Confidence and self-confidence are both important.  But if one skill rules them all, it is the belief that you can trust yourself. Confidence comes from a Latin word which means "to trust"; therefore, having self-confidence is having trust in oneself. Self-confidence is an emotion that you generate without any history to back it up or external evidence. It's based on the belief you have about yourself. It comes from thoughts like, “I will figure this out.” Confidence is supported by experience and external evidence. In this episode, I use the simple example of haltering a horse to illustrate how many times riders begin to collect evidence AGAINST themselves if they are not mindful of their thoughts.  As I talk through the haltering example, imagine how something more complex like riding is full of these opportunities.  At the end, I offer a physical experiment you can do to teach yourself to watch your thoughts more closely. You'll need ten pennies or pebbles and some increased awareness.

Do you remember your first ride? You know, the first mode of transportation that gave you a newfound freedom. Think about it. What do you remember about your first ride? I would be thrilled to have you as a guest on My First Ride Podcast. It's an online audio/video program spotlighting the stories of people's taste of freedom with their first vehicle. Whether it was a car, truck, or motorcycle we all have some great memories that need to be shared. We'll talk about your first vehicle and the memories attached to that time in your life and what kind of an impact it had on you later in life. It doesn't matter if your first ride was 5, 20, or 30 years ago or more. What does matter is that you share the stories. If you have fond memories of your first ride it's time to tell those stories and what they mean to you. You know, stories you can tell your kids and your grandkids. Although, there are some stories that probably need to remain untold. It doesn't matter how busy your schedule is, the whole process to record our conversation is very easy. It'll be a 30-to-40-minute conversation recorded over Zoom. And now, just about everybody knows about zoom, right? I would love to have you as a guest on My First Ride Podcast. Would you be open to participating? You know, telling your first ride story? If yes, I would like to schedule a time where we can record our conversation. Contact me at myfirstridepodcast@gmail.com and we'll start the process of setting up to record your story and share it on MyFirstRidePodcast.com Final thought. You may not have your first ride, but you still have the memories. It's time to share them before they fade away. I'm Gary Neidert, host of My First Ride Podcast. Send me an email if you have questions or would like more information. Again, my email is myfirstridepodcast@gmail.com Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening.

How do you do a ride along?  Today we talk to Jeremiah Holcomb, a new chaplain who just completed his first ride along.  Ride alongs are all about building the relationship between the chaplain and police officers.  It's perhaps the best way for chaplains to genuinely experience their world, increasing understanding and building rapport and trust. The Ride Along Tips I messaged to Jeremiah:Try to do the whole shift.Ask about the first aid kit in the car, if the officer carries a tourniquet (& where), other safety equipmentWhen asking questions and making conversation, be aware the cop is also listening to the radioTell the officer you'll obey their commands; at most you'll provide another set of eyes. When an officer knocks on a door, stand where you can see two sides of the house.Don't touch anything, but you can point things out.Don't be a distraction if at all possible; stay in the car, or at least out of the way, during traffic stops - some cops hate ride alongs because they are distracted taking care of the civilian's safetyDon't promise citizens anything because you don't know for sureSubscribe/Follow here:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hey-chaplain/id1570155168Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2CGK9A3BmbFEUEnx3fYZOYMusic is by Chris HaugenHey Chaplain Podcast Bonus Episode 7

This week on the podcast Kathryn & Kristi chat with former professional cyclist Mari Holden. Mari confesses she has been in love with the sport of cycling since getting her first bike as a kid. This love took her all the way to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where she won a silver medal in the time trial. Mari spent her professional cycling career racing on the road across Europe and North America in the late 90's and early 2000's. She talks about the changes she has seen in the cycling industry since then, and reiterates why it is important that we keep advocating for more media coverage of women's racing to continue to bring exposure and attention to women's cycling.  After retiring from her own athletic career, Mari worked as the director for team Twenty20, and now serves as the Community Director for USA Cycling. She is passionate about diversifying the sport and getting more people, especially young women, on bikes.  Mari took part in her first gravel race this year at the Last Best Ride. She tells us what she loves most about gravel, and how embracing a new discipline of cycling has helped keep her excited about the sport.  Follow Mari on Instagram @msmariholden and learn more about the USAC Let's Ride initiative at https://usacycling.org/article/learn-about-lets-ride (https://usacycling.org/article/learn-about-lets-ride) https://gearjunkie.com/biking/mari-holden-cycling-pinarello-film (https://gearjunkie.com/biking/mari-holden-cycling-pinarello-film ) *Support the Girls Gone Gravel Podcast* InsideTracker: get 20% off at http://insidetracker.com/feisty (insidetracker.com/feisty) Support all https://livefeisty.com/partners/ (Live Feisty Partners) This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podsights - https://podsights.com/privacy Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

