Hey there, hero! The question comes up often, and it shows up in various forms. This time, a client wrote this:“David…I cannot believe that in today's cultural environment, that there are authors who expect me to say the n-word. I can't understand why they'd even write it! How do I make it clear to this rights holder that they need to edit that word out of their book? Do you have a message in your message template that lets them know that I won't narrate their book unless they change that? Amazing.”Um…no, I don't and, more importantly, this is the wrong approach to take. It's not anyone's place to take an artist to task for creating art that may be uncomfortable to you.Let's answer the question, and let's discuss why my answer is what it is.How do you handle potentially triggering language in the books you narrate or the shows you appear in? If you're one of my author peeps, how do you handle writing language that is racist, violent, sexual or other uncomfortable categories? Let me know in the comments below.REQUEST: Please join this video's conversation and see the full episode on VOHeroes, where the comments are moderated and civil, at https://voheroes.com/qa-should-you-actually-say-the-n-word-when-narrating/#Acting #Voice #VoiceOver #Performance #Productivity #Tips #Art #Commerce #Science #Mindset #Success #Process #Options #BestPractices #MarketingWant to be a better VO talent, actor or author? Witness to Yesterday (The Champlain Society Podcast on Canadian History)

Larry Ostola speaks with Barbara Messamore about her book Times of Transformation. Times of Transformation positions the watershed 1921 federal election in the context of activist efforts and the revolutionary mood in the years following the Great War. New Liberal leader William Lyon Mackenzie King, who went on to become Canada's longest-serving prime minister, came to power, with his party capturing every Quebec seat. The 1921 election brought many Canadian firsts: the first post-Confederation minority government, the first time women were eligible to vote on terms equal to men, and the first effective fracturing of the two-party system, with the establishment of a federal Labour party and the dramatic rise of the Progressives. In her engaging, in-depth account, Barbara Messamore shows how these changes had been brewing at the activist level even before the end of the war. The Progressive party owed its success to the increasing politicization of farmers and the importance of tariff policy, freight rates, and grain prices to the western voting base. Suffrage came after a decades-long battle for political rights for women. Labour strikes swept the nation in the post–Great War era, and a new national Labour party gained Commons representation. The 1921 election in Canada was a manifestation of long-building forces for change that embodied the global zeitgeist of postwar disillusionment and hope. Barbara Messamore's detailed exploration of this turning point election will appeal to those interested in history, biography, and the evolution of Canadian democracy Barbara J. Messamore is a professor of history and department chair at the University of the Fraser Valley. She is the author of Canada's Governors General, 1847–1878 and coauthor of Narrating a Nation: Canadian History Post-Confederation and Conflict and Compromise: Pre-Confederation Canada. She cofounded and edited the Journal of Historical Biography and is president of the Institute for the Study of the Crown in Canada. When we call something "clickbait," we don't mean it as a compliment. But let's be real: we also click. It's hard to resist a spicy story, and 19th-century newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst knew it. At a time when most papers merely reported events, his papers created them, sending reporters out to perform daring rescues, solve sensational murders, and even meddle in geopolitics. (214) New Dietary Guidelines

FLAVORS + kNOWLEDGE

In the early days of 2026, the Trump administration made headlines with a bold overhaul of America's approach to eating, unveiling the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030, on January 7. Spearheaded by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, this update marked what officials described as the most significant reset of federal nutrition policy in decades, shifting the focus squarely onto "real food" as the cornerstone of health. The guidelines, accessible at realfood.gov, introduced an inverted food pyramid that prioritizes high-quality proteins, healthy fats, dairy, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains while urging Americans to steer clear of highly processed foods, refined carbohydrates, and added sugars. This move came amid President Trump's "Make America Healthy Again" initiative, aiming to combat chronic diseases by restoring common sense and scientific integrity to dietary advice that critics argued had long been influenced by corporate interests. Narrating the evolution of these guidelines reveals a tale of controversy and change: for years, previous iterations had emphasized low-fat options and carbohydrates, but this edition flips the script, endorsing full-fat dairy and a variety of proteins from animal sources like red meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood, alongside plant-based options such as beans and nuts. The narrative begins with the administration's rejection of what they called ideologically biased elements from the prior Biden-era advisory committee, replacing them with a new panel to ensure recommendations centered on health outcomes rather than "health equity." Key directives include avoiding sugar-sweetened beverages, limiting added sugars entirely for children under four, and incorporating healthy fats from sources like avocados, olives, and omega-3-rich fish. These changes will influence everything from school lunches and military meals to SNAP programs, potentially requiring retailers to stock more staple whole foods.More Podcast Subscribe Free to The Flavors + Knowledge NewsletterProduced by SimVal Media Group

