We will hear from Peter Moreno, the founder and Director of the program, Kevin Mullen, who designed the curriculum and teaches the course, and Mark Español, a former student. This episode lives up to the title of the podcast. We welcome Assemblymember Kevin Mullin, who represented the southern part of the San Francisco Peninsula. He is the Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore, presiding over much of the floor debate in the California Assembly. He is a former mayor and city council, and a multimedia entrepreneur. And we have him on today to discuss… none of that. Instead we turn back to an earlier chapter in his life as a DJ and break down the 12 Definitive Rap Hits of the 90s. Not the best lyrics or the best flow but the songs that both take you back and still make you get up and high five the person next to you.
SacTown Talks welcomes Speaker Pro Tempore Assemblymember Kevin Mullin to the podcast. They discuss this sober time in government and what it was like representing one of the first areas in the US to shut down due to COVID. The conversation moves to his unique background: working for Rep. Jackie Spear and how he influenced his father’s decision to run for office, and how he now holds that same office. They continue with one of his legislative priorities, now titled Proposition 18, that his father started the fight for, which would allow 17 year olds that would turn 18 by the general election to vote in the primary election. He discusses his role as Speaker Pro Tempore, and how it relates to his days as a DJ. Then they discuss his second bill, a change to property taxes to support the funds to battle wildfires which quickly moved to his work on an economic stimulus committee, his fear of future tough budget battles, and his hope for a new federal administration. Finally they touch on social justice legislation and the problem of the tight budget deadline. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook
Today on the show we are in San Jose for day two of the BIOMED show to meet Kevin Mullen, a sales engineer at RTP Company. After graduating from CalPoly Pomona and working in engineering for 20 years, Kevin found RTP and branched out into the world of sales. RTP Company is committed to providing solutions, customization, and service for all thermoplastic needs. They offer a wide range of technologies available in pellet, sheet, and film that are designed to meet even the most challenging application requirements. In our conversation with Kevin today, we get to hear his story as well as that of RTP, getting into what they do, who their ideal customers are, and why to work with them. You’ll hear about the wide range of engineers at RTP who consult clients from all industries with a need for hybridized plastic formulas. Kevin also talks more about the partners that RTP works with to take their formulas into the molding phase, as well as the applications for plastic in the medical world. Additionally, he gives us a great idea of the process and timeframes that one could expect working with RTP from handshake to touchdown. A big thank you to Kevin for teaching us so much about plastic today in what has been a great conversation that you should not miss.
On May 18, 2019 The Virginia Happy Trails Running Club hosted the 25th Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 mile race (MMT 100). Five of this year's entrants were from the JMTC who set out to tackle the demanding, rocky trail set in the Massanutten Mountains of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The list included Kevin Mullen (going for his 5th consecutive finish), Brian Tjersland, John Correiro, Giles Gregory, and Mark Gauthier. Each of these runners had their own reason for attempting this race, with it being the first 100 mile race attempt for Mark Gauthier. The runners were well supported by many other members of the JMTC heading down to both Crew and Pace the runners. In the end, all five JMTC runners completed the race in what was described as a brutally hot and challenging course. Huge CONGRATS to these amazing competitors on their accomplishments. This podcast was an attempt to get the runners / pacers / crews involved in that race to recap this event for those of us who could not be there. I also discovered the upper limits of recording a podcast from a mobile device platform during this recording. Thanks to all those that called in and dealt with the technical difficulties. Lessons learned, experienced gained! Don't forget about Brian & Josh's 500 Miles to End Veteran Suicide Run in November. Help spread the word to raise money for MIssion 22.
