Europe is secretly at war – and it has been for a long time. Across the continent, 34 disputed territories remain with places where the conflicts of empire still linger and rival nations continue to claim the same land. Some of these borderlands have become strategic prizes for leaders like Putin and Erdoğan, revealing how wars can drag on in perpetuity and how states can exist without recognition. But how much do these unresolved conflicts shape European politics today? Veteran foreign correspondent Hannah Lucinda Smith joins Jonn Elledge to reveal why these forgotten frontiers may be far more important than most of us realise. • Buy Hannah's book Hinterlands: Journeys Through Europe's Unfinished Frontiers from our affiliate bookshop and you'll help fund the podcast by earning us a small commission for every sale. 2026 has been a mixed year for tourism across South East Asia, and all countries are preparing their future strategies. With arrivals growth slowing and competition to attract tourists intensifying, Wellness and Business Events are emerging as key battlegrounds. This week, Gary and Hannah analyse how some of the region's key players, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia, are setting out their strategic stalls - or are they simply chasing the same tourists with different labels and campaigns? Plus, we discuss new flights between Phuket and Bali, and the background behind the arrest of a Malaysia Airlines pilot for drug smuggling in Jakarta. And, is Thailand's Prime Minister paving the way for Myanmar to return to the ASEAN fray after five years of isolation since the military coup?

Because of the Blizzard Watch Site Curse, the day after we recorded the podcast, the release date for patch 12.0.7 was announced, because that's just how that works. It's June 16, and you're welcome. That also comes with changes to gear repair costs, which we talked about a bit last week, but Joe has a hot take that goes a step further. It's a new month, so that means a new round of FOMO transmog. This time it's Tauren edition. There was a new Hearthstone expansion announced, featuring Vanessa VanCleef, Escape from Violet Hold. A new Hearthstone expansion announcement also means the Battlegrounds mid-season shakeup, and another weird Darkmoon Faire gatcha game pet. Luckily, this time it's Cute Thun, a horrifying take on C'thun all our podcasters think is too creepy to be cute, even weird offbeat kinda cute. It's also a good time for Diablo fans, with things like solo self-found and Obol cap changes. And it's a good time for all gaming fans, because Summer Game Fest is imminent, and we've already had several announcements that have us truly excited.Plus, Cory has a soundbite idea that should make everyone happy. Brendan Greene is a game designer whose work reshaped the landscape of competitive multiplayer video games. Raised on a barracks in County Kildare, he grew up in an army family with little more than an Atari 2600 for company. He studied Fine Art in college, taught himself web design, and spent years freelancing — even moving to Brazil — before rediscovering video games through the DayZ mod for Arma 2. What began as hobbyist tinkering on Reddit forums became something much bigger when he created the Battle Royale mod in 2013, inspired by the cult Japanese film. Three years later, the mod became PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. PUBG's brutal, hundred-player survival format exploded into a global sensation, helping cement the battle royale genre as a dominant force in modern video games. Now, through PlayerUnknown Productions, he has returned to his fascination with emergent storytelling with Prologue: Go Wayback!, a game that challenges players to navigate nature's unforgiving systems and carve their own path through the wilderness.Become a My Perfect Console supporter and receive a range of benefits at www.patreon.com/myperfectconsoleTake the Acast listener survey to help shape the show: My Perfect Console with Simon Parkin Survey 2025 Hosted on Acast.
