Suffering...It's one of those things we all want to avoid but inevitably finds its way into our lives. So how do we suffer well? Can we endure more than we think? Few people have as much to share in this area than our guest Liz Griffin. After suffering through a complicated six year adoption process, Liz and her husband finally brought their two children home. Two years later, at the age of 33, Liz suffered a stroke. This led to the discovery of brain aneurysms, a thyroid tumor, a heart defect, and a long road to recovery. But with incredible suffering comes incredible wisdom, and Liz is gracious enough to share it with us.

She was 36 when she had a stroke. And she survived. But not without marks from the battle. What followed was a year of unimaginable struggles, challenges and losses that left her feeling like she was approaching the same life, just with less. Less energy, less skills, her capacity for writing, a love of hers, sapped as just remembering the words took a level of mental energy that left her completely drained. Liz's story will remind you that God can do abundantly more than we ask or imagine, even when we literally or figuratively have less. Sometimes that's when we see Him most clearly. Liz Griffin and her husband are pastors of a church in Texas, with four children, and the journey she’s been walking through over the past 6 months has been anything but easy. She had a stoke, two brain aneurysms, and a tumor on her thyroid (some are still being treated with surgeries) and she had none of risk factors as a 36-year old healthy woman. It's pretty incredible that she is even hear with us today sharing her story. She said "the biggest emotion I've felt through all of this is gratitude." How in the world can someone going through so much hardship feel so much gratitude amidst challenging circumstances? We unpack this question as well as: How do I minister to others facing difficult circumstances that I don’t have experience with? How does one stay hopeful when facing your own major challenges? Join me by listening to this conversation today! Key Verse Shared: "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Honestly? I thought it was a prank. I got an email saying Andy Andrews (I loved his book The Noticer) would like to be on the Inspired To Action podcast and could we arrange it? Um. Yes... He is a New York Times best selling author, he speaks internationally to huge organizations like GE, Coca-Cola, Chickfila and The US Department of Defense. Zig Ziglar said, "Andy Andrews is the best speaker I have ever seen." He is praised by everyone from Paul Harvey, Dave Ramsey, NFL star Kurt Wariner, PGA Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez to Kenny Rogers. And despite all of his success, in today's podcast you'll find him to be warm, wise, humble and filled with a heart to encourage moms as we parent the next generation. Friends, you are in for a treat today. Andy shares some fantastic parenting wisdom, including stories about his own boys, and his inspiring life story. Andy calls parenting the fulcrum of our culture and his new book The Noticer Returns (click here to preorder it now - releases Oct. 1) wraps timeless parenting truths into a story you'll find hard to put down. (Well, if you're like me anyway. I have no self control when it comes to great fiction.) What you'll learn in this podcast: The tragedy that occurred when Andy was only 19 years old. How he spiraled out of control and what (or who) got him on his feel again. Why, as a young man, he read over 200 biographies of great people and how it impacted his life. How moms can have a huge impact on our culture. The "proof of hope" that the best is yet to come for YOU. A tip to help your child make great choices. A Great Deal for Moms Each of Andy's previous books on a massive sale right now on Amazon. The Kindle version of The Noticer is just $2.99 and The Traveler's Gift is only $.99. If you want to grow in character and learn timeless principles, but have a hard time plowing through dry non-fiction books, you'll love Andy's storytelling style. And of course, you can preorder his new book here, or download or listen to a free chapter by clicking here. How to Be on the Podcast I'd love to feature a listener each week on the podcast, so if you have a question (upcoming shows will feature Emily P. Freeman, Liz Griffin (talking about how we as moms can be naptime abolitionists), and I'll be recording a solo session about motherhood and fitness. Click here to record your question (it's easy peasy) so I can include you on the next show!
