Chris Taylor is a lifer. His first bands, (Windows and Love Coma,) were covered by True Tunes when we were just getting started back in the early 90s. While his bandmate Matt Slocum went on to form the alternative pop group Sixpence None The Richer, Taylor continued to release projects as Love Coma and as a solo artist. He also became an accomplished painter along the way. Now, almost 35 years later, Taylor continues to break new artistic ground. His most recent Love Coma project (which included contributions by Slocum) was a stunner, and his brand new solo project - "I Carry The Flame" may be his best work yet. You may have heard Taylor when he appeared on our Bruce Cockburn episode, but this time it's all about him, his longevity, and how he keeps the flame burning after all these years. This week, we're saddling up and getting back to our old ways, shootin' some fellas who may or may not deserve it, but deserves ain't got nothin' to do with it either way. It's 1992's Unforgiven, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, Jaimz Woolvett, Saul Rubinek, Frances Fisher, Anna Thomson and a blink-and-you'll-miss-him Lachlyn Munro. A revisionist western primarily concerned with upending the myth of the great American frontier that its director and star built his career off of, it is a dark, bleak and dreadful film that took home Oscar gold for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor (Hackman) -- just the third time in the Awards' history that a Western had taken the top prize. Plus: we're both deep in our respective music bags this week, hyperfixating on tunes from Willow Avalon and Bruce Cockburn. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our conversation, Unforgiven is currently streaming in Canada on and in the United States on Max at the time of publication. You can also find the show now on both BlueSky and Instagram, @adhddvdpod. Other works discussed on this week's episode include The X-Files, The Idea of You, Tenet, Canadian Bacon, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Superbad, Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible 2, GoldenEye, Mission: Impossible 3, Alias, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, The Incredibles, Tomorrowland, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Rye Lane, Baby Driver, Jaws, The Fabelmans, No Country For Old Men, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Juror #2, Heat, Tombstone and High Plains Drifter. We'll be back next week to wrap up the month by roping a few of our January features' top stars as George Clooney and Bernie Mac unite next week for 2001's Ocean's Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh -- one of the most rewatchable films ever made, as we can't wait to revisit it yet again as it gets welcomed into the ADHD-DVD podcast canon. Ocean's 11 is now streaming on Starz at the time this episode was released. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Bruce Cockburn's journey has taken him from music school for jazz composition to top albums and radio hits over the years. Along the way he's remained a thoughtful performer and humanitarian, whose songs reflect a concern for indigenous people, the environment and an overall hopeful approach to life. Bruce came to Outpost in the Burbs in November 2024, and his expressive solo guitar and voice performance filled the room with perfect vibes for the times. We had a fascinating conversation ahead of the show, and this episode also features an exclusive live recording of his classic song ‘Night Train'.

What a thrill and honour to interview an iconic Canadian music legend to end this season of the Talk Music podcast: BRUCE COCKBURN.Among his many achievements (including the release of 39 albums), the Ottawa-born artist has been honoured with 13 Juno Awards, an induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Canadian Music Hall of Fame, a Governor General's Performing Arts Award and has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada.Bruce is an artist revered around the world. With his repertoire of musical styles and skillfully-crafted lyrics, his songs have been covered by diverse artists such as Jerry Garcia, Chet Atkins, Judy Collins, The Barenaked Ladies, Jimmy Buffett and K.D Lang. His pioneering guitar playing, both acoustic and electric, has placed him in the company of the world's top instrumentalists. THE NEW YORK TIMES called him a “virtuoso on guitar,” while Acoustic Guitar magazine placed him in the esteemed company of Andrés Segovia, Bill Frisell and Django Reinhardt. Bruce remains deeply respected for his activism on issues spanning native rights to land mines, the environment to third world debt, and he has worked for organizations such as Oxfam, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders and Friends of the Earth. In this episode, I go deep with Bruce as we chat about his early beginnings, his time at Berklee College of Music in Boston, the inspiration behind some of his most memorable songs (Wondering Where the Lions Are, If I had a Rocket Launcher, The Mines of Mozambique), and we chat about his memoir Rumours of Glory. Whilst navigating his entire career, we explore his in-studio relationships with producers Colin Linden, Eugene Martynec, Jon Goldsmith and T-Bone Burnett. After chatting about Bruce's wonderful last album, O SUN O MOON, which also features a co-written song with Susan Aglukark about the growing threat of global warming (To Keep the World We Know), our conversation wraps up with Bruce saying that "if God shows up I hope I will recognize him." This is a highly recommended must-listen. