We have learned that you cannot talk about LGBTQ+ history without mentioning Weimar Republic era Berlin. There, for a time, life really was beautiful. This is the story of the real Kit Kat Club and the glittery, tragic history that inspired the musical Cabaret. Ernst Rößlein: Unsere Hilfe
This week's Open Mic guest is U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa. Agriculture was once a strong contributor to a positive trade balance, but is forecast to be in deficit this year. Ernst faults the Biden administration's lack of effort in securing global trade deals for U.S. farmers. The Iowa Republican sees little chance for a farm bill this calendar year but hopes for better chances in 2025. Ernst also discusses results of a GAO report indicating the majority of USDA employees have not returned to work in their Washington, D.C. offices.
“Hitler had entered Röhm's bedroom alone with a whip in his hand. Behind him had stood two detectives holding pistols, with the safety catch removed, at the ready…” The 30th of June 1934 saw a seismic moment unfold in the early years of the Third Reich. With the Führer and his party firmly in power, a bloody faction fight takes place within the Party. The Nazis have gained control of both the streets and the democratic institutions of Germany, with Hitler made Chancellor in 1933. But the SA, the largest Nazi military faction, led by the unmistakable Ernst Röhm, have shown signs of challenging Hitler, and rumours have reached the Führer that he is facing a coup… After a bloody night of murderous terror led by Hitler and his personal guard, the SS, they are left as the strongest military wing in the Party, with the SA facing extinction. Join Tom and Dominic in the first episode of our series on the Nazis in Power, as they delve into how Hitler solidified his and his party's control of Germany, the different right wing groups at play, the signs of uprising against Hitler's rule, and the eventual quelling of all opposition. Ernst Röhm was one of Adolph Hitler's besties and had a hand in the creation of the Third Reich. He was also gay. I can't reconcile the two either, but I was raised to believe that all gay people are pious do-gooders. Therefore, a gay Nazi is just insane to me.Support the showSubscribe to Wicked Gay on Patreon (Patreon.com/wickedgay ) for extra episodes and bonus content! You can find Wicked Gay on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok under “Wickedgaypod”.

Progressive technocrats with an eye towards top-down control have several strategies that they employ that will allow them to continue to move the Overton window towards eventual autocratic control and away from established liberty-minded social contracts: Aggressive overthrows of federal and local governments through the seizure of election processes, judicial appointments and control of corporate partners to create pathways around legal structures. Fabian strategies of becoming a “wolf in sheep's clothing” by masking true intentions with rightist, populist rhetoric to gain grassroots support that will eventually lead to the same policies advocated by progressive globalists. A technocracy, to put it simply, is a form of governance that can be boiled down to a “rule by experts.” A broader definition of a technocracy can be described as “A form of government in which the decision-maker or makers are selected based on their expertise in a given area of responsibility, particularly with regard to scientific or technical knowledge.”(Berndt, Ernst R. (1982)) A technocracy explicitly contrasts with a constitutional, representative democracy: the notion that elected representatives should be the primary decision-makers in government. Techno-populism has been on the rise in Europe over the past several years with candidates and entire political parties gaining the trust of men and women frustrated with the autocratic drift of their nations. While there have been some examples of Techno-populism that have grassroot beginnings and honest intentions, many techno-populist movements have been hijacked by corporate and globalist interests that grift off of authentic and real concerns such as the rise of “woke” politics and culture within our world. Sadly, many of the recent “conservative” victories by techno-populists have been anything but conservative with technocrats such as Giorgia Meloni, Boris Johnson and Glenn Youngkin securing victories in Italy, the U.K. and Virginia. These techno-populist lure the voting public in with well-tuned rhetoric but then eventually lead with an eye towards globalist, authoritarian, top-down control. https://sovereignnations.com Support Sovereign Nations: https://paypal.me/sovnations https://patreon.com/sovnations Follow Sovereign Nations: https://sovereignnations.com/subscribe/ © 2023 Sovereign Nations.