Three active cases. Three distinct legal postures. Three sets of listener questions that demand procedural clarity.David Burke, twenty-one, known professionally as D4vd, was arrested April 16, 2026, by LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division on suspicion of the murder of fourteen-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. He is held without bail on a probable cause warrant. No formal charges or grand jury indictment have been returned. The case is expected to be presented to the LA County District Attorney for filing consideration. The cause and manner of death remain sealed by court order. Defense attorneys Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter maintain Burke did not cause the victim's death.Joseph Duggar, thirty-one, faces charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under twelve and lewd and lascivious conduct in Bay County, Florida. He has pleaded not guilty and waived arraignment, demanding a jury trial. He was released on six hundred thousand dollars bond with no unsupervised minor contact. Separately, Joseph and Kendra Duggar face four counts each of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment in Arkansas. Kendra has not yet entered a plea.Caleb Flynn, thirty-nine, faces eleven charges in Miami County Common Pleas Court including aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, three counts of tampering with evidence, and two counts of witness intimidation — several with firearm specifications. He has pleaded not guilty. Bond is set at three and a half million dollars. Trial is set for May 4, 2026. The FBI and Ohio BCI are assisting the investigation.Robin Dreeke and Tony Brueski take listener questions on the procedural landscape, evidentiary challenges, and charging decisions across all three cases.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Today's guest is Shantnu Sharma, a senior public-company executive who has led enterprise strategy, transformation, and corporate development across the semiconductor and digital infrastructure ecosystem. Shantnu's career spans leadership roles at Western Digital, Arrow Electronics, AMD, and McKinsey, giving him a rare perspective on how technology strategy, capital allocation, and competitive advantage are being reshaped by AI from the infrastructure layer up. In this conversation, we explore the forces shaping AI's next phase and unpack what strategy leaders need to understand about the bottlenecks, value shifts, and strategic tradeoffs emerging across the semiconductor and digital infrastructure landscape. Things we will cover: • How semiconductor capacity, talent, and execution constraints are shaping the pace of AI growth • Why the distinction between AI training and inference matters for infrastructure strategy and economics • How advanced packaging and supply chain choke points are becoming new sources of strategic advantage • What the “convergence frontier” could mean as AI moves into physical industries like manufacturing, logistics, energy, and healthcare • The bull and bear cases for AI's future, including regulation, power constraints, and the difficulty of scaling into messy real-world environments From semiconductor strategy to AI infrastructure and long-term value capture, Shantnu brings a highly informed perspective on where AI is going and what Chief Strategy Officers should be paying attention to now. In this episode, we sit down with Rabbi Dr. Yosie Levine to explore the life, world, and enduring significance of Hakham Tsevi Ashkenazi, the towering early modern rabbinic figure at the center of his book Hakham Tsevi Ashkenazi and the Battlegrounds of the Early Modern Rabbinate. We begin at the very beginning: what draws a historian to write a full-scale study of Hakham Tsevi, and why his career offers such a powerful window into early modern rabbinic life and the development of halakha. Moving beyond biography, Rabbi Dr. Levine explains how Teshuvot function not only as halakhic documents but as rich historical sources that illuminate communal pressures, lived religion, and the texture of Jewish decision-making in a rapidly changing world. The conversation then turns to the political and cultural dynamics shaping Jewish communities of the period, and how these forces complicated the relationship between rabbis and their congregations. We examine Hakham Tsevi's nuanced engagement with Sefaradim and his defense of certain Sepharadi approaches to Jewish law and minhagim, challenging simplistic Ashkenazi–Sepharadi divides. Rabbi Dr. Levine also unpacks Hakham Tsevi's attitude toward Kabbala and how it manifests within his Teshuvot, revealing a careful, principled posture rather than a reactionary one. Finally, we delve into the dramatic Ḥayon Affair, tracing its significance not only as a personal crisis for Hakham Tsevi but as a defining moment in the broader battlegrounds of the early modern rabbinate.___*This episode is dedicated to the refua shelema of Sarah Miriam bat Tamar, Binyamin ben Zilpa, and our dear friend Yaakov ben Haya Sarah Malakh, and l'ilui nishmat Zehara Yehudit bat Yaakov Ezra v'Ilana Shira___• Bio: A scholar of early modern Jewish history, Rabbi Yosie Levine became the seventh rabbi of The Jewish Center in 2008, after serving there for four years as Rabbinic Intern, Assistant Rabbi, and Associate Rabbi under the mentorship of Rabbi Dr. Norman Lamm, z”l; Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter; and Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman. Prior to joining The Jewish Center, he served as educational director of the Lauder Foundation's Beit Midrash in Berlin. He is active in numerous communal organizations, including AIPAC, NORPAC, and the UJA-Federation of New York, where he previously served as a board member, and his advocacy for Israel has helped make The Jewish Center a model for Israel activism within and beyond the Religious Zionist community. Has every season of Battlegrounds produced more harm than good?
