While much of the Western art world was focused on the Armory Show, all eyes in Asia turned to Seoul, where Frieze Seoul returned for its fourth edition. With the caliber of galleries participating, many now see it as a fair that rivals, and perhaps even surpasses, the Armory in importance. To unpack this year's edition, host Adam Green is joined by Andy St. Louis, a Seoul-based art critic, curator, and the newly appointed director of Frieze House Seoul. We discuss how Frieze Seoul has positioned itself within the Korean art market, how the gallery mix has evolved since its debut, and what the atmosphere was like at this year's fair. Andy also shares insights on the most noteworthy sales and offers his perspective on what the next chapter could look like for Frieze Seoul as it solidifies its place on the global art calendar.

They discuss whether the atmosphere felt more upbeat than the recent headlines of gallery closures, why it's important to understand the nuances behind those closures, and how this year's fair offered more thoughtful conversations between collectors and galleries rather than the frenzied sales of past editions. Daniel also shares insight into the types of works drawing the strongest demand, which are proving harder to place, and whether this edition shifted perceptions of the Armory's polarizing reputation, ultimately offering a snapshot of where the market stands heading into the busy months of auctions and fairs.

The Columbia Workshop ||The Fall of the City || Broadcast: April 11, 1937Written by Archibald MacLeish, is the first American verse play written for radio. The 30-minute radio play was first broadcast April 11, 1937, at 7 p.m. ET over the Columbia Broadcasting System (today CBS) as part of the Columbia Workshop radio series. The cast featured Orson Welles and Burgess Meredith. Music was composed and directed by Bernard Herrmann. It is an allegory on the rise of Fascism.Cast of characters:House Jameson as Studio Director; Orson Welles as Announcer; Adelaide Klein as Dead Woman; Carleton Young as 1st Messenger; Burgess Meredith as Orator; Dwight Weist as 2nd Messenger; Edgar Stehli as Priest; William Pringle as General; Guy Repp, Brandon Peters, Karl Swenson, Dan Davies, and Kenneth Delmar as Antiphonal ChorusProduction:This section possibly contains original research. Please improve it by verifying the claims made and adding inline citations. Statements consisting only of original research should be removed. The play was broadcast live from the drill hall of the Seventh Regiment Armory in Manhattan, New York. The site was chosen for the acoustic properties needed for the production. The principal director was Irving Reis who was also the producer. Music was composed and directed by Bernard Herrmann, music director of the Columbia Workshop. William N. Robson was responsible for crowd supervision; Brewster Morgan was editorial supervisor; and the stage manager was Earle McGill. The production involved the construction of a soundproof isolation booth for Welles. Two hundred extras were used for the crowds, drawn from New York University students, New Jersey high school students and boys clubs. To simulate a crowd of 10,000, Reis recorded the sounds of the extras during rehearsals, including their shouts. During the actual performance, these recordings were played at four different locations in the Armory; the recordings were played at slightly different speeds to give the effect of a larger crowd.: : : : :My other podcast channels include: MYSTERY x SUSPENSE -- DRAMA X THEATER -- SCI FI x HORROR -- COMEDY x FUNNY HA HA -- VARIETY X ARMED FORCES.Subscribing is free and you'll receive new post notifications. April 18, 2025. NEW YORK - Peter Walsh passed away today at 1pm Eastern time. He was a saloon keeper, a musician, a poet, an entrepreneur, an employer, a father, a husband and a friend. But mostly, he was joy wrapped up in a human-shaped package. He was known to us as a track fan and one of the owners of Coogan's Bar just up the street from The Armory. Here, we post the interview we did with him in 2020 just after Coogan's closed for good, an unfortunate victim of the COVID pandemic. Today we bid Peter a fond and tearful farewell and say we'll look forward to meeting him again on the other side of the track. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

“I know that track is fast and with the energy that the crowd brings and the fields that show up at Millrose, it's going to be a great competition. You go to Millrose to win and you're racing to win. That's what brings the fast times. I'm going to put myself in a position to compete for the win and hopefully walk away really happy.” My guest for today's episode is Josette Andrews, who is going to be one of the headliners at the 2025 Millrose Games on February 8th at the Armory in New York City. Tickets for the meet are on sale now at millrosegames.org.  Who else is in the field you might be wondering? As of right now, I have a preliminary entry list. I don't know if some things have changed since these names were added into this document, but we've got Josette Andrews, Karissa Schweizer, Tsige Gebreselama, Whittni Morgan, Courtney Wayment, Katelyn Tuohy, Elly Henes, Sarah Healy, Melissa Courtney-Bryant, Gabbi Jennings, Hilda Olemomoi, Nozomi Tanaka, and so many more competitors and loaded races in the mile, the 800m, the 60m hurdles, and 60m dash. Lots to look forward to. We'll be on-site for that meet.  In this episode, Josette and I talk a little bit about that because we're both East Coast people. She's from Jersey, 20 minutes away from the Armory, and I'm, of course, a proud New Yorker who will take any opportunity to boast about the Millrose Games. We talk about the energy and atmosphere of the Millrose Games, but then in addition to that, we reflect on Josette's 2024 season, which wasn't perfect. She dealt with a foot injury, which sidelined her throughout spring and forced her to open up her season at the Olympic Trials, which wasn't easy. She ended up finishing 11th in the 5K, did a couple of races after that, but then really took time to heal in the fall. We get an update on how training's been going, her goals for 2025, and what else she's looking forward to this year.