The DMF With Justin Younts

Welcome to the DMF! I'm Justin Younts, and today I'm diving into my journey into voice acting with the incredible Kris Keppeler. It all started when I was searching for more acting opportunities in Seattle, and someone suggested I try voiceover. I never considered it before, but once I found a coach, I discovered how much I loved combining my singing and acting skills. Voice acting has become a joyful partnership for me, giving me the chance to express emotions and bring characters to life in a unique and powerful way.Transitioning into voice acting came naturally thanks to my background in singing and acting. I learned that voiceover requires conveying emotion without relying on body language—everything comes through the voice. I often visualize a character's posture or state of mind to help me connect with the role.I also share my experiences voicing a wide range of characters, from a beefy crime boss to a heroic ex-thief. Each role demands its own emotional depth, tone, and vocal texture, and I love the challenge of finding what fits. My opera training has been invaluable, teaching me vocal control and how to project emotion effectively.Voice acting is about feeling your way through a script and connecting personally with the character. It's not just reading—it's performing. I encourage aspiring voice actors to embrace their uniqueness and let their experiences shape their work.If you're interested in voice acting, remember: practice is everything. I'm always exploring new characters and finding joy in narrating unusual stories. Whether you're a beginner or looking to grow, keep going and enjoy the ride. Please like, share, and subscribe for more insights into the world of voice acting. Child Life On Call: Parents of children with an illness or medical condition share their stories with a child life specialist

"My baby went from fussy to lifeless in hours—by the time we reached the PICU, they said he might have had six hours to live." In this episode, TikTok Influencer and Medical Mom Marlee Brandon, a pediatric speech-language pathologist turned full-time mom, shares the whirlwind diagnosis of her 12-month-old son Bain with Type 1 diabetes and severe DKA, the traumatic hospital stay, and the everyday advocacy that followed. Raw, practical, and deeply hopeful. Why this episode matters Emotional clarity: what a Type 1 diagnosis really feels like in infancy Practical advocacy: scripts, choices, and language that help toddlers cope System gaps: when even major hospitals say "we've never seen this in a baby" Hope forward: raising a confident kid who knows why care matters What You'll Learn Early signs & ER visit: how "ear infection" symptoms masked T1D in a baby DKA in plain language: what "acidic blood" means and how PICU treats it The learning cliff: carb ratios, breastfeeding while dosing insulin, and why it's OK not to "get it" on day one Toddler coping: give choices, narrate care, build independence Rebuilding trust after mistakes: when training/tools aren't perfect Finding your people: groups, podcasts, and creators who answer "what now?" The BH Sales Kennel Kelp Holistic Healing Hour: Wellness Wisdom ShowGrandpa Bill -Pisces, Narrating the Analysis:"Welcome back, seekers! Grandpa Bill here, closing out October with Tam Veilleux's Energy Almanac in hand. If the first half was about digging up our fears, this second half was about re-planting our roots for long-term growth and getting a spiritual re-calibration. The overarching theme of shifting 'Fear into Wisdom' really crystalized in the final two weeks. The first major shift came mid-month when Pluto stationed Direct in Aquarius (around the 13th/14th, though its energy was strongly felt after the 16th). Pluto's power is huge. After months of inner reflection, this transit pushed forward necessary social, technological, and collective shifts. For us, it meant the long-overdue shifts in power dynamics—in our businesses, our families, even in our communities—started to gain momentum. As a Pisces, I felt this as a powerful surge of collective subconscious change; a massive wave we had to ride with awareness. Then came the beautiful New Moon in Libra (around the 21st). This was the cosmic clean slate! Following the intense Aries Full Moon, this was the moment to set intentions for balanced relationships, new agreements, and harmony. It's the perfect energy for anyone looking to reset partnerships in business or at home—a true win-win opportunity that Venus's earlier entry into Libra had paved the way for.Right on its heels, we plunged fully into the intensity with the Sun Entering Scorpio (around the 22nd), marking the official start of the Season of Transformation. Our focus turns deep, intense, and to the emotional truth. This is when we look at shared resources, intimacy, and the shadow aspects we're still confronting—perfectly echoing Tam's monthly theme. But for me, as a Pisces, the most resonant event was Neptune Re-entering Pisces (Retrograde) on the 22nd. This is a Spiritual Re-calibration. Neptune is our co-ruler, and its dip back into its home sign brought back themes of dreams, compassion, and the subtle realms for a second look. It was a time to check our spiritual boundaries and clear up any illusions that were still clouding our intuition. It truly grounded the holistic healing we talk about right here on the show. Finally, the month closes out with Mercury entering Sagittarius (around the 29th) in opposition to Uranus. This opens the mind, encourages the expansion of faith and trust, and disrupts old thought patterns for one last burst of authentic self-expression. We end the month not just having faced our fears, but having successfully alchemized them into genuine, long-term wisdom."Grandpa Bill's Pisces Energy Almanac Recap (October 16th - 31st, 2025)TitleTransformation Finale: Scorpio Season, Neptune's Reset, & Pluto's Power Surge#,TransformationFinale #PlutoDirect #NewMoonLibra, #SpiritualReset, #OctoberAstrology,#New Moon Focus,T#NewMoonMagic #LibraNewMoon #RelationshipReset, #BalancedLiving, #EnergeticReset,#Planetary Shifts,#Pluto Direct & Neptune's Dip, #Harnessing Massive Change, #Inner Alignment,#PlutoInAquarius, #NeptuneInPisces, #CosmicCalibration, #IntuitiveAlignment, #Astrology2025,#Scorpio Season Focus,#ScorpioSeason, #EmotionalTruth, #ShadowWorkHealing, #Depth and Growth, #HolisticHealingHour,#Holistic/Healing Focus, #ClaimYourPower, #FearToWisdom, #WellnessWisdom #GrandpaBill, #Tam Veilleux,

