STANFORD Magazine released an article a couple of months ago that began this way: “Today's youth likely have decades of ‘extra' time coming to them. Psychologist Laura Carstensen wants them to spread those years out.”   The article is entitled “5 Ways to Prepare for a Longer Life” and it's all about preparing young people for the 35 years they will have after retirement. The Stanford Center on Longevity has created what's called “the new map of life” to address the critical question of how youth will manage all that extra time. Their team of postdoctoral fellows has reimagined a society molded around 100-year life spans.   In this episode, I do an overview of the article and Stanford's work on the new map of life. I provide a summary of what they cover in the article, the conclusion they drew, and how all of that can be applied to your life and Encore Career.   We'll dive deeper into these concepts: Why we must plan to work longer and differently. Tyson went from being a freelance solopreneur to now running a full-service marketing agency with a 20+ person staff by using what he referred to as Influential U's “business cheatsheet.” His story is unique in that he's experienced Influential U's training and curriculum from two distinct angles; as someone who was starting a new business and as someone who was stuck. He launched a media buying and digital ad management offer while in his initial program with Influential U. Fast forward a couple of years later and he's taking his second IU program as he becomes the COO of a well established marketing agency that was stuck generating the same amount of profit year after year and was hitting a theoretical ceiling. Fortunately, Tyson had a framework and process that he learned at Influential U that allowed him and his business to achieve goals on an accelerated timeline. Focus and self-awareness are key themes in this interview and Tyson paints a picture as to how you can leverage these to achieve your loftiest of aims. Aloise was in her twenties when she had a complete breakdown. Her family's history includes bipolar disorder, suicidal tendencies, and other mental health issues. Aloise's grandmother spent a lot of her life in and out of asylums and her mother survived an accidental overdose. Aloise herself suffered from depression and found herself neck-deep in drug and alcohol abuse. She was detached from her purpose and dissatisfied with life. But the breakdown she finally experienced helped her breakthrough.
