Today, Jesus washes the feed of the disciples. There are a lot of things happening here. I've been fascinated by what Peter says: don't wash my feet, but then he says wash all of me. Jesus tells him that he has already had a bath. So, we spent some time talking about Jewish ritual baths. Peter refuses at first for several reasons. First, it's tough to have your feet washed. But, second, if Jesus is washing feet, that means Peter will have to. Y'all, as hard as washing feet is, it is always when we, as Christians, can best show that amazing love of Jesus. When we wash feet, they are changed, and so are we. We take a picture of ministry from Scripture, foot washing. We are called to minister to others, to reach out to the hurting. Foot washing is a beautiful picture of what is necessary to minister to others. To minister we must kneel, or lower(humble) ourselves. Going further with the idea of this picture, there will be many "types" of feet that we will encounter in ministry. If you are having a mental health crisis, dial 911, or get to the nearest Emergency Room, or call one of these numbers. HUMBLE SERVICE!Just as Jesus set aside His position and served others, we are called to have the same attitude.
In John 13, Jesus shows the disciples 'the full extent of his love.' How? By getting up from his place of honor as Master, Teacher, and Lord, taking off his outer garment, wrapping a towel around his waist, and washing and drying each of the disciples feet. As Master, Teacher, and Lord, he takes on the form of a servant. When he finished he asks a probing question, "Do you understand what I have done for you?" Then he gives them a life-changing call, "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet." Followed by a powerful promise, "Now that you know this, you will be blessed if you do this." What did the Last Supper mean? It did not just mean the last meal with his close ones. Looking at John chapter 13. Humbling ourselves to serve others.
Sunday is a moving day: we move from the seven 'I am's' of Jesus in the Gospel of John to three final messages to sum it all up - the Grace, Washing Feet, and Abiding Way of Jesus. In John 14:1-17a Jesus proclaims, "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This statement of Jesus seems exclusive. On one hand it is. On the other hand, it's for all who hear and believe - inclusive to everyone to engage by grace, through faith, in Jesus Christ. The post Podcast: 2024-05-19: Gospel of John: I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life first appeared on Crestview Church.
THE HUMILITY OF SERVICEIn John 13:1-17, we witness a powerful display of humility and service as Jesus, the Son of God, takes on the role of a servant by washing the feet of His disciples. This act of humility challenges our understanding of leadership and service. Jesus, the greatest among them, stoops down to wash the feet of His followers, teaching us that true greatness lies in serving others.
Serving others can be extremely difficult, especially when they have hurt you, but Jesus even washed the feet of Judas, and He calls us to serve likewise. So as we walk through the story of Jesus washing the disciples' feet in this episode, we see exactly what that looks like for us today! As Jesus welcomed the disciples to the table, he also bowed low to humbly wash their feet. But it wasn't feet he was actually offering to wash. It was hearts. Jesus has invited everyone to his table, but in order to be with him we have to be washed clean. This would ultimately happen on the cross for anyone who would confess him as Savior. Do you understand what he was done for you?

Matthew 26, John 13, & 1John 1:9 We begin our Easter series with: Hearing Jesus, the king of kings, serving and loving his disciples by washing their feet. Introduce the betrayal BUT remind kids that Jesus was not alarmed by this. Jesus knows everything and this isn't "throwing off his plans." Learn the significance of the passover (We keep it age appropriate; if you want help talking further about the passover, head over to my IG @kidsbiblestories ) Explain the connection of the last supper and communion. As always it will be a fun journey that engages the kids and is explained on their level so they can apply and remember it. On Charley and Jan’s fiftieth wedding anniversary, they shared breakfast at a café with their son Jon. That day, the restaurant was understaffed with just a manager, cook, and one teenage girl who was working as hostess, waitress, and busser. As they finished their breakfast, Charley turned to his wife and son and said, “Do you have anything important going on in the next few hours?” They didn’t. So, with permission from the manager, Charley and Jan began washing dishes in the back of the restaurant while Jon started clearing the cluttered tables. According to Jon, what happened that day wasn’t really that unusual. His parents had always set an example of Jesus who “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). In John 13 we read about the last meal Christ shared with His disciples. That night, the Teacher taught them the principle of humble service by washing their dirty feet (vv. 14–15). If He was willing to do the lowly job of washing a dozen men’s feet, they too should joyfully serve others. Every avenue of service we encounter may look different, but one thing’s the same: there’s great joy in serving. The purpose behind acts of service isn’t to bring praise to the ones performing them, but to lovingly serve others while directing all praise to our humble, self-sacrificing God.

In this Bible Story, we learn about the plot to kill Jesus being set into motion by Judas. Jesus, during the Last Supper, identifies his betrayer as Judas. He washes His disciples' feet, telling them to serve one another as he has served them. And gives them a new command to remember Him when they eat together and take communion until He returns. This story is inspired by Matthew 26:1-2, 21-30; Luke 22:1-13 & John 13:3-17, 26-30. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is Matthew 26:26 from the King James Version.Episode 208: The influence Jesus now held over the people was too much for the religious leaders to bear. They were starting to lose their grip of power. So, they began to think about how they could arrest Jesus away from the crowds. Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, came to them and offered to help them for a small fee. They agreed. As Jesus' disciples got ready to eat the Passover meal, He took off his outer robe and began to wash His disciple's feet. In doing so, Jesus taught both them and us what it means to serve. During the dinner, Jesus confessed that one of them would betray Him. Shortly after saying this, Judas left the room to enact his plan.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast.