Terry Joins the crew to talk about the current state of BGS and how you might get started if you've never played or it's been a while.
Host Scott Hennen kicks off a high-stakes Monday exploring the "colossal battle of wills" in Minnesota. Following a tragic weekend shooting in Minneapolis, the show investigates the discovery of secret "Signal Gate" chat groups allegedly used by state officials to track federal agents. Scott is joined by former North Dakota Governor Ed Schaefer to discuss an "off-ramp" for the violence, while "Mr. Wonderful" Kevin O'Leary drops in to announce a major financial literacy initiative and fire back at "reckless media" following a legal victory. The episode also dives into "Moorhead's Minneapolis moment," with a deep dive into recent city council comments regarding ICE operations, and a look at the future of North Dakota's ag economy with state senator Paul Thomas. Standout Moments [00:07:30] A Way Out: The Schaefer Proposal Former Governor Ed Schaefer offers a strategic solution to the Minneapolis standoff: a "50% pullout" of federal agents in exchange for full state cooperation in identifying and removing the "worst of the worst" criminal offenders. [00:13:45] Trump Accounts:Kevin O'Leary's Vision "Mr. Wonderful" joins the show to discuss "Trump Accounts"—a transformational plan to seed every child at birth with $1,000 invested in the S&P 500. O'Leary argues this is the key to bipartisan financial literacy and long-term independence from government reliance. [00:16:15] Mr. Wonderful Unfiltered: Clearing the Name Kevin O'Leary addresses a recently dismissed lawsuit in North Dakota, slamming "bottom-feeder" lawyers and "reckless media" for shoddy journalism. He announces he is hiring an AI team to scrape every headline to ensure legal accountability for defamation. [00:19:45] The "Trump Truce" and Signal Gate Scott breaks down the news of a phone call between Governor Tim Walz and President Trump. He contrasts the "olive branch" with reports of an encrypted Signal network involving the Lieutenant Governor used to swarm law enforcement. [00:30:45] E15 and the Ag Crisis State Senator Paul Thomas recaps President Trump's recent trip to Iowa. They discuss why year-round E15 is a "win-win" that could consume 2 billion bushels of domestic corn oversupply and provide a lifeline to struggling North Dakota farmers. [00:35:10] Money, Markets, and Japan's Warning Landmark Gold's David Fisher explains why silver is up a staggering 56% this year. He draws a direct line between Japan's failing bond market and the "Sell America" trade currently pushing investors toward physical gold. [00:40:15] Moorhead: The New Minneapolis? The show closes with a critical look at the Moorhead City Council. Scott…

In this high-energy episode of Pocket Theology, the team dives into the "Battlegrounds" of the mind, specifically focusing on the language of Ephesians 1.The conversation challenges the way we often "under-complicate" or "over-complicate" the Bible by bringing our own modern, individualized frameworks to ancient words. Pastor Jason and the team unpack heavily "charged" theological terms like Blessed, Chosen, Predestined, and Holy, stripping away the dust of religious debate to find a vision of the Church that is far more communal and powerful than we usually imagine. In this episode, we explore:• The Translation Trap: Why the word "Praise" in Ephesians 1 might be a poor translation and how a single word can shift our entire view of worship.• The Individualism Problem: Why we instinctively read the word "you" as "me," and how reclaiming the "y'all" of the New Testament changes our security in Christ.• Redefining Righteousness: Shifting from the "ghost sheet" view of imputed righteousness to a vision of God's Covenantal Faithfulness.• Predestination Reframed: A conversation that moves beyond the Calvinist/Arminian divide to see the Church as God's chosen "Plan A" for the world.