Warner Bros., Ann Misiaszek Sarnoff became the first female to serve as a Studio head in the entertainment industry. Ann is truly a trail blazer, an inspiration to young and old to prove that hard work, determination and persistence far outshine the traits championed in the age of immediacy. Ann was named head of WarnerMedia’s Studios and Networks Group in August 2020. In this role, she is responsible for all of WarnerMedia’s content-focused teams, uniting the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, HBO and HBOMax, the Warner Bros. Television Group, DC, kids/young adults/classics (Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, TCM, Cartoon Network Studios, WB Animation), TBS, TNT, TruTV, Wizarding World, consumer products and gaming, to work together across titles, brands and franchises. An unmatched collection of world-class brands and content creators.Sarnoff brings more than 30 years of business and media experience to this post, as she guides the Studios and Networks Group in support of WarnerMedia’s mission to engage and delight the global audience with innovative, engaging entertainment content.I grew up in the same town as Ann and we graduated from high school together. We talk about our time growing up in a small town in western Massachusetts, her influences and her path to becoming one of the most successful women in the United States or world today. In this episode Saul and Jolene talk about Shadowrun 5th Edition. Saul started running Shadowrun back in the early 1990's. He ran a campaign that lasted a couple summers. He loved the setting which was a mix of William Gibson's Neuromancer and the magical world of Tolkien. Jolene discovered Shadowrun last year at a Gaming Flea market where she encountered a few Shadowrun books and asked me if I had ever heard of it. She had bought me four or five supplements. She was enticed by the art and the story elements of the setting. I dugout my old 1st Edition books and set to re-reading the books. I had acquired the newest edition on PDF in a charity bundle a few years before. But I like physical books and bought one online. This 5th edition book is massive. I was shocked how the latest writers went against the latest trend in rpgs of making them simpler and streamlined. Shadowrun 5th edition did not go in that direction and doubled down on the crunch in my opinion. Even so I decided to offer the game to our group they jumped at playing and on New Years Eve of 2018 I ran my first session in over 25 years. It was a HUGE hit with everyone. Even if the rules crunch was intimidating the setting and genre was much too good to resist and they wanted to play again. We just finished another session and it looks like it will now be the game our group will play in our Saturday game. So after you make a snack run at the local Stuffer Shack Chummer sit down with your favorite soycaff, turn on your Augmented Reality to high(whether you use AR glasses or just connect to your cybernetic eyes) and lets talk about Shadowrun. As always thank all of you for listening and all we ask is that you share with your friends, family and on your social networks to get our podcast to as many listeners as possible. Thanks again. We use the Shadowrun character generator Chummer 5. It is a free resource that you can find and download for free just search for Chummer 5 Here is a very good start to a series of videos on how to play Shadowrun 5th Edition by the charming Lauren Bond. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvEEmCPQgy8&list=PLArPinp0lXCuTbptzAktglQi-DIVXeIiV Here is another series by Aaron Der Schaedel. Not a polished as the above videos but still very informative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek_zr666sV8&list=PLArPinp0lXCuTbptzAktglQi-DIVXeIiV&index=11 Music by Jan Morgenstern, song Chasing Shadows off the album The Secret Number. Outland 1313 Part One Betty has been stranded on Outland 1313 for over 100 days, surviving on nothing but meager stolen scraps, defending herself with whatever the landscape offers. She treks through torrential rainstorms and over an unforgiving volcanic landscape to sneak into the vile “Blood Hound’s” encampment for food. But today is different. Betty, possibly the only survivor of the surveyor spaceship called, The Scout, sees an opportunity to escape. A mining ship, being stripped of its oar and miners is a common occurrence on Outland 1313, but when Betty sees a miner making a daring escape, her own chances of survival instantly double. If she can just get him to safety. But there is one problem, while the mining ship had been under attack for several days, Travis was unable to take his prescribed inhibitors, and now his libido is coming back with a vengeance. Betty is forced to take the miner’s “problem” into her own hands. It is not a secret that in the 21st century, information is crucial. In a disaster scenario this statement becomes even stronger, since up-to-date information might save lives. In the project "Collaborative microdrones" we use small aerial robots to provide such information to the rescue team. It is an overview image of a disaster scene and is updated over time. This thesis is about an algorithm to compute paths that the robots will follow. The video explains how the whole system works. The Base Station on the ground (lady in black) constructs the paths and commands a Drone (lady in red) where to fly. Following this path the Drone takes pictures at the specified points and sends them to the Base Station. Whenever the Drone runs out of energy, it can renew it at the Station. Eventually the whole area is covered possibly multiple times if necessary. The advantage of my algorithm is that it is fast (can be executed during the rescue mission) and considers real-life constraints like limited energy.