076: Eugene FriesenGood morning! This is Play It Like It’s Music. I’m Trevor, thanks for listening. On Wednesday, February 24 of 2021 music is not content. It’s connection.I had a crazy performance anxiety dream the other night. In the dream I’m famous enough to get invited to do crazy random things on stage, and they offer me a gig to play Romeo at an outdoor Shakespeare production of Romeo And Juliet. Of course I take it, even though I have no business doing something like that.Meanwhile, also in the dream I’m in the process of buying an old apartment building. So the bulk of the dream is spent visiting the site and going over minutiae like how old the wooden bannisters are and what kind of plumbing needs to be ripped out and what does the landmark commission have to say… I don’t do a single rehearsal for the play.Gig day rolls around and we’re still checking out the property with different real estate agents and managers. I’m riding around in the back of the car - the folks I’m with are completely oblivious to my having taken on a monumental role and they’re just talking about it like I’m going to play songs at a bar or something. Like “that’s so cool that you’re doing this thing tonight”. Meanwhile it dawns on me that I don’t even know a single one of my lines, haven’t even met the cast or the director. They drop me off in front, like half an hour before curtain and I realize that I have to find a sub. No matter what, even though it’s my name on the marquee. I am not gonna be that guy who got dropped right into a Shakespeare play with zero prep. I start looking around and see Willem Dafoe on his way in. We’re not friends in my dream either but he recognizes me and treats me like a friend because it’s like “my big night”. Yeah right.I tell him the situation and offer him the chance to play Romeo at a moments notice. He says thanks, probably not but he might know somebody and starts calling around. I see the real estate agents walking in, start to lose my s**t and…that’s the moment I woke up.Whew.What a fun one! Some ego, some anxiety, a bunch of hubris and the walls all closing in. Maybe it ended well, I don’t know. We’d all like to get bailed out by a superstar at some point in our lives. I’m just so glad it wasn’t real because I do not belong anywhere near a Shakespeare stage.Meanwhile, today on the show:Four-time Grammy Award-winner Eugene Friesen is active internationally as a concert and recording artist, composer, conductor and teacher. Eugene has worked and recorded with such diverse artists as Dave Brubeck, Martin Sexton, Toots Thielemans, Betty Buckley, Dar Williams, Will Ackerman, and Dream Theater.  Eugene's passion for improvised music has been featured in concerts all over the world with the Paul Winter Consort and with Trio Globo (which is Eugene, Howard Levy and Glen Velez). He appeared on "A Prairie Home Companion" playing with superstar soprano Renée Fleming and has performed as a soloist at the International Cello Festival in Manchester, England; the World Cello Congress in Baltimore, Maryland; and the Rio International Cello Encounter in Rio de Janeiro.  He’s a world renowned teacher of new cello techniques and improvisation in the United States, Asia, Europe, Egypt, and South America. Recording credits include five albums of original music, more than 30 CDs with the Paul Winter Consort, and hundreds of tracks featuring his rapturous cello playing on instrumental albums, films, and television scores. Eugene is an artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, and on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music in Boston. It’s an honor to have him on the show.Eugene was one of the very first cellists I ever saw on stage when I was a kid, someone who liberated us from the idea that we had to stay in line and only play the notes on a page with pre-prescribed intent and a general lack of flavor or modern relevance. He took his classical education and helped the cello grow into the modern musical landscape. None of us would be anywhere without people like him. Quick ask: if you believe this show deserves a wider audience, please tell a friend:Now let’s talk to Eugene![Featured tracks: “Shadowplay” and “First Ride” from The Essential Collection]Press PLAY above to hear my conversation with Eugene Friesen.Or subscribe in your podcast app: Apple Podcasts - Spotify- Stitcher - TuneIn - Overcast - PocketcastThanks so much for listening to Play It Like It’s Music.