• Spiritual Dermatology: An honest look at the "maturity spots" and imperfections of the Church, and why we need the body to truly reflect the image of Jesus. As the team prepares for a new year and new additions to the family, they offer a "prophetic imagination" for 2026—calling the church to stop settling for "warm feelings toward Jesus" and start living into the radical, unified identity of the Body of Christ.Resources MentionedThe Ways of Our God by Charles ScobieGrasping God's Word by J. I never thought I'd be glued to my screen watching courtrooms turn into battlegrounds for America's future, but here we are in early January 2026, and President Donald Trump's legal wars are heating up like never before. Just days ago, on Tuesday, January 6, SCOTUSblog reminded us of that historic New York Times Company v. Sullivan case from 1964, where the Supreme Court protected the press from libel suits—timely now as tensions simmer between Trump and media outlets. But that's history; the real fireworks are exploding right now.Picture this: the Supreme Court is gearing up for its January 12 argument session in Washington, D.C., with seven massive cases, several straight from Trump's playbook. Axios reports that top of the list is Trump v. Barbara, where the justices could rule any moment on his executive order slashing birthright citizenship. Trump wants to deny U.S. citizenship to kids of undocumented immigrants born here, challenging over a century of 14th Amendment precedent. Businesses like Costco, Revlon, Bumble Bee Foods, and Ray-Ban makers are suing over another bombshell—Trump's tariffs. In Learning v. Trump, they're fighting his national emergency declaration that slapped billions in duties on imports without Congress's okay. Trump boasted on Truth Social it's the "most case ever," but a loss could mean refunding over $100 billion. Then there's Trump v. Slaughter, pitting Trump against Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and FTC's Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Slaughter, whom he fired for clashing with his policies. The court will decide if he can boot independent agency heads, smashing 90-year-old protections.Just Security's litigation tracker paints an even wilder picture of chaos in lower courts. In D.C.'s federal district court, Taylor v. Trump challenges Executive Order 14164, where Attorney General Pam Bondi shuffled death row inmates to ADX Florence supermax under Trump's public safety push—plaintiffs scream due process violations. The National Association of the Deaf sued Trump, Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt for axing ASL interpreters at White House briefings, claiming First and Fifth Amendment breaches. Law firms aren't safe either: Susman Godfrey out of Texas hit back at an executive order yanking their security clearances for opposing Trump; Perkins Coie, Jenner & Block, and WilmerHale face similar retaliation suits in D.D.C., alleging viewpoint discrimination. The American Bar Association sued over yanked grants from the Office on Violence Against Women, calling it payback for their stances. Even Rep. Eric Swalwell's in the mix with Swalwell v. Pute, targeting Trump's criminal arrest pushes.Politico says grand juries are Trump's new nightmare—refusing indictments left and right on his aggressive policies, from protester crackdowns to immigrant roundups. U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan blasted prosecutors for "rushed" cases with weak evidence. And in a wild international twist, CBS News covered ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and wife Cilia Flores arraigned Monday in Manhattan's federal courthouse before Judge Alvin Hellerstein. Whisked by helicopter from Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center under heavy security, Maduro pled not guilty to narco-terrorism, cocaine smuggling, and weapons charges—facing life in prison—while insisting he's still Venezuela's president. The Supreme Court's emergency docket, like in 25A312, keeps deferring stays till January arguments, per their own filings. Lawfare's tracker logs non-stop national security suits against Trump's moves. It's a legal whirlwind, listeners, with the high court poised to reshape everything from guns in Wolford v. Lopez against Hawaii's private property ban, to conversion therapy fights in Miles v. Salazar. Thanks for tuning in, listeners—come back next week for more. THE RETURN OF THE NOBLE MONARCH Colleague Gregory Copley. Gregory Copley argues that the world has reached "peak republicanism," where republics have become inefficient political battlegrounds. He defines nobility not as a class structure, but as a quality of honorable leadership that embodies the state's values. Copley suggests modern monarchies, like that of King Charles III, are reinvigorating this role by acting as apolitical symbols of unity and diplomacy, unlike elected leaders who only represent their voters. When we find ourselves in an old place of defeat or in a place that feels dry, it could be the foundation for a miracle. What does Ezekiel tell us about encountering the Lord in these valleys? Lord, what do YOU say to these dry bones (the natural)? Holy Spirit, what do I declare to the breath (the unseen)?
