Beide hatten dreissig Jahre Erfahrungen auf der Bühne hinter sich, als Corona dem Treiben ein Ende setzte. Michael Sailer versuchte in einem „heimlichen Garten“ durchzuhalten. Da traf er auf Franz Esser. Aus der Begegnung wurde ein neuer Anfang mit gemeinsamen Projekten und neue Formaten. Franz Esser, der Musiker, greift dabei auf ein Spektrum zurück, das von Degenhardt-Liedern und Schlagern bis hin zu Popsongs und Minihörspielen reicht. Michael Sailer, der „Büchernarr“, schreibt kritische Kommentare zu der „Chronik der laufenden Ereignisse“, die man wegen ihrer besonderen Beobachtungsgabe und Detailgenauigkeit mit den Aufzeichnungen von Victor Klemperer vergleichen kann. Beide sind nach der Corona-Krise wieder vor einem immer größer werdenden Publikum aktiv, lauter und lustiger denn je.

„Jedes Leben zählt!“ Wie entlarvend dieser Propaganda-Spruch des Corona-Regimes war, zeigt sich nicht erst im Rückblick. Noch deutlicher aber wurde er, als aus diesem Corona-Regime über Nacht ein Anti-Russland-Regime wurde. Plötzlich zählte ein Leben gar nichts mehr. Es wurde zur willkürlichen Verfügungsmasse in Stellung gebracht. Auch diesmal gegen einen angeblichen Feind, den man sich mit einem unerschöpflichen Arsenal an Lügen herbei fantasierte. Selbstverständlich ging es dem Regime zu keiner Zeit um Leben, sonst hätte man weder die sogenannten Impfstoffe zugelassen noch alte Menschen einsam sterben lassen. Was verbindet Corona mit dem Krieg gegen Russland? Welche Muster wiederholen sich? Warum sind beides nur Varianten eines Krieges gegen die eigenen Bürger? Mit unserer Reihe „Bücher gegen den Krieg“ möchten wir aufklären, der fortwährenden Propaganda von Regierung und Massen-Medien unsere Positionen entgegenstellen. Lüge, Kriegshetze und Zensur – ob mit oder ohne Hilfe von KI – wird nicht zur Wahrheit, auch wenn sie heroisch verpackt werden als „Kampf gegen Hass, Hetze und Desinformation“. Noticing: An Essential Reader (1973-2023) By: Steve Sailer Published: 2024 458 Pages Briefly, what is this book about? A collection of essays from Steve Sailer covering immigration, culture war stuff, and human biodiversity. What's the author's angle? For some, Sailer is a horrible right-wing racist. For others he's a data-driven contrarian. I mostly fall in the latter camp. Also whatever you think of his opinions, his tone is exceptionally mild. He's not a fire-breather. Who should read this book? If you've been following Sailer forever there's nothing especially new here. Even if you haven't previously read all of the included essays (and I believe I was at probably 90%), he's covering territory which is very well-trod by him in general. On the other hand if you're only vaguely familiar with Sailer—perhaps you've come across his name once or twice, then this is a great summation of his opinions and writings.  Specific thoughts: How important is tone?

  On this episode of the podcast Razib talks to John Sailer. Sailer is currently the director of higher education policy and a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. He covers issues of academic freedom, free speech, and ideological capture in higher education. Sailer has written for the Wall Street Journal, the Free Press and Tablet Magazine. Sailer holds a master's degree in philosophy and education from Columbia University, and a bachelor's degree in politics, philosophy, and economics from The King's College. Prior to joining the Manhattan Institute, he was a senior fellow at the National Association of Scholars. Following on last week's podcast with Jacob Shell, Razib continues to discuss the rise and fall of woke politics in academia, and the current backlash exploding out of the Trump administration. Sailer discusses his previous work back to 2020 showing how blatant universities became in their discriminatory policies against white males in particular, and how easy it was to demonstrate this dynamic with even the most minimal level of due diligence like freedom of information requests. They also discuss the reality that universities are attempting to adjust to a new landscape with the administration pressuring them to revoke DEI policies, while many faculty are urging that they instead dig in their heels. Higher education is adapting, but Sailer argues that since fundamental values have not changed, some evasion is to be expected.