When a merger with other nationalist parties is suggested, Hitler – effectively the Nazi Party's only source of revenue – threatens resignation if he is not given total, unquestioning control over every aspect of the party. He uses this to establish the paramilitary Storm Division led by Captain Ernst Röhm, the ‘Machine Gun King of Bavaria'. So when Mussolini takes power in Italy in October 1922, everyone is asking: when will Hitler launch his own coup? Hitler has a gift for oratory and party membership is growing: every week he draws a larger crowd. The party formally changes its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party – soon everyone will be calling it Na-Zi for short. But in his speeches, Hitler still reserves his vilest attacks for the ‘November Traitors', namely any politician who signed the Versailles Treaty and plunged Germany into third-class status. But all this campaigning costs: will Helene Bechstein, whose husband inherited the piano company, be able to help? The Night of the Long Knives, also known as Rohm Putsch, began on June 30th, 1934, when Adolf Hitler along with an entourage of Schutzstaffe began the purge of Sturmabteilung leadership. What followed was a multi-day power consolidation characterized by arrests and slaughter, driven by Hitler's infamous paranoia. The results of the purge made clear to all of Germany that Hitler was both supreme leader and above the law. You can find the HSMH community on all our socials via our linktree.

This time, we're ascending a borrowed ladder after watching Gattaca and along the way we wonder if this is really the future, why everyone is dressed like they're on Mad Men, are genetics the next wave of discrimination, and what's it like living in a post-sex world? Let's dig in… Gattaca Movie Cast and Crew Directed by Andrew Niccol: Prior to taking on Gattaca, Niccol had built a career directing television ads and took on the film industry in 1997 in his directorial debut while also writing the screenplay. He's since gone on to write The Truman Show and direct films like Simone, Lord of War, In Time and Anon. Danny DeVito served as a producer for the film. He has had great success in this avenue of his career as he's produced films like Pulp Fiction, Reality Bites and Erin Brockovich Ethan Hawke as Vincent: Hawke has enjoyed a steady career since the mid 80's and his performance in Gattaca has certainly aided in that. He had previously starred in films like Dead Poet's Society and Reality Bites and really enjoyed a breakthrough following Gattaca. He has since starred in films like Training Day, The Purge, Boyhood and First Reformed. Uma Thurman as Irene: Thurman also enjoyed sustain success in Hollywood while serving as Quentin Tarantino's muse after her breakthrough Oscar nominated performance in Pulp Fiction. While some of her film choices are questionable, no one has questioned her acting ability. Jude Law as Jerome: Gattaca was Law's real breakthrough performance and has continued to star in great projects in the twenty years since its release like The Talented Mr. Ripley, Enemy at the Gates, Road to Perdition, Sherlock Holmes and entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain Marvel. He gets a great opportunity to show off his acting skills here as an engineered man who is struggling with the “perfection” he was given. A Brief History on Eugenics The primary “science” shown in the film is that of eugenics, or the practice of selective breeding to eliminate certain “undesirable” traits. Those words are in quotes for a reason and we'll get to that. The concept itself has roots in ancient times when Spartan elders would inspect every newborn boy to determine if it was suitable for the warrior lifestyle. The actually word “eugenics” emerged from an unlikely source; Charles Darwin. Not the man himself, but from his half-cousin named Francis Galton who sought to apply Darwin's theory of evolution to humans. Beginning in the early 20th Century, eugenics was gaining traction at universities and societies were formed to encourage eugenics as a form of parental responsibility. The British formed a society in 1907 with America following in 1921. International conferences were held that even enlisted religious figures to support the idea of eugenics with many countries adopting sterilization procedures for mental patients in the 20's and 30's. It seemed that everyone was taken in by this “science” with Winston Churchill among one of the more vocal supporters in the United Kingdom. However, attitudes began to shift against eugenics when the Nazis took power in Germany. Ernst Rüdin, a Nazi who helped form the scientific basis for the racist policies of the Third Reich, was never prosecuted for the propagation of these ideas. The horrors of the Holocaust do not need to be discussed here. but let's just say that it is truly one of the most horrible things ever documented in history. Many ethnic groups and “undesirables” that were deemed by the Nazis were targeted for eugenics, forced into camps and were either killed or became part of horrific experiments. Needless to say, people came around to just how awful the idea of “eugenics” could be and has now been dubbed to be a pseudoscience. As discussed in the podcast show, our hosts debate whether or not eugenics could be a good thing (i.e. in the way of eliminating certain diseases or weaknesses), but inevitability,

