Specialized's new Demo 11 downhill bike is a certified rocket ship. You don't need us to tell you that. Jordan Williams, Loic Bruni, and Finn Iles have proven the platform's abilities over the past three years of development and this year two World Cup DH wins have been nabbed aboard the production version. The problem may be that it's complex, heavy and priced much higher than other DH bikes. Specialized gave us the chance to ride the bike, and we took the opportunity to get all of your questions answered—no marketing BS. Vital editor, Jason Schroeder, chats with Nicco Deluca, Product Manager at Specialized. Enjoy!Watch the full 'First Ride' video - https://youtu.be/D6dVxVffoPA

Confidence and self-confidence are both important. But if one skill rules them all, it is the belief that you can trust yourself. Confidence comes from a Latin word which means "to trust"; therefore, having self-confidence is having trust in oneself. Self-confidence is an emotion that you generate without any history to back it up or external evidence. It's based on the belief you have about yourself. It comes from thoughts like, “I will figure this out.” Confidence is supported by experience and external evidence. In this episode, I use the simple example of haltering a horse to illustrate how many times riders begin to collect evidence AGAINST themselves if they are not mindful of their thoughts. As I talk through the haltering example, imagine how something more complex like riding is full of these opportunities. At the end, I offer a physical experiment you can do to teach yourself to watch your thoughts more closely. You'll need ten pennies or pebbles and some increased awareness.

How do you do a ride along? Today we talk to Jeremiah Holcomb, a new chaplain who just completed his first ride along. Ride alongs are all about building the relationship between the chaplain and police officers. It's perhaps the best way for chaplains to genuinely experience their world, increasing understanding and building rapport and trust. The Ride Along Tips I messaged to Jeremiah:Try to do the whole shift.Ask about the first aid kit in the car, if the officer carries a tourniquet (& where), other safety equipmentWhen asking questions and making conversation, be aware the cop is also listening to the radioTell the officer you'll obey their commands; at most you'll provide another set of eyes. When an officer knocks on a door, stand where you can see two sides of the house.Don't touch anything, but you can point things out.Don't be a distraction if at all possible; stay in the car, or at least out of the way, during traffic stops - some cops hate ride alongs because they are distracted taking care of the civilian's safetyDon't promise citizens anything because you don't know for sureSubscribe/Follow here:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hey-chaplain/id1570155168Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2CGK9A3BmbFEUEnx3fYZOYMusic is by Chris HaugenHey Chaplain Podcast Bonus Episode 7
This week on the podcast Kathryn & Kristi chat with former professional cyclist Mari Holden. Mari confesses she has been in love with the sport of cycling since getting her first bike as a kid. This love took her all the way to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where she won a silver medal in the time trial. Mari spent her professional cycling career racing on the road across Europe and North America in the late 90's and early 2000's. She talks about the changes she has seen in the cycling industry since then, and reiterates why it is important that we keep advocating for more media coverage of women's racing to continue to bring exposure and attention to women's cycling. After retiring from her own athletic career, Mari worked as the director for team Twenty20, and now serves as the Community Director for USA Cycling. She is passionate about diversifying the sport and getting more people, especially young women, on bikes. Mari took part in her first gravel race this year at the Last Best Ride. She tells us what she loves most about gravel, and how embracing a new discipline of cycling has helped keep her excited about the sport.
