Check out the new Blueprint for Kentucky’s Children issue brief released today by Kentucky Youth Advocates, Data Trends and Policy Recommendations to Address the Impact of Maternal Incarceration on Kentucky’s Children, which shows that the number of women incarcerated has grown at an alarming pace in Kentucky in recent decades and that women incarcerated are more likely to be a parent and to be incarcerated for a drug offense. Jennifer Hancock from HumanistLearning.com wants to teach you humanistic business management, which means you integrate ethics and critical thinking when dealing with team members, contractors, or even cranky customers. Stop rewarding bad behavior, and instead, examine how you respond (and what you reinforce), use confident body language, and finally, be calm, measured, and direct. Jennifer says that angry customers respond in one of three stats: a child state (where you respond that you want to help but need to wait until they calm down), an adult state (where they are calm and professional), or a depressed state (where they "ghost" you).

Corporate Talk with Charlie & Eva with guest Jennifer Hancock & Milo Shapiro Jennifer Hancock The best way to describe what I do is to say – I give really good advice. On what? Well, just about everything from bullies to business to parenting to how to deal with difficult people. My fans and customers are rarely specific about what I did for them, preferring to tell me that I simply transformed their lives and that they approach everything differently now. The best part is that everything I teach is practical, pragmatic and easy to understand and put into practice. The most common comment I get is “why didn't I think of that.” I am one of the few individuals in America who was raised as a Humanist. I am considered one of the top writers and speakers in the Humanist world today. I'm experienced in both the corporate and non-profit sectors which makes me an ideal guest or teacher for just about any audience. In 2000, after 15 years of computer programming and system analysis, Milo took a huge leap from the safety of that realm into the world of my passion: sharing the power & lessons of improvisation in the business world. I had seen in my improv classes over the previous ten years how the lessons carried over into everyone's lives. For me, it made me a creative programmer who could listen better to my clients and negotiate better solutions. At heart, I always was an improviser.
Jennifer Hancock joins host Craig Price to discuss the workings of workplace bullies. If you've ever dealt with workplace bullies or have seen them in action, you know that they can be relentless, draining and frustrating people. And like a virus, their obnoxiousness can be debilitating. Which is why she wrote The Bully Vaccine: How to Innoculate Yourself Against Bullies and Other Petty People. Jennifer and Craig talk about how to treat bullies (slapping them upside the head is a no-no. Whodathunkit??), techniques you can use to stop bullying effectively, how bullies and untrained animals are not dissimilar and other things you can do to stop bullying in the workplace. There are also some great tips on how kids can stop bullies as well. Her book provides very specific and practical information on how exactly to go about ending bullying. The more you understand about the dynamic of what is happening, the better able you will be able to help yourself navigate the social situations you find yourself in. And the sooner you learn these skills, the better off you are going to be. You can learn more about Jennifer at her aptly named website http://www.jen-hancock.com and her book can be found at Amazon.com
HR Happy Hour 163 - 'Bullying and the Workplace' PRE-RECORDED Wednesday, May 22, 2013 This week the HR Happy Hour Show/Podcast is back with a fresh episode recorded earlier this week -'Bullying and the Workplace' with guest Jennifer Hancock. Jennifer shared ideas on how to define and identify bullying, insights behind the root causes of these behaviors, and some specific and relevant ideas about how the victims of bullying can deal with bullies. Chances are someone you know, maybe even your own child, or a colleague at work is facing these kinds of challenges. In 1765, the author of an anonymous article in a French Enlightenment periodical spoke of "The general love of humanity ... a virtue hitherto quite nameless among us, and which we will venture to call ‘humanism’, for the time has come to create a word for such a beautiful and necessary thing." Today on Skepticality, Swoopy talks with author and Humanist Jennifer Hancock about her book, "The Humanist Approach to Happiness", a practical guide to living an ethical, compassionate and happy life that outlines critical thinking and common sense human solutions to everyday human problems.
