True story: “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long booked a Kawasaki Vulcan S through Riders Share for the MotoGP race weekend at Circuit of The Americas. Upon arrival in Austin, Texas, he went to the designated location to pick up the bike from owner Guillermo Cornejo. Turns out, Cornejo is the founder of Riders Share, said to be the largest motorcycle-sharing community in the world. What are the chances of that happening?Wait, there's more. The Kawasaki was only available for Long to use that weekend because Cornejo forgot to pause his motorcycle listing on the Riders Share website. Stranded without his usual two-wheel transportation, he was forced to Uber to COTA. “It was a terrible mistake,” admitted Cornejo, adding, “but I still made more money on Riders Share than I spent on Uber.” All's well that ends well, right? On this episode of “Driven to Ride,” Cornejo explains why booking a motorcycle through Riders Share can be easier and more cost-effective than renting one from a national agency or even a local brick-and-mortar dealer. Is Riders Share the right choice for your motorcycle-rental needs? Listen to this episode and decide for yourself. Perhaps, like Mark, you might even meet the owner of the company. Kurvendiskussion - Der MOTORRAD-Podcast

Episode 029: Dave Moss Tuning on Fitting Your Motorcycle to You

So, you want to ride a Motorcycle?

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 17, 2019 85:26

In this episode I talk with Dave Moss, the founder of Dave Moss Tuning (DMT). Dave started racing motorcycles in the late 1990s at the age of 35. He built his own race bike and spent a lot of time digging into the nuances of bike setup and researching motorcycles, their behavior, their design and the physics behind them so that he could get the most out of his own bike on the track. A lot of other track day riders and racers started coming to Dave for advice on how to set up their own bikes. The help that Dave started offering at that time continued to evolve and develop over the last 24 years, and Dave now has a web site and YouTube channel with over 1000 items of content related to motorcycle suspension, motorcycle setup and riding technique that runs the gamut from podcasts, to videos to written articles. Dave has an intense passion for helping riders of all experience levels get the most out of their motorcycles and their motorcycle riding. He has found that often simple changes to the setup of a motorcycle can lead to huge gains in rider comfort, rider performance and rider safety. Dave has developed many tools and techniques to help tweak and adjust a motorcycle so that it fits the rider the way a well fitted suit or glove fits your body. His advice, to anyone who will listen, is to first focus your attention on the ergonomics of your motorcycle, and making sure it fits you properly, suits your riding style and handles properly, before you invest in other things like exhaust pipes, chrome and engine modifications. In this episode I discuss the Hepco & Becker rack system I have on my Kawasaki Z900RS and the Givi universal base plate I use to make it very easy to switch my Givi V47 top case between this bike and my Kawasaki Vulcan S. I also cover in detail the various items I carry from tools to first aid gear to trauma kit, etc. and why I feel each of these items is very valuable to carry and have on hand. To me, part of motorcycling is about being prepared. For sure you want to get training and take courses, and practice, practice, practice your technique. But sometimes things still go wrong! Not everything is in your control! And when things do go bad, I believe you should be as reasonably prepared as you can be.