Were there really gays in the Nazi party, even though they sent thousands of homosexuals to concentration camps or worse? Yes. In fact, Ernst Röhm, the second most powerful man in the party in the early years, was gay - and a close friend of Hitler's. How could this be? Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review. Normandy. Anzio. Guadalcanal. Okinawa. Those are some of the historic landing sites for World War II invasions, legendary names that should never be forgotten. But there were lesser landings, as well, such as at Amagansett, New York, and Ponte Verdra Beach, Florida. That's right. There were at least two mini-landings in America, engineered by Germans, of course, not Allies. In the midst of World War II, two German submarines actually put men ashore at both of those locations. The invaders did not arrive with the intent of seizing and occupying territory, however. Their mission was sabotage. Their targets were some of the crown jewels of America's industrial might: major hydroelectric plants, important aluminum factories, critical railroad tracks, bridges and canals–and the water supply system of New York City. Well-trained and well-supplied, the saboteurs had good reason to be confident, but in the end they failed utterly. How and why that happened is a fascinating tale, partly because of what it reveals about the character of the two warring nations. The story begins shortly after Adolf Hitler declared war on the United States, just four days after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Eager to prove to the United States that it was vulnerable despite its distance from Europe, Hitler ordered a sabotage operation to be mounted against targets inside America. The task fell to the Abwehr (defense) section of the German Military Intelligence Corps. The job was right up the Abwehr's alley. It already had conducted extensive sabotage operations against the Reich‘s European enemies, developing all the necessary tools and techniques and establishing an elaborate sabotage school in the wooded German countryside near Brandenburg. Lieutenant Walter Kappe, 37, a pudgy, bull-necked man, was given command of the mission against America, which he dubbed Operation Pastorius, after an early German settler in America. Kappe was a longtime member of the Nazi party, and he also knew the United States very well, having lived there for 12 years. To find men suitable for his enterprise, Lieutenant Kappe scoured the records of the Ausland Institute, which had financed thousands of German expatriates' return from America. Kappe selected 12 whom he thought were energetic, capable and loyal to the German cause. Most were blue-collar workers, and all but two had long been members of the party. Four dropped out of the team almost immediately; the rest were organized into two teams of four. George John Dasch, the eldest at 39, was chosen to lead the first team. He was a glib talker with what Kappe thought were American mannerisms. Dasch had served in the German army during World War I, then emigrated to America, where he had worked as a waiter. When war broke out in September 1939, he impulsively went home. The second man in the first team was Ernest Peter Burger, a stocky, intelligent man with slick black hair. Burger had been a Nazi almost as long as Hitler himself, playing an active role in the 1923 Munich Beer Hall Putsch–Hitler's abortive initial attempt to gain power. In 1927, Burger fled Germany for the United States to escape criminal charges for brawling. He stayed until 1933, working as a machinist in Detroit and Milwaukee, joining the National Guard, studying English and even becoming an American citizen. When Hitler came to power, however, Burger headed home, rejoined the Nazi Party and became aide-de-camp to Ernst Röhm, chief of the Nazi storm troopers. He escaped Hitler's bloody purge of that organization and went to college, but he soon got into trouble by writing a report critical of the Gestapo. He was arrested, jailed for 17 months, then released into the infantry. Heinrich Heinck and Richard Quirin were the other members of Dasch's team. Machinists by trade, they had gone to America in 1927, eventually joining different chapters of the German-American Bund. In 1939 both accepted Germany's offer to pay return passage for emigrants. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thehistoryexpress/support
