This Thanksgiving, my guest is none other than World and National Champion, JJ Racaza. He only had an hour so we had to make it brief. Next time, we can take our time and really delve into his background and how it led him to where he is today. Here is the Cliff Notes version. Enjoy!! https://www.instagram.com/jjracaza/
Send us a textForgive the long break we've been busy! Finally had the chance to sit down and talk story about what we have been up to. We covered a ton: our homie Justin's new company, Paratus Apparel (Paratus) which launched a new concealed carry option with some style, how excited we are to join the Howitzer Clothing Pro Staff (Prostaff - Howitzer Clothing) and the amazing work Eric and his team are doing in the 2A community, Ethan's competition journey and how he views its impact on his training and development as a shooter, a quick recap of some of Jarrod's major match experiences this year and where his training is currently focused and our upcoming Veteran's day fundraiser. We also covered the new blasters we are playing with, including some of Ethan's journey in "gatsmithing" as he customizes an affordable 2011 contender, and of course the new Beretta 92xi Squalo from Langdon Tactical we are all running. And... who can forget, the "ugly gun" that shoots like a beauty queen - you will have to listen to get the details! We are proud to be sponsored by ProTech knives. We get into specifics of each division. The dominance of JJ Racaza's win, as well as Michael Poggie. The down to the last stage wins by John Vlieger and Joey Sauerland. Finally, we discuss the Handgun World Shoot Teams that have been decided to this point.
We hosted JJ this week and of course had to take the opportunity to sit down with him and recap the recent 2024 Carry Optics Nationals. JJ finished 8th overall and 5th among the Americans competing for the National Title. JJ was on the same squad with Team CZ which included the overall match winner and JJ's friend Eric Grauffel. JJ recaps his match, the absolutely stacked field of competitors, and discusses some lessons learned. If you haven't seen JJ's video uploads of his stages from the match, including his breakdowns, you are missing out and need to check out his Instagram. You can find JJ on Instagram at: jj Racaza (@jjracaza) • Instagram photos and videos We are proud to be sponsored by ProTech knives. In this episode of TFB's Behind the Gun Podcast, we've brought on Richard Mo from Raven Wing Limited - a Los Angeles-based training company that offers firearms training ranging from basic pistol marksmanship up to more advanced carbine, pistol, and night vision training. In recent times, obtaining reliable firearms training has become a paradoxical endeavor, offering both convenience and challenges. While numerous reputable training companies exist, an equal number of unsafe or ineffective ones are preying on unsuspecting customers. Among the finest in the industry are Mo and his company, Raven Wing Limited, along with their network of well-known collaborators. They provide a diverse array of courses, ranging from fundamental firearms handling to advanced pistol and carbine training. Additionally, they offer personalized consultations and even night vision courses for those who have taken a liking to night-time range sessions. Operating from Los Angeles, California, one might expect Raven Wing to face fierce competition with hundreds of other well-known firearms trainers in the immediate area. However, they have adopted a unique approach by welcoming other trainers, including renowned figures like Scott Jedlinski from the Modern Samurai Project, Tim Herron Shooting, and JJ Racaza, previously featured on TFBTV. Today, we are joined by Mo to delve into the prevailing training trends in the firearms world. He will shed light on the preferred types of guns, optics, and holsters people are using for both competitive shooting and self-defense, as we progress nearly a quarter of the way through the 21st century. Please welcome Mo from Raven Wing Limited to the show! Raven Wing on Instagram Raven Wing on Facebook Raven Wing on YouTube Raven Wing Website - Sign up for Classes Here!
Have you ever wanted to shoot fast? Or get better at your Bill Drills? Do you know what a Bill Drill is? That's 6 shots at 7 yards landing them in the A-zone of a USPSA target. The standard goal is all 6 in under 2 seconds. That is speed and accuracy. Competitive shooter Isaac Lockwood is going for supersonic. 6 shots in under a second. He is close. At last year's Bill Drill Challenge at Nationals, he did the 6 shots in 1.23 seconds. This weekend he goes back to Carry Optics Nationals and will face the winner of this year's challenge. Isaac thinks he can do it. Isaac is a former law enforcement officer from California who now shoots and teaches all the time. He also is a pro staff member of Howitzer Clothing and shares that position with shooting greats such as JJ Racaza and Max Michel. In this episode, you hear: –How Isaac is able to get the shots off in such a short amount of time. –How Isaac prepares for a National Championship. –What Isaac practices when he goes to the range. The most amazing thing about world champion JJ Racaza is not just his shooting ability, but his humility. He works hard to make sure his students understand his concepts, and he always takes the time to reveal the nuggets of instruction. Those nuggets are gold. I've trained three times with JJ and spoke to him on this podcast before. I feel like I grew as a shooter each time, however, this past class I had some amazing revelations about my shooting. Now I have to continue with the training. JJ started shooting as a teen and has won numerous championships in practical pistol and steel challenge. He also found time to serve in law enforcement as well as becoming a highly sought-after trainer. Links mentioned in the show: Last show with JJ JJ's Instagram

On day 6 of Nationals, presented by Beretta, we sit down with pro shooter, JJ Racaza to recap his time spent with SASP athletes at their National Championship.
Unlike Area 1, we're always on.. Well, except for Steve. He's a bit water logged from drinking all the natty ice. So it's Kenny, Tom and Robert tonight. Ruben Garcia I'll be shooting my first Nats this year, any recommendations on how to prepare? David Blanton Odds that nationals happens with COVID resurgence Chris Lokey Wanted to say how awesome it was That Kenny started a new shooter club. Wish them all the success. Brandon Boyd From your experience what makes a fun and interesting stage? Gabriel Johnson What is the best option for slowing down entering a position? Big slowing steps like Charlie Perez teaches? Or, Flutter steps like JJ Racaza? Mark Miller Best static drills, unable to run around (recovery from surgery) but i can stand and shoot. Nate Osborne Likely you listened to the interview on practical shooting after dark with the area 2 director. I would be interested to hear your opinions on some of the topics they discussed. Should you be required to be a USPSA member to shoot matches? Should USPSA HQ be doing any more for local club's, marketing, etc.? Or are you happy with the current situation? What were your thoughts on seeing USPSA as a business? Should they be more actively marketing and trying to expand the sport? I just found the entire show to be very interesting, and wondered if you all had any thoughts on the topics.