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Terra also graced us with two acoustic performances of new songs: L A Good Sign and and Could've Stayed Lost that she has already recorded and are planned to be released in February. Hi everybody, welcome to another episode of The Talk Music Podcast!I'm thrilled to announce my guest is LES STROUD! Best known as the producer, creator and star of the hit TV series SURVIVORMAN, Les is also an accomplished musician/songwriter. His music is a rich tapestry of rock, world, prog rock, folk and blues, and it reflects his deep connection to nature. Steve Vai, Bruce Cockburn, Colin Linden and Slash have all lent Les their musical talents for his recordings. Les has guested on stage with Journey, Alice Cooper, Blues Traveler, Steven Stills, Chicago, Randy Bachman, Tommy Shaw, James Cotton, Dave Mason and Slash (who's latest solo album Les performs on). Les has always operated in two lanes: his Survivorman and music careers, the latter being his most recent focus. His latest album MOTHER EARTH, produced by MIKE CLINK (“Appetite for Destruction” by Guns N' Roses), blew me away. Some song clips are sprinkled throughout. I loved chatting with Les about his beginnings, both our experiences at Fanshawe college, his remarkable journey as a survival expert, and of course his lifelong passion for using music to express his love for our planet. This in-depth chat took place the day after I saw Les perform as a guest on harp at a truly magical Bruce Cockburn concert. Afterwards, surrounded by nature at his well-hidden cottage, we enjoyed a hot sauna, cold beer and a quick dip in the lake. A blissful time I will always remember. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. 38 albums in, most of them gold or platinum, Bruce Cockburn is still Kicking at the Darkness. He's a legendary singer-songwriter-activist who's won 13 Juno awards, and is now heading out on tour with his latest, “O Sun, O Moon”, where he sings “In my soul, I'm on a roll”. Now 78, Bruce is still trying to make the world a better place. We talk about the one time “the suits” got a say (Franklin the Turtle lyrics ), about others having hits with his songs (Lovers in a Dangerous Time), and the story behind his signature round glasses! Bruce tells us he wondered if he was lacking the proper paternity gene, as he didn't get to be around much for his first daughter. Now he has a second, and he's become a US citizen to be with her and her mom in San Francisco. We were worried, him being a Canadian icon and all, but he's kept his Canadian citizenship. Sean Barrette is an author who has since written a book "Heartstrings - First Guitars" Heartstrings – First Guitars, is a collection of memories from a variety of musicians, famous, semi-famous, up and coming, anonymous, or otherwise, about the guitar they learned on, the first guitar they bought with their own money, the first “good” guitar they owned, or the beloved first-line guitar that accompanied them on first songs, first shows, first tours, or first recordings. These short, narrative pieces, tied together with first-time author Sean Barrette's memories of a life and career spent immersed in music, tell a story that demonstrates that, no matter the guitar player, they all have this first guitar story and love to tell it. It's the thread that ties all guitar players together, but these stories also provide insight into the very beginnings of many of the musical artists we love. It may even provide insight into the guitar player who lives with you. Or encourage someone to pick up a guitar and get playing themselves. With first guitar stories by: Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Cockburn, David Knopfler, Colin Linden (Blackie & the Rodeo Kings), Johnny Hickman (Cracker), Rob Baker (Tragically Hip), Paul Langlois (Tragically Hip), Gord Sinclair (Tragically Hip), Tom Wilson (Blackie & the Rodeo Kings), Kevn Kinney (Drivin & Cryin), Liona Boyd, Leeroy Stagger, Moe Berg and Kris Abbott (The Pursuit of Happiness), Blair Packham (The Jitters), Rik Emmett (Triumph), Finny McConnell (The Mahones), Ron Hawkins (Lowest of the Low), Dave Genn (54-40), Skye Wallace, Alun Piggins, Mark Stuart, Stacey Earle, Chris and Eleanor Masterson (The Mastersons), Preston and Alan Glass, Barney Bentall, Sean Kelly (Crash Kelly), Mr. Zero (The Kings), Jaimee Harris, Andrew Hyatt, Terry Draper (Klaatu), Dan “Chewy” Mongrain (Voi Vod), Sal Costa (My Darkest Days, Bonds of Mara), Michael Mckenzie (Lowest of the Low), François Lamoureux, Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker the Star), Ed Ringwald (Gordon Lightfoot), Joel Plaskett, Neil Osborne (54-40), Carl Harvey (Toots & the Maytals), Don Ross, Mike Turner (Our Lady Peace), Darrell Scott, Stephen Fearing (Blackie & the Rodeo Kings), Ethan Ives (Car Seat Headrest), Jeffrey Trott (Sheryl Crow), Julian Taylor, David Pulkingham, Brian Howes (DDT), Gary Lee Connor (Screaming Trees), Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde), Pete Yorn, Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar), David Baerwald, Pete Droge and Elaine Summers (The Sinners), Serena Ryder, Myles Zuniga (Fastball), Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), Hayes Carll, Stuart Cameron (Crash Test Dummies), Myles Goodwin (April Wine), Brian and Bruce Good (The Good Brothers), Adrian Eccleston (Drake, The Weeknd), and many more. Iman Mersal is one of Egypt's most celebrated and groundbreaking poets. Now, a collection of her work translated into English, titled “The Threshold,” is on the shortlist for this year's Griffin Poetry Prize. Iman tells Tom about the first poem she ever wrote, what it was like going back and reading her poetry from the ‘90s, and why she stopped writing for five years when she moved to Canada. Plus, Bruce Cockburn tells the story behind his song, “To Keep The World We Know,” off his new album, “O Sun O Moon.”
