We're finally back at it. This week, (some of) the boys are back in town for another absurd episode. Katon and Evo once again return this time alongside YPT contributors Soju Operator and Kalashnikoffing. For those who missed the last episode, Katon is a newly minted USPSA Grand Master Class level shooter under the Carry Optics division and Evo is a security and EMT professional currently working towards medical school. As one can imagine, only the SPICEST of takes are discussed here. Together, they cover various topics in regard to the firearms space including what it takes to reach Grand Master level, firearms training myths perpetuated by the left, process vs results-oriented training, why the idea of “gatekeeping” in the competitive shooting space is mostly bullshit, shit talking Tu Lam, and why MIRA Safety is a total joke of company. This time around, our globe trotting Troy fills us in on why he was in Suriname awhile back and what is happening at the Canadian IPSC National Championship in Manitoba. Then we discuss maintenance of steel targets outside of the match and why that is very important for safety, how to find firearms that are compliant with state magazine restrictions, a discussion about mag capacity, optics and other division issues, more information on Fixed Time scoring, the origin of the 4 second penalty for not moving in Outer Limits, modifying grips for Production and Carry Optics, and when during the course of fire is no more shooting allowed (other than after STOP!).

Have you ever wanted to shoot fast? Or get better at your Bill Drills? Do you know what a Bill Drill is? That's 6 shots at 7 yards landing them in the A-zone of a USPSA target. The standard goal is all 6 in under 2 seconds. That is speed and accuracy. Competitive shooter Isaac Lockwood is going for supersonic. 6 shots in under a second. He is close. At last year's Bill Drill Challenge at Nationals, he did the 6 shots in 1.23 seconds. This weekend he goes back to Carry Optics Nationals and will face the winner of this year's challenge. Isaac thinks he can do it. Isaac is a former law enforcement officer from California who now shoots and teaches all the time. He also is a pro staff member of Howitzer Clothing and shares that position with shooting greats such as JJ Racaza and Max Michel. In this episode, you hear: –How Isaac is able to get the shots off in such a short amount of time. –How Isaac prepares for a National Championship. –What Isaac practices when he goes to the range. This week's episode of the Tiger Bloc Podcast involves alcohol and hot takes. This ain't your dad's leftist gun podcast episode. Joining Soju Operator is Katon who returns once more, this time with his guest, Evo. For those who unaware, Katon is a USPSA Master Class level shooter under the Carry Optics division and Evo has an extensive professional background in security work, firearms training, and medical first aid. Together, the 3 of them get intoxicated and start laying their hottest takes and takeaways on how to actually get good at shooting, dispelling the myth of being the “jack of all trades”, why you should stop listening to YouTubers for practical advice, why your favorite dry fire gizmo probably sucks, why it's ok to challenge others, and the power of love. This week on the podcast, I talk about the 2021 rules changes to Production and Carry Optics, and discuss the fact that the temporary lull in match attendance in the last two years is ending, and the need for USPSA to take the shortage of club match slots seriously for the health of the sport.
It's always fun to have a new face on the podcast. Randall Towles is a top finisher in Carry Optics that trains a lot. Randall and Joel discussed training, mindset, tracking scores, and much more. This week on the podcast, I discuss a few more issues that I think benefit from applying a values-focused approach: single action guns in Carry Optics (and Production), why the classifier system needs improvement, and why we need to focus on building a sport for shooters, not guns.
This week on the podcast, in light of the pending discussion of Production at the January in-person Board meeting, I present the outline of where I think Production and Carry Optics should go in light of the lack of a genuine stock gun division in USPSA and based on the apparent demand for a Limited Optics division.
Tim Dunderi better known as Tanfo Timmy is well known in the USPSA community. Tim is a Grand Master in Carry Optics division and is always a top finisher. Joel sat down with Tim to find out how he trains, balances his time, and manages high pressure situations at matches. If you don't know the name yet, you will soon. Brantley just placed 4th overall at the 2022 USPSA Carry Optics Nationals. But where did he come from? How did he get there? With cut-out cardboard dry fire targets he made with boxes from Walmart... Not kidding. Brantley has always been on the quiet side, but now that people are starting to ask for help and tips from him, he's coming out of his shell. We talk about what it's like as an introvert learning to be more social. And once Brantley gets to know you better, he's more of a talker than you might think! I ask him about what it took to make GM, how he set his sights on the top 5 at Nationals, and what he did to exceed that goal this year. Keep your eyes peeled on this Alabama boy.