What is Reciprocal Imitation Training (RIT), and how can it support social communication skills? In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Jessica Osos, BCBA, to explore the definition and application of RIT—a naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention (NDBI) designed to teach learners to imitate spontaneously through ongoing, play-based social interaction. Unlike structured drills, RIT is child-led and play-focused, helping to build social skills that go far beyond imitation. For many SLPs and BCBAs, this is a new approach. Dr. Osos explains how the back-and-forth of imitation highlights the value in what the child is doing and how strategies like Sports Casting (narrating the interaction) can enrich play. Expanding play might mean introducing more toys, exploring new play schemas, or creating deeper sequences.Key factors for successful RIT involve simple language, emphasizing important words, being repetitive, and expanding language by copying and adding. Focusing on goals beyond imitation? RIT doesn't have to be a “this or that” choice. This child-led expansive approach works with a variety of social communication, like joint attention and more! #autism #speechtherapy What's Inside:Naturalistic Intervention using Reciprocal Imitation Training. What is RIT?Expanding play for a variety of social, communication, and leisure skills. Mentioned In This Episode:Episode #146: Early Intervention and Project Impact with Anna Dvortcsak and Dr. Brook Ingersoll - ABA SpeechSpeech Membership - ABA Speech  ABA Speech: Home

Over the years Darren and Mark have made…and seen…several mistakes. Today they're joined by Stage Time University faculty member Mike Davis as they discuss the mistakes they see most often…even after 30+ years of coaching. This episode feature mistakes #10 through #6 in the countdown. Avoiding these will help you to be unforgettable on the platform.   SNIPPETS:   • Avoid ending on Q & A or with a ‘THANK YOU' slide   • Circle back to your opening and end with impact   • Can your audience see themselves in your story   • Do research and homework to relate more closely with your audience   • Use present tense and phrases like “let me take you back…”   • End with punchy, concrete words   • Show the consequences of actions NOT taken   • Be clear on what is at stake   • Avoid continuous narration   • Use dialogue, body language and facial expression for depiction   6. Too Much “Tell,” Not Enough “Show” Why it matters: Narrating facts and feelings doesn't activate the audience's imagination. The brain craves visuals, dialogue, and motion.
✅ Fix: Include short bursts of scene-based storytelling. Show reactions. Use dialogue. Let us see and feel it.   7. Unclear If-Then Stakes Why it matters: Without an IF-THEN, there's no urgency. No reason to act. No consequence for staying the same.
✅ Fix: Highlight the risk: “If I stayed silent, we would have lost the client. If I spoke up, I might get fired.”   8. Repetitive Sentence Structures or Passive Voice Why it matters: Flat rhythms, present participles, or soft endings weaken emotional impact and energy.
✅ Fix: Use nouns and verbs up front. End sentences with punchy, concrete words. Vary rhythm.   9. No Audience Relevance or Personalization Why it matters: Some stories sound good but don't connect. If the audience can't see themselves in it, they tune out.
✅ Fix: Ask the reflective question during the story: “Have you ever felt like that?” or “What would you have done in that moment?”   10. Ending With a Fizzle, Not a Frame Why it matters: If the ending feels rushed, abstract, or purely emotional, the story won't stick.
✅ Fix: Reframe the opening or image in a new way. Bring the story full circle. Land with clarity and resonance.   Work with Mark and Darren: https://www.stagetimeuniversity.com/get-a-speaking-coach/   Check Out Stage Time University: https://www.stagetimeuniversity.com

With their signature mix of warmth, honesty, and thoughtful reflection, they explore how couples can move from emotional distance to reconnection—without overwhelming each other. The episode kicks off with banter about TikToks and volleyball, then shifts into the heart of the matter: how relationships evolve when we learn to slow down, name what's happening inside us, and give our nervous systems time to catch up. Annie introduces the concept of “titration”—a gentle, incremental approach to change—and explains how it can transform conflict, emotional intimacy, and even personal growth in marriage. They also unpack the meaning behind defensiveness, offer powerful metaphors like “two stump spouses” and “learning how to swim before diving into the deep end,” and share a profound story from Annie's own marriage about grief, rage, and radical honesty. Key TakeawaysTitration: A Slow Path to Growth Just like IV fluid must enter the body slowly to avoid harm, emotional intimacy must also be introduced gently. In marriage, rushing change can overwhelm both partners. Learning to pace growth allows real connection to develop. Defensiveness Is a Signal, Not a Flaw Annie reframes defensiveness as the body's way of saying, “Something in me needs defending.” This awareness transforms conflict into curiosity: What part of me (or my partner) is trying to stay safe right now? Marriage as a Long Game Cultural myths tell us that getting married is the destination. But marriage is actually the beginning of a lifelong practice. Zach poses the question: When does the future start? The answer? Now.
