Hello and welcome to the ZimmCast. I'm Chuck Zimmerman. While Cindy was home during the major snow storm in Florida I was attending the Clean Fuels Conference in San Diego, CA. The weather was delightful for the conference. However, in the Pensacola, FL area there was eight to ten inches of snow, something that hasn't happened in over 150 years! But it has all melted and we're mostly back to normal. So, let's talk about clean fuels. We created a virtual ag newsroom once again for the conference that used to be named the National Biodiesel Conference. It was the first one we created many years ago. You can find that newsroom with photos, interviews and session audio right here. In this episode I'm going to share some of the interviews I did. So, let's get started. First up I interviewed Kent Engelbrecht, ADM, serving as Chairman of the Clean Fuels Alliance America. Following him is Kurt Kovarik, VP of Government Affairs, Clean Fuels; then Tom Verry, Director of Outreach and Development; and to close things up I interviewed Donnell Rehagen, CEO, Clean Fuels. Now that I've been catching up I'm getting ready for the CattleCon 2025 working with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. In segment 2, Mike Steenhoek of the Soy Transportation Coalition discussed a pending bill in the US House that could allow states to raise weight limits on interstates for trucks. Dr. Steve Meyer, from Partners for Production Agriculture, joined the show in segment 3 with an update on the slide in margins in the pork industry and how they're adapting. Wednesday's AOA began with Darin Newsom, Senior Market Analyst at Barchart, who shared his insights on yesterday's corn market move and the flush of longs in the natural gas market. In segment 2, Lucas Fuess, Rabobank's Senior Dairy Analyst reviewed the fundamentals of the dairy industry, both domestically and internationally. Infrastructure was the topic in segment 3, with Dr. Martin Doyle, Director of the Water Policy Project at Duke University outlining the risks to dams across the country. And AOA closed with Kurt Kovarik, VP of Federal Affiars for Clean Fuels Alliance America, who had testified yesterday in front of the EPA about their volume requirements for biodiesel, and he explained CFAA's frustration.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has pitched raising the amount of renewable fuel that US refiners must mix with gasoline and diesel over the next three years. Ethanol producers generally applauded the agency's latest proposal for the Renewable Fuel Standard program, but the biodiesel sector was dismayed and accused the EPA of lowballing the renewable volume obligations for biomass-based diesel, undermining biodiesel and renewable diesel's growth potential. Kurt Kovarik, vice president of federal affairs at Clean Fuels Alliance America, which represents the biodiesel, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel industries, joined the podcast to share his thoughts on the EPA's proposed RFS rule, its potential impacts on clean fuel projects in the pipeline and the likelihood that the EPA will, in his words, “course-correct,” in the final rule due in June.
