In November this year , the Global Fund which is the main funder for the worldwide response to HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria is hosting its 8th replenishment conference. This where donor countries make pledges to fund vital, life-saving work. The Global Fund raises and invests money in three-year cycles known as Replenishments. Now, ahead of the conference, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or Doctors without Borders released a report raising concerns and highlighting the challenges this replenishment faces, including the impact of shrinking donor support. MSF says without sufficient funding there will be antiretroviral, antimalarial and tuberculosis drug stockouts and that critical prevention activities will be neglected.. Escuchar audio

In 1971, 13 men sat down in a Paris office to launch what would become one of the world's best known humanitarian organisations: Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors without Borders. The men were among hundreds of volunteers responding to an appeal by the French medical journal, Tonus, after a major cyclone devastated East Pakistan. The campaign sparked the idea for the charity. The 13 founders – two journalists and 11 doctors – drew up a charter aiming to provide medical care regardless of race, religion or politics. MSF's first missions included helping victims of a Nicaraguan earthquake and a hurricane in Honduras. And in 1999, the charity won the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their work. Dr Xavier Emmanuelli, one of the founders, talks to Jane Wilkinson about setting up MSF, and his early humanitarian work.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from the death of Adolf Hitler, the first spacewalk and the making of the movie Jaws, to celebrity tortoise Lonesome George, the Kobe earthquake and the invention of superglue. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: Eva Peron – Argentina's Evita; President Ronald Reagan and his famous ‘tear down this wall' speech; Thomas Keneally on why he wrote Schindler's List; and Jacques Derrida, France's ‘rock star' philosopher. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the civil rights swimming protest; the disastrous D-Day rehearsal; and the death of one of the world's oldest languages.(Photo: Doctors from Médecins Sans Frontières in Chad, 1981.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has left hospitals in ruins, humanitarian corridors blocked, and millions of civilians struggling to survive. In this episode of The Voices of War, Maz speaks with Ashley Killeen, Director of Engagement at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Australia & New Zealand, about what it means to provide humanitarian aid in Gaza while upholding neutrality in the face of accusations of genocide and systematic violence. With MSF doctors and nurses forced to work in decimated hospitals, perform amputations without anaesthetic, and place five babies in a single incubator, Gaza's collapse is exposing the limits of neutrality in modern conflict. Ashley explains why MSF calls Gaza a “systematic genocide”, the ethical red lines Israel wants humanitarian organisations to cross, and why silence can make humanitarians complicit. This episode dives deep into the medical ethics of war, the weaponisation of aid, and the toll on humanitarian staff who bear witness in one of the most politically charged conflicts of our time. It asks the hardest question: when does neutrality protect, and when does it kill? Resources This is not aid. This is orchestrated killing. – Read the report: https://msf.org.au/sites/default/files/2025-08/msf_gazareport_thisisnotaid.pdf Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Australia – Support their work: https://msf.org.au/donate The Voices of War Podcast Website – Full episodes and extras: https://thevoicesofwar.com Newsletter – Join for deeper analysis and updates: https://thevoicesofwar.substack.com

More than 100 organisations have signed a joint letter calling on Israel to stop the "weaponisation of aid" into Gaza, as "starvation deepens".Humanitarian groups, including Oxfam and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), say they are increasingly being told they are "not authorised" to deliver aid, unless they comply with the stricter Israeli regulations.Joining Andrea to discuss this with his unique insight is former Israeli Hostage Negotiator, Gershon Baskin.Image: Reuters

Eye Witness Account on Gaza with Dr. Sarah Lalonde The ongoing genocide occurring in Gaza demands our attention and response. In this bonus episode, we share an interview with Dr. Sarah Lalonde, who worked in the European Gaza hospital in South Gaza in 2025. She shares an eye-witness account of the daily atrocities. Over 50,000 Palestinians have perished, almost half are children. Sifting through all of the disinformation can be difficult, which is why we’ve brought a first hand account to the show to describe what is happening at ground level. An especially important conversation for Christians to listen to, especially those formed, or who remain, in evangelicalism. Some Christian traditions justify the ongoing violence against Palestinians because they believe destroying Palestinians is connected to ushering in the return of Jesus sooner. This abhorrent worldview clearly sidesteps the command, ironically from Jesus, to stand in solidarity with the oppressed–the least of these. This conversation may leave you feeling uncomfortable due to the content, which we make the disclaimer: some of the stories you hear, particularly about children caught in the crossfire, is hard to listen to. But stick with it. Your response to this ongoing genocide matters. Your voice counts when it comes to demanding action for a permanent ceasefire, a complete cancellation of arms sales, and the immediate expansion of humanitarian aid into Gaza. “Pandemics are a political choice. We will not be able to prevent every disease outbreak or epidemic but we can prevent an epidemic from becoming a pandemic,” says Dr. Joanne Liu, the former International President of Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders and a professor in the School of Population and Global Health at McGill University. You are in for a lot of that sort of frank and clear-eyed analysis in this episode of Raise the Line from Dr. Liu, whose perspective is rooted in decades of experience providing medical care on the frontlines of major humanitarian and health crises across the globe, as well as wrangling with world leaders to produce more effective responses to those crises and to stop attacks on medical facilities and aid workers in conflict zones. Firsthand accounts from the bedside to the halls of power are captured in her new book Ebola, Bombs and Migrants, which focuses on the most significant issues during her tenure leading MSF from 2013-2019.  The book also contains insights about the geopolitical realities that hamper this work, including lax enforcement of international humanitarian law, and a focus on national security that erodes global solidarity. Join host Lindsey Smith as she interviews this leading voice on our preparedness to meet the needs of those impacted by violent conflict, forced migration, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and other grave challenges. No puedo ofrecerle nada.

US Senator Mark Kelly has called on Israel to stop attacking Palestinians seeking food and aid in Gaza. “Israel must stop these attacks on people seeking aid,” he posted on X, stressing that children are starving. His appeal comes as medical sources report at least 85 Palestinians killed in fresh Israeli strikes. More than 100 aid groups, including MSF, Oxfam, and Save the Children, are sounding the alarm on “mass starvation” in Gaza. They say aid warehouses are full but blocked from reaching desperate families. The coalition is calling for an immediate ceasefire, opening of all land crossings, and free UN-led aid deliveries. Their warning coincides with a US envoy's European trip to discuss a potential truce and aid corridor. The Syrian government has deployed buses to evacuate families trapped in unrest-hit Sweida. State media showed convoys entering the southern province to transport civilians to safety. Violence has displaced thousands, with neighbouring Daraa province reporting a steady influx of fleeing families. The US has announced it will leave UNESCO for the third time, effective December 31, 2026. Washington cited the agency's admission of Palestine and what it called a “globalist, ideological agenda” at odds with its “America First” policy. A State Department spokesperson said continued membership is “not in the national interest.” The move marks another sharp break in US engagement with international institutions. Türkiye has showcased its first hypersonic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, at the IDEF 2025 defence fair in Istanbul. Roketsan, the developer, also unveiled six other advanced systems at the event. The Tayfun Block-4, weighing over seven tonnes, can destroy high-value targets like air defence systems and command centres from long distances. Officials say the missile marks a major leap for Türkiye's defence industry and long-range strike capabilities.
