The Ethics of Jean-Luc Picard Jean-Luc Picard is known for his diplomacy and ability to masterfully handle tough decisions, but were all his choices the most ethical ones he could make? In this roundtable discussion honoring the release of Picard's third and final season on Paramount+, Matthew from Trek Untold asks the hard questions to Ashlynn and Rhianna from The Duras Sisters Podcast, Davey from The Treksperts Quiz, and Hawk from Strange New Pod about some challenging episodes. "Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode we reach into the archives of our old series called, Trek Talk, bonus episodes previously recorded for our members-only podcast. And on this episode Nathan and Dean get together and hang out with the space Irish. Worf gets the Klingon version of the measles, drinks poison tea, and reminds us of his pride and courage. Picard makes a call to Crusher and begs her to return to the show. The lads get into some of the terms presented this week like: European Hegemony and Neo Transcendentalists. It's a TNG episode that feels like it could have been in the Original Series, and the good captain seems as if he is completely uninterested in his passengers and doing his best to dump them at first opportunity. Fortunately, we find some clones and they need breeding stock, so the space Irish will have to make a decision - embrace polyandry or be vented into space by an irritable Picard. Nate wants Riker to murder clone babies, and Dean talks about the Blade Runner replicants and their lack of emotional development -- again. We present to you, Up the Long Ladder, from Star Trek: The Next Generation." Season 2 - Episode 18 Connect with us! On this week's entertainment-themed Round 2: As We See It episode 5, "Ever Had an Edible?" pushed all of Terri's mom-of-kids-with special needs buttons, and she has a few choice words for Jack's aunt, Julia the French fry guy, and most especially Harrison's mother. Next: Episode 6, "Fear Is My Bitch."Over on The Gilded Age's "The Long Ladder," everyone was much better behaved, even when they were being racist and hitting on their bosses and just generally acting clueless. Next: Episode 5, "Charity Has Two Functions."

It's 'Science with Mohamed' as the Sistas get the answers to those questions you've been dying to ask. The episodes "Distant Origin" and "Lineage" from Voyager, and "Masterpiece Society" and "Up the Long Ladder" from TNG come up in this conversation. But as we delve into that whale movie and any season of Discovery it becomes science 2.0. Dr. Noor debunks a Sista's "in the year 2525" theory, explains the difference between selective breeding and genetic engineering, and confirms that if there one thing we never have to worry about it's an attack of giant ants. We want to make our ship go to awkward conversations. The Pakleds are the big bad, which is kind of a let down after the Borg honestly. Picard has to get a procedure done (hint: it's not bowel related) and that means he's trapped telling Wesley about his life in a shuttlecraft. Riker and Geordi try to help the cunning Pakleds, but don't listen to some very reasonable warnings from Worf and Troi. Pulaski saves the day after some fine medical babble form our guest stars, while Wesley and Picard bury the hatchet. Jimmie hosts this episode that establishes a whole lot of "Canon!", Kate is concerned about reading in the dark, Erik points out the politics, and Greg just wants to eat sandwiches with the Captain. This week, we're joined by the brilliant Linda (@HenInAHat1) to talk about TNG's Up the Long Ladder, in which Picard and the gang have to deal with a bunch of Space Irishmen who seem to be entirely based on Irish Stereotypes from the 19th century. It really doesn't improve from that low.
OK, Boomers and Sooners...we're celebrating St. Patrick's Day by comparing the 1992 Irish immigrant epic Far and Away and the breathtakingly dated TNG episode, "Up the Long Ladder"!I, for one, welcome our big, dumb overlords...

Cameron wonders what's so important about a bucket, Marcy is disgusted by Riker, and Rob checks out. We also tell our own chain story, but not before we play a drinking game, so let the fun begin! Woof. There is good campiness and then there is BAD campiness. This episode definitely falls in the bad campiness...er...camp. But first, Ensign Harry and Look-Who-Has-A-New-Title Gregg cover the latest Star Trek news, including BRAND NEW Picard adventures?! Someone at Star Trek HQ just never wants this podcast to end! So the episode itself - yeah this one was rough. The crew answer a distress signal from some colonists whose planet is in danger of being obliterated by solar flares. The colonists turn out to demonstrate every Irish stereotype in the book - meanwhile the Enterprise also encounters an offshoot of this colony which is facing a genetic crisis. This episode is just all over the map - but stay for Gregg's results of his "What Star Trek Crew Member are you?" personality quiz! It's kind of abelist and pretty anti-Irish, it's this week's episodes of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”! First up: the Pakleds are technology thieves that stymie Riker and kidnap Geordie while Picard is off getting his ticker serviced in “Samaritan Snare”. After that, come play Irish stereotype bingo and revel in a horrible conclusion in “Up the Long Ladder.” Also this week: shuttle design griping, cloning conundrums, and a postcredit that is basically all toilets and poop, so you can't say we didn't warn you. Hey, sometimes Mad Men forgets how to do subtle. The fifth season finale, "The Phantom," is definitely one of those times, with its hyperobvious symbolism and to-the-audience speeches. Elsewhere, the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation has an eclectic mix of episodes, as we watch "Q Who," "Samaritan Snare," and "Up the Long Ladder." From the Borg to the Space Irish -- it's the whole spectrum on this show, idn't it?
In Up the Long Ladder, pandemonium erupts on the Enterprise as hundreds of ethnic stereotypes from a Thomas Nast cartoon seek refuge on the ship. Pat and Pat dissect this poorly received second season episode, full of dropped subplots, broad comedy, and clones.
In this episode, Mike and Molly decide to match the cast of Everyone Loves Raymond with their Star Trek analogs! Who gets compared to the Squire of Gothos? Listen in to find out! Then, in depth discussion about episodes: TNG "Up the Long Ladder," DS9 "Profit & Loss," and Voyager "Death Wish."

Hey Trekabout listeners! Were you chomping at the bit to see an episode of TNG in which every single character acts as stupid as possible? Well, “Samaritan Snare” delivers!
